TBK Combo Box

I got the rose tteokboki combo and it was great! I had low expectations going in but the flavor for everything was great. Combo comes with tteokboki and you can choose 2 sides and it comes with some rice and a bowl of soup. I thought for $15.5 it was a great deal. (For my sides i got the pork mandu and seaweed roll). They also give a generous amount of rice cakes in the tteokboki which I was surprised considering the cost. The soup it came with was just okay, too salty for me and definitely tasted like MSG. Overall i liked this place, would come back again! I went at 12pm on a Wednesday and it was empty but shortly after I ordered a wave of ppl came. I would say it took a bit for my food to come out even though it was empty when i ordered. Wished it came out quicker.

seoul bunsik is located in the international food court with other restaurants. it's set up similarly to a mall food court, where you order at the counter and then you can take your food to-go or eat at a table. since it's located downtown, it's super hard to find parking. i'd only go in-person when it's convenient, but the food tastes just as good when ordered for delivery. - tteokbokki (4.5/5): definitely had a kick! it was exactly what i would expect from tteokbokki, with a good depth of gochujang flavor. i loved the spiciness, but my boyfriend thought it was too spicy. the sauce was a little on the watery end, but it was thick enough to coat the rice cakes and fish cakes. the rice cakes were perfectly chewy, and i thought there was a good ratio of rice cakes to toppings - carbonara tteokbokki (4/5): lighter than i expected it to be, although still a little heavy because of the oil and cream sauce. it was very rich and creamy, and i liked the addition of ham - rose tteokbokki (4.5/5): this was my favorite tteokbokki! it tasted almost like the middle ground between the regular and carbonara tteokbokki. it was creamy but also had a slight kick, though less spicy then the regular tteokbokki. i thought it would've been perfect if the sauce was a little thicker - kimchi fried rice (3.5/5): this had a great kimchi flavor, which was savory and tangy. there was lots of kimchi in it, but it would've been better if the kimchi was chopped up instead of in big pieces. the egg was fried well, but the rice was a little mushy. it was a good portion of food - fried seaweed roll (2/5): just ok. i thought they could've been crispier, and i wasn't a fan of the flavor, which i thought was one-note. i typically like kimmari with a slightly sweeter and deeper flavor. it would've been nice if it came with a kimmari dipping sauce to add more flavor - cheese balls (4/5): surprisingly slightly sweet! they came with a spicy mayo sauce, which was good but overshadowed the slightly sweet flavor of the cheese. if you want more of a savory dish, i would recommend dipping them in the sauce, but i ate them plain since i enjoyed the sweetness. the balls were oily, and i could feel the oil seeping out in each bite. i liked the chewy mochi-like texture - so-tteok (3/5): rice cakes and mini sausages covered in a slightly sweet and tangy glaze. i thought the dish was okay, but i wasn't a big fan of the sauce and it could've used more seasoning overall. i did like the chewiness of the rice cakes, which were fried seoul bunsik's main focus - the tteokbokki - was tasty, and the portion was great! everything else was okay, but i'm not sure that i would order them again if i came back. my favorite was the rose tteokbokki, which i would definitely recommend trying!

Kimchi Fried Rice ()

Great FiDi lunch option. The restaurant is located in the international food quart. Make sure you get here before the lunch rush. The food quart can get a bit loud. I ordered the kimchi fried rice. Kimchi fried rice tastes fine (a bit mushy) but was really really oily. I soaked 4 napkins in full. Rose tteokbokki was flavorful. The meal set came with a side of oden which was nice. Good portion sizes and glad to see Korean food offerings in the area.

TBK Combo Box

Combo box (rose tteokbokki, fried mandu, gimmari) - 5/5, comes with a generous portion of tteokbokki, 3 fried mandu, 2/3 gimmari, scoop of rice, and fishcake soup. The sauce was super flavorful and the tteok was chewy! It's a bit in the watery side, but the flavor sticks to the tteok fine. Gimmari and fried mandu were perfect on its own and dipped into the sauce. The fishcake soup was alright, and they only gave a small cut of fishcake. Great place when you're craving korean streetfood!

Pretty good flavor. Nice space. Only complaint was a 25 minute wait time which is a lot for a lunchtime hour.

So-Tteok (Sausage Skewer) and rice cake

This spot is located in the international food court underground. It's set up similar to a mall food court. My friend and I really enjoyed the sauce that came with the sausage and rice cake skewer. The rice cakes were also very good. The price is also very reasonable While you wait for your food, grab a seat. They call names out when your order is ready.

Yet another great Korean offerings in the underground food court. No cashier, just order at a kiosk then swipe your credit card then collect your food a little while later. Some pretty unique dishes you don't often see around town. Rosé Creamy Tteokbokki: Very unique! It's from the same book of magic that put heavy cream into a tomato-based curry to make the beloved chicken tikka masala. The typical spicy tteokbokki sauce becomes so much more complex with a little bit of dairy. And I wouldn't think of it as less spicy, but just better balanced. The chewy doughy tteokbokki made me think of eating big gnocchi in a creamy tomato vodka sauce. Though the fish cakes were distinctively fishy, so you can't mistake this for Italian or Indian. And the almost raw onion chunks were an interesting addition, helping add some tang to the big rice cakes. Though the rich cream gets pretty filling, so you might not finish the whole dish. Very memorable. Korean Noodle Soup w/ Chicken & Mandu: Decided to get the regular version since I wanted to really appreciate the 8+ hour simmered chicken broth. It was comforting for sure, but it wasn't mind blowing. Also, it seemed they went a bit crazy with the thick noodles leaving not much space for the broth. The chicken was tender though mild. Same with the carrot and zucchini slices. The only thing with a lot of flavor was the optional mandu add-on I selected. Tasted freshly made since the dough was tender and the veggies inside were fresh, plus the meat (pork?) was good too. Not sure I'd get this again though, would probably stick with the tteokbokki next time. Cheese Corndog: Not the dense cornmeal you'd find on a regular corndog, but lighter and chewier. Loved that so much of it was just filled with gooey cheese. Though there was a little smoky sausage by the stick. The abundance of ketchup on top was perfect. Fried Seaweed Roll: Looks like deep fried sushi, but under the crispy tempura shell and papery seaweed wrap is a bunch of squishy glass noodles. Fun flavor contrast throughout all the different layers. But didn't feel that substantive since it was just carby.

This spot is in a food court in the financial district. My sister and I got the rose TBK, with a bunch of sides. We got the fried sweet potato, gimmari, por mandu, and so-tteok. Everything was so yummy but the dukbokki was a little too runny. I really enjoyed the fried sweet potato and so-tteok!

classic tteokbokki with some fish cakes. I thought the sauce was on the watery side but the spice level was good. wish there were more ingredients but it was $13 so not too shabby

found this place on a whim and i was pleasantly surprised!! all of the food was perfect with great portions--really worth it for a quick meal or togo for a picnic or drive! rose tteokbokki - HUGE portion and the sauce was addictingly spicy and creamy. it came with onions and chewy delightful rice cakes. overall just satisfies a korean food craving fried seaweed rolls - they gave a lot & i dipped these in the rose sauce. these are filled with chewy noodles and really flavorful with a bit of a kick!! this was a very chill place with noone else ordering on a weekday in an unassuming underground plaza, serving really yummy food that shouldn't be overlooked!!

DELIVERY- Gimmari: Fried Seaweed Rolls w/ glass noodles | 10 pc-$4

Hot. Spicy. Saucy. Cheesy. Chewy. Carbs. HELL YAS! Though your belly and porcelain throne may be giving you the side eye. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Korean food has been having a moment and Seoul Bunsik is here to satisfy your hot, spicy, carb heavy Korean cravings (bunsik = food made from flour). Seoul Bunsik serves Korean Street Food: Gimmari (fried seaweed rolls), Tteokbokki (rice cakes), Mandu (fried potstickers), and KFC Popcorn Chicken. It's a ghost kitchen so takeout and delivery only via 3rd party apps. For their tteokbokki, there's two options: standard cylinder or noodle (like udon). Spice levels: Regular, Spicy, or Fire. As others have stated, regular is spicy enough unless you want to light your toilet paper on fire. I ordered delivery via DoorDash and my order was delivered in about an hour. Everything was securely packaged in a sealed bag and a kind thank you note. F O O D * Gimmari: Fried Seaweed Rolls (10 pc -$4): https://bit.ly/3z3fadR A popular Korean street food snack of glass noodles wrapped in seaweed then fried. The gimmari was crunchy on the outside with chewy, noodles on the inside. Dip it in the spicy, creamy tteokbooki sauce...so good! * Creamy aka Rose Tteokbokki ($14.50): https://bit.ly/32Hl4FH ***Add cheese (+$3) ***Add mini sausages (+$3) ***Option to add egg (+$1.50) but I added one on my own at home. The Rose Tteokbokki was so deliciously satisfying with chewy rice cakes, savory mini sausages, soft sheets of fish cakes, acidic kimchi, and plenty of melty cheesy goodness. The sauce was creamy and spicy; regular spicy packed a good amount of heat. This is a very rich and heavy dish so it's good for sharing. I could only eat ¼ of the portion. I enjoyed Seoul Bunsik's food but I was HELLA thirsty afterwards. Not many places in the city serve Rose Tteokbokki so if you're looking to get your fix, give Seoul Bunsik a try!

Open seating, no front house staff

A ghost kitchen with tables and chairs. Collocated with Katsuya, this store front has no wait staff. The kitchen was a two person crew entertaining a slew of mobile delivery orders and a couple of in person guests including us. This location is so ghost, they didn't even have bottled water. Their rose tteokbokki was not a true rose sauce. Skip the carbonara tteokbokki, carbonara is only meant in an Italian restaurant. Maybe the food was actually good at their previous location but it only leaves room for disappointment here.

Yes, it is one person doing everything, but he's super sweet and thorough. So, have patience coming here. Restaurants probably can't afford more labor when their own costs of food, labor, rent and insurance is so high. With that said, the food is expensive. However, the items we ordered were delicious, clean, fresh, and authentic. Ginseng chicken soup was made with love. Can't find this dish in most Korean spots! Longer wait time because it takes longer to make. Meat fell if the bone, stock was rich and not salty! You can salt it yourself! Mackerel was tasty and juicy. Probably, the best pan fried mackerel I've had. The mungbean pancake was good but not for the price. Side dishes were decent. Kimchee could be better. Location is in the heart of Japan town! That's rare. Mother approved and we will be coming back again!

And the Spicy Calamari & Bulgogi was actually $20 higher (!!!) than what's listed on Yelp (no prices on website), so find this pretty misleading. It was also overcooked, so bummer all around. Took a chance on this Japantown fav and left wishing I'd purchased basically anything else there. Apparently I'm not alone, while all the other restaurants were bustling on a busy Sunday evening, this one was virtually empty.

That could be a good or bad thing depending on the vibe you are going for. All the dishes hit their mark for me. We got: Mulhwae: very refreshing white fish sashimi with refreshing greens, citrusy sauce and strawberries. I thought the strawberries added more to the presentation than the taste. However, the dish itself was delicious. Scallops and shrimp: Similar as above, a very refreshing light appetizer. I would get either this of the other because they're kind of the same idea. Potato fritter w/ mentaiko: probably my top 1 or 2 of the night. Think fancy hashbrown with creamy umami pollock row plus more crispy toppings. This is a must-have I would say. Soft tofu soup w/ galbi: I liked the theatrical element of pouring the home-grown soy from Oakland to create the tofu right in front of you. The umami broth and the jang make this dish very rich. Another must have! Pork jowl bossam: this was a delicious take on bossam. Smokey soft jowl. The greens and kimchi accompanied it made this dish taste so healthy while satisfying your craving. If you just love buttery soft tender meat, go for it. However if you like jowl because you like the chew/bounce on every bite, you might be disappointed because this meat is super soft! Drinks: matcha colada was a little too coconuttey for me. It kind of overpowered the taste of any matcha but if you like coconut, this is a perfect visually pleasing and sweet dessert cocktail. The lychee blossom had a pleasant taste of fruit and almost tasted like there was yogurutoo or calpico in it. I much preferred this drink and it was on the sweeter side too. Overall pleasant experience, worth taking some guests or a date. Also we got 4-5 dishes but left super full! We probably would've been fine with 1 or 2 appetizers less.

Granted we were a bit late for our reservation, we ended up having to wait another 30-40 mins. The place (2nd floor) is small & awkward.
