    bento
    Michelle Z.

Got a custom bento box with eggplant & minced meat, chicken meatballs, and salad (forgot the exact name). The chicken meatballs were yummy but the portion was pretty small (the katsu portion is way bigger). The eggplant side was also pretty good but quite oily. The rice portion feels disproportionately huge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is conveniently located in the ferry building so this would be a nice grab & go spot to get food for picnics.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A great quick lunch at the ferry building, service is great and everyone is incredibly friendly. The 9 piece bento is a great deal and comes with so many delicious options, including fresh fish and the wasabi potato salad. The salmon onigiri was also a hit!

I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd pick up something quick to eat at Delica. This was my first time ordering the Sweet & Spicy Chicken ($3.50)--all-natural chicken marinated in sake, soy sauce, and ginger, then tossed in a mild sweet-and-spicy chili sauce--and the Pork Cutlet (Tonkatsu) ($3.50), pork tenderloin cutlets breaded in panko made with ACME Bakery Pain de Mie bread and drizzled with house tonkatsu sauce. The Sweet & Spicy Chicken wasn't spicy at all. It seemed like the soy sauce marinade, or perhaps too much soy sauce, made the chicken overly salty, which overpowered any sweet or spicy flavor. The Pork Cutlet was the same as I've had before, and I still enjoyed it. Hopefully, the next time I order the Sweet & Spicy Chicken, it won't be as salty. I'll come back because I'm often at the Ferry Building, and sometimes I just need something quick and convenient to eat.

    Beef Curry (large)

Ordered their beef curry (large) for pick up. Order was ready when I arrived but no utensils provided for take out, unfortunately. I was deciding between their bento boxes or their beef curry and ended up with beef curry because I wanted a warm lunch. Seems like most of their food is served cold! Excellent flavor, portions (I recommend paying the extra and upgrading to large size), plenty of beef and potatoes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No seating, take out only.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Fantastic food great prices! Not much to say besides that. It's amazing for what it is an Asian delicatessen. Highly recommended!

Tried their Bento-box with a pork katsu and a salmon onigiri on the side. It wasn't bad, food is decent, but nothing super special. It's a bit pricy for the amount of food. But if you don't eat much, may be a good deal.

This spot is amazing. I got a little bit of everything from a couple salads, the soup and a salmon onigiri. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I want to try more of their menu! And it's perfect if you're looking to pair it with other food spots around the ferry building, as you can get small or big portions as desired.

Got to enjoy a lunch at Delica and it was so yummy! I ordered a number 4 with the asparagus salad and sweet and spicy chicken. All dishes were fantastic! The service was speedy and friendly. I will definitely be coming back!

It does my heart good to see Delica seemingly unchanged by time. The cases are still lined with cold salads and sushi specialties. Vegan options are admittedly still sparse, but graciously, clearly labels. Priced are death but you're buying into the experience. The hijiki salad is always a nice oceanic palate cleanser, something unique to the scene at the Ferry Building. I'm glad I can stop in for light snacks, if not a full meal.

Delica is my go-to lunch spot when I'm in the office and I appreciate the convenience that it's just a short walk away! I can always rely on their quick and friendly service and consistently delicious and authentic Japanese flavors. Though they're located at the heart of the Ferry Building and can get really busy during peak lunch hour, the line moves fast and I've never had to wait very long. This time around, I ordered the 2 salad + 1 main: eggplant and wasabi garlic potato salads and the sweet & spicy chicken. So yummy, filling, and flavorful and you can beat the price ($14) for such quality items. Delica has also catered for a couple of my office events and their portions are very generous and reasonable for their price points. I've also tried their other options such as their pork cutlets, salmon chowder, and sushi. All spot-on so you really can't go wrong with anything here!

I was so hungry after my flight to SF and this hit the spot. My friend and I each got the number 4: main, salad, rice. We got eggplant salad, white rice, and sweet and sour chicken. It was so good!! The breading on chicken wasn't too much and the sauce was not too sweet.

The food here is absolutely on point. Very classic Japanese take using California ingredients. You can tell everything here is fresh and you can absolutely taste it in the food. I got a bento 1 with 2 deli salads and a main. They have multiple different options for bentos so pick your own adventure. In my bento I got the wasabi potato salad, the green bean salad, and the chicken meatballs. I also got a side shrimp cake which despite being under the heat lamp was extremely crispy even after walking to our table by the end of the pier. Would absolutely come back and recommend. This is simple food that's meant to showcase good ingredients and Japanese flavors.

I've walked by this Japanese deli countless times and finally decided try their food. There was a short line on a Tuesday afternoon but it moved by relatively quickly. Since I wanted to try a variety, I picked the No. 1: 1 Salad + 1 Soup + 1 Main ($14.00 + $1.00 upcharge for Salmon Chowder) +Hijiki and Soybean Salad was crunchy and refreshing. +Salmon Chowder was served hot: It was comforting with soft carrots and potatoes. +Tofu Chicken Patty was flavorful and tender. -Salmon Chowder was topped with a small amount of fishy salmon. -Tofu Chicken Patty was served cold. -Portions were on the smaller side. Side notes: 1.) No spoon provided for Salmon Chowder. 2.) [[HIGHLIGHT]]No seating available, but there are spots inside and outside the Ferry Building.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] *Verdict: I'm glad I finally tried this spot, but I don't plan on returning.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The balance of traditional and modern elements, along with the warmth of the service, leaves you with the sense of having experienced something complete and thoughtfully composed.

Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
