Love love love!! Came back to Swink for another blow out and both the manage Vanessa & stylist Brittany took care of me. My stylist was fabulous. She gave me a great wash ( my fav part to catch zzzzzz) and big beautiful blow out! She even pinned up my curls. And let me tell you, I have a lot of hair. It takes a lot of patience to pin them all up. I squealed when she took all the pins out. Love the huge curls!!! Now it's the day after and I still have them. Blowouts can be considered a "treat yourself" expense, but if you're in the market to do so this is the only place to go! I was visiting Seattle for a conference and figured why not look my best by getting my hair styled and blown out. I found this place though yelp after searching for a blowdry bar in downtown. When I arrived an assistant washed my hair and brought me over to a chair. My stylist was very friendly. They use capes here instead of the towels other blowdry bars use. It was kind of weird because my hair was already wet and dripping down my back before they ever put the cape on me, so I'm not sure it really served its purpose. My stylist and I had a good conversation but it was kind of hard to hear each other over the blow dryer - it was kind of loud. I equate it to going to the dentist and the dentist asking you a question while they have their hands and tools in your mouth. It's like all you say is going to come out like gobbly goop, so why bother? It might have been my imagination but it also kind of felt like my stylist just wanted to get me out of there. When I first came in she asked me if we were just doing a blowout or we were also doing a style. I said both and it kind of seemed like she was disappointed. After she blow-dried my hair she asked again if I really wanted it curled. Perhaps she was being consciousness, but it kind of felt like I was being a burden. I guess I could understand why - I have long, thick hair. My hair did turn out beautiful and the curls lasted all weekend. Everyone I interacted with at the salon was really friendly. Swink is also a pretty cute salon. From the chandelier to the chairs, everything seems to sparkle. This blowdry bar is a little on the pricy side. I paid $65, whereas normally in downtown San Diego where I live I would pay $39 (not including tip). But my hair turned out awesome so it's hard to complain too much about the price. read more

I am an out of towner and decided to get my hair done before the wedding. I came in 5 minutes past my appointment and checked with the receptionist. She said that my stylist will be with me soon but there was no place to sit and wait. While i was standing around waiting for a few minutes, someone rushed into the salon and introduced herself as my stylist. I was little shocked that the stylist looked unprofessional and came late to the appointment. I showed her a picture of the style i wanted and she said so you want the drystyle. She curled my hair and asked me if i wanted anything else. She curled my hair for maybe 10 minutes. I said my hair usually falls straight later and that i wanted tighter curls, she looked annoyed. She curled my hair some more for a few more minutes and i was done with my appointment in 20 minutes. I would not recommend this place. I went to other hair blow dry bars and i was disappointed with service at this place. $40 for less than 20 minutes of curling hair with no shampoo and blow dry! I am not familiar with Downtown Seattle and thanks to Road Construction I was late to my appointment. But Thank you to Aston for letting me still keep my appointment with Emilio. Emilio took my coat offered me coffee and it was off to start my blowout. I have thick hair and normally a challenge but for Emilio it was not even an issue. He worked very efficiently and professionally as he dried my hair and he also was giving pointers on how to speed up my hair drying at home. In the end I had a beautiful hair thanks to him and looked fantastic for my event that I was attending that day. I had to sneak into the very clean bathroom so I could touch up my makeup and the lighting was perfect. I can't recommend this place enough and look forward to my next visit. read more

Additionally, the stylist was extremely unpleasant and the manager had a client in the chair next to mine and should have been aware enough to see this behavior but said nothing. I wish we could give half stars on yelp. I would rate this place 3.5 stars. We were in Seattle for a wedding and I called ahead of time to book an apt to get my hair styled. The process to book an appointment was very smooth, the staff on the phone was very courteous and accommodating. The blow dry bar is small, but cute and swanky. They carry good products such as, Living Proof and Moroccanoil. However, my blow-dry and styling was just ok. One of the things I enjoy about getting my hair cut or styled is the hair wash. I love a good hair wash, where they actually scrub and clean your scalp and hair. The stylist literally just wet and put shampoo on top of my hair, ran her fingers through the top and rinsed it. She then put conditioner and did the same thing and was done!!! The bottom of my head and hair were not washed at all!! My hair and scalp felt dirty and that's where my disappointment started. She didn't listen to any of my instructions and literally just blow dried it straight. I could have done that!!! When I asked her to add some curls and a little bounce, she said you have to pay more as I need to use a curling iron. I was pretty annoyed and chose not to pay extra and walked out. It was the closing night of the Seattle International Film Festival I was one of the last customers on a Sunday. I dock two stars because they have one sink. Positives: Hair looked OK when I left The booking process was smooth. I was offered water upon entry. They let me change into my dress (which took less than five minutes) Drawbacks: I didn't get the water after I changed my clothes. I was third in line waiting for a shampoo, so I missed out. You are charged the same for a dry style and a blowout. *The last part about same price with or without a shampoo makes NO sense to me.* If a customer books a dry style and upon arrival at the salon she should have the option of getting a shampoo for the same amount of money, period. I did tip $10 because I do not think the stylist was to blame for the lack of a sink, and I did not remind her about the water myself. In fact am just remembering about the water it when I write this review. I went to the SIFF passholder dinner the next day, and my hair looked just as good for free. No cuts or colors which is A-OK in my book any day. The staff is super friendly, accommodating, and their shop is super clean and very chic. They are great at their craft and it's wonderful what a quick blow out or style can really do to ones confidence. I heard a lot of good things about this place so I decided to schedule an appointment for my engagement photos, I was happy with the outcome of my hair but the customer service was just terrible. I showed the girl a picture of how i wanted my hair and she had a fair understanding of it. I told her my hair was not very long and full so I had clip in extensions in it so it would be easier for her to work with. I think the appointments are 30 min slots but it took her 45 because she had to take the extensions in and out. I didnt mind that it took longer than expected, I was not in a hurry. Also, when the girl was doing my hair she told me she didn't like working there. Thats not great for branding and company pride. I was happy with my hair but when I left the receptionist was mean to me! She said, next time, I need to let them know that I had extensions in so they would schedule extra time for me now they are behind schedule. Its not my fault that the girl had to take them in and out, they were very attatched to my head. Should people with thicker hair make it a point in case they need more time. Unfortunately, instead of a relaxing experience, I regretted ever making an appointment at Swink. The morning of, I arrive and am immediately informed my stylist was running late. A staff member named Ashley arranges for me to come back at 10am. Well...I just paid for parking, but I don't really have a choice. I decide to grab a cup of coffee and figure I can feed the meter before heading back to the salon. While enjoying my coffee, I receive a voicemail saying 10am won't work after all and basically, I need to reschedule. At this point, I feel like I'm being jerked around and head home to change and get ready on my own. As I'm driving back, I call Swink to express my disappointment and explain why I booked the service in the first place. Long story short, after hearing about my presentation, I'm asked to come back at 10:30. Sheesh! After paying for parking once again ($10 total at this point), I enter the salon and am awkwardly greeted. No apologies, the vibe was very much, let's get this over with. While it was nice to get my services in, both were rushed due to the time crunch. The saving grace of the morning was comped services due to the inconvenience. In conclusion, I felt I was not taken seriously. Three different appointment times in one morning feels completely unprofessional. And, a sincere apology would have gone a long way. However, the attitude of staff was indifference. Polite...uh, I guess? But if I'm being honest, it was more like we don't care. Not impressed.....first, my stylist was late. I was the 7am appointment and we started at 7:15am. Second- she hardly put any conditioner in my hair, which made it hard to comb. Every other blow dry bar I've been to has used a leave in conditioner or spray to take out the tangles.....nope, not here! I have been to Swink for a few different services. First for a hair style service courtesy of a Groupon deal I had and then for a set of eyelashes. In theory, I really like the idea of Swink, I actually think the concept is brilliant. It's a simple model: hair styling, makeup application and eyelash extensions. That's it. I love this idea but I think the execution of this style bar comes off a bit short. I experienced some disorganization and scheduling issues: there was more than one occasion where I was called with an appointment reminder for the wrong day. My hairstyle service was good - no real issues there. I also used to love getting my lashes done there but the last time I went expecting to see my usual lash artist for my appointment, they had scheduled me with someone else instead. I also had a severe allergic reaction to the adhesive that time and when I called and told them they said they had never heard of this and were not very helpful. As a lash business, I found that very strange when other places I called were quite familiar with the reaction I described and said it can be common. The salon is very cute and girly (plus I love their supply of hot tamales!) and again, the idea is GREAT, but there are a few kinks they have to still work out before I recommend this style bar with confidence. read more

I popped my head in last week just to check it out because there is PINK in the window (seems like a good reason to see what is going on) and met Christina. She does the lashes and just happened to be at the front desk that day. She checked out the work I already had - I got a full set elsewhere a few weeks before and was not happy. She agreed that they did not look great and said she could fix them but I needed to make an appointment soon to get the fill price of only $50 (wow, that is really inexpensive for this service!). I booked the appointment for next week.... Unfortunately a few days later I had some work meetings change and I couldn't make my original appointment. I called but Swink was closed so I sent an email. I got a response when they opened again on Tuesday morning. Judy sent me a message saying she would cancel my original appointment and asked my availability for a reschedule. I explained why I needed to get in asap (I wanted the fill price instead of paying for a new full set). She wrote me back and got me in that same day!!!! When I showed up Christina was on time and ready to go. I explained exactly what I wanted (dramatic lashes) and she was very helpful. We discussed length and if I wanted them to curve or be straight (my old ones were straight which looked ridiculous). She was really professional and very nice! My appointment took a little longer than an hour, which she apologized for....when can you be upset for getting extra special treatment? I was thrilled. I LOVE MY LASHES!! Came here to get a blowout for a wedding when I was visiting from out of town. There could've been some touches to make their experience more chic/exclusive, ie) offering rose and champagne instead of just water. I forget the name of the girl who did my hair. The wash and scalp massage were good however she was freaking out because of a knot I had in my hair. I have thick hair and often if I know I'm getting a blowout I will let it go for a few days, especially if working out and flying, so yes, there are sometimes knots but no stylist nor myself have ever had a problem taking them out. She started panicking and saying she was going to have to cut that hair out--I wouldn't have let that happen and fortunately with some patience she got the knot out but it was quite unnerving to hear her say that. Beyond that, it was smooth sailing ahead! She gave me the style I wanted based on a photo and was quite efficient so I was happy with the end results. Plus it lasted as long as I needed it to--3 days and going! NB: you can book for 45 mins or 60 mins blowout online for the same price. I called and they didn't ask me how long I needed. After I looked into having someone come to my hotel suite to do my hair and makeup on the day of my wedding and finding out it was way out of my budget, I did some online research and found Swink. They had really great reviews and the salon was located right across the street from our hotel, plus they could accomodate my entire bridal party on the big day which I thought would be fun. Plus I loved the idea that in addition to the appointments for my wedding hair and makeup for the bride they include a trial appointment so you can test things out and make sure it's what you want. I had my trial hair and makeup appointment at Swink about three weeks before my wedding. I brought a lot of inspirational photos and magazine cut outs to my first appointment and left feeling super confident that this very important piece of the puzzle was going to turn out right. After my trail appointment I thought a lot about my hair and makeup, so I showed up the day of the wedding with a list of changes I wanted to make. My hairdresser agreed with my thoughts and said the changes would be no problem. It was so fun to be there with my mom and all my bridesmaids around me while I got pretty. I was so nervous but in the end everything turned out perfectly and I couldn't wait for the groom to see me! He absolutely loved everything about my hair and makeup. It was $200 for the Bridal Hair & Makeup Package which included a trial hair and trial makeup appointment plus the wedding day appointments (a total of 4 appointments). I thought this was a really good price and the trial appointments were absolutely worth it (I did the trial the day of my bridal shower). The also serve complimentary champagne for the wedding day appointments, which was fun. Bridesmaid Hair is $50 and Bridesmaid Makeup is $45. Some of my bridal party thought this was too expensive but the ones who did use Swink on the wedding day were happy with the results. I've been to the Downtown Swink 3 times now. Once for a style-blowout and then for a full set of eyelash extensions, then a few days ago for a fill. First. My blowout was not worth it. I asked for that fun loose spiral curl you see on every tv show and on entertainment news anchorwoman. I even pointed to a customer who was sitting at another chair. What I got was a brush straighten. I do that myself every morning. I wanted curl and body. I was surprised when she was done, so I asked, I was told that that was the full time I had booked. My hair was straight and shiney, but not what I wanted. As for the extensions. Really? A couple of portable massage tables in a big open room upstairs. Lame. They could have tried a bit harder. This is also the way to get into the office and another door that is frequently accessed. So you get to lay there for up to 2 hours, completely prone, while people wander around. Hopefully you don't fall asleep and make some noise, the whole place would hear you. Not cool. Maybe they will add waxing and you can get brazillians up there too! Better yet, in the front window! It feels like a lash extension factory, not a relaxing treatment. Beyond that, their technique is terrible. The first set hurt every time I blinked. I thought maybe she had just glued the lashes so close that it was poking my lid. No big deal? They fell out in a few days, but stopped hurting. This fill, same pain and when I looked closely, little black dots. She had been gluing the lashes to my skin. I have enough lashed to not have any need for that. I have no clue if these girls have cosmetology licensees, or official training. It feels more like they are just a bunch of girlfriends who wanted an excuse to brush each other's hair. This place is right next to my gym, and I thought it would be a great place for my friend and I to get our hair done for our friends wedding given the stellar reviews. They were really nice about helping to schedule appointments. I read all the reviews, and I went in completely confident. Then the girl who did my hair spent literally 15 min on my hair and used a total of 3 bobby pins. Both of my mom's are stylists. I realize that someone does not need to spend hours on your hair BUT I paid $50 for just 15 min and a few bobby pins? I can do that myself. Sorry Swink~ I would give you 5 stars but there is one reason why I refuse! (names have been changed. Well, just one name was changed) I used Swink for my bridal party about three weeks ago. The price was extremely competitive for the area and I thought it was a great deal! I was getting 4 bridesmaids, the bride, mother and aunt of the bride hair and makeup plus a touch up of brides makeup before the ceremony PLUS the salon closed for 3 hours with champagne and good treats PLUS my (the bride) trial hair and makeup all for $1,000! Now I booked them right when they opened and I am completely sure that they have since "jacked" the prices up. But I got a very good deal. Now I had Cassidy do my trial and she was AWESOME. I brought in a picture and Cassidy took it and made my hair and makeup look just so much better than the picture. Two weeks before my wedding I was told that unfortunately Cassidy wasn't going to be the one doing my hair and makeup on the day of and that another skilled stylist would do it and I could go in for another trial (on them) to test her ("D") out. I was bummed about Cassidy not being available after all but wasn't worried at all about D. Man, was I in for a treat. D didn't hide the fact that she was annoyed with me for wanting to have my hair done like Cassidy did it the previous week. I even told her "I know it might not look the same because you two are different stylists, but I would like it to look close to how Cassidy did it." She gave my girlfriend who was there for moral support dirty looks and even once was so rude I just looked shocked and my friend walked away and didn't come back. D spent more time checking herself in the mirror and fixing her hair than doing my makeup and then decided that I wasn't good enough to talk to so she decided to complain about her life to a coworker. I was fuming when the trial was done. AND my head heart because D took these huge bobby pins I had bought for my hair and stabbed me with them. So with my bruised head and my shocked face, I decided that after the wedding I was going to say something about D to the manager. I didn't want to do it that day because, c'mon, I had to see her for the day of my wedding!!! The day of the wedding was better than expected. I had warned the girls beforehand about how rude D was so we were all on alert. She didn't disappoint because the very first conversation she had with me she was so rude. My maid of honor was shocked! She did a great job with my hair and makeup, I am telling you about her personality not her skills as a hair stylist. She is very talented...just not very good with people. All in all, I loved Swink and I will go there again to just get my hair and makeup done for date night. I think it's a good treat for your bridal party if it fits to your budget. Like I mentioned before, I think their prices have gone up drastically since I booked them. I explained about the wedding and al and she (owner?) said "I am putting you on the top of the list" Me: "You can call me last minute, I will be downtown, I'll run over!" So I left hopeful but very nervous. At around 1030 the next day I get a call and the same lady asks "Can you come over right now?" YES I am down the street at the Westin! I literally run over and tell the girl (different stylist from the day before) to curl with medium curls all over. She does it with a vibrating (yes, vibrating) flat iron..which gave the perfect style. I left feeling amazing and so greatful for them fitting me in. I shine at the wedding that night with my goregous hair and my goregous new shoes (see my Nordstrom Seattle post)..it even lastes through the next day! I will definitely go here whenever I am in town. I even bought a gift card for my bro's pregnant wife cus I knew she would need some pampering! Awesome experience. Oh, and I just looked at their website and all blowouts/hairstyles are $20 on Tuesdays! Definitely hit it up. read more

Love. I've got thick, unruly hair, it made junior high hell. However, I have grown up and triumphed, but the hair remains. It can be such a pain to book a blowout at a place that really doesn't want to do it, because they can make more doing a haircut or color. So this place is genius. They have salons like this in NYC, so happy we finally got one here. I've read about this place in a bunch of magazines, and it meets the hype. Got a blowout, which I then took a nap in and drove in the car for 3 hours with. Walked around in 100% humidity and rain. Got rained on a bit--and it still held put. Like helmet head, but in a good way. The volume at the crown stayed in for three days. I even showed up at my destination without a hairbrush, and after a night out and sleeping, I finger combed it and went to brunch with the in-laws without looking like a crackhead. Saw a bride getting a trial style and another bride going to her shower. Wish they were around when I got married, at least for all of the events, etc. They use Moroccan Oil products, so they care for your hair as well as making it look lovely. read more

Kinks to work out FOR SURE. This place has a ton of potential. I got an appointment there for lashes; and waited and waited in the "waiting area" of the downtown location (surrounded by tweens who just got feathers in their hair). This place is tiny so even just 6 girls in the waiting area is a lot! The front desk gal was struggling - on the phone trying to make an appointment while the 6 girls were also trying to pay their bills... 2 more girls walked in for appointments and we just waited. My surprise was to find out there were 4 girls 'up stairs' not doing much. So maybe all this popularity has caught up with them cause they have a good thing going. Bravo them ... just some kinks to work out. This is a "Blow Dry" Bar - and yea I had to ask what that meant... apparently you can go somewhere just to get your hair blow dried! I think I will stick with the lashes! I am going in for my next lash appointment soon and will keep you updated. So far A-OK. read more

I was expecting something at least slightly high end. This is very not high end. Alex did a good job blowing out my hair, but during the shampoo and rinse, though I repeatedly requested that she make sure to aim the water directly at the base of my skull to get the soap/conditioner out of my hair, she just refused. It was super annoying! It's so important to pay attention to your customer's requests and to respond to their wishes, especially when it's something so basic. The salon appeared somewhat dirty and the front desk gal started mopping with some kind of powerful cleaning agent while Alex was finishing up. I had to request that she stop as it was making me feel ill. Lots of potential here! Perhaps a buyout by someone with a great vision and eye for glamour and customer service? read more
