Bridal Hair and Makeup Review: My spouse and I planned our micro wedding in the span of 7 weeks which meant having to scramble on a lot of things. Hair and makeup proved to be one of the more complicated things to arrange due to logistical barriers: we had a bride, 2 bridesmaids, and 2 mothers who needed morning services on a Saturday in the summer. Of handful of freelance MUAs who were still available, most needed us to supply the space to get ready. I had also looked into other salons in the area but hardly any did both both hair and makeup, or they had very limited makeup services--definitely not enough for 5 people. Enter Swink Style bar. After submitting a form with my request, I was contacted by Amy, the bridal coordinator. It was less than 3 weeks out but they were able to accomodate us--and at the lowest price I'd seen anywhere, including freelancers who didn't provide studio space. I filled out some more forms with information about everyone's hair and makeup preferences, and Amy got to work scheduling everyone in their slots. She also assisted with scheduling the trial appointment. They even were able to let us use one of the treatment rooms as a changing/storage room. I never even met her in person but she was a godsend in this process! I had my trial with Alex (makeup) and Ashley (hair) who were amazing. The trial went smoothly thanks to the salons recommendation to bring some references photos to figure out what you wanted. They personalized the products they used and made adjustments as we went along. Although I was very happy with how things looked during the trial, my other assignment was to keep track of how things held up after a certain duration. I took photos throughout the rest of the day to be able to report back. For example, I learned that one of my eye corners is less "sticky" so more lash glue is needed on that side. On the day of the actual wedding I was a assigned the same stylists who executed everything flawlessly. Key kindly allowed my photographer to come for a portion to get some getting ready shots. My makeup and hair looked beautiful for the whole 8 hours of the ceremony and reception dinner. The others were also very happy with their looks. I had purchased one of the lip products and used it for touchups. I did have some tendril curl loosening by hour 3 but that had everything to do with it being an outdoor wedding on a drizzly day in Seattle--luckily I had an iron on hand to tighten them up for dinner. For reference, the total for bride + 4 adults with provided lashes was about $900 before tip. Considering I was getting quotes for ~$300 a person, this was a steal and we were so happy with the results. Grateful I was able to work with Swink for my special day! read more

+1 star because they were able to book me at a last minute (2 weeks out) notice. My wedding was a couple weeks ago and I made the poor decision to get my bridal hair done here. For a trial AND day-of styling, I paid $250+ for less than an hour total of service. I showed the stylist inspo pics of voluminous blow-out and Hollywood glam hair. For the trial, my stylist spent no more than 20-25 minutes on a blowout that lasted 5 minutes after walking out the salon - barely any product was used. She assured me that if it didn't last more than 4 hours, she had a backup plan to use hot tools for the day-of. I quickly sent the salon photos of my hair and gave prompt feedback, and they assured me that they would be able to execute day-of. For a $100+tip trial, the quality was unacceptable. Day-of, the same stylist took the time to talk through hair styles and what went wrong to level-set expectations. She revisited the backup plan but I communicated that I was not confident she would be able to execute what I initially envisioned and asked her to give me a simple curl that would last throughout the night. At this point, I just needed my hair done and couldn't afford any unforced errors on her part. The appointment was supposed to take 75 minutes, it took less than 30, and I left the salon with pins still in my hair. Some product was used, but not enough... She promised the pins would help my curl last longer but personally, I think it's wild to send a bride off on her wedding day without having any idea of what the final product looked like, considering the trial was a disaster. My hair was ok... disappointing that I paid that much for something I could have done myself. It also didn't last more than 2 hours into the party. If you're looking for a last minute blowout that will last you an hour and if you don't mind a Great Clips atmosphere, then sure, this could be the spot for you. Otherwise, save your money and find a different salon. read more

I chose Swink Style Bar for my wedding hairdo for its reasonable rate. Ashley (who is the owner I think) was phenomenal and her work exceeded my expectations! I was worried because I have thin, fine hair which could be difficult for an updo but Ashley was extremely professional and her work was consistent on the trial day and the wedding day. As soon as we finished trial session, my mom and my sister (who rarely spend on beauty, hair, or nails) also wanted theirs done if it wasn't for a scheduling conflict the day or the wedding. If you are considering Swink for a hairdo, do not hesitate! I could tell Ashley is very experienced. I will be returning for other services for sure. read more

I got my lashes done here and at first I was not in love with them. So I reached out and they replied to me immediately set up an adjustment that day got some more aligned with my vision. The customer service was great and I really appreciated how quickly they responded. They also did not charge me for the adjustment which is unheard of. read more

Nice that could get in at the last minute. I lost my shampoo and conditioner while traveling so was desperate for a wash. Tiny place off the beaten path. Efficient service. However it was the roughest shampoo and style I have ever had. Scraping my scalp during shampoo, yanking and pulling to get through tangles afterward. No sense of heat from the blowdryer on my scalp and tangles from the blow dryer just yanked through. I washed my own hair three days later and my scalp was still tender. read more

I asked to manage my flyaways and volume In front. Both sadly did not happen. I have too many flyaways and they gave me no volume. My makeup is cake white and so much on my face that when I smile there are lines that I didn't have before. I aged by 10 years going here. So disappointed in the outcome and it took so long. As anyone who has been in a wedding before knows, it's pretty vital to be "on schedule". So when another bridesmaid and I arrived (on time) for our appointments and one stylist was still finishing another client and the other wasn't even at work yet (!) I already started to get nervous about trusting this place. Luckily the makeup artist (Alex) arrived after 5-10 minutes, and the work they did was good. The makeup was a bit lighter than I asked for, even after suggesting she add more contour, but she did a nice job and was friendly and professional. The hair stylist we worked with (Hannah) asked for help from a colleague with a part of the style she wasn't yet comfortable doing herself, which was admirable. As some other reviews suggest, I can tell this is a place for newer stylists to get some more experience and maybe learn from more seasoned artists. read more

I would not recommend Swink for a blowout. Each time I've gone here the women have been so rude and catty and the last time she didn't use any heat protectant at all and would just hold the dryer on high heat in the same place for 30+ seconds. I could see parts of my hair breaking off in real time. I was on the verge of tears by the time it was done and the stylist said that my blowout would "look better later" -- if you know how to do a blowout properly, there is no wait time. She was completely indifferent to how upset I was and I expressed it immediately after and still have not heard back from them at all. If you want a positive experience I would recommend Seattle Beauty Boss instead! They are talented, professional, and kind! read more

My lashes look terrible. Amateurish. I've been getting lashes for years now and this was probably the worst. I asked for natural extensions, but I came out looking like Janice the muppet. They are uniform, no variance in length (so they look fake) and are overly dramatic. I think some lash artists have lost sight of what natural is... also, she got glue in my eye (something a professional should be able to avoid). My eye was burning and red for 24 hrs. There are other artists there that may be better (I know because I used a different one for years), but this one needs a lot more training. If you're booking in the app, make sure you choose "senior stylist." read more

Be careful of this place!!! I came about once a month for 6 months and had wonderful experiences with Shaiaan, but booked an appointment with Ashley and had severe eye irritation from improper eyelash placements. At the end of my appointment, I realized that my bottom eyelashes had been glued to my top lashes. When Ashley tried to yank the eyelashes apart, my eyes began severely watering - which had never happened before. I believe this seriously impacted the adhesiveness of the glue and ultimately caused me intense eye irritation for a few days. I even pulled a piece of glue out that had been stuck under my eyelid three days later. I took multiple photos the day of and the day after (attached) and (in the spirit of being kind and seeing if the eyelashes would stay put) waited about a week before scheduling a new fill. I assumed this would be comped but did not realize until after the fact that this had not happened. This is not a place that takes care of loyal patrons or addresses serious health concerns. I was not offered any compensation due to a policy that requires you reach out within 72 hours. Needless to say, I will not be coming back. And I would've had the situation been resolved in an appropriate or concerned manner because I do love Shaiaan! read more

She dried my hair with a Dyson and then clipped it so the curls would set while they cooled. We got there before a very important work event after traveling all night and were told they only had one of us and the other in the notes was just "coming along." What? I tried to reset my password but the website message was that it was unable to reset contact the business. I phone with a happy voice and asked to be added to their Sunday waitlist. Let's start with the vibe...attitude! Wow!Scary bad!!! I just had the rudest stylist ever. I get my hair blown out on a regular basis other places and know what works and what doesn't. When I gently asked a few questions the return attitude was epically rude. She then did a horrible job which felt like it was an FU because I asked questions. ...or maybe she's just a bad stylist. She never spoke a word..didn't ask if it was ok and never said goodbye. Why did I feel guilty and tip her?! Probably because I have better manners than she does. She certainly didn't deserve it. I just left the salon and got home, I was hoping to be ok with it, but I am not. I'm not sure where to Start. I booked a 60min appt with Olaplex, and smoother, I felt the stylist was rushed, because I was the last client of the night, and she wanted to go for margaritas after work with the staff as she told me. So not off to a great start. She did not use the Olaplex, or smoother only a anti frizz spray at the end at my request. I told the stylist that my roots needed to be very dry or my hair would frizz, as I have naturally curly hair. She quick dried my hair and you could see the frizz setting in, I pointed it out and she went back through with a flat iron. She was 'done' within 45 mins, and ushering me along. I mentioned the frizz and she sprayed it with product, but as you can see for the pics that did nothing. Also there was no style and I had requested curls at the end which she only did for part of my hair, they quickly released into frizz. I'm super unhappy. I got the blowout with a treatment and the treatment was on my hair for maybe 2-5 minutes... it's my understanding that that's not effective. I paid a lot for it to fall flat soon after. I really DON'T recommend going here. I went in and requested beachy waves and even showed a photo of the requested look. I was charged $20 more than the original price (from $45 to $65) for ringlets. I left with hair I hated and have worn my hair under a ball cap and up in a ponytail all day to hide the embarrassment of having hair that looks dramatically overdone. To have paid $75 (including tip) for a crappy end look is atrocious. I highly encourage you to put your $ to use somewhere else and do not go here. read more

Did you want your hair to have some bounce and flounce and just to feel like pretty? Well Swink Style Bar has something special to offer our city, and I'm so glad they're here. As a first time blow-out goer, I'll say $40 is reasonable reasonable for a service of a wash with lovely products suited to your hair type and a blow out. It's took about 45 minutes for my hair to be complete. My delightful stylist Julianne took her time, set my hair and left me feeling a beautiful flounce as I walked out of the shop. I will say: I did not get a ton of longevity out of the slightly curled ends, but did get longevity out of the smooth polished look of the blowout. This might be because I got a regular blowout, no tools as I need a "my hair but better day". I will also say there is some slight pressure towards products, but as I have very oily prone hair when the weather becomes cool, I am very particular about trying before buying and would have felt more likely to come back to but had the products been the ones used in my hair to begin with rather than in addition. read more

Spent 20 minutes looking for parking, not their fault, to arrive on time and be told they didn't have my appt as they said their system was not working right. I had to start a new account to make said appt, including providing credit card info, since it would not take my password or let me reset it. Set up new account and got text messages from them. To arrive and have no appt was not okay. This happened a lot a few years ago and I stopped using them, but started again in the last year. They tried to see about another time but that didn't work with my schedule. An extra star for trying. Like other posters here, I had a very mediocre experience at Swink. Perhaps I walked in with the wrong impression, or I was mislead by their service offerings, but either way I was disappointed. Scheduled for a wash and blowout. When I arrived I was told there would be an "upcharge" to actually wash my hair with water and shampoo because "your hair isn't that oily right now" and they were planning to just throw in some dry shampoo and call it good. Then I asked her to do simple large wavy curls, nothing crazy fancy. She said that there would be an "upcharge" for using a curling iron, but she could try to accomplish my look with a round brush and some hair spray (amazingly no extra charge for that). When I left I was out $50 and had hair that fell limp within 1-2 hours. I don't know why Seattle has not caught on to the styling bar trend that is standard in other major cities, but clearly we have a long way to go... read more

Downgrading after my 2nd visit. I would not recommend Swink if you have extensions. I've never had an issue getting a blow out with extensions before (and have had many). On my 2nd visit to Swink, my hair was handled so roughly, one of my hand tied extensions was ripped out when I got home. I could feel the pressure but figured they knew what they were doing. I should have realized the red flag when the stylist mentioned she had problems with peoples' extensions coming undone before. I'm sure this is an ok place for most people and certain stylists are ok, but I can't recommend it for those with extensions. read more

I don't normally leave negative reviews as I know how damaging they can be but I really really had a poor experience here. I arrived at 1pm on time for my appointment. I was greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk, she told me my stylist was upstairs and would be down to grab me. 15 min go by at which point I realize my stylish is now downstairs and is just chit chatting with another client. This goes on for 5 or 10 min until she finally greets me. I swear she said 5 words to me for the next hour and a half we spent together. She barely looked at the photos I provided for hair and makeup (seriously just glanced at them and didn't say a thing, didn't ask questions) didn't check in throughout the process to see how I was liking things so far, and I had to ask her to cover up a bunch of spots on my face that she didn't fill in with makeup. I also had to ask her to blend out my contour?? It looked crazy. I ended up redoing most of my makeup and taking off the lashes before the event even started. Within 2 min of leaving the store my updo was falling out and my fake lashes were too. I would love to try this place again with a different stylist. (Tiara was mine.) I do not know the stylist's name and it is not listed in the confirmation email I received but words cannot describe how angry and deeply hurt I am by her lack of skill and absolute stupidity. I'm waking up today still in tears at the damage Swink's stylist has done to my hair. First off, she BARELY touched my scalp while washing. I regularly do get buildup/dandruff as I wash my hair once weekly. However, with every wash, it ALL comes out. Swink's stylist did not thoroughly scrub my scalp but was scrubbing my actual hair. She didn't even clean properly around my hairline or rinse thoroughly. When we got back to the chair I noticed there was dislodged buildup that was still in my hair. I asked her to rinse it out and she said "well it's probably just buildup" like yeah, duh? It's on my hair now, not my scalp and you didn't properly rinse it so please rinse it... She reluctantly rinsed it. Second, SHE RIPPED THROUGH MY HAIR WHILE IT WAS SOAKING WET TO TRY AND DETANGLE IT ALL AT ONCE. She put all my hair in her hand and started brushing through with no care at all. Clearly anyone working in cosmetology would know that hair has different tension points. Especially for highly processed bleach blonde hair, you need to be gentle. She was NOT. She also didn't use any oil or styling products other than mousse which is drying. Third, SHE DID NOT PRE-DRY MY HAIR. It is common sense to know that you cannot blowout soaking wet hair. That is damaging for anyone's hair but especially my processed hair. Fourth, SHE RIPPED THROUGH MY HAIR WITH A ROUND BRUSH TO DETANGLE. A FUCKING ROUND BRUSH. Fifth and finally, I was there for 90 minutes as opposed to the 45 I was supposed to be. I literally saw a client walk in who was serviced by Leah and left within 30 minutes. When she saw Leah's client leave, I could tell she started to feel pressure about her timing so instead of continuing to part my hair, she took the entire front half sections of my hair and blow dried them all at once. They were still soaking wet and she had the audacity to try and blast dry HUGE sections just because she was running late. The most delicate part of my hair was FRIED. This was where she was ripping my hair with the round brush instead of the wet brush. Side note: my last appointment with Leah was only 45 minutes and she finished on time with no issue. I absolutely loved Leah's work last time. She took care of my hair and was extremely gentle and strategic with her de-tangling, parting, and blow dry technique. She thoroughly scrubbed my scalp and I felt fresh and brand new leaving your salon. I was excited to come back, get my hair done, and feel pretty for my weekend plans. I regret ever coming back and seeing someone other than Leah. When I got up from the chair the entire back of my head was still damp and wavy. The receptionist at the counter told me my visit was taken care of today. I really wish I had asked her why just so I could hear it from her mouth that she knew my hair was FUCKED. My hair is broken and ruined because of your stylist's negligence and clear lack of skill. My hair is so broken now that it looks like I have janky facial framing. Leah can attest to this: I told her I do not have layers cut into my hair so that I can track the growth and health of my hair. She told me that was a smart idea for how blonde I am. My hair dresser can also speak on my behalf for how careful I am with my hair. Anybody in my life knows that my hair is as close to perfect as you can get for a heavily processed bleach blonde and now I have severe breakage ALL OVER my hair. I pay thousands of dollars a year to have my hair look it's best and this stylist paid no mind to that. I am extremely disappointed and hope that this never happens to other clients. I called after my appointment to voice my concerns and emailed the manager with photos and even though she asked if I needed anything she didn't want to be of service. I asked for some damn hair gel/oil to help me style the broken and unruly hair. But she dodged my simple request. Don't go here. read more

Really amazing. I'm from NYC and was in Seattle for a black tie wedding and needed to get my hair in an updo. From the beginning my stylist was sweet, kind, and listened to exactly what I wanted. I always have issues explaining myself and she GOT IT! She also has an amazing singing voice. I think her name was Molly? She was finished with my updo in 45 min and I have long thick hair. I had a wedding and I needed it to be good, but I ended up taking a shower and drying my hair at home. Came here to get a blowout before a meeting. 2 stars because they were able to accommodate me in a tight timeframe. The actual blowout was horrible. I asked for a voluminous pin curl blowout and added that I didn't want to make my length look too short though. She asked if i wanted it straight and I said absolutely not. I ended up with a flat blowout flipped out at the ends. I looked like a child from the 70s. The funniest part was that when the lady that checked me out asked how everything went, I said "it was ok," hoping she would offer to fix it or something, but instead she responded with "great!" LOL. This tells me one of two things - either they aim for being just OK or that they know that their services are average. Either way, I had to run to my meeting so I let it go. Underwhelming on service and experience. Having been to several of the more brand blow out salons, I guess I'm expecting something more, for the same price. We came in on a cold, windy Sunday morning for blowouts. My stylist barely spoke to me, did a quick lukewarm shampoo and conditioner, then blank faced asked what I wanted. She blew my hair out fairly quickly. No smiles, no questions. Nothing. No one offered any water, tea or maybe even bubbles? Also, while I was getting blown out, another stylist asked, pretty much every step to doing an "express keratin" on another customer seated a few seats down. My stylist kept having to tell her what to do, and at one point even telling her whatever she was doing, she was doing wrong to which she said, "I don't know I've never done this before." Uhhhh, why is this person doing something for the first time, without guidance? The experience left me wanting more. I tipped 20% but now looking back, maybe I shouldn't have. Would recommend finding a franchise where the service is more consistent and staff friendlier. read more

Swink is amazing!! I just moved to Seattle from CA, where there are blow-dry bars everywhere, so I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't discovered this great place. So far, all of the stylists I have seen have been great. You can easily book online, the hours work for busy professionals and they also sell a good selection product. I booked an appointment here to get my hair done for a wedding the same night as the appointment and also because I am from a dry climate and was frustrated with doing my hair in the humidity. I personally couldn't tame it. I also thought it might be nice to treat myself while on my vacation. I showed a picture of lose waves and I ended up with tight curls. My stylist also did not talk to me during the service. Meanwhile, another stylist a few chairs down was having a personable time with her client. I am now stuck in my hotel room fixing the curls and trying to get them how I wanted. read more
