Charbon in the best! I have been going there since they opened. Not only is it the cutest boutique style salon I have ever been to, but the stylists are the best to! I see Rayna for cuts and Melissa for color. Rayna has been cutting my hair for years and I will follow her wherever she goes! She really listens to what you want and consistency delivers! And she is always up to date on the latest styles! (And there is never a dull moment with her! You will leave with a giant smile on your face after chatting with her!!!) I have found very few people who balayage as well as Melissa! My hair looks great every time! I went somewhere else when she was on maternity leave and I ended up having to cut 6 inches of my hair off because it got so damaged! I learned my lesson to not go anywhere else for color after that (I am a blonde). I also learned that she uses something to strengthen your hair at the same time she lightens it- brilliant! I have been getting my hair done at Charbon Salon for over 7 years - I have walked out looking flawless every time! Every stylist there is extremely talented - Rayna cuts my hair and not only is she super friendly but she is truly an expert! I recently got my hair colored by Lahiki and my hair truly has never look so amazing and felt so great. All the staff are super kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating - and the salon itself is gorgeous! I also really appreciate the steps they are taking to be COVID-safe. Constant cleaning, social distancing, and mask wearing along with the fact that all the staff are vaccinated makes me feel really safe! read more

I needed to take a few deep breaths before writing this review. I was scheduled for a bleach and tone while my partner was scheduled for full highlights at this salon and we just had one of the worst experiences with this business. For starters, I emailed them to schedule and they never replied so I eventually had to call in to be booked. Next, I walked my partner to her appointment today and moments later she called me to explain that they cancelled her appointment and sent her away as they hadn't booked her for enough time to do her full service despite her detailed email description of what she wanted done. They only booked minimal time for color which makes no sense and shows absolute lack of experience. After sending away a person that took off work and came all the way into the city to this highly rated salon they took no accountability and only offered to rebook her a month out. Imagining someone coming in for a wedding or special event to be treated this way is extremely unprofessional. For being a high rated salon one would imagine they know how to allocate the correct amount of time for highlights. My partner called in after and the owner only relayed that nothing could be done other than her waiting a month for a new appointment. Neither of us will return to this place and only after expressing that I was planning to write a review did they seem to show any remorse but still didn't offer a sooner date nor discount. TERRIBLE customer service. No accountability. We were invested in finding a consistent salon and they lost good business and showed no compassion or care. There are plenty of other great salons in the area and we advise the community to find another place that prioritizes customers. read more

Rayna is an absolute miracle worker. I was planning a wedding from the east coast and wanted someone who could come to our hotel room and do an awesome job working with my super thin hair + bridesmaids and the moms. My mom knew Rayna, recommended her, and the rest is history! Rayna made me stop panicking about my thin hair and told me we could get my hair to look like what I wanted it to. She wasn't wrong!! I didn't come back to Seattle in time to do a trial, so she just worked her magic on the day of--and that is exactly what it was--MAGIC. I first saw Rayna ten years ago at Gene Juarez, and tracked her down when I was visiting Seattle this spring. After a few unhappy experiences with stylists over the years in Paris and the Bay Area, I decided to go with someone whom I knew could work with difficult wavy hair. Rayna did not disappoint! She's a pro when it comes to working with wavy hair and giving styling tips. These are three amazing stylists. They came over from Gene Juarez and I followed them. They were all so successful at GJ and clearly tons of people came over because they are already very busy. I haven't been to a salon in awhile, like many because of COVID, and still hadn't found a regular place, even before the pandemic, so I took a bit of a chance with choosing this place in the first place. And wow did it pay off! The team here made the whole experience amazing! The whole two hour visit was so relaxing and luxurious. The salon itself is so chic and the music choice was on point, definitely helped the time waiting on my hair pass. I got my hair cut there and it was pretty decent, no complains. Then I decided to get my highlights with Johanna, and the was the worst mistake I done. I showed her pictures and explained exactly what I wanted, when I left the place she asked "do you like it ?" and I said " I am not sure, it will light up. Correct?" She said "yes", well two washes later it has not lighten up, most of it is a chestnut color with a few green pieces in between (green because she highlighted and toned those specific pieces wrong, because no highlight is suppose to be green). Then I contacted the hair salon to give them a chance to fix it and they said I had to pay again- Unbelievable! I have gone to many salons in my lifetime and never when I was dissatisfied I had to pay again for them to fix it and even worst they blame it on me and said since it was my first time there I was clearly not going to like it.... OK then you should have not done my hair, because you are setting yourself up for failure from the get-go. The place itself is nice looking, but they share a bathroom w/ the Starbucks and there are some homeless using that bathroom too-GROSS! Do yourself a favor, keep looking, there are better salons out there that would actually appreciate your business. read more

I was referred to Chloe and her team by another bride who had fabulous wedding hair, and man did Chloe deliver for me as well. We had a great trial where Chloe took the time to review my style preferences and talk me through some suggestions. In the week leading up to the wedding, she was super communicative over phone, email and text as well. The morning of my wedding, Chloe showed up promptly on time and got straight to work. Her vibe made the morning super calm and I loved her attention to detail. She redid one of my fishtail braids two or three times simply because she wanted it to look better - good enough is not good enough for her, and that's awesome! I would absolutely recommend Chloe for another bride and will be going to her for special occasion hair / haircuts moving forward. What a gem! read more

Best. Salon. Ever! Such a friendly, funny, stylish group of colorists and designers, and possibly the cutest spot in Seattle (and Portland, for that matter). But more importantly the incredible quality and service at Charbon is incomparable. I've been going to Melissa for years and years for my color -- when I moved to Portland I tried other spots and just never got the same results. Her attention to detail in how my hair will look, not just when I walk out the door but for the next weeks (ok sometimes months), has made all the difference in me actually loving my hair. The same has been true of my cuts. I am astonished at how flexible my haircuts end up being. Chloë always gives me something perfectly balanced between fashion forward and manageable for a working mom with minimal time to groom. I couldn't ask for more! I've been going to Charbon since it opened and getting cuts with Rayna for years before that. Always a great experience and a beautiful cut (wine with my appointment? yes please). Also worth noting that I'm biracial, black + white, and have super thick hair that varies from curly to wavy to kinky textures and I typically wear it straight. Rayna knows exactly what to do with it and gives a killer blowout and straighten with my cut. I'm super picky and pretty type A so not easy to please but have always been so satisfied with each visit. I always feel good sending people there. I've gotten some great products and education on best ways to take better care of my hair and prevent damage given all the heat I tend to use. Go see these ladies you won't regret it!!! read more

Lahiki is THE BEST colorist. I finally found her again after she left Gene Jaurez. She had gotten my hair to a beautiful platinum before she left and the new person GJ put me with turned me yellow - it's never been the same since. My hair is almost back to where it was in just one sitting with Lahiki. I am sooooooooooo happy! Charbon Salon is super cute with a great atmosphere. All the artists I observed during my visit really seemed to be taking their time and listening to their clients. Rayna took over after my wash to dry and style, she offered to clean up my neck line which saved me trip to downtown. It's nice to see a place that cares more about the client then rushing people in and out. Awesome customer service all around. Go check it out and for color you absolutely must see Lahiki. While I did not personally get a haircut, I did see a couple of people today and they did a great job. Go early to find parking, there are garages nearby but Belltown is busy traffic is a mess with the construction so extra painful. read more

When the big day finally came, I switched things up on Rayna and wanted something a little different and she didn't bat an eye. The hair turned out perfect! I've been seeing Melissa for over a year now at Charbon (and several years prior to that at Gene Juarez), and it's been a pleasure to support her as a business owner as I've continued receiving top-notch, consistent service and results. A good colorist can be hard to find and a bad color job can be a nightmare to fix. I promise you are in good hands with Melissa - she is a steady, thoughtful and confident artist who will listen to your every request and concern and deliver spot-on results time and again. For haircuts, I alternate between seeing Rayna and Chloe - they both do a great job and offer helpful insights if I'm feeling indecisive.
