Another great find on yelp! I came here on a Saturday with one of my friends. We didn't have a reservation. We put our name down and took a quick stroll around the block. They also have a nice bar area where you can wait. My lavender G&T was one of the best drinks I've had in a while. For my main course I got the linguini with prawns, mussels, clams in a cream sauces. It was not too big of a portion size and was delicious. If you are super hungry I might get an appetizer to go with it. Also, they make the pasta spicy to taste. SWeL exceeded my expectations. The food was superb. They have plenty of gluten free options and are super accommodating to dietary restrictions. I ordered the pork chop and can say it was the best pork chop I've ever had. The meat was tender and the gravy, don't get me started on the gravy, was creamy with rich mushroom flavors. The potatoes were better than my grandmother's (sorry grandma). So who would want to eat at SWeL? If you are looking for an upscale yet unpretentious place in Fremont, then SWeL is a good move. In theory, SWel sounds like a great place that merges all the food I love with no real attachment to a particular cuisine. I however was not too impressed with the food, but I'm willing to give it another try. I came in on a weeknight with some friends and managed to get a table right away. The ambiance was intimate and a little too dimly lit. My fiancé and I ended up sharing the clam/mussel linguine, and the large sausage pizza. The clam/mussell linguine tasted great, but for the price of $24.50, the portion side was just sad. The sausage pizza was delicious and I loved the crust, yet the portion size felt smaller than it should of been for $17.5. Our server might of been new, but she somehow forgot to place our order, but happily comped dessert for us, which was a nice touch. We got the Bolas Dulces - which is their signature pizza dough, fried and coated in cinnamon sugar. It is served with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It was indeed a great end to a mediocre meal. I'd recommend writing a little description of what Bolas Ducles are, because if the server didn't bring it out for us, I would not of ordered it on my own. Went here for a girlfriends birthday party! Great spot, accommodating for the party, and solid food. I had the mushroom pasta with sausage and spicy and it was tasty, but not quite worth the $28 price tag. I kind of want my mind to be blown with a flavor combination for that price. Similarly, the cookies & ice cream we shared was crispy and delicious, but not quite worth the $12/ each. Great for a night out and definitely has delicious food, but just doesn't nail it on the price-to-food ratio for me. I was charged $8 for a mocktail that was a mojito without the gin and again, I was happy to have something to sip and toast with, but not the caliber of Pair or Homer's mocktails (and twice the price). After experiencing the joy of SWeL earlier this summer, it was time to go back and see if the second time would also be a charm. Naturally it was. While there, we saw every combination of tables: sexy date night, large family gathering night, old friends bonding night, and so-on. It was nice to be surrounded by people who obviously enjoyed sharing that space with loved ones - or trying to get some love! Next, let's talk about the discomfort I faced when I walked in the door. This young bearded guy turns around, and says with a big smile "Welcome to SWeL! We're glad you're here this evening! Did you by chance make a reservation?" I was like "Woah - SLOW DOWN! YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE ACTUALLY ENJOYING YOUR JOB AND I'M NOT USED TO THIS!" I later spotted this same fellow smiling by himself even when he thought nobody was looking. #Too-friendly. Next, we had the pleasure of being served by Amy W, who was all too wise about every part of the menu and always was - UGH - NICE and HUMAN! You know how it is when you just want your waiter to be mean, rude, and unhelpful? Clearly Amy never got the message! So, we embark on a delicious meal, with some new items (like the shrimp - wow)! And, we returned to the prosciutto pizza - it was a classic. But, why are you bringing the chili oil that I was craving before I even ASKED for it! NO! Stop being proactive and thoughtful! Later, as we enjoyed our beverages and food, a quiet and kind fellow carefully stood in the background politely waiting for us to stop scarfing down the (I think it was Tiffany-island) oysters. "Would you like me to remove those plates at this time?" I couldn't help but think: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARE YOU BEING HELPFUL?!??!?!" But there were like 3-4 plates, so how could he remove all of them at once? Oh boy. He took one at a time and started balancing them carefully like he was walking a tightrope across a mountain - coupled with a stealth movement like he was performing surgery. And then, of course, he walked away with a smile. But, the most infuriating thing happened when we needed a drink for the youngin'. She wanted "orange juice", which they don't actually have on the menu. So, next thing I know, Amy is explaining that they have perhaps 3-4 oranges at the bar and that she can have a hand-squeezed portion out in just a few minutes. And then it arrived and it was delicious. ARRGH! As the meal ended, frankly, any price would have been reasonable for that joyous experience. Now, did I *enjoy* the market-price amount for the oysters? NO! But, would I do it again? Yeah, they were really good. You got me. Finally, as we eventually made our way out, Amy felt compelled to say "Thank you for joining us tonight" and "It was really a pleasure. We appreciate you." AAARRGGH! It was too much for this cynic to bear. And so as we walked out quietly, I knew that only one thing could ruin our experience. And, there he was - cool bearded guy. Standing near the front entrance, he looked up, smiled the biggest smile I've ever seen, and said: "Thank you for stopping by. We'd love to see you again soon." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! For the rest of the week, I was soaked in an aura of kindness, and nothing would shake it off! We read some great yelp reviews, and chose to eat an early dinner here very recently. Our waiter, Ian, was helpful, upbeat, friendly and attentive... this bar and restaurant has an artsy, happy vibe that was not lost on us. We chose two appetizers... the baked goat cheese with pistachios was a delicious choice. We also got fresh guacamole... we preferred the former, but enjoyed both. For our main course, I enjoyed the tasty beet salad.. super yummy! My guest got a Caesar salad with added prawns . I enjoyed a lemon drop martini and my guest had a soda. I'm glad we got there early. We had excellent service from an experienced waiter, delicious food , pleasant ambiance and delightful background music that was soft enough that it didn't intrude on our conversation. We're in town for a conference and picked SWeL because of good reviews and easy reservations through Resy. My friend and I were so pleasantly surprised! We shared the goat cheese starter, beet salad, pear and Gorgonzola pizza, and mushroom pappardelle. All plates were a delight, but we especially enjoyed the pasta (definitely worth adding the sausage). Service was the perfect amount of attentive and overall ambience was great. "Shit We Like," shortened to SWeL is hip and swanky. On a Saturday night, there's an upbeat personality, and also a warm ambience about it- some house music playing in the background just adds more energy and liveliness to the room. The lighting is dim, but there's no shortage of candles to create a more intimate atmosphere. I'm impressed with how they designed the interior layout. In terms of first impressions, I can vibe with this place. First, the service here is top notch. My friends and I walked in with no reservation and waited no more than 15 minutes for a table. We were warmly greeted by the business owner (I assume), and were proactively followed up on throughout the night by various staff. The server was cordial and very engaging, and was helpful in providing us with her recommendations and insights from the menu. For a sharables, we had the calamari sautéed in garlic basil over arugula, and also an Italian sausage pizza. The calamari is a zesty dish where the squid and the greens are in perfect harmony with one another- it didn't feel like mainly salad with some skimpy squid portions, per se. Also the pizza was really good- fresh and toasty with a nice balance of melty cheesy goodness and spicy sausage, with some caramelized onion to give it a slightly sweet taste to bring it all together. Get the pizza if you're down to share! For main entree, I had the French cut pork chop. The marsala sauce was perfectly savory and complemented the potatoes and pork chop very well. And the portobello mushrooms had a mildly sweet, but also earthy taste that also mixes in well for the dish. SWeL is like a happening bar, while also maintaining a high-quality and interesting main food menu. I'll start off by saying our server was great, establishment was cute, but..I was FAR from impressed with the food @ this place. I called ahead to ensure they could accommodate vegans and they assured me they had a few great options. We get there for dinner w/a group and my husband and I decided upon a "loaded" veggie pizza without cheese to make it easy. Our pizza came out. It consisted of VERY little mushroom and onions (like, extremely scarce) and was completely covered entirely with dry arugula. Really? The pizza was paper thin. It was the most disappointing veggie pizza I've EVER seen a restaurant put together. To top that, we got the bill and saw they charged $18 for it!! No joke, we had multiple slices that had nothing on it but tomato sauce..‍ ‍ Morale of the story. Vegan community: I DO NOT recommend this place. **Update in response to owner message** As a customer, I have every right to give my personal opinion on any and every establishment. I did just that, and had the owner tell me that I'm standing on a soap box yelling to the public and he's tired of unhappy customers "running to their mother". Really?! May I suggest learning more about customer acquisition and retention? To be quite frank, I shouldn't have to complain when I get my food. I made it very clear that we were vegan before arriving AND at the restaurant when conversing with server. Your establishment took it upon yourself to make us a "vegan" pizza that had two vegetables on it. Way to go over and beyond the first time around. I guess it's my fault tho since I didn't complain, right? It's ridiculous that you can't let someone give their honest opinion without passively aggressively insulting them. Great place to catch up with friends. The food and drinks here are delicious. Grab a couple of pizzas to share or harbor your own entrée, regardless you'll love it here. The grilled calamari was wonderfully flavored. We enjoyed the Italian sausage and the pepperoni pizza, both larges. Those tiny pepperonis are sooooooooo yummy! The seafood linguine, mixed with clams, mussels, and tiger prawns in a garlic cream sauce was just as perfect as perfect can be! And the chocolate cookie made in a cast iron pan is just addictively tasteful! I requested for a chocolate scoop since I could not have the vanilla. Just amazing! What a lovely spot! I'm only sorry we just tried it yesterday. We were celebrating a birthday with some friends and had such a great time. We leisurely ordered drinks at our table and eventually ordered our dinner, which was coursed out and timed perfectly. The host was so accommodating and an absolute riot and our server was such a pro - truly a fantastic experience all around. The food was awesome - the seafood was fresh and tasty, the salads were simple but delicious, the desserts were fun takes on classics (like a skillet choco chip cookie!). Yes, I loved it and I want to come back. It felt very relaxing and chill, great vibe. I enjoyed their cocktails. I had their caperol spritz and strawberry fields with tequila added. I had their goat cheese appetizer as well as the scallop appetizer. I preferred the goat cheese dish but both were great. I loved the pappardelle entrée but I had to steal the mushrooms that came with my partner's pork chop entrée, oddly amazing. We finished off our meal with their pear bread pudding and espresso martini. While their food was good, their service and environment was even better. I don't think you can go wrong here. read more

First of all, this place is gorgeous. It's so romantic with its mood lighting and elegant decor. Before we had to hop on the plane to go home, my husband and I wanted some pizza and decided on SWeL because we loved the neighborhood and the pictures of the pizza looked awesome. We just so happened to arrive around 4:30 while happy hour was going on so we snagged a spot at the bar and ordered a margarita pizza, Caesar salad, and some bread. I'm not sure what they do to the bread (warm it in the oven?) to give it such an amazing flavor but I could easily eat several loaves of the stuff. The pizza was amazing. Superb flavor, crispy crust, fresh cheese - so on point. Ate dinner here last night and the food was so delicious, every dish we ate was finished instantly it was sooo good. The arugula salad was light and tasty the calamari was not your typical battered fried style it was so fresh and seasoned well. My seafood linguini white sauce (sauce was made just right creamy and flavorful) was one of the best pastas I've ever had it was the perfect portion after eating the appetizers. I was looking for a nice place to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with a group of friends. This place was suggested and I'm VERY happy it was. We had a group of 10; I think that is the largest group they can realistically handle. I called ahead a week in advance to see if they could handle this request, they moved some things around, asked if we could come in at a slightly earlier time, and made it work. The food was amazing (we ordered pizzas, pasta, and apps), the drinks were great, everything was reasonably priced, and the staff was very friendly. I will be coming back for sure. read more

Food is all delicious. My friend had a pizza and it came out with a bottle of chili oil (genius) to drizzle. I had the Caesar salad and it was great. The large was a perfect entree size and I could have added protein if I'd been more hungry, including salmon or shrimp for those of us avoiding meat/poultry. The waitstaff was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was nice though we were there on a slow night, I think it would feel a bit cramped if full. The music (like most restaurants these days) was too loud but our waitress was happy to turn it down a bit when we asked. The only let down was the wine list. By-the-glass selections were limited, it was all overpriced, and the pours were stingy. I had the most expensive red (we were celebrating) and the waitress said it was by far the best of the options (there were only three) at $15 a glass. It was meh. The others were $10. A dim lighted - romantic restaurant which beckons for date nights. I came here for my birthday and we were seated in the individual cabana seating. We had rosè and some red wine with the beet salad which was lovely and very flavorful. The service was excellent and prompt. We had the pear and gorgonzola pizza ( such a delicious pairing) one of the most exquisite combinations I could not have fathomed. Had a drink in a very crowded Googley hangout. Reminded me of a upper notch college bar. Probably one of the nicer joints in Fremont.
