We chose a pick-up time and I showed up 3 mins before; there was someone working at the door who asked for my name and pick-up time. There were lines on the ground outside the sweetgreen for pick-up, so pay attention to those to maintain safe social distancing when you pick up your order! There were 2 other people there on a Monday at noon and they kept their safe distance away from me. I am a regular at Sweetgreen in New York and visited this location last night while visiting DC. When I started eating my salad I noticed it was unbearable salted to the point it was impossible to eat (even the sweetness of the balsamic vinaigrette dressing couldn't balance it out). I ended up figuring out it was the sweet potatoes that were extremely salted (again not just salted but extremely salted) so I removed them from the salad but the salt had already impregnated everything else. It was late at night so I couldn't go back to store and ended up eating half of the salad at my hotel just because I was too hungry. This is a very spacious, bright, and welcoming location! I came here after an outdoor yoga class in Logan circle. This spot is right on P street across from the Whole Foods, and a short 12 minute walk from DuPont metro (red line). I got my favorite salad, Guacamole Greens, and it was delicious as usual! I came in here today and ordered the most awesome salad you can think of. It's called the Buffalo Chicken Salad! It included blackened chicken, romaine lettuce I believe, tomatoes, celery, and all sorts of other veggies under the sun. When I went inside, there were at least four employees working behind the counter. They had no seating inside which is pretty much like everywhere else, however only a single table set up outside with a single chair. I thought that was a bit odd. The salad was prepared in minutes, and they provided generous portions of all the right ingredients. I had to wait until zi brought it up to my apartment before I took the first bite. This salad was super delich and not to mention healthy food which is something my body had been craving for. The new location is great, right in the heart of Logan Circle, and I always like supporting local businesses. I get something different almost every time, but there are a few salads I especially like. The Curry Gold has romaine, chicken, almonds, and coconut in a curry pineapple yogurt dressing and is excellent. I also like Le Parisien, which has turkey, brie, and other deliciousness in a champagne vinaigrette. If nothing on the menu suits you, you can create anything to your liking, so it's hard to go wrong! After your meal (or whenever you're out and about), the frozen yogurt will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. You can choose your own toppings, and the yogurt is fat free: bonus! If you haven't been to Sweetgreen, it's one of those "build your own salad" places where the salad maker mixes all the ingredients for you when you order. I definitely love the concept and wish there were more of these types of restaurants around. However, I must say that Sweetgreen, while offering an array of fresh and tasty salads, is my least favorite restaurant with this concept. I prefer Chop't (NYC and DC) and Dressed (Atlanta). Sweetgreen offers a variety of healthy (and not-so-healthy) mix-ins to dress your salad, but they have very few signature salads on their menu--and most of them, made "as is" from their menu, are just not that exciting to me. Of course, I could always order a custom-made salad with just about anything I wanted, but that's too much pressure and thinking when you've got a line of 20 people behind you ready to order a salad. Honestly, I've never had a bad salad at Sweetgreen, and I continue to go back b/c my partner, Vinny, loves the place. However, every time I go there, I get stressed because I feel the pressure of conjuring up selections for a custom-made salad when all I really want is for Sweetgreen to offer additional salad recipes for me to choose from. This particular location of Sweetgreen is small, and, on a couple of occasions, I've had to wait, holding my already-built salad, for a seat. I find it a tad strange that a business that prides itself in "celebrating community" goes and introduces a cashless policy. It's ridiculous and unnecessarily discriminatory against people who are unable to get credit. What type of community are we building if we are leaving behind those in DC (and elsewhere) who need our help most? Or do only the top x% get to eat salad? It was not a great direction to go, and last time I read up on it they were giving free salads to people that didn't have a credit card, but a) that seems impossible to sustain and b) could possibly be embarrassing/stigmatizing. Food-wise, there's not much to dislike about sweetgreen [for a non-homemade salad place.] There's a good variety of greens, everything always tastes fresh, they keep seasonal salads on the menu, the portions are big. This particular location is staffed with friendly people, and at some point they partnered with the lululemon to have the run club eat free every Wednesday. It was a promotional tactic, of course, and a nice gesture to the demographic that would run with lululemon. Yep, I benefited from it and of course loved it ...but... No jokes about vegans and salad, please. I do like Sweetgreen, and I normally create my own, mixing the spinach and romaine lettuces. I also greatly appreciate that unlike some other salad chains (*cough* Chop't *cough*) they roast the tofu that goes on the salad. It makes a difference and adds bulk to the salad. I've only had the miso sesame dressing, but it's pretty good. And I appreciate the warm bread it comes with. Is it a bit expensive? Yes, but the ingredients are high quality. And the portions are decent. I also like patronizing a local business. The Logan Circle location is rather small, but I must have gone at off times since I've never had trouble getting a seat. I had lost hope in healthy places after going to Sweet Tomatoes (who really emphasize quantity/profit over quality - it's like Golden Corral with more veggies) - then a friend gave me part of their Wild Child bowl from this place. Sweetgreen is different and delicious! They use really great ingredients sourced from local farmers that they are proud to partner with. You know when they are offering purslane and farro that they are not your average chain. I hope they expand as fast as they can while maintaining their unique farm-to-table suppliers and great quality! The Wild Child bowl is really good - I don't think you can go wrong here though. I appreciate the vegan options and labeling on the menu. I also love their commitment to ethics and sustainability. Many companies just ignore this, and I'm glad Sweetgreen does the following cool stuff: **Packaging: We use 100% plant-based compostable packaging non derived from oil. Whenever I get the craving for some extra vitamins and minerals I come to this establishment because I know the salads and warm bowls won't let me down. Chock full of kale and healthy fats, I've never been disappointed by a bowl. Perhaps at times even delaighted by some of the ingredients. (Basil in the Miso Warm Bowl for example). You even get to adjust how much sugar you want in your drink with this liquid syrup on the side. Ingredients are always tasty and fresh. You can never go wrong with dressings. Instead of croutons they serve bread. The bread is still good but can be dry sometimes and is optional. My go to favorites are the Harvest Bowl and Miso Bowl. Sweetgreen is a reliable fast healthy option. I enjoy that they don't have too many overwhelming options. I guess if you go to one place too often, something is bound to happen sometimes to your food. My husband and I went to this sweet green at least once a week for salads. Usually pretty good with the occasional illness from something clearly not stored-proper properly. Unfortunately our worst experience to date happened Monday night after we grabbed salads from sweet green for dinner. I ordered the avocabbo and my husband ordered the seasonal watermelon feta salad. We got the salads to go and went up to our rooftop to eat there and enjoy the lovely weather. As we started eating, my husband commented there was a weird very strong taste to the salad he couldn't figure out. From my view of the clear container from the back, I noticed it looked like something was moving in his salad. Could it be the wind? Definitely not. I mentioned it to him, he spit out his salad, and we closely examined the container and saw the green bug about an inch big with its furious legs crawling around in the salad. Nasty. Nasty. At that point, we were absolutely disgusted, took photos and video for proof, and tossed the salads. I emailed sweet green the next day about the incident with video, and they still haven't yet even refunded our Sweetgreen rewards accounts. I think it's great that they are expanding country wide, but they need to focus on quality assurance at their current locations too.
