After searching Yelp for something yummy for dinner, we came across this place and decided to stop on our way home. This place is tucked away in a little pristine shopping center. What else can you expect around Tysons Corner...everything looks pretty. We parked right in front and headed in. The restaurant is dim and it almost looked closed except for the fact that there were a good amount of people in for late evening on a Sunday. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and led to our seats. The menu boasts a lot of interesting combinations, hence to reference to the fusion style of cooking. For example, their eggrolls had cream cheese in them from what I was told by the waiter. I didn't try them on this visit but maybe next time I'll venture out and try it because it sounds good and who can go wrong with cream cheese? We ordered shrimp, chicken and veggie combo lo mein and I had to have some sushi. I had a couple bites of the lo mein which was packed full of veggies and proteins. The veggies had the perfect amount of char only achieved by stir frying and the noodles were flavorful, cooked to the right consistency. That sushi though!!! Rock lobster with thin slivers of avocado wrapped around shrimp with beautifully colored tobiko on top finished off with a honey type glaze. This stuff was crazy good! Now I understand why they have all of thos ZAGAT recognition stickers in their entrance. The menu is innovative and the food simply tastes good. My son and I ate at this restaurant a couple of weeks ago. We were both disappointed to say the least. We ordered their bento boxes and some side sushi rolls. The sushi rice was cold. I expected freshly made sushi rice to be of room temperature and soft, but this tasted like the rice was in the fridge for a while and it was a bit hard. As for the bento boxes - all the items were very unremarkable. There was this mashed-potato like item that was almost tasteless. My tempura was okay, again I expected a bit better. This little Japanese restaurant in Vienna is quite popular; I went for lunch on a Friday with a friend, and the place was packed. The food here was above average, and their lunch boxes were very filling. I would not really call it authentic, however, since their rolls cater to a more fusion Asian style than traditional sushi rolls; hence why it is probably so popular with the upper-middle class Caucasian folk that I saw crowding the restaurant during lunch hour. (You know, the type that claim to "love sushi," but have only ventured trying California rolls and Philadelphia rolls and will not dare touch any actual raw fish.) The decor of the interior is beautiful - conservative yet somehow modern, and there is ample parking since it is part of a shopping center. I have wanted to try Sweet Ginger for a while after seeing the reviews. My experience was only so so. The decor and atmosphere was nice. The presentation of my dinner was pretty and colorful. The sushi rolls were on the cheaper side ($3-5 for your normal rolls, $9-13 for specialty). I ordered the king crab roll with no mayo and the spicy tuna roll. They both had way too much tempura flakes. It was hard to taste much else in the king crab roll. I wouldn't order it again. The spicy tuna was average. It wasn't bad but it was nothing to write home about. I think I'll try the other sushi spots in Vienna before I return. I love going here for lunch since I work nearby. I have been going somewhat regularly for a few months now. It can get pretty busy around noon on weekdays, but you can almost always be seated right away if you get there a little earlier. The service is always good at Sweet Ginger, even when they are busy. I usually get their lunch roll combination special. It is an inexpensive way to enjoy a couple rolls for a quick lunch. Even though the food quality is great, the customer service on the other hand not that much especially if you are ordering carry out. I asked for extra spicy mayo and over the phone they said "we'll gove you three" but when I opened the food up, the sauce was so little at the bottom of the container that I could see the bottom of the cardboard. This is the most fresh sushi and sashimi that we have found in Northern Virginia. It's one of the only stores around here whose sushi and sashimi do not prompt me to use any wasabi or soy sauce. We just eat the delicious sushi, cleanse the palate with the fresh ginger, and move to the next piece. They also offer "real" wasabi for an additional charge. It definitely tastes differently and more "fresh" than the regular wasabi. In most stores outside of Japan, the "wasabi" paste is actually horseradish and mustard by necessity because the real wasabi's main ingredient is notoriously difficult to cultivate. This "real" wasabi is tasty, chunky, and doesn't burn so much. Give it a try and tell us what you think. A note about white tuna: If you're a fan of escolar, a.k.a. "white tuna," it's available here. Escolar isn't for everyone. Some people can't digest it properly and as such stores that offer escolar on the menu can receive unfairly poor ratings. Sweet Ginger notes clearly on their menu that their "white tuna" item is escolar. Our family happens to love escolar and it's nice that this store is thoughtful in bringing attention to this controversial fish. read more

It came with shrimp and vegetable tempura, 4 pieces of nigiri, miso soup, salad with a creamy miso dressing, and some rice. The bento's presentation was nice and all of the food that came in it was absolutely delicious. The tempura was fried perfectly and had the perfect crunch to it. The nigri was all very fresh and full of great flavor. We only spent $30 with tip already included for 2 people which is what amazed me the most! Sweet Ginger still manages to RAVE SUPREME. If you really know about fresh quality fish, then you would know that this is the best restaurant in the metro area for sashimi and sushi. After trying other high rated restaurants, going back to Sweet Ginger was like getting fresh whipped cream instead of cool whip. I was there last Saturday and the yellow tail was the best I have ever had-it was so fresh, tangy, and delicious (I could have eaten a who plate)! All of the fish was grade A fresh and tasty. The owner of the restaurant, Pete, has always been a fantastic manager who always ensures his customers are satisfied. The service was great and the employees are welcoming and friendly.
