It is hard to tell in this picture but Roll Play will load up your bowl with protein, noodles, and veggies. I got the beef combination pho and enjoyed all the different cuts of beef, especially the oxtail, so tender and flavorful. I grabbed oyster sauce and siracha but did not use it because the broth was seasoned SO WELL. I plan to come back soon for the oxtail bahn mi! This location recently changed their interior and now has plenty of seating inside. It is always clean and service is always swift and friendly. Don't worry about coming here when it is too hot outside because the AC is strong too. The mango sago dessert was not my favorite, texture was a little too slippery for me. Well, not the best, but not the worst. We sampled a lot and the experience was inconsistent across all the food. Let's begin: Wings - Very small, but tasty. They need to be bigger! Chicken Bites - Best of the lot. Very tender. Spring Rolls - Seemed previously frozen. Filling ingredients did not seem fresh. And, they were overcooked. Staff is still very friendly and I appreciate their hours. I still love their magnum rolls (or whatever they are called these days). This is very much a to go (fast food) spot for Vietnamese food. If you're looking for food on the go or delivery, it's a decent spot. Otherwise, I wouldn't really go out of my way to dine in here. For one, the spacing is pretty tight, but the overall aesthetic is also kind of gloomy. Service is okay. They take your order at the counter and then bring it to you. The rest is available to grab (plastic utensils, water, etc.). This is one of the sadder phos I've ever had, so definitely encourage others to try other dishes. If your friends want to go out, but you're trying to stay on a diet, I think I would recommend that you go to Roll Play. The reason why is because you can just get a bunch of meat and summer rolls and it doesn't hurt your diet too much. While the prices are admittedly on the higher side (except for the summer and egg rolls) the flavor is good. The oxtail and American Wagyu is a bit of a buzz word dish in the sense that it just means that the meat that you're getting has a higher fat content (hence wagyu). Tapping said the meat is very tender, and it has a very mild meaty broth flavor. I honestly couldn't taste the difference between the beef brisket in my summer roll and the pulled oxtail in American Wagyu meat. The summer roll was filled with crunchy vegetables and came with a lovely spicy peanut sauce, but I would say that spicy peanut sauce was not very spicy at all. I almost thought that they just accidentally gave me regular peanut sauce. That being said, it is still a good and rich watery peanut sauce. The Vietnamese iced coffee is bold sweet and creamy, and it will make you have to use the restroom. There seems to be only one restroom, but it is well maintained. It is located off of 7 and that can be a little bit stressful because traffic is there is unrelenting and getting out is kind of annoying. Man oh man do I love this place. My go to option here is the Rolls and my wife's is the Ban Mi and they ALWAYS HITTTTTT. It really had especially a a flexitarian. Roll Play has become a preferred take-out option for Vietnamese fusion dishes. I think the kiosk self-service is great as you can choose exactly what you like, or you can order in advance. If you're not in the mood for pho, the summer rolls with pork belly or shrimp are yummy. This place has a casual and fun vibe. Be sure to ask for the Vietnamese dipping sauce if you're getting the summer rolls! The only downside is that indoor space is limited and a bit cramped (3 tables maximum) so it's much easier to do take-out. Also, parking is limited near the front of the restaurant but you can go to the garage (entrance just to the left of Roll Play) and have your ticket validated. You have got to try the oxtail pho. It is absolutely divine! It comes with a good portion of pulled oxtail meat, and of course all of the customary veggies. I think that some of the juices from cooking the oxtail are added to the pho broth which just gives it this incredible depth of flavor. Despite the description, it's really not spicy. There's some chili flakes in the broth but it's way more for flavor than for spice. I don't like spicy food and I would tell you if it was spicy. The service was quick and the staff were really nice. They also offer free bottled water for customers, which is also nice. Parking is a little tricky. There are limited parking spaces in the parking lot, but the garage is free. Throughout the day you can also walk through the glass doors in the parking garage: once you exit the second set of glass doors, turn right and you'll be right at the restaurant. Saw a post on IG and wanted to give it a try. I was disappointed! When they brought my food out the protein rice bowl had very cold eggs and salmon. It literally felt like it was taken right out of the fridge. I asked the worker to make sure if it was supposed to be cold and she said no, she apologized and remade it again. The second time they brought me the bowl it was missing the eggs and I told them and when they brought them to me it was super cold again, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way. Once I tried the food, I do feel it definitely lacked a lot of flavor which was disappointing. I will say the brisket was super tender which was nice. The all meat pho also lacked flavor. It's pretty filling and I like the option that you get a choice of different sauces. Also I like the fact that you can get complimentary chili flakes and paste when you uber eats. Service is awesome. The "spicy" label was misleading --mine had about three chili slices and wasn't spicy at all. That said, I really enjoyed the broth and would consider ordering it again if the bowl came with more noodles/meat. The oxtail was more like pulled stew beef--chewy, soft and more juicy than other stewed meats. 3.25/5 Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi - I used to think this was one of Roll Play's signature items, but I didn't love it. The egg kind of overpowered everything?The bread wasn't toasted enough and kind of mushed into the fillings. A lot has happened to this place since I was last here, in 2016. For example, I assume they have cleaned the restaurant since then, but based on my visit today, it wasn't recently. And the food went from tasting fresh and delicious to tasting greasy and disgusting. I won't even mention how they left stuff out of my order because I just mentioned it. They did have the same 3-1/2 tables inside, each with a bunch of uncomfortable, tippy metal stools. The other "dine-in" option was to sit at one of the two tables that sit on the small sidewalk between the storefront and the parking lot. Ever since I have been health focused, it's been really hard to find a place to eat out. Trying to find an anti-inflammatory diet that has low carb options is incredibly tough. Here comes Roll Play with their seed oil free, organic high quality meats at an affordable price. It's hard enough to find food that is high quality, but organic butcher of McLean is on another level. They also give low carb options like Shirataki noodles. Finally, anything healthy usually has astronomical prices because quality costs a lot. They somehow keep it affordable and cost the same as casual normal food. The food is also tasty and delicious as well. So glad i have an option to get food now because 99% of other places just don't meet my standards. After getting tons of ads on socials how this Vietnamese fast-casual spot is breaking the idea of Asian food being "greasy and carb loaded", I was intrigued and lazy enough to cook to give it try on a random weekday night, since it's mid range price and okay spot that's open late a healthier option. I got myself their "noodle & salad bowl" with Atlantic salmon as my protein choice and my husband went for the Banh Mi with Chicken, as well we split the Summer Roll with tofu. My partner's Banh Mi was really big ($15 is the sandwich by itself so it must that big in order to compete with the Vietnamese mom & pop restaurants all over NoVa) pickled veggies and the flavor of the chicken were good but they forgot to give him some of the sweet chili vinegar since the sandwich was a little dry (there are hoisin sauce & sriracha packets for grabs). I wasn't very pleased with my choice since I asked for no noodles and just greens (since the low carb noodles were $3.99) but instead got a few pieces of Romaine Lettuce and 1 cup of fried shallots and toasted peanuts each (which takes away the whole idea of healthy since both things are fried even when they state not using "seed oils", still oil and calorie loaded for the deep frying). The salmon was definitely not seasoned enough, assuming you would add sriracha or spicy peanut sauce or some other sauce from their options. The fried egg rolls (vegetarian) were actually pretty good, my favorite part of my bowl, the pickled veggies needed more tang or at least a few hours more for the actual "pickling process" to happen. For me the star was the summer roll, it was packed with a glazed tofu and the veggies were fresh, their spicy peanut sauce it's perfect!! It was quick and we felt satisfied after our meal... although I would suggest to add more greens if someone is asking for no noodles/rice (volume without adding carbs). I won't order the salmon again, but probably get the tofu for the custom bowl. I will be coming back to try the veggie pho though. While my family usually heads to Eden Center for our Vietnamese fix, we decided to branch out and try Rollplay in Tysons. The place was really nice with a good amount of customers. I opted for the Power Pho, which came with a unique twist: a poached egg on top. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first and worried it wouldn't live up to the price, but I was pleasantly surprised! A few months ago my son and I went to Roll Play late at night for some pho. We ordered a couple of appetizers and he ordered a noodle soup. I ordered a bowl of broth. When the guy brought the soup to the table, we had already eaten the appetizers and my son immediately started eating. I picked up a spoonful of broth and put it in my mouth, only to scream and spit it out immediately! It was BOILING hot. I have been eating pho my entire life and never had this experience. My tongue and roof were burned with blisters and my mouth was bleeding. It was so bad I went to the minor emergency care the next day to make sure that the incident was documented. The doctor there told me that a few days before a parent came in with her 7-year-old, who also had a mouth scalded into bleeding from a pho restaurant. It took days before I could feel my mouth again or eat properly. I called management to report the incident but they did not seem interested in having a copy of the report or in having someone call me back to discuss. read more

We'd heard a lot about Roll Play and wanted to check it out. When we did, they were doing an amazing business but 99% take out. Perhaps it was because, although there is seating, it can be awkward for groups because the tables have an upper shelf running along the center. This may be a great place to put your tray but it makes it pretty hard to chat with someone on the other side. Chatting will probably also be tough because the day we visited, the music was super loud. We opted for several different dishes to share. The summer rolls featuring chicken and pork belly were very filling and could be customized. For me, the vast number of choices and decisions to be made at the kiosk was a little overwhelming, especially if there is someone behind you. I'm sure this gets easy ordering from the quiet of your own phone/computer or once you are more familiar with the menu. The spring rolls arrived nice and crisp. Our favorite was the braised brisket tacos. Everything is very filling and you will not leave hungry. I appreciate that they had large glasses for water rather than the tiny ones that a lot of quick serve places seem to offer. The staff was very friendly and even offered us a couple of extra spring rolls when they realized they had forgotten that part of our order. Parking is easy in the garage right next door. For us, Roll Play was a little loud and uncomfortable for getting together for lunch with friends or family but, looking at the takeout business they were doing, may be just right for enjoying their food somewhere else. read more

The chicken pho was like a warm hug in a bowl--comforting, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. It was the perfect meal to help me unwind after a tiring trip. With white onions, cilantro, scallions, lime and basil! And Sate chili oil ! My Coworker got the power bowl and a Vietnamese iced coffee and he said it was pretty good! I love their hours! There is no time in the day that you might need Roll Play and you might find them closed! I love the huge and amazing options on the menu! One of the highlights of my DC trips is the foodie scene. After settling into our hotel, we decided to order in using DoorDash, and I always opt toward restaurants with buy-one-get-one deals so we can get a little more bang for our buck. We stumbled upon Roll Play and their BOGO menu. We ordered the spicy oxtail pho, Thai basil chicken, fried rice, and Vietnamese coffee. Everything was delicious! The pho was flavorful (both hot and cold (since I saved some to eat this evening), meat was tender, the chicken was crispy and complemented perfectly by the sriracha aioli, and the coffee was strong (good option after our long day of traveling from the West Coast).
