I really enjoyed this place! The food was really good, I got the scallion pancake that was fluffy, and vegan lo mein with tofu. Everything was delicious. The waiter was very helpful and honest and gave good recommendations. The vibe was really cute, they had good decor, nice seating and fun music. I had enough food for at least two meals. Definitely recommend and will be back!
I really wanted this to be better. I see the reviews on Yelp. Follow their instagram. But our experience was mid at best. Late lunch on a Thursday and the place was empty. Server was nice and helpful. No sushi at lunch, at least at the time we went. We hit up a few of the standards that were recommended. I don't know , just hate to say it nothing special. I am sure others have had better times. Probably not going back.
Wanted to come here during the day for some cold sushi but that is only during dinner time. So we settled on cold noodles. Food was still good, would be even better if the cold noodles had beef shanks as an option instead of just tofu and chicken. The fried eggplants were good but nothing to rave about.
No sushi until dinner. That was a bummer considering I wasn't in much of a mood for anything heavy or fried. We got wood ear mushrooms, cold noodles, and fried eggplant. Like their cold noodles so it was a good substitution for sushi. I didn't really touch the eggplant because I didn't want fried food, so it was all for my boyfriend
Spicy wonton was good. Other dishes like Dumpling and scallion pancake etc were okay. Will be back to try other dishes in the future. We came during dinner time and the service was slow. It took a while to get food, get a bowl or chopsticks etc. it's a good restaurant to hang out and saw some people on date night. Very relaxed vibe. Some good paintings on the wall. The decorating feels like home.
This is one of the few Taiwanese restaurants in Austin, but overall, I found it just okay. Given the limited competition, it may be worth a visit when you're really craving Taiwanese food, but I've had better versions of these dishes elsewhere--and even made some better at home. At this price point, the quality and flavors did not feel worth it to me.
Sweet Chive has been blowing up on another platform so hard to give this a try. Came for family dinner night. Wow! This was not a disappointment!!! It's a total mom n pop small place packed full of goodness. Literally everything is made from scratch and so amazingly fresh. Thank you influencer Caroline for the hype! Starter off with the pancakes and chili vegan. Both so very tasty and fresh n hot! The chili sauce packed a punch but not overwhelming. You would not even know they were vegan at all. Let's talk about this beautiful egg! No idea how it's made but it has the most unique flavor. Normally I can pick out an herb or flavor, nope not at all. Has the most distinctive taste and so very pretty too when it arrives! All of our mains were so delicious! I had the dumplings myself but did try a bit of everyone's meals and they were all perfectly flavored. If you are wanting to have everyone's Neal come at the same time, not here. You get your food pipping hot straight from the kitchen. Which was great. No heat lamps here. Service was great. We believe the owners came out and checked on us and of course we raved. It was packed for a rainy cold Saturday night but it was warm and kind inside. Parking is limited so be prepared to find street parking. Thanks Caroline for the recommendation!!!
We absolutely love the food here! Some of the best Taiwanese i've ever had. We started with the pork belly sliders and dumplings. Although we preferred the sliders, the dumplings were tasty. I had the pork noodle soup and my husband had the beef noodle soup. Truly a very tough choice to what was our favorite. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service. I can't wait to come back!
This restaurant serves both Taiwanese and Japanese food. We were immediately drawn to the beef noodle soup, which was a very comforting warm meal. My friend ordered the chive pocket but was then told shortly after that they were out of it. I do think most of the menu items seem like quite the small portions for a high price. The beef noodle soup was around $20 before tip. This is probably one of their dishes of better value as the portion size was sufficient. The restaurant has what I would describe as a very clean look to it. It's a nice ambience with minimalist decor. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant as well as street parking.
Stopped in here for a drink. Great service and super nice people. Loved the atmosphere. Very good drinks and not expensive. Hot saki. Good variety. Non alcoholic too.
On another work trip and one thing great about business trips, you can try out restaurants. I visited this restaurant because after my long drive from Houston, I was craving some dumplings. I remembered I had dumplings in Portland, OR and wanted to savor buns in my mouth with sauce to dip them in. I was ready!! The restaurant is located in Old East Austin near Juiceland. About 10 minutes from Tru Hotel near the airport. Thankfully, there was a small parking lot with tight parking spaces. When I walked inside the very cold temperature of a restaurant, I was immediately told with a smile to sit anywhere. I of course, sat at a small table as it was only me dining in. There was one other person with a child dining too, so the dining area was fairly quiet. The crowd didn't come until after 6:00 PM as I was leaving. I ordered the vegan dumplings, a winter melon drink, and a scallion pancake appetizer (vegan). The appetizer and drink came out first. The drink came out in a Shiner glass. I wasn't sure if it was alcoholic or not; so that was confusing. I don't drink alcohol anymore for health reasons. Graciously, the drink didn't give me a spike. The drink was very sweet, but refreshing. I was given a side water. I liked winter melon drink as I've never had that before, but no refills. Next time, I'll try a hot tea. The scallion pancake was very tasty. That within itself could have been a meal. I took me back to the days when I attended an Korean Christian church and at break, they served scallion pancake. I miss those days to be honest. The batter was crispy, but not gummy, but chewy. The dipping sauce was divine and within itself could have been a salty drink. Haha!! I wanted to gobble it up, but I waited until the final meal of dumplings arrived. Surprisingly, the dumpings were absolutely a stunner of deliciousness. Omg, as I was eating it, I thought to myself, these taste so much better than the dumplings I had in Portland. The dumplings at Sweet Chive was packed with so much flavor and the filling was stuffed, but not the point of falling out. The wrapper was neatly formed with slight crisp, the filling well seasoned of what appeared to be tofu and vegetables, and this dipping sauce was the same for the pancake. I honestly wanted to ask them to jar that up for me to take home. I loved my meal and so badly wanted seconds, but having recently lost 10 lbs I just couldn't chance it. I'm for sure going to add this Taiwanese restaurant to my list of favorites of Austin. Funny thing, I lived in Austin for a year and having to never visited this place, but frequently went to the Juiceland across the way. Anyways, the staff was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations on the winter melon drink. I'll be back once I'm in Austin again. I slept like a baby because Sweet Chive made that possible. Keep whipping up solid good food!
Came back to Sweet Chive over the weekend for a quick dinner. I said it before, and I'll say it again - the spicy chili wontons are SO good! Had to order them again. This time, I grabbed the spicy wontons, scallion pancakes, miso soup and the rainbow roll. My husband grabbed the Pancake Sliders (scallion pancakes stuffed with pork belly) and the beef dumplings. First, the miso soup comes in two different sizes - a cup and a bowl. The cup was perfect for me and probably the more standard size if you're having a hard time deciding on sizing (just fyi). Next, the Pancake Sliders were phenomenal - the pork belly was juicy and tender, and complimented the scallion pancake nicely. The fried beef dumplings were little soggy by the time I got home, but the flavor was great. (Maybe order steamed for to-go) Overall, great restaurant and look forward to coming back for brunch!
Perfect place for a hot bowl of soup on a cold day. The portions are large and the pork and beef meat are tender fatty and juicy. We personally loved the steamed beef dumplings.

1 = poor : 5 = great Cleanliness - 1 Service - 2 Food - 1 Cleanliness - had to ask to have bar wiped down because it wasn't clean. Sent dishes (plate and spoon), because they weren't clean. Bathrooms weren't kept. Appetizers: Egg drop soup - flavorless Egg roll - highlight of meal Chili wonton - meh; boring Entree: Salmon and brown rice. It's like they forgot it. I thought it was fried initially. I had one bite (literally) and told them this isn't for me. Asked for my bill. Wasted calories and Friday evening here. One of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've had in recent memory. read more
This place has been on my list and it was pretty good! They have their own parking lot, but there is street parking available. Not too noisy, so you can have a conversation inside. We went when they first opened for dinner so the wait was not long at all. We ordered: Cucumber spicy noodles - these were really yummy! The noodles had a nice bite to it and the flavor was nice and wasn't spicy for me. The cucumbers added a nice freshness to the dish. Beef Noodle Soup - I thought this was good, my Taiwanese friend thought it was bland and not that great. It's a pretty simple broth for me but I don't eat beef noodle soup often enough to compare it to others. Lu Rou Fan - same with this dish, I don't typically eat Lu Rou Fam so I don't feel like I can make the best opinion on it. My friend really liked it though and said it wasn't too salty. read more

Yummy in our tummy's! This place is so good! My husband wanted dumplings and it was open late. Everything from the dumplings, soups, scallion pancake were super good. My favorite was these sushi nachos! Will definitely be back. Our server was a great and you can tell he really loved where he worked. read more

Ordered Uber eats and it was delicious, I had the cold cucumber noodles which was refreshing tasty and a tad bit spicy I also had the pork Jian jiou that i thoroughly enjoyed they paired it with a yuzu soy sauce and it was perfect. Would love to dine in next time I'm sure the experience would be even better. read more

Yea they used to be BYOB but recently got their license however their new selection is a good variety! Look, the atmosphere, being a part of the neighborhood and amazing service is what takes the cake over the amazing home made food. Like things a little fried? Get the pork pan fried dumplings! Heard the saying smells like trout get the F out? Not here! Everything is super fresh and trust the level of fish here just like Uchi. The fact that my too cool for me 13 year old eats this and won't eat anything else speaks volumes. I hope they never leave read more

It's combination of Chinese and Japanese food. Chinese food price is reasonable, but Japanese dishes are over priced. Chinese dishes are all creative, but not authentic. It missed a lot of spices from China. read more

Cool space, friendly staff, good eats. A relaxed everyday neighborhood spot whether solo or with friends. The space is clean, airy, and cheerful, and the menu is a mashup between some Taiwanese favorites and sushi creations... alongside plenty of drink options. We went on a Monday evening, it got quickly busy, the Happy Hour has a lot of options! We tried many things and the portions are very very reasonable as well as the pricing compared to other places. Wagyu Beef pot and steamed dumplings were phenomenal. I didn't have but two others tried the pork belly pancakes and loved them. Our server, Tina was amazing, attentive and polite, smart and helpful. The owner is also a such a kind lady that likes to visit the tables with food delivery and check up on the guests. The setting is nice with artwork and the place has a parking at the back making it quite convenient. Will definitely go back and recommend this place. My only suggestion would be the music choice, if it would be different than pop music. read more
We checked out this place in Austin, TX because you can never go wrong with sushi AND they had tons of vegan options! We started off with their delicious miso soup, which I practically inhaled. Then we moved on to our entrées. We first ordered the Avocado & Cucumber Roll which you can never go wrong with. I asked for extra wasabi because I'm a masochist . Then we got the vegan fried egg plant, which was to die for! Crispy, flavorful, & fried to perfection. I think we also ordered the vegan steamed dumplings (potstickers), but forgot to take a picture because they just looked to dang good! We ordered the Vegan Zha Jiang Mian, which is miso bean curd, shiitake, cilantro, cucumber, carrots, green bell pepper. I think that was probably my favorite! Lastly, we ordered this lovely dish which we can't think of the name now or find on the menu. As you can see, we all began eating it before we realized we took a picture of it... But whatever it was, it was BOMB! If you're ever in Austin & craving sushi, definitely check this place out!! read more

This place shouldn't be kept a secret! One of the best place I've eaten in a really long time. The owner herself makes and comes up with the recipes. Wow. I. Have driven by this spot but never tried it. the reviews for this Asian Fusion restaurant were great. Photos and extensiveness of the menu were amazing. What an excellent experience! Max the server was smart, cool and knowledgeable of the menu. The preparations were varied and incredibly prepared. Really fresh ingredients. Great flavor. Good value. We had Mata Hari, Vegan eggplant, spicy chili wontons, scallion pancakes,. There were so many other dishes that we wanted to try but got too full. This was an excellent meal. Well, the pan fried dumplings were really good and had a nice crunch on the bottom and the filling (pork) was very tasty and the dipping sauce was really good. I would give the dumplings a 5 STAR. The beef noodle soup was just OK - the beef broth had little flavor and the beef shank also had very little flavor, disappointing:( 2 STARS on the soup. I would comeback to try the other options but skip the beef noodle soup in my opinion. read more

Wow. We went here completely on a whim after looking online for a place to eat for almost two hours and I'm beyond glad we did. It has a great chill vibe and was pretty empty when we went which was shocking considering how delicious all of the food was. I know it's basic but I'm a sucker for an egg roll and these were some of the crispiest I've ever had, I almost order four more. The miso soup, again can be basic but this had such strong miso flavor, in a good way; I feel like a lot of restaurants just give you broth with just a hint of miso and this made me so nostalgic. The three cup mushrooms with purple rice were amazing, all the flavors in the marinade went together so well, and the ginger flavor was great without being overpowering. The star of the show however was the Zha Jiang Mian, I mean woah. That pork had such a depth of flavor and the fresh garlic they recommended just put it over the top, add to that all of the crisp fresh veggies and I know the dish I'll be getting when we come back. This is our go-to when we want some delicious Asian takeout food. Our favorite vegan lo mein - that tastes as good as any lo mein in town. We also get the vegan egg rolls We've had their sushi (love the Texas Summer roll) & three cup mushroom with purple rice & it's all amazing. Plus the owners are so sweet. You can order online for pick-up, but we usually call & only have had about 15-30 minute wait each time. There's parking behind, as well! read more

A hidden gem located in the near Eastside of downtown. The restaurant is quaint, staff is super friendly, atmosphere is awesome and parking behind the restaurant - it all comes together quite nicely. They offer both Chinese and Japanese/Sushi menus. Everything we ordered here was simply delicious. I highly recommend the dumplings in chili sauce, we could have had two orders, that's how good it is. We then shared the Beef Clay Pot with local Wagyu Beef, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and onions - we made sure to scrape out all the gravy, it was so good. We also had their special of the day, BBQ Pork Belly over steamed white rice and steamed baby boy choy, they seriously need to put this on the regular menu. We found this establishment surprisingly easy to get a table without a reservation and we'll definitely be coming back very soon. read more

My sweet friend from Kyiv came to see me and I wanted him to see the best of Austin. I have never been to Sweet Chive and we had a little time before an event so we stepped in for a bite. Y'all! This place is amazing! Andriy had Zha Jiang Mian which was so delicious and I had Pork Jian Jiou. Gosh the restaurant was clean and had nice seating areas. The waitress was courteous and explained some of the menu items to us that we didn't know much about. Love this great little place. Wonderful experience. A must try when visiting East Austin. read more

Last night, my husband and I decided to try Sweet Chive, since it's only about 8 minutes from our place in Riverside. What an excellent decision we made! We ordered four dishes: the Spicy Chili Wonton (special), Bon Bon Chicken (cold appetizer), the Scallion Pancake, and the Zha Jiang Mian (noodle dish). Every dish was delightful, but the chili wontons definitely took the prize for best dish of the night. The chili wontons were served in a chili oil/ dumpling sauce broth combo and were boiled (not crispy). They were clearly fresh and handmade, and the stuffing was incredibly flavorful (great notes of celery!). And the SAUCE. Y'all. I cannot fully explain how amazing the sauce on these guys is. The waitress explained that the sauce is essentially a mix of their chili oil and their dumpling sauce, and it was so incredible that we ordered a side of rice so we could just continue eating the sauce that was left in the bowl. Some of the best bites of food I've had in months. Highly recommend. The bon bon chicken was a cold appetizer and had a bit of a vinegar and chili oil flavor to it. It was refreshing and lovely and a great summer evening dish. The chicken was well cooked and tender, and the mushrooms had an excellent chew to them. Definitely recommend if you're a fan of cold dishes. The scallion pancake was delicious! Not your typical incredibly greasy scallion pancake. This one was more bready and less flaky. Not everyone's favorite, but it's definitely my preference. My husband tends to prefer the ultra flaky, greasy style of scallion pancake, so this wasn't his favorite. But it was great in my book. Served with a vinegar, soy dipping sauce. Very good! The Zha Jiang Mian was HUGE. A noodle dish with ground pork, raw veggies (carrot, cucumber, bell pepper, etc), and some cilantro. You toss it all together before eating, and the pork becomes a bit of a sauce as it has plenty of fat and cooking liquid with it. It's somewhat like a meat sauce, if I had to explain it to somebody who's never had it, but I'm not sure if that's an accurate classification. The dish has a very unique flavor profile--not your "typical" Chinese noodles that you get at any old spot. Highly recommend. It was filling, fresh, and delicious. The noodles were soft and tasty, and the pork was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Fresh veggies added great crunch and freshness to cut through the rich pork! The folks working there were incredibly kind and attentive, and the food came out quickly. Restaurant was also immaculately clean! Highly recommend stopping in or making a to-go order. Their ingredients are fresh, their food is delicious, and their service is top tier. :) We look forward to trying more dishes from them in the future! read more
I was not impressed by this place. The aesthetic of the place is cute on both the outside and the inside, but the food was very okay. The vegan fried eggplant was decent, but pretty salty. The vegan jia zhang mian only had flavor in the tofu and very little in the actual noodles. I really just wanted to pour some soy sauce into it to give it some more life. read more
This is a high concept modern take on Taiwanese cuisine with 100% authentic flavors. The owners were very down to earth and detail orientated. Service was professional. Every bite I took was flavorful and the quality of their dishes are phenomenal. Everything was very clean. Pricy and small portion sizes for some dishes but quality overshadows. Eating here was truly an experience with every bite exploding with flavors I love. read more

I was so happy to check out this place with a friend who was raving about it, especially after I learned that it's locally owned. While I thought the service and interior were wonderful, the dishes felt awfully overpriced. I particularly enjoyed the pork jian jiou dumplings, but the lo mein I ordered wasn't that flavorful nor filling. I tried a bite of my friend's lu rou fan and wished I had ordered that instead. I'd be down to try some of the sushi offerings on their menu next time! read more
