Definitely think the matcha green tea donut stood out in comparison based on was ordered although I liked it all! Plus the oolong tea was nice with the osmanthus undertones which add a sweet floral taste. Spacious bakery with customers working on their laptop as well as people eating together. The Asian-inspired pastries at Sweet Cake are eye-catching with interesting flavor combinations.
One of the few bakeries in the area that had such an abundance of black sesame desserts! I was in heaven. I tried the black sesame earl gray cake and it was so soft and moist I got it 2 days in a row. I wish I could have tried the other desserts but did not get the chance to - will definitely make sure to visit again to try the other options! Inside has adequate seating options and kept very clean.
Love getting the cakes here as they're not too sweet. I usually opt for the strawberry matcha cake or the taro cake. A full sized cake is like $42. The decorations are super cute, and the flavor is light. The matcha cake doesn't taste much like matcha at all, though, but I couldn't care less. The strawberry part is light and slightly tart. Highly recommended for an Asian taste palette!
I definitely like supporting a local business when possible. It's even better when the product and quality is good! The small bakery had some nice surprises. The space is ample with enough seating and nicely decorated as well. The pastries that they have look very modern, but have a traditional essence to them as in Asian bakery... They're still very delicious and not too sweet. My favorite thing that I got was the ube puff. It was flaky like a croissant with a fluffy, creamy filling that was just the right amount of sweet for me. The staff was very friendly and quick on their toes to make sure to get everyone's orders just right and out in time. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
I heard about this place because of a special promotion they were running for their 3rd anniversary. If you spent a certain amount, you could get a raffle ticket and potentially win a Labubu, and the first 5 who do, are able to get a guaranteed one! I figure, I love sweets, and I don't HAVE a labubu yet, so why not right? :3 I came by and got 3 slices of cake (the Strawberry Sweetheart, Double Layer Chocolate Cake, and the Summer Lemon Pistachio) as well as two pastries (Strawberry Danish with Almond Cream and something just called the Grilled Cheese) and was able to play the raffle where I won a free drink, choosing the Lychee Yakult. Aesthetically speaking the cakes are very pretty and the packaging holds up which is nice for when you have to commute back home with them ( I live near Coney Island for reference). Strawberry Sweetheart: I think the balance of strawberry cream to the cake was handled well. A bit more strawberry forward in terms of strawberry than a strawberry shortcake with a hint of rose to it I believe, I detected some floral notes to it, which were understated but present and delightful. ------------------------------------ Double Layer Chocolate Cake: I will say, when something says Double Layer Chocolate Cake, I'm kindddd of expecting it to be a burst of chocolate flavor. This isn't too heavy handed, which I know some people would appreciate, but I'd love for them to pile on the chocolate flavor! ------------------------------------ Summer Lemon and Pistachio: I think the lemon flavor compliments it well, just wish the pistachio was also a bit stronger, it is Summer Lemon and Pistachio after all! The flavor combination is a good pairing though, tart+ citrus with the earthy nuttyiness of pistachio. ------------------------------------ Grilled Cheese: Okay, when I asked about this, they couldn't REALLY tell me more about it which I thought was funny lol. Tastewise, it kind of tastes like a gooier egg tart, one which the center isn't as baked through. It tastes good! And the pastry shell, I will say is very crispy which is a great plus but it didn't really come off as Grilled Cheese haha. ------------------------------------ Strawberry Danish with Almond Cream: Just a well executed strawberry with pastry cream danish. The cream has good flavor and pairs well with the strawberries, and they do their pastry shells VERY well here I've noticed. They're super crispy and not a hint of sogginess to it, even when holding all that cream inside. ------------------------------------ Lychee Yakult- perfect as is. It tastes a bit like yakult+ lychee boba which is great, well balanced and you can taste both flavors which lend to the overall drink. ------------------------------------ The cherry on top was the free Labubu with my purchase ( I ended up getting Loyalty) but overall, the baked goods they make here are quite good. It's a little off the main shopping street in Flushing but not too far. These cakes are basically made for the quintessential Asian who often doesn't like their desserts too sweet. I will say, I'm kind of the antithesis to most Asians though, I have a huge sweet tooth and I would love to see a bit more Western flavor profiles mixed into some of these cakes, whether that's denser cake, sweeter creams, or more out there combinations on top of the pastries they have now!
I recently visited @sweetcakenewyork, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish and prices are reasonable. I tried the unique Taro Mochi Croissant and it was outstanding. The croissant had a perfect balance of flavors and a flaky, buttery texture that melted in my mouth. Everything tasted fresh and clearly made with care. Matcha Cranberry attracted my attention so I decided to get it. It was fabulous. Everything was delicious and it is hard to pick just one. I love that they have my fave flavors, Matcha, Taro and Ube. This place is a hidden gem (or well-loved local favorite), and I'll absolutely be returning. This is a cute café/bakery on Northern Blvd. right off of Main Street. They have a few tables inside for those who want to dine in. I thought the desserts were a little on the pricey side and I saw one dessert with a price point of $11.99...yikers. Considering, I can get a slice of cake nearby for around $8, it may not be the best value here. I found the service was friendly. Their selection of desserts seemed limited but perhaps it was because of the time of day which I went - around 4:30p. They also didn't have a menu posted up anywhere where I could study their drinks to decide what I wanted. I had to decide the minute I got to the register because that was the only place where they had a menu! The double layer chocolate cream cake was good but the purple cream puff was not my favorite....tasted a bit like matcha cream which is usually a bit too chalky for my liking. One thing I did love was the clear/transparent cake boxes they had for people who bought whole cakes....so nice to be able to see the cute designs of the cakes!
Everything is as pretty in person as it appears online! The Taro Vanilla cake nails the "sweet but not too sweet" flavor. Very natural, I would say, and tasty. It is nearly $10, but as I was eating it, it did feel larger than I had anticipated, so I wouldn't mind getting it again or trying another flavor. The Hot White Peach Oolong Tea is a light drink as well. I wish it stays warmer for longer though. The ice definitely cools it all down, but I'm not sure if that's my ordering mistake. The cafe ambience is perfect for a study session or friend catch-up during my Sunday evening visit. The service isn't the most hospitable during my time and the main, if not the only, reason I'm not rating 5 stars.
Sweet cake is a very clean and nice cafe. They have big clean tables and also tons of outlets. The girl who helped me was super nice and attentive. She did not rush me and let me explore. It wasn't busy at all, but she was very welcoming. Prices are decent and desserts are delicious. I took off one star because the cake fell apart in transport. The cake is mostly soft cream so it's very easy to fall apart. I loved the way they boxed the cake. Maybe next time I get different cake that's not as delicate. The cake was very good. Their desserts are beautiful and tasty. Not very sweet which I prefer. The creampuff wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The filling tasted more like taro filling than ube. The shell was crunchy but tasteless. Next time I'll probably try their other cakes.
I stopped by here on a Saturday evening at around 7 pm and I was absolutely charmed by the place! It was very spacious and quiet, with a few people studying and some chatting. I was greeted by a sweet lady behind the counter and took a look at all the cakes and pastries, which were all very aesthetic and had unique flavors! I bought a sesame basque burnt cheesecake ($~11) and a strawberry yakult cheesecake (~$11). Since I bought two cakes, I was able to get a free smoothie, so I ordered the mango yakult smoothie. I took these all to-go and they provided the cutest bag, which both cakes packaged individually and securely. I tried both cakes when I got home, and really enjoyed the flavors of both! I liked the sesame cream and the mochi bites on the sesame basque cheesecake. The strawberry of the strawberry yakult cheesecake was fresh, and the cake itself was very light, not too sweet. The mango yakult smoothie was also delicious, though it was more of a slush than a smoothie since it was pretty icy. I saw they had an ube cream puff but it was sold out when i was there, so I plan on come back another time to try it! Plus, it seems like a sweet study spot with lots of space and outlets.
Sweet Cake is a new bakery in Flushing that carries a variety of boba/drinks, and pastries. A solid 3/5, and here are my reasons why. Highlights: - Lots of seating inside - Cream puffs were fresh and tasty - Passionfruit cake had the right tartness Feedback: - The cheesecakes don't taste like typical cheesecakes. It felt more like a sponge cake with a layer of custard on top? If you're looking for a lighter option, then maybe that works for you. But it's not the usual flavor or dense-ness you would expect from a cheesecake. - Blueberry Cake: The topping tasted funny to me, and lacked sweetness. - Peach Yakult with Popping Boba: I wish I took a photo, but the drink tasted like all artificial flavor :( There was a layer of something that looked like pulp on top, but I later think it was just powder. After reading someone's feedback about this place soliciting 5-star reviews, I feel a little more wary about coming back. read more

In the middle of Northern Blvd, there is quaint Asian bakery. This new cake shop opened up and the interior is so pretty and cute. Upon entering you, are greeted by three staff members. Here, there are various cakes that include matcha , Oreo, blueberry, and Black Forest. I had the pleasure of trying a small cake that was in clear packaging. I must say, the cake was so light and fluffy with a subtle taste of cream. In addition to this I also, tried their beverage passion fruit black tea. They have options where you can customize it with the amount of sugar you want. I chose 30% and it was refreshing. Will come back again! Good luck to the owner and his/her venture. read more
Stopped by with a few friends to check it out and we had a good experience. Service was fast and the drinks/cake were tasty. It's a little out of the way from Main Street but in a convenient location if you're passing by northern boulevard. There's quite a bit of space and many tables inside and a bathroom in the back, so would be a great spot to get some work done when it's not busy in the cafe. read more
Wow. We didn't even plan to come here. Decided to walk in to kill time while dinner-hunger sets in. Can't tell you with certainty what we had but it consisted of 2 pastries: a mango puff cream one and a plain one. Both were excellent. We also ordered milk tea (30% sugar) which complimented the pastries beautifully. Staff was helpful, courteous and even offered us some freebies. holy we studied here for so long this place is fire like next time we make a flushing excursion we are GOING here again. they gave us a lot of treats i appreciated them. it was legit empty when we first came. i think we were probably their first customers of the day. we wanted to go to flushing for so long and then we were like ohhh we are students we can't NOT study so we did. we went to this cafe that i saw on instagram that had like cool cakes and then we ordered one and sat down and studied. they have free wifi which is awesome because i legit forgot how disabling it is when you don't have wifi. AND there were chargers. omg perfect studying spot. but we studied for a few hours before we headed to the cat cafe at tangram mall. then afterwards we had this famous chicken place. and then we headed BACK here because the owner was so nice. wow! we ordered drinks for the second time and it was yum and it was pretty crowded with people studying. i love this place honestly. not that loud and pretty good atmosphere to study. but anyways we found a seat and studied some more until i had to go back for dinner. awesome dateeeee. 5 stars! read more

Earl gray black sesame cake did not taste like earl gray or black sesame. 1/5 Black sesame cream puff with boba had perfectly cooked boba & a light black sesame flavor. 4/5 It was mostly empty when we went on a weekday afternoon. Service was quick & courteous. I was expecting stronger flavors and the cake was quite disappointing. Bakery is nicely decorated. Glad we tried it but not a place I would return to. read more

This is the perfect spot for some drinks or desserts in Flushing! My friends and I shared a variety of drinks and cakes, and my favorites were the ube and pistachio cakes. The cakes were dense, but moist. The frosting was light and creamy. They're subtly sweet so perfect for those who don't like super sweet desserts! We came on a weekend afternoon and there were a couple of tables available. The staff were all really nice and they even gave me a free cheesecake sample when they saw me waiting. The store is pretty quiet so perfect for studying too. read more

The place and packaging was cute, and the workers were nice. The cakes themselves are expensive, I paid $23 for two cakes. The black sesame cake was true to its name but the flavor doesn't work well with the cheesecake. I don't recall the name or flavor of the other cake, but it was pretty bland. read more

Visited Flushing with my aunts and found this little bakery. The owner is super nice and offered samples without us even asking. He went above and beyond, which made our visit a special one (: Everything we got was delicious (lychee milk green cheesecake, black sesame cake, cookies etc.) and the sweetness is just right -- Asian aunties approved lol. I'll definitely be back to try other goodies! read more
Saw this new place on TikTok and wanted to try it out. It was a very cute place to go with a couple of friends or even on a date. I got the mango cream puff, black sesame boba cream puff, and the peach yakult drink. Overall, thought it wasn't bad but wasn't crazy about it. Maybe we should've tried other things instead of two creams puffs though lol. But I thought my sesame boba one was pretty good. The drink was probably my favorite thing out of everything we got, but I got it at 70% sugar and it was still too sweet in my opinion, would recommend 50%. It might be because it's new but if you give them a 5 star review on Google you can get a free mini sponge cake! read more

Coincidentally happened to pass this place right after adding it to my list. Really nice and clean space inside. We went late night so it was relatively empty and service was quick. Starting with the bubble tea - standard bubble tea but nonetheless, great! We tried both the sesame boba cream puff and the matcha cream puff. Overall - they looked way better than they tasted. Maybe I hyped it up in my head based on photos I had seen but overall underwhelmed. Would go back for the bubble tea though read more

I got the mango cream puff & black sesame/red bean cake, and both were light & refreshing desserts after a hard night of eating in downtown Flushing. The cream puff had a perfect mango mousse - not too sweet or too heavy. The black sesame cake was also not very sweet and had a good black sesame flavor. I'd come back again to try their other desserts (and have another mango cream puff). read more

The boba cream puff was a hype. It is a black sesame cream puff topped with boba. Honestly, the cream puff itself is decent with a thin and crispy layer of crunch on the top and flavor is not too sweet with a decent black sesame flavor. You'd like it if you like the boba chewy texture although I don't prefer it. The green tea cheesecake and ube cheesecake is surprisingly super light with a sponge cake layer and the cheesecake layer is light in flavor as well but got very light cheese flavor. I would've believed them if it was tofu cheesecake in that cheesecake layer. Flavors are still good and light but definitely a super light dessert. One of the lightest one for me. Servers were nice and courtageous. Sat there for a long time and they did not give looks, but store was also pretty empty at the time. Store is a medium decent size with open space, and got windows seating. Very simple interiors. Overall, they're decent but I feel like for that price point it's not worth it. satisfy those sweets cravings with beautiful desserts from sweet cake! hidden gem cafe in flushing. i was enamored by the cute & aesthetic asian-style desserts. we got a whole entire selection to share and try, there were a lot of us there so don't judge our spread lol. all the cakes we tried were light and fluffy, and there wasn't anything that was too sweet (which is perfect for my grandma taste buds) my favorites were the mango cream puff, passion cheesecake, and the black sesame burnt basque cheesecake. i was already in love with how beautiful the mango cream puff was, and i am a REALLY big fan of how soft the exterior was! i feel like cream puffs are usually pretty tough to crack from the outside, so i loved the spin on this one. the light rose & passionfruit flavor combo in the passion cheesecake wasn't too overpowering and was overall just really delicious!! and the intense black sesame flavor in the burnt basque cheesecake was so enticing, i kept going back for more. read more

The service here is really good. They were quick and efficient, always giving stuff. As for the dessert, drinks were pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the tiramisu, and the boba cream puff. Their black sesame cake is pretty good though. Pretty chill location. 4.0/5.0 star experience read more
Cute little bakery with ample seating on Northern. Came on a Sunday afternoon to pick up a cake without preordering for a birthday. I saw some recent ig posts raving about their line of black sesame pastries. But we were a little taken aback when we saw the prices. Initially we wanted the black sesame cheesecake but saw the $60 sign, we had second thoughts. inflation is REAL but we couldn't justify the price for something we haven't tried yet. We decided to just get individual slices instead and were glad because it was a bit underwhelming. Cakes had good texture but the flavor could be more enhanced in both black sesame and ube. The service however was very welcoming and they offered free samples of some kinda carmel pastry before we left. Would recommend if you wanna try unique asian flavored pastries. I'd prob come back to try the basque black sesame cheesecake or the cream puffs based on the other reviews if I'm ever in the area again. read more

I absolutely loved the desserts here- they're all Asian influenced and are not too sweet (contrary to their name) !! The worker also offered us free pudding bc it was almost closing time and my god they were delicious !! The boba sesame puff had good flavor but the cream was a little hard. Some desserts I felt like were reasonably priced, others were a lil more expensive. They have a good amount of seating and lots of space to wait inside. read more

Tried two cakes from this place and not a big fan. The Oreo cheesecake was too wet on the bottom. They are very expensive cakes too. Don't think we will buy from them again. read more

Stopped by for dessert the other day. Everything was so delicious. I mean just look at the cream puff with fresh boba thrown on top of there... I was in awe! It tasted amazing too. I love how every item at this place isn't too sweet and each dessert has such a nice flavor. We had to try their bubble teas too and my favorite was the brown sugar milk tea. You just can't go wrong with it. My usual order is a passion fruit green tea and that was also great here! The boba cream puff was by far my favorite dessert at this place! Go stop by for some amazing Taiwanese desserts and bubble tea. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Fan and staff for your exceptional hospitality and service. I think we got the Lychee green tea cake and sesame tiramisu and wow, it tastes amazing!! It's so flavorful without it being too sweet! We also got a cup of Jasmine milk tea and it really reminds me of the ones I had in Taiwan pretty authentic!! I also want to point out that the owner and staff are all super friendly and the cafe itself looks really clean. I can definitely see myself coming back here to sit down and get some work done while enjoying a nice cup of tea with some delicious desserts! read more

Must try new Taiwanese high quality cake shop in Flushing. Great selection of desserts. Cake tastes so yummy and not too sweet. My favorite is the Bubble Tea Sesame Cream Puff. All the tea drinks are so good. Very clean spacious place with comfortable ambiance. Staff are very kind. Need to go try more cakes and bubble teas. read more
