You will love the food and the prices! You just never know what attitude you will get. The rolls fall apart often also.

I and two of my roommates go here on almost a weekly basis(and sometimes two or three times a week) and have for over two months so we have a pretty well-rounded opinion of the place for the recent past. Always during happy hour, 2:00-4:00 seven days a week, $1.50 a plate. I've seen probably 85% of the sushi on the menu on the belt during this time, though I have gone when maybe six different rolls were on the belt so you just have to go at the right time. The sushi is decent quality, and you get plenty for the price. It's not gourmet but for a cheap late-lunch/early-dinner, it's not bad. The layout is a tad crowded but I don't mind it. It's the only sushi on the West end of town where I work The sushi belt has little variety and it tastes like packaged sushi you could get at the grocery store. Go in with low expectations when you just need something different from the other restaurants on W 11th. Don't expect high quality fish. For instance, the tuna in the tuna rolls is all mushy instead of nice cuts of fish. Perhaps if you don't compare it to good sushi, you might enjoy it. :) read more

We came here for my daughter's birthday this year. We came expecting the sushi to be like AFC sushi. It was bland. Sushi Island is scary. At first I thought it would be decent and a good place for cheaper sushi. Service is lacking. The girls just gossiped at the register. I guess they didn't want any tips anyway. I ordered some sashimi and I cannot believe it was served to me. It was a variety item and I really got the "variety." I had some warm salmon, frozen yellowtail, and fishy tasting/smelling tuna. So, a co-worker of mine took her husband out for birthday lunch at Sushi Island. She said the sushi was so-so but the service was poor. There is a big banner outside the store that says "buy 5 plates and get the 6th free". So, they grabbed 5 plates and then grabbed their free 6th plate. When it came time to pay the bill the hostess said that the 5/6 deal is only good if you also buy miso and a soda. The big banner doesn't say miso and soda which put my friend in a very awkward spot. She referred to the sign and the hostess insisted that she must buy miso and a soda to get the deal. She paid for all 6 plates. About 2 hours later I went and had a late lunch myself. The service is definitely slow. Sodas do not come with refills. The banner does say "buy 5 and get 6" but it does not say + miso and soda. So, I rate this 2 stars because of the service especially because of the banner outside. The sushi is better than buying from the supermarket but that's about it. read more

Walked in as the sign said please be waited to be seated waited about 10mins and still no service So my family and I sat down our self as we started to get our sushi the lady finally comes over with water that has been sitting out and didn't ask if we would like any thing other to drink. Then we noticed none of the old sushi was being removed from the island it kept going around and we saw that some of it needed to be replace and then the place smelt like fish which we thought it was okay since it's a sushi place but we realized it wasn't normal So it made us feel kinda sick after knowing we could possibly be eating old sushi. When I have the money, I'm rocking this place once or twice a week. the platter that's 32 dollars is great. I add the sunshine roll do it. Love mango. Lunchtime Happy Hour is the best! The conveyer belt sushi bar is a lot of fun and my wife and I have some all time favorites that we eat during the $1.50/ plate happy hour from 2-4 everyday. We really love the spicy tuna, salmon and asparagus rolls. When 2:00 rolls around the place fills and there's often a waiting line to get a spot along the conveyer belt of delicious sush, up but by 3 it starts to clear out. For dessert try the ice cream mochi, they usually at 3-6 flavors to choose from. read more

I love Sushi Island for quick, cheap sushi that is of a respectable quality. I've always had good fish here & if they don't have what you want on the belt, they will make it for you to order for the same price. The have some interesting stuff. One of my favorite things is ume and shiso & not many places have it, so I was excited that they would make it for me. Their seaweed salad is also quite good. Other belt sushi places I have been to were not as accommodating if it wasn't on the belt. It's great to be able to have the fun of a belt, but also order what you want if they don't have it on the belt. If you go when it's crowded, there are often more thing to choose from, obviously -- but I have also been there at off times and they still put fresh stuff out the whole time I was there. Depending on the waitresses working, the service for drinks can be a bit dodgy, but everyone is really nice and I have always gotten the 6th plate free - I do always order some kind of beverage, but I didn't know you had to to get the deal - as one reviewer mentioned. It's not the best sushi in town, by any means - but for what it is, it's great. A very nice addition to the sushi available in Eugene. Dependable fish at a good price. sushi island is decent restaurant for a sushi train kind of place. their prices are alright. i've had worse sushi trains. in the end you get ok quality for ok price. their calamari is delicious and coated with tasty breading. some of their roles are pretty good too. happy hour makes it a great regular prices are alright for those that don't have huge expectations. they have other stuff on the menu too although their speciliaty seems to be the sushi. read more

I've had much better sushi, but the happy hour prices are hard to beat. For me, sushi is one of those foods that as long as it doesn't make you gag, then it's good. I realize that's setting the bar awfully low, but I'm from the Midwest where sushi is lovingly referred to as bait, and earns that title. I would pick this place over grocery store sushi which is of the same quality. The service here is basic, just get your beverages and utensils then ask for the bill. I kinda like that. My husband and I come in for happy hour, split about 8-9 dishes, then pay and leave in about 15 minutes. We tip about 10% instead of the standard 20% since it's not really full service. There's usually a line at the door but it moves fast. You can opt to sit at a table and reach over the heads of other people to get to the sushi on the belt if you don't want to wait. I say give happy hour a try but don't expect a mind blowing sushi experience. Also, the sashimi is a little gaggy in that warm, raw fish kind of way. Stick to the rolls. read more

The time to come here is during happy hour. It gets filled quickly, so you may have to wait. However, you will get freshly made sushi for dirt cheap, so it really balances out in the end. During happy hour feel free to stuff your face with whatever is on the belt because everything is half price and you can watch it being made. The quality of the sushi isn't that great, but when you're paying as little as you are, it's worth it. My girlfriend and I have tried several sushi boat places around town and this is our favorite. The happy hour deals are great, but get there at 2 or you may have a long wait due to the popularity of their 2-4 special. We more often go for dinner when there isn't a rush, but we get more attention (service). Besides, they always have buy 5 items off the sushi boat and get the 6th free. I order the beef teriyaki with a few potstickers on the side and my girlfriend dines off the sushi boat. Horrible- they cheated me!!! I'm so mad about this, I placed an order for jalepeno poppers and they usually come with 2 they gave me only 1 and charged me $3.75 per plate, the other day we went it In came with 2 for that Little jalepeno. They change it up everytime you come in and they think we don't remember. On top of that it was so expensive and the service was not at all nice. I will never recommend anyone here, nor will I ever be back. I just moved here from Portland and the service and sushi places there are way better than this. I was just down the road from this location and hungry. Seeing it was 143 I decided I would go for happy hour (2-4) I arrived at 1:51 and waited 9 minutes (cant beat 1.75 a plate worth the wait!) I was asked if I wanted to order while sitting at the belt and told them I would just wait till 2 to grab. Anyways 2 hit and like usual i wait for others to grab because I'm like that and as soon as others are, I do the same. 17 minutes later I am full and good to go. I go up to the register and they ring me up. I see the price and say "well isn't it 1.75 a plate? That's not correct." The lady said "yes that's for when you eat from 2-4." I said "ok and??." *insert long pause with her just staring at me* I tell her how I had sat at 151 and waited, even saying I was waiting till 2! To the waitress!" Then she looks at me like I'm a crook and stealing from them and rings up the correct bill amount. I have been visiting SINCE this location opened! Never had I been given an attitude. First time that I did not tip them in all my years visiting. I dont go out to eat to be given an attitude or be judged like I'm some bum trying to scam them. Will visit someplace else. Only did all these years because it was so cheap during happy hour. Now a review of the food I never complained about because I've never after all these years had an issue with the food..but that same day, this all happened. I did not finish my salmon (not like me) it was raw warm and the mayo on it was warm as well and made me sick that night. My companion I was with at the same time complained about the sushi they had and felt like throwing up during service and they always have eaten at the very same location for all these years as well. My pepsi was room temp and had no carbonation. I NEVER once complained because I figured it was a bad day for them. But after the whole ordeal I'm just done visiting. My wife and I hit up Sushi Island regularly for their Happy Hour Special from 2-4pm. Within 20 minutes - We can sit at the belt, chow down on 5 plates each while sipping VERY hot tea, drop $20 total ($15 for the meal, plus $5 for a tip), and we're out! I love how quick it is, because getting "held hostage" in a restaurant is absolute torture for me. You know what I mean: Sitting there with a full stomach & a list of errands to run, and waiting for the check FOREVER as server after server passes you by. We usually we make it a point to get there right at 2pm, so we can sit right away - The belt fills up with people quite quickly. Of course, we have our favorite server who remembers us and greets us warmly, but all of the servers are great. The reason why Sushi Island gets 4 stars instead of 5: There are some items that I've taken from the belt that were suppsed to be hot & weren't. That can be disappointing. Also, I've grabbed some of the cold sushi rolls & found them to be somewhat old; with the rice at the bottom of the roll soaking up the sauce as it marinates. These older rolls don't taste that great because all of the individual flavors that makes up the roll mix together, creating a taste that is not as pleasant. This does not happen often, but is worth mentioning. Before Sushi Island, we would go to Sushi Station in the downtown area - which I would rate a little bit above Sushi Island, but due to convenience, usually we will choose Sushi Island. Bottom line - It's a great place to eat, and in the words of Bob Barker, "The price is right"! read more

I ordered a chicken Teriyaki bento box yesterday and mixed tempura, also dragon roll. My husband picked it up and i was so disappointed. They had crammed the California Rolls in one corner of the bento box it was one big blob instead 4 individual pieces. The tempura vegetables were hard to figure out what kind they were. 2 of them were just dough with nothing inside. I don't consider onion rings as a tempura vegetable. I can buy better onion rings from a fast food restaurant. The salad was fairly sparse. I know they are inexpensive but if you have to throw away half of it it's not cheap. I work a few blocks away from Sushi Island and am always looking for a new lunch spot that isn't your usual fast food drive through. I saw the sign for Sushi Island one day driving by, but I was skeptical about the quality of the food for the price. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to sushi, so it wasn't until a coworker mentioned that she had eaten there a few days before and told me the food was pretty good that I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of the sushi. You're not going to get anything fancy, but they had several varieties of rolls and nigiri. The fish was fresh, firm, and tasty. They did seem to have an abundance of veggie and cooked ingredient rolls, which really aren't my thing; they looked good, but as I was there for fish I didn't try any. They did not seem to have every item from the menu on the belt; my guess is that what they prepare is dependent on what is available on any given day. Today was fairly salmon-centric, with the salmon being top quality. I would have preferred tuna nigiri, but tuna was only available in rolls, and not many at that. If you want a fancy restaurant, or huge selection, and are willing to spend the money then try Pure or Izumi. If you are looking for a fresh, healthy lunch spot make sure you try Sushi Island. We love sushi island. The staff there have always been really nice and attentive. They come over and ask if we want to order something anytime we pick up a menu. They seem to sense when we're finished and bring us our check. We went several times in the evening until we realized that Happy Hour is 7 days a week. Outside of Happy Hour, the belt seems to be lacking. There will be lots of CA rolls on one day and nothing else, a lot of Philly rolls another day and not much else. All the other extra things like calamari and edamame are not there outside of Happy Hour. During Happy Hour though- don't go right at 2 -it's super busy, but it does move through people pretty quickly. There's a huge variety of rolls and other things like the calamari (which is delicious) and spring rolls. I don't know a ton about sushi, but I thought Sushi Island was pretty good. A million times better than Duck Sushi or grocery store sushi, just as good as freshly made Market of Choice sushi.... read more

This is the best and cheapest place to eat if you're a vegan! You can get avocado/cucumber rolls, edamame, and cucumber salad for $1.75 each. The teriyaki sauce is soooo good! The food on the belt doesn't have much variety and tends to be cold and chewy. Their salmon nigiri have only half of what other places have in terms of actual fish and fall apart if you even try to dip them in so sauce. Their cucumber salad was soft and chewy, not fresh and crunchy. Their bathrooms and the hallway and curtain to them are dirty. Spend the extra money and go somewhere nicer, unless you like subpar sushi. read more
