    Veggie Oregon Roll (8pc)
    Allison P.

I took my friend here for her birthday and it was fantastic. Neither of us had been here before but the reviews looked great so we gave it a shot and I'm glad we did. I got the chicken bibimbap, my friend got the Philly roll and the spider roll, my other friend got the veggie roll, and our fourth person got the chicken teriyaki plate. The miso soup was smooth and didn't have an overwhelming flavor. The bibimbap was very flavorful and well-cooked. The rolls were all well-made and tasted great, and the chicken teriyaki had just the right amount of flavor. There's a parking lot next door that's paid as well as street parking. The restaurant is clean and our server was nice. The food came out quickly and was super hot. We will be back!

Found this great sushi spot while visiting OU during family weekend. They have have an assortment of Japanese food (Ramen, Udon, Yakisoba, etc...and of course Sushi) and some Korean food (Bibimbap, Sundubu jigae-spicy tofu soup). They have many sushi rolls, so you can't go wrong with what you order. Restaurant was very spacious, service was great and attentive. They have a large bar with TVs. Portions are large enough to share so bring your appetite! Happy Nom Nom!

Tasteful decor with nice lighting and gorgeous, live edge wood tables, excellent service, tasty food with nice presentation, and an extensive selection of drinks, including non-alcoholic options like lychee cremoso, iced and hot teas, beers, sakes, and more. Perfect for both dates and large groups. We really enjoyed almost everything we ordered: agedashi tofu, crispy rice with salmon (even a seafood hater loved this so much they had seconds), chicken karaage, lion king roll, shiro roll, spicy chicken fried rice (another favorite of our group), veggie yakisoba (tasty sauce, fresh veggies, and al dente noodles), beef rib-eye teriyaki. We also liked the chicken wings (tender and flavorful, although we prefer dry wings to saucy, and they were too spicy for the teens in our group), crazy monkey roll, beef yakiudon, and tonkotsu with cheese. The only item we didn't like was the mochi ice cream. The mochi part was a little crumbly instead of being smooth and slightly chewy. Shout out to Oliver for providing good recommendations, and being friendly and extremely patient with our chaotic group of 9.

Tried Makoto for the first time tonight! Cute restaurant with lots of seating. Great menu. Lots of roll options and other unique items. Prices were pretty standard for sushi. Definitely some expensive rolls but also some cheaper ones. Employees were really friendly. Enjoyed the food but not going to be my top sushi spot.

Chicken Katsu Bento to go...food quality was still great when I made it back to the hotel.

Late night takeout within the last hour before closing...sometimes this is not the best time to get takeout because the quality tends to suffer but not here. My bento box with chicken katsu was stellar! Quite possibly the best katsu I've ever had as a matter of fact! Perfectly cooked chicken, great pieces that were still moist and not over fried. Great tempura also. It all exceeded expectations. Will return when in town again!

Worth a stop if you are searching for sushi in the area but I prefer Pure Sushi but others in our party were happy here. I thought they were pretty skimpy on the tempura though. Also the makerel was very dry, and did not taste fresh.

Craving non-ramen Japanese food, I came across this place as I was looking for a place to eat. The reviews on Yelp! looked promising. Interestingly, this restaurant also offered Korean food, albeit a limited selection, in addition to Japanese. Other than that observation, the menu offerings looked good, from sushi to the bento box combos, donburi & udon/ramen. We ordered the katsu bento (which came with tempura & a california roll), unagi don and misoyaki salmon. The portions were large, we were all quite full afterwards. The deep fried items in the bento box were not greasy and very delicious, the unagi tasted very good too--as you would expect for grilled eel and my misoyaki salmon was good too--flavorful. I just wished the salmon was grilled--it seemed like it was poached and misoyaki sauce slathered over it. The salmon was also served with a large plateful of stir fried veggies, also thought to be unusual and just looked like a plate-filler to me. This was not bad, but it just didn't check the box for me. If you are visiting or a townie, it's worth checking out.

Me and my GF love sushi. so on this Oregon trip, of course we are getting sushi before driving back to CA. Food: We had Popcorn Lobster roll, Rainbow Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Salad & Chicken Karaage. I love the attention to detail. The salad actually got enough dressing for the entire plate. The sushi rolls were serve on this wooden platform. When the Chef handed us the rolls, it gave us an appetizing visual impact. Service: Our server was friendly and quick. From leading to our seat, taking our order, providing us with water and rest of the service. Good Experience! Pricing: We are Californians, so the fact there is no sales tax on our bill is a big Thumb UP. We think the pricing is adequate for what this restaurant offered. Overall, we have decent experience and if we ever visit Eugene again. We will be back!

Service was excellent! Got there right when it opened and there was no one inside. Order was ready in 10 mins. Food was just okay but I think that was on me for ordering the miso ramen. I should have gotten the soy sauce based ramen instead as this had no additional flavor than the regular miso soup. My bad. There was a $2 to go charge which I thought was annoying since most don't do that, but I guess that's to pay for the to go supplies?!

I think that's our rainbow apparently not the roll

Thank you chef & staff for a wonderful birthday dinner experience. I'll definitely try the rest of the menu when next time comes. I hope you hold onto the origami heart $1 I folded. I blessed it for you money attracts money helps to keep it in the restaurant or in your pocket on you. Princess

We were looking for food to eat before playing a show not far from this restaurant. Instead of the usual American food affair, we chose to go to Makoto. The menu offered a wide variety of food from sushi, to bento boxes, two Japanese noodles, and even some Korean. I chose to get the tonkotsu ramen and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was very on point and was refreshing for our trip. The ramen was also very delicious I'll be it was a little expensive for what you got. The pork belly inside was really delicious and the egg is always an awesome touch. The service was really awesome. Our server was very kind and attentive to our needs, taking care of 5 people. The environment is very warm and cozy and definitely is inviting to want to enter and stay. I definitely would recommend checking this place out when in Eugene.

Cowboy roll- special request for SPICY! So good!

Second time having Makoto today, and just as good as the first! I don't typically like raw fish. Yes I know. But I've had bad raw fish sushi before, and just avoid it now. Went with some friends the first time and tried a bunch of rolls and appetizers. Every roll we got had raw fish in it, and every roll was fantastic. It all tasted fresh, and was carefully put together. There were no sloppy rolls, and presentation was really nice. I've been looking forward to going back. We went again today and tried two new rolls, and our favorite from last time. Same thing- everything was fresh, tasted amazing, and looked delicious. We wanted to try the cowboy roll but wanted it a little spicy. It was slow, so we asked if they could do that just expecting some of the spicy mayo or spicy sauce from the crazy monkey to be put on the side. Instead, the chef made adjustments to the sauce and the crab, making both spicy with habaneros and Thai peppers. The flavor was so good, and then the spice hit you. It was HOT! I love heat, but this thing had me crying involuntarily. If you can't find food spicy enough in town, Makoto can deliver the rush you're looking for. It was probably one of the best rolls I've ever had. So far, we haven't had a bad thing here. The monkey brain appetizer and calamari are delicious, and the Cowboy, Crazy Monkey, and Yummy Crunch rolls are three of the favorites we had. It is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. Definitely recommend it for your sushi cravings!

    Salmon and Sea Breem nigiri
    Jon R.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in Eugene! My wife and I have been eating here for years. She loves their bimibop and I've always been happy with their sushi. Their salmon is always fresh, the escolar is so good and recently I tried the sea breem. Holy wow that was so good covered in lemon juice and a habanero salt. Our favorite dish of all though is their Crispy Rice!! Deep fried sushi rice, topped with torch seared salmon, Mayo and an unagi sauce. This is to die for!!! We eat here at least once every couple of months, they're always top notch with great service!!

Ordered the Ikura onigiri and the Japanese Sweet Potato and the Agadashi Tofu. (I asked for miso butter on the side for me because I have found it overwhelms the potato which is seasoned really wonderfully). The Ikura Onirigi was simple and excellent. My favorite wishes that they would create an regular Onirigi Happy Hour where they are on discount so that those of us who just want to have half a dozen of those and a few drinks can come in and experience our heart's delight. My drink of choice here is the Painkiller -- which is really well balanced and so delicious it's hard not to have a second. Wednesdays are when they have two dollars off the ginger-based drinks and I didn't try it this time but I am keen to the next time because they appear to crush the ginger in house and make their own ginger concoction magic. The bar was thankfully not crowded. As an introvert it was nice to be finishing up and heading out just as more people were coming in.

The place was packed, but thankfully we were seated quite quickly with a 5-10 minute wait. The interior is cozy and welcoming. It's dimly lit with mood lighting on the tables. It felt lively since the tables were packed. We started by ordering the sake and shoyu flights and some fries with wasabi mayo while we explored the rest of their menu. We received the flights quickly. Both flights had 3 flavors and were tasty and fun to try. Each flight comes with a menu describing the flavor profile and how the drinks were made. The flavors of each flight were distinct and matched their descriptions. The fries with wasabi mayo were pretty basic fries. They were well seasoned, had a nice crunch, and the mayo had a subtle wasabi flavor without it being spicy. For our next round we ordered the salmon misoyaki, butternut squash, tofu kushiyaki, and steak kushiyaki. Unfortunately, our server forgot to bring our butternut squash, but we ended up being full with the rest of the food we ordered and just took it off our order. The salmon misoyaki was delicious - perfectly cooked, tender, and well seasoned. The mustard greens on the side added a nice sourness. The tofu kushiyaki was tender and flavorful. The steak kushiyaki was well-seasoned, but more well done than I preferred and a little tough. Next, we ordered the spinach goma ae and umeboshi unigiri. The spinach goma ae was such a pleasant surprise! It's a chilled spinach dish with a tamari/black sesame sauce that was refreshing mid-meal. Really good umami flavor! The umeboshi onigiri had the expected sharp salty/sour flavor that balanced well with the ratio of rice. Ended up dipping the umeboshi onigiri in the goma ae sauce to get every last drop. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake and créme brûlée. The cheesecake was just okay. The menu said there was sake and black sesame flavors, but apart from some black sesame dust on the plate we couldn't taste the sake/sesame. The texture was thick and not super smooth. It was a pretty heavy dessert and not very sweet. The créme brûlée was yummy. The custard was smooth and the crunchy caramelized sugar on top was a nice contrast in texture and flavor. The service itself was slow. We were waiting around 15 minutes between orders. Given, it was a busy night. However, we felt a bit forgotten as our server did forget to bring one of our dishes, we had to ask for our dessert menus twice, and we were accidentally served two basque cheesecakes instead of our order of cheesecake and créme brûlée. The staff were friendly, and quickly brought out the correct desserts at the end. I'd recommend ordering more dishes at once so you can enjoy more food in between orders. Would definitely come back again to try the rest of their menu. We wanted to try the Japanese sweet potato but they had sold out that night. The oysters, sashimi, and udon also looked quite good!

I have seen a lot of reviews of Fuji that are not that flattering... but the reviews are often for sushi, which is not really what most hibachi restaurants excel at. If I want sushi, I will go to a sushi specialty restaurant. Normally the kitchen menus are good (Katsu, Tempura, etc)... but the Hibachi based TeppanYaki is usually the best. So today at Fuji, I ordered the Filet Mignon Hibachi lunch special. Great price... so I figured why not? Service was very good... I was told that the minimum seating at a hibachi table was two. So I could either wait and see if someone else came in wanting that... or I could order two servings. Lol... hungry but not that hungry. I was also told that hibachi for one is available at the normal table (minus the chefs flinging knives and shrimp around)! I was seated, brought water... and my waitress was great. Cheerful and helpful without being obtrusive. She gave me an option of either French Onion soup or Miso soup... I went with the Miso. She brought a bowl out shortly and apologized it took so long (it didn't), stating that since I was the first one in, and they just opened... nothing was ready yet. So everything was made fresh. Miso was good... small cubes of tofu, some nori... and you could taste the hondashi it was made with... delicious. A bit salty, but that does happen... She brought my plate out and it was very nice to look at, with a great aroma. Nice portion of filet, veggies and fried rice (I chose the rice, instead of noodles). Very tasty, beef was so tender and cooked perfectly medium rare like I asked for. Veggies were crisp and delicious... and the fried rice (yakimeshi) was wonderful! Highly recommended... and I will need to go back and try dinner at the hibachi tables, and also order from the kitchen menu. I feel bad, because I started eating, and forgot to take a picture... but here is the plate with 4 or 5 pieces of filet missing! ;)

Former ramenya chef here:…read more Ojisan may be the best ramen in Eugene. If you like firm noodles like me, they get it right. However, the ramen is TOO expensive! A bowl of ramen should NEVER be more than $10. Yes, I get it it's in Downtown and Eugene is hostile towards all businesses big & small so costs are high and violent drug addicts prowl the streets but still. Lower the price of a BOWL OF SHOYO from near $20. This Post Covid inflation needs to end. 4/5 for best Ramen in Eugene. 0/5 for the outrageous price point.

Overall, I would say that almost everything was really fantastic and we will definitely be back. We ordered three things to share. We got the shoyu ramen (added wakame), the mixed tempura, and the karaage chicken plate. The ramen came out first. The noodles were good, the egg is always a favorite, and we like the bamboo shoots. The broth was way too salty, though, which was the only thing that wasn't up to our standard for the evening and a bit disappointing since we were looking forward to the ramen. The tempura was really fun. We got the mixed plate and liked the variety of veggies that came with it. It also had two rather large shrimp so we were able to cut them and share. It came with two sauces: the traditional tentsuyu sauce and a spicy Mayo. Both were good. While waiting for the karaage, they came out to tell us that they accidentally started making a chicken katsu and gave it to us on the house while we waited for the dish we ordered. What a treat to be able to try another dish and it was delicious as well. It came with the traditional ketchup-based katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce. The chicken was very tender! We got the karaage plate last. It came with rice dusted with furikake, half a ajiamago egg, and a side of mac salad. The mac salad was pretty good overall. They added finely chopped green peppers to it, which aren't always my favorite, but it was still good. The karaage was also tender and came with teriyaki and spicy mayo. The interesting thing about this location is that they share the space with a bar. So there are two sets of staff and two tabs to pay at the end. Everyone was very attentive and helpful so it all worked out smoothly. We were able to get a beer from the bartender that came over to our table and took our order after we ordered our food. Seems like a setup that can work for them and hopefully they can help each other's businesses thrive.
