We came to Izumi with our son and daughter-in-law, who are regulars of this place. They have raved about it for a long time. I'm here to say that it is THAT good! The dinner special (3 rolls, rice, salad, miso soup) is about $27 from what I remember. Hubby and I shared that meal (with extra salad and miso), added another roll, and ordered garlic edamame. That was too much food, but neither of us complained. The rolls were great and I loved the salad dressing. They also have a drink-of-the-day. That night it was a mango martini-margarita kind of drink. Let me explain - salt on the rim of a martini-sized glass, a tequila-based mango margarita with no ice. It was stronger than a margarita, more like a martini, and cost about $5. We had a young child with us and that brought some interesting moments. The staff was so helpful, friendly, and polite in bringing extra chop sticks and napkins as we needed. I love restaurants when children can be children (within sweet limits) and the staff are accommodating. We will be back when we are in Springfield/Eugene again. read more

My husband and I took our daughter out for dinner at Izumi a couple of nights ago and we had a great experience! It was our second time going here and the food was delicious and fresh, the service was wonderful and our drinks were kept refilled. My husband loves the quality and variety of the nigiri here and my daughter and I particularly love the Red Bull roll that has steak on the top! On our first visit, we had cash ready for our server, who was excellent btw, but another server came by and grabbed her cash tip and put it in her pocket. We stopped in for a quick bite during happy hour and the place was packed! We got there 15 minutes after they opened so get there early or be prepared to wait. The service was quick and our glasses were never without water. Our food also came out quickly and was delicious. We were in and out and off to the concert we were going to with no delay. We really enjoy the food here and it's our go to 'pick up order' restaurant. Unfortunately, almost every time we do order it's missing something. I'm not sure what we can do without ripping open the bags and checking each container each time. Izumi's is my favorite sushi restaurant in Eugene. This is a sit down and order sushi spot rather than a conveyor belt place and the sushi is really good quality. Besides the sushi, there is a lot of kitchen items as well such as fried rice and udon, the bento box is a great deal and comes with a ton of food. I've come here with a large party multiple times and the manager has always been very accommodating. The restaurant has two different sides allowing for lots of people to dine at once. While this spot is more expensive compared to the other sushi restaurants in the area, the happy hour special makes it a lot more affordable. However be aware that happy hour is not available during holidays including valentines day or special events such as graduation. read more

First things first: Happy hour is where it's at. I was trying to decide between 3 and 4 stars (the consensus according to the aggregated Yelp rating) and decided to give 4 stars because of the HH pricing. 3 rolls plus an appetizer for $35 is hard to beat. Coming from CA, my wife and I have been trying various sushi restaurants looking for the best balance between price and quality. Izumi's happy hour is a pretty good contender. We got there at 5:45pm (HH is 4-6), but our waitress was great and let us know that we should pick what we wanted so that we could get our order in before HH ended. We ended up choosing the Albacore Delight, the Crunchy Monster, and the Go Duck rolls with Agedashi Tofu as our appetizer. Agedashi Tofu is one of our favorite appetizers, and Izumi's didn't disappoint. The potato starch batter was just crunchy enough, and the sauce soaked in perfectly. Personally, I wish they had added a little bit more of the fried fish flakes on top, but that's mostly a me thing. 5/5 The fish and rolls are fairly good, but nothing outrageous. I'm sure that the chefs had a rush at the end of HH, so I'm willing to let it slide. The tempura shrimp in the Go Duck roll wasn't as fresh as it could have been, so the batter wasn't crunchy. The avocado, tuna, and salmon on top were good, but couldn't compensate for the lackluster tempura. 3/5 The Crunchy Monster surprised us, since it was only 5 pieces. It might have been indicated on the menu, but I didn't notice. It lived up to its name, though. This roll was thick and the crunchy topping was great. I probably would have given this a 4/5 if there had been more than 5 pieces. 3.5/5 The Albacore Delight roll was the best of the three. I'm not a huge albacore fan, but the fish was fresh and the flavors melded together nicely. 4.5/5 Of the three rolls, this is the only one I'd order again. Although the first two rolls were fine, I'd rather try some of their other rolls. read more

Stopped by for lunch. They have a nice lunch menu with cheaper prices than dinner. I had the sushi plate- this was a large amount of food and felt reasonably priced at $23. The miso soup was warm and satisfying. The seaweed and cucumber salad was too sweet, both me and dining companion did not finish this. The tempura was fresh but heavy and bland- did not love the sauce that accompanied it. Finally the nigiri was ok but thickly cut pieces of fish, not special. We went this evening for a small celebration... just 3 of us. We were seated quickly where a gentleman server took our drink and appetizer order, but that's about where the good part ends. Granted, it was busy. Dinner was in full swing, but despite there being quite the bustle of servers, we were largely ignored. The original server was replaced by 2 separate ladies. Our table wasn't set properly, so when our food finally arrived, we had nothing to eat it with. The bowls for soy & ginger were missing. My husband can't use chopsticks, so we had to wait. We asked 3 different people 3 times for these things, but they never came. By this time our food was cold. Finally when someone did bring them, we asked for another round of drinks, which never came. Others around us were also getting upset. I eventually got up and politely asked the hostess, who actually got a really nasty attitude and told me that I'd "just have to wait." She was extremely rude and shouldn't be working in a customer service industry. We used to really enjoy Izumi, but the last time we went it wasn't a great experience either, and tonight was the final straw. Here are the reasons we won't go back: The place was noisy and cold, at the lunch hour. Couldn't get a waiter's attention to bring just a spoon. The menu, while extensive, was not particularly tasty. A lot of fried grease. And otherwise, nothing special. Other similar restaurants offer sides of soup and salad included, while this one required a choice of one. Buddy Gerry wanted lunch. I was looking for a great place, and amongst the stuff in my "tickler" file was Izumi. I've been there with beloved bride several times, and by myself when I needed Nabeyaki Udon or Tempura. Sounded just like the ticket. We showed up early, like 11:30 and were promptly seated, watered and menu-ed. They have a lunch section on the menu, and I will only concentrate on the combination trays. I had a 2 item combination of tempura shrimp / vegetable, and the udon. The tempura was two pieces of shrimp and 2 pieces of tempura (pumpkin and yam). The soup was a white miso with small cubes of tofu and a couple small pieces of seaweed. The salad was an iceberg lettuce with shredded red cabbage, sliced cherry tomatoes and a somewhat non-descript dressing. The udon, however, was a find in my opinion. Noodles with a chew, fish cake slice and assorted vegetables. The broth was very hot and very flavorful. Other than soup stains on my shirt, I have to plug the udon in my lunch. After lunch a walk was required and a great time was had by all. By all means, do go. read more

We have historically been frequent customers of Izumi but will not go back again after our experience with them this week. We had placed an order for takeout and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. My husband arrived at that time and waited an additional 25 minutes for the order to be ready. He drove the fifteen minutes home and realized they had taken the order wrong and six rolls were incorrect. He called and let the hostess know he was bringing the order back and asked that they make the correct rolls. She agreed. She then called him back a few minutes later to tell him that the chef was refusing to make the correct rolls (6 California rolls, not complicated). My husband continued to Izumi and spoke with the manager, who offered only the same explanation, that the chef was refusing to make the correct rolls. We were refunded what we had paid for the six rolls but not the few other items we had ordered. No compensation or apology was offered. We have never experienced such terrible customer service and will be finding somewhere else to get our sushi. read more
