Veggie (3Pcs)

It's a conveyor belt Sushi place that is not super busy during lunch hour on a weekday, part of the tables/belt were not even available/operational. Service was kind of non existent (had to ask for water), and the vibe was widescreen TVs. Let's talk food. This was a mixed bag. On the bright side, they have the best veggie roll I've ever been served at any sushi place. They put a lot of effort into this thing, really above and beyond in terms of what it includes. The wasabi was decent and the ginger was properly gingery without that fake pink coloring in it. On the downside, the other sushi rolls I had were lacking in flavor, and the cucumber salad lacked that certain bright fresh taste and flavor I expect from cucumbers. As for what was available right off the belt, it was challenging to find a roll that didn't contain krab. Of course you could order off the menu but no one ever asked me what I wanted.

This place surprised me. I had this place a few years back and forgot how it was so I decided to come back. At first, we sat down at a table and not a bar so we ordered off the menu. After a few guests left, we asked to be moved to the bar and the server happily moved our table. I have to see, this was probably the best sushi I've had in Eugene thus far and I've tried a lot of places here. The salmon was super fresh and the rolls were really tasty. My favorite item on the menu was the fried calamari as it was nice and crispy and the batter was flavorful. Overall for the price, I think this is a great spot if you are in the mood for sushi. One critique I would say is that their rolls and nigiri have a little too much rice to fish ratio but other than that, this place is great!

Good service, very limited parking, food is basic/ok. Having lunch here, they premake too many of the warmer plates too early and too much, hence my sushi was cold and old when it should've been warm.

More tasty takeout! Beef bento is my go to! The chicken bowl is my husbands! And then always extra sushi on the side.. not that we need more food cause both our plates are more than enough, but it's all SO GOOD!! Flavor is great, and portion size keeps us coming back! Now let's talk about ordering online / delivery.. I asked in notes for beef bento because I didn't see it on menu, but I have gotten it many times so I asked them to please sub that.. and they did! Wonderful service. I personally haven't sat in the restaurant in a few years as we usually do delivery or takeout but I hope to visit soon! Go try something from here you will just be surprised at how tasty it all is.

This is a really nice place for sushi , and the concept is similar to other sushi restaurants-rotating plates of sushi dishes, plus you can order stuff as well. Good service. Not super ambient. But the food is good!

The sushi here is so bad. I was so hungry I left still hungry but too nauseous to eat for the rest of the night.

Sushi Pure - Caterpillar Roll

Nice interior, and was waited on quickly. My waitress brought water, and took my order for green tea. It came quickly, a full mug, and a lovely little cast iron teapot with a second serving. Good tea, too! I ordered the nine piece Hamachi sashimi (on a diet... no carbs, lol)! I was brought a six piece... and let the waitress know that. Told her the six piece would be fine for now. Lovely presentation, and the hamachi was beautiful. Fresh too, no fishy odor and the color was good. It was delicious. I would eat here again!

Today I went and got a 'Caterpillar' roll and 'Day Dreamer' roll. Let me break it down for you. Caterpillar roll: AMAZING 10/10. I love sushi and this is a go to roll for me NO MATTER WHAT. This roll is always good, but Sushi Pure makes it amazing, the taste, texture, and fulfillment it brings is unmatched. Day Dreamer roll: Very Solid 7.75/10. This roll had me in a chokehold for a second. That's neither bad or a good thing. The taste all around was very good, but the texture through me off (more personal problem, so many of you may love this). It was like soft, then crunchy, then popping due to the fish egg. All around I would recommend, but it may not be for everyone. The servers I've had both times have always been so kind, quick moving, and motivated so the service is unmatched as well. All in all, Sushi Pure is a must try with an amazing atmosphere!

We don't *need* another Akira review, but our first time, so here goes:…read more The kampachi was buttery and beautiful. The best piece of nigiri I've had in Eugene or most any other place. Wasabi - like, real wasabi! I kept dabbing in my mouth never having tasted it before. It's both spicier on the front of your tongue and more luxurious on the back. I want more. The fried chicken bao was unfugging, unbelievably delicious. Can we say unfugging on Yelp? We got the Mrs V roll - spicy tuna topped with seared beef. Again, buttery with Rich beef and tuna that's actually spicy. Excellent roll This was an elegant, refined and completely delicious experience. We will definitely be back.

I first discovered this restaurant on Yelp about five years ago while visiting my parents who had…read morerecently moved to Eugene, Oregon from Marin County, the suburb of San Francisco. I'm a vegetarian but love vegetarian sushi, and my dad loves seafood and having both been Bay Area natives are used to really quality Japanese food (my mom who doesn't care for sushi or tofu but is a Karage chicken aficionado!). For whatever reason, including COVID and not taking many trips from the Bay Area to Eugene, we were finally able to dine at Akira on May 1, 2026. Thankfully, the food was excellent and didn't disappoint despite the five year wait! A must try as a starter is the Moyashi aka mung bean sprouts - pickled w/soy sauce or tamari, vinegar (?), microgreens & sesame seeds. The dish had a light spice, and may have had shichimi togarashi added. For vegetarians, I highly recommend the Donburi Yasai - $27. The Donburi Yasai it is definitely a large portion for one or even two people. In my opinion, the dish is to be shared amongst two or many at the table. The tofu wedges was one of the best tofu presentations I've ever had. My only complaint is that I never received a knife to which would've been helpful to cut the tofu especially the large pieces of asparagus and lotus root however, I did OK with my chopsticks for everything (with the exception of the asparagus). I also believe the dish required a dipping sauce option such as the karage chicken aïoli which was on the table and excellent with the tofu. Alternatively, a Ponzu sauce option, made in house or even Marukan Sudachi citrus ponzu would've been fine (for those who have a love on ponzu sauce but don't make it themselves, I highly recommend Marukan, a store bought brand). I also wanted to try some vegetarian sushi or even inari, but without the restaurant having Ponzu, I did not order as I do not like to use plain soy sauce with sushi and always substitute Ponzu when eating at Japanese restaurants. The Donburi Yasai dish also had what I later upon looking at my local grocery store believed to be cauliflower mushroom (however I may be incorrect) a very unusual type of mushroom in the dish that was almost seaweed like, delicious and surprising in the dish. Again, the fried tofu wedges were nothing shy of exceptional. The tofu wedges should also be served like the karage chicken as an appetizer or small plate that you can order as a standalone dish with the aioli. Vegetarians would come flocking to the restaurant for the fried tofu alone! Also ordered the salmon, avocado roll, and I had the miso soup served as a larger portion than I'm used to w/seaweed, tofu & mushrooms. I forgot to take pictures of the miso soup as I was starving and waited about 20-25 minutes after our first dish Moyashi and second item, my miso soup was served. That said the soup was divine some of the best I've had and ultimately well worth the wait. Side note, like my fixation on ponzu, I love shichimi togarashi especially in my miso soup (rest assured chefs, I always taste the soup as is before adding this delightful seasoning/condiment) after some back and forth, and a $1.00 charge I was given a tiny side of said spice! To be fair, Akira does state and mean it with their NO SUBSTITUTIONS policy but to me no togarashi shichimi with miso soup is like fries w/o ketchup! ;) They also have an absolute NO to go condiments or condiment containers policy. That I state as just an unusual fact without judgement or personal commentary. Anyways, as a vegetarian, I don't eat chicken, but was told that the Manju chicken buns and Karage chicken were absolutely excellent and some of the best fried chicken dishes my parents had ever had in their lifetime! My mom had just celebrated her 80th birthday so this is quite the statement especially considering she is a Karage chicken aficionado! I did notice that the karage chicken, like Yasai Donburi was a very large portion specially for the $15.00 price point. Despite the parentals best efforts, they had leftovers which were enjoyed at home. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant as one of the very best restaurants in Eugene (likely top 3-4 restaurants in the Eugene/Springfied area) and I believe Akira would stand up to some of the best Japanese restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you've never been to Akira and live in the area, you MUST try this place ASAP if you're visiting from anywhere in the country or outside the country, you must visit this restaurant when visiting. I truly cannot recommend this restaurant anymore highly whether it be for vegetarians, pescatarians, and meat eaters alike!

Ordered the Ikura onigiri and the Japanese Sweet Potato and the Agadashi Tofu. (I asked for miso butter on the side for me because I have found it overwhelms the potato which is seasoned really wonderfully). The Ikura Onirigi was simple and excellent. My favorite wishes that they would create an regular Onirigi Happy Hour where they are on discount so that those of us who just want to have half a dozen of those and a few drinks can come in and experience our heart's delight. My drink of choice here is the Painkiller -- which is really well balanced and so delicious it's hard not to have a second. Wednesdays are when they have two dollars off the ginger-based drinks and I didn't try it this time but I am keen to the next time because they appear to crush the ginger in house and make their own ginger concoction magic. The bar was thankfully not crowded. As an introvert it was nice to be finishing up and heading out just as more people were coming in.

The place was packed, but thankfully we were seated quite quickly with a 5-10 minute wait. The interior is cozy and welcoming. It's dimly lit with mood lighting on the tables. It felt lively since the tables were packed. We started by ordering the sake and shoyu flights and some fries with wasabi mayo while we explored the rest of their menu. We received the flights quickly. Both flights had 3 flavors and were tasty and fun to try. Each flight comes with a menu describing the flavor profile and how the drinks were made. The flavors of each flight were distinct and matched their descriptions. The fries with wasabi mayo were pretty basic fries. They were well seasoned, had a nice crunch, and the mayo had a subtle wasabi flavor without it being spicy. For our next round we ordered the salmon misoyaki, butternut squash, tofu kushiyaki, and steak kushiyaki. Unfortunately, our server forgot to bring our butternut squash, but we ended up being full with the rest of the food we ordered and just took it off our order. The salmon misoyaki was delicious - perfectly cooked, tender, and well seasoned. The mustard greens on the side added a nice sourness. The tofu kushiyaki was tender and flavorful. The steak kushiyaki was well-seasoned, but more well done than I preferred and a little tough. Next, we ordered the spinach goma ae and umeboshi unigiri. The spinach goma ae was such a pleasant surprise! It's a chilled spinach dish with a tamari/black sesame sauce that was refreshing mid-meal. Really good umami flavor! The umeboshi onigiri had the expected sharp salty/sour flavor that balanced well with the ratio of rice. Ended up dipping the umeboshi onigiri in the goma ae sauce to get every last drop. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake and créme brûlée. The cheesecake was just okay. The menu said there was sake and black sesame flavors, but apart from some black sesame dust on the plate we couldn't taste the sake/sesame. The texture was thick and not super smooth. It was a pretty heavy dessert and not very sweet. The créme brûlée was yummy. The custard was smooth and the crunchy caramelized sugar on top was a nice contrast in texture and flavor. The service itself was slow. We were waiting around 15 minutes between orders. Given, it was a busy night. However, we felt a bit forgotten as our server did forget to bring one of our dishes, we had to ask for our dessert menus twice, and we were accidentally served two basque cheesecakes instead of our order of cheesecake and créme brûlée. The staff were friendly, and quickly brought out the correct desserts at the end. I'd recommend ordering more dishes at once so you can enjoy more food in between orders. Would definitely come back again to try the rest of their menu. We wanted to try the Japanese sweet potato but they had sold out that night. The oysters, sashimi, and udon also looked quite good!

The dinner special (3 rolls, rice, salad, miso soup) is about $27 from what I remember. Hubby and I shared that meal (with extra salad and miso), added another roll, and ordered garlic edamame. That was too much food, but neither of us complained. The rolls were great and I loved the salad dressing. They also have a drink-of-the-day. That night it was a mango martini-margarita kind of drink. Let me explain - salt on the rim of a martini-sized glass, a tequila-based mango margarita with no ice. It was stronger than a margarita, more like a martini, and cost about $5. We had a young child with us and that brought some interesting moments. The staff was so helpful, friendly, and polite in bringing extra chop sticks and napkins as we needed.
