A decent place for poke. Most local poke places I've tried have been pretty mid to not great. The prices for their items at Subo are high compared to what you get, but what makes Subo better than the rest is the fresh quality of their fish. I ordered a half rice/half salad classic #7 bowl with fresh salmon, jalapenos, cucumbers, fried wonton, cream cheese, green onion, field greens, and cajun sauce. The purple rice was a nice addition and cooked well, and the cajun dressing for the bowl balanced surprisingly well with everything else. The restaurant itself is small with low ceilings and few tables; it holds some charm but probably feels claustrophobic quickly if there's a crowd. There is soy sauce, 'wasabi,' and pickled ginger in the back of the shop for you to add to your bowl to your taste. Overall, the fish is fresh, but for the price would not come here regularly. You can get a variety of more substantial toppings and customizations for a lower price and same fish quality in a different city. The $32 for 2 bowls and app deal is nice, but doesn't include any vegetarian bowl options. read more

Love this spot, probably the best sushi burritos in town. They are not cheap, but well worth it! Be cautious it is neighboring to the Crow cart. You get to choose and they have several choices like spicy mayo and sweet wasabi, including classic soy sauce. I was happy to see their expanded selection of beverages in their beverage cooler including classic Japanese beverages like Ramune and Calpico. Interesting combination of fresh seafood and unconventional flavors, which can be ordered in various forms - wrapped in nori, over a bowl of rice or in a salad. They also have poke, onigiri and other menu items. I went to the Whittaker location twice in a long weekend and found it to be inconsistent as to how well the seaweed was wrapped and stayed together. As a traditionalist, I made at least one modification each time because to me things like cream cheese don't belong with fish. Although unusual, some combinations like the Dragon and Ninja did work well together. The staff is really nice, helpful and hardworking. Prices seem a tad high especially because there is relatively little fish in relation to the other ingredients. The space looks like what was formerly a small sushi bar so there are a few seats at a counter and a couple of tables. We took our orders next door to a full bar which had lots of seating inside and an outdoor space. I would go again the next time I am in Eugene, but probably build my own burrito to focus on the fish and add very few other items. The ingredients tasted good quality although I felt as though the burrito was wrapped for design and not necessarily balanced with ingredients (I had a lot of rice/vegetable bites). They have moved from their food truck into a brick and mortar location. The space is small and intimate and the food is still very delicious. Now that they have a full fledge kitchen they've expanded their menu which includes adding an additional vegetarian burrito option. I would always get the hipster with no cucumbers, but seeing the newly added magic cap I had to give that a go ... with no cucumbers. (cucumbers are terrible, sorry but not sorry). The flavor was spot on. A little crunch from the crispy mushrooms, the freshness from the greens, and the heat from the roasted carrots. Had to come back and update my review to let everyone know that Subo is still in fact phenomenal and they have a new location on Blair that I am stoked about! It's connected to a super cute little bar that just opened up called Crow and Cart - you can order your food from Subo, grab a number and then they'll bring everything over to you while you enjoy a tasty beer, cider or cocktail. I highly suggest the Dragon Sushi Burrito. The tuna and salmon poke are flavorful, always fresh and I really enjoy how the flavors all pair together with the heat from the roasted habanero sauce. I also got the miso soup, wakame salad and crispy mushrooms - which were the perfect little snack to eat while hanging out at the bar. Amazing location and super nice staff at both places! That said, I walked in happy to be trying this place, and I could not have been greeted by the guy in there with less enthusiasm.
