Ume is usually the place I go wherever I eat out. I was a regular and then they ruined it for me on 2 separate occasions I had hair in my food so I went in and asked for compensation and they comped me for the cheapest item I was purchasing. I really love this place! I recommend it to people visiting from out of town for an easy and filling lunch or dinner. The stir fried noodles are a huge serving that are delicious and fresh. I love their onigiris for a fun snack (my husband loved it when I surprised him with a couple at an airport pickup). The onigiris come with some tasty slightly spiced pickles that are quite addictive. My favorite onigiris: tuna furikake and sesame kimchi. The entrees come with a tasty salad with a very yummy tahini dressing and excellent toppings (nuts, carrots, corn, etc). Staff is prompt and friendly, order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Bathrooms are shared bathrooms for the building, ask for a key. not your typical sit down restaurant, not even really meant to be a sit down restaurant at all i don't think. you order up front and they give you your food to-go and i just get the vibe they don't really want you hanging out there even though there are many tables and many seats. that being said the food is pretty good. i got the ahi tuna poke bowl and it was good but i don't recommend it for the price of 18$ as it wasn't that much fish, mostly salad. i do however recommend the chicken fried rice, it was so good! i would go again knowing what this place is all about now. read more

After agreeing to the salad add on, the cashier decided to add $8 per lunch special for salad up charge. An $8 salad? For a $7 plate. This bumped up all the plates up the $15 each. For starters, they added an automatic gratuity to my credit card even thought the "service" consisted of punching my order in and slapping the food onto the counter for me to pick up. We had Garlic Pork and Spicy Pork - EXACTLY the same dish except they splashed some hot sauce on top of mine. Salad included canned corn, canned beets and nothing of actual interest. I was in a hurry to grab some food before a video meeting and the place I was originally planning on getting food from had too long of a wait. That's when I walked into Ume on a whim hoping they would be speedy enough for me to make my meeting. The time it took for me to walk in, put my order in with the friendly waiter, and wait for the food prep was only a little over 10 minutes. Not only was the service quick but the food was freaking awesome! I ordered a lot, which always happens when I'm starving. I got fried tofu with peanut sauce, 4 veggie pot stickers, and a tofu udon. I saved the udon as leftovers since the fried tofu and pot stickers were filling enough. When I had the udon the next day it still held up. I'm so happy to have accidently discovered this place and I am so ready to try the other veggie options they have on the menu. read more

I'm all about tipping for good service and good food, but they put an automatic gratuity on your bill... perhaps the owners should pay their employees more, and they wouldn't need to put an automatic gratuity on your bill for crappy food and not very good service. If the pay/management is the reason why the employees are not very friendly, I do not blame them. I understand how it is. Everything was put in to go containers even if you eat there, and that's pretty weird/off-putting. It's like they want you to leave. I had the garlic pork and it was so dry!! The amount of time we had to wait seems very strange, considering this meat seemed like it had been sitting in a pan on the grill all day. Also, there was no flavor to any of the food and they don't give you that much sauce. It's just not worth the money, in my opinion. Decided to check out this new spot for dinner, right next to the Starbucks on Pearl & 18th Inside it was cozy and super casual. Order & pay at the counter and they'll bring your food to you. The menu has a good variety. Skewers, bento plates, sushi burritos, and small bites. The skewers (peanut chicken, curry chicken, bulgogi pork) were really good. The chicken was tender and full of flavor, and the pork was solid as well. Our sushi burrito was pretty decent. You are allowed to pick 4 toppings and some sauces. I regret not choosing a pickled topping, as that would have made it much better. Hopefully in the future they will have some custom sushi burritos with toppings/sauces already chosen for you. Sometimes having too many options can be stressful. The teriyaki edamame was a nice twist on the standard, and I appreciated the big cloves of soft roasted garlic mixed in. They have a couple beers and a cider on tap, as well as a Coke fountain. The people working were nice and our food came pretty quickly. This is a pretty small place and on walking in I wasn't entirely sure - but the reviews were good and I wanted just a skewer and some miso soup so we ordered. Really glad we did! My peanut chicken had great flavor and was perfectly cooked. It was set on a few leaves of baby spinach that picked up the sauce and wilted ever so slightly from the heat of the chicken. Yum! The miso didn't have any tofu - but was super salty & delicious. My sister enjoyed her chicken soba noodles - lots of vegetables made the plate look great. There weren't that much chicken in it probably like 3-4 small pieces but the gyoza & egg was a need. My bf ordered their chicken katsu plate with spicy mayo on the side. That plate was huge! It came with Tahini sauce but we didn't know what the sauce was for but it tasted good. We loved that the side salad came with almonds.
