Sunday at 4 30 pm two days after Valentines day. Place is packed. Took last two seats available at the sushi bar. Not the best seat. It's right front of the front door so cold draft wasn't pleasant. Also, most of the sushi to go or in house is picked up by you. Constant interruption. If looking for quite place to dine, not a good seat. We did have one of the best wait staff. We had her last time also and she was excellent both times. Soup came out luke warm but they did fixed that right away. Hot chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was so so. Nice sushi spot well located in Wash park; establishment has been a hip spot for years attracting locals and out of towners a like. This would be a great spot to take date if you're trying exude upscale foodie vibes to on your date. The service is good, wait staff is knowledgeable about the menu and inform you about all the fish that is flown in from all around the world. I ordered one of the sushi dinner sets and added a salmon collar. Presentation was nice and the value was there for an upscale sushi restaurant that is. I visited Sushi Den when we traveled to Denver recently. We have been to this place years ago and had an excellent experience so we had to dine here again. We had a reservation for our group so we got seated right away. I don't remember all the sushi that we had but everything was fantastic - with some of the nigiris they have aren't easily found elsewhere. The cocktails and sake was impressive too. The service was excellent. Our server took really good care of us. The ambiance is okay but can feel a little cramped and a little too dark for my taste. I don't mind though. You can close your eyes and point to something random on the menu and it will still be one of the best things you've ever tasted. The quality is insanely good and rivals some of the best sushi places I've ever been to (including the ones in Japan that I've tried). Can be pricey especially if you become a glutton like me but it's worth every penny. This has become my new favorite sushi spot in Colorado. So much so that I make an hour drive just to enjoy it. Everything is extremely fresh. The flavors are amazing and the wait staff is so helpful in picking and choosing new things every time I come. I never used to enjoy nigiri and always stuck with the rolls because they were safe and never tasted "fishy" to me. We moved here recently and this was our first foray into sushi. (Sorry, the sushi at Whole Foods doesn't count). They were flexible with the reservation time; they had read the comments I put on OpenTable, and the manager stopped by the table to welcome us. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly, so service was 5/5. The food was outstanding. We tried a variety of appetizers (hot and cold), nigiri, and rolls. Some standouts were the miso eggplant and tempura. All of the nigiri was outstanding. It was extremely fresh. I do not doubt that they fly there fish in fresh daily from Tokyo. The chefs use higher than average amounts of fresh wasabi in most of the nigiri. I loved it, but my younger daughter took some of it off. The cost was definitely on the pricier side. We're curious about the other restaurants that the owners have opened, but we will definitely be back to the OG! read more

I never eat expensive sushi because it is never worth it, but Sushi Den is worth every penny. This is the best sushi experience I've ever had and I would love to go back (if I could afford it). To start, we had the miso black cod which is just heavenly. Deep umami flavor from the miso and while it is a bit slimy, the taste overcomes that. We had the toro n tuna which just melts in your mouth. Highly recommend for a sashimi dish. The Osaka style salmon might have been one of my favorites, a complex concoction of flavors all blend together perfectly. The new style salmon roll has a series of tastes that all build upon each other to create a classic. The deluxe sushi platter was one of the best items value wise as it provides so much food but wasn't as good as the other items. The California roll was superb and the hand roll was cool. The nigiri and sashimi were all pretty average with the exception of the yellowtail which was delicious. The one item we got that I wouldn't recommend was the truffle sashimi. It was good but not exceptional compared to everything else. Our waiter was also excellent as he provided some recommendations for things I'd never order and that turned out to be my favorites. Our table was secluded and it wasn't too loud. It was a crowded weekend night and I now know why it's so crowded for having some of the best sushi in town. read more

This location has street parking only, however they do have valet so that's very convenient. We didn't have a reservation or anything but we were able to be quickly seated once we confirmed with the lady that we're able to finish our meal within 1 hour and 30 min or so. Lots of seating inside with it being dimly lit. However you're still able to see what's on the table because overhead there's individual spot lights that points down to the dining table which I thought was nice. They had 3 separate menus which the server helped provide helpful recommendations on. We did end up ordering quite a lot which came out to around $230 with tip included. Personally, my favorite sushi that we got was the lobster with aioli and I also really liked the chili oil that was used on the edamame. My least favorite was the salmon skin roll. It was fried and had an overwhelming fish flavor that just sucker punches your palate. The wagyu roll wasn't impressive either. I thought it would be a nice cut of wagyu rolled up so it was surprising to see it being in thin slices like at KBBQ places. It felt like I was eating brisket. Overall it was an okay experience but I wouldn't come back again since the price didn't cut it for me with the quality of the fish not being superb. read more

I came here with my husband's company for a dinner. What an amazing experience. Our table was full of all kinds of delicious sushi. I was able to try things. I never would have ordered for myself. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Starting with the miso soup. Really good. I love the mushrooms in it. One of my favorite things was the lobster roll. So unique. We ordered the whole grilled Bronzino. It was so delicious. The whole fish was so fresh& moist. Outstanding. I tried several Nigiri which is out of my zone usually. I loved the yellowtail tuna so much. We had some California rolls that were quite different from the usual. Everything was so exquisite and fresh. The service was a 10. Always there to bring new dishes and take the finished ones away. Not intrusive at all. Very professional. The atmosphere is wonderful. Upscale with lots of wood. When you walk in you see the sushi chefs. I love that. I was able to thank them on my way out and they acknowledged. I had a Japanese whiskey, old-fashioned. It was smooth and well mixed. I enjoyed it very much The whole table had a lot of sake and enjoyed some other libations as well. We had two desserts to finish our meal. Coconut cream pie was amazing. I would give this place a 4.3/5 only because I expected more since its got so many good reviews and recognitions. We made reservations for 8:45 on a Saturday. When we checked in the hostess let us know that their running behind and we will probably have to wait another 10-15 minutes. She also offered for us to go over to izkaya den (their sister restuarant next door). She said the menu is the same, the chefs are the same, the food is the same, just the ambiance is different. I declined because we had already been waiting around 10-15 minutes and so we were determined. They finally were able to seat us around 9:05-9:10. This place was still SUPER busy so I was expecting slow service. Our server came by in a reasonable amount of time to bring us water and menus. The menu is pretty extensive, lots of variety to choose from. The server asked if we have a preference on when the food comes out and we told him as their ready. The aburi salmon, aburi hotate, and osaka style salmon come out first in a reasonable amount of time. These nigiris were DELICIOUS! Temaki den has the same osaka style salmon nigiri and it was one of the best bites of the night. The hotate was very sweet and has a bit of lemon zest on top. Then the new style salmon roll came out shortly after. This was also really good! I would reccommend. Then the handroll came out quickly after. I felt overwhelmed at this point because I hadn't finished any of the other dishes yet. The handroll is bigger than the usual,but also $15. It was pretty tasty, my only complaint is that there is only a dollop of caviar in one end. I was expecting it to be in every bite, but it was not. Then the wagyu roll came out and eggplant sushi. Both decent, the wagyu roll had lots of flavor surpriseingly. However, I feel the rice was very dense and texturally off. I noticed this about the lobster tempura roll and spider roll. The rice does not seem the same quality as the one used for the nigiris and it was really dense. I also wanted to mention that the spider and lobster rolls came out significantly after all the other food. There was probably a 20 minute lag between. I also did not get a refill for a very long time. I understand the server is very busy, but I would have expected better service. I think overall, this place has very delicious sushi if you know what to order. The rolls were not as good as the nigiris aside from the new style salmon roll. That was DElicious! I also did not like having to wait much longer after our reservation time. Our server did tell us though that they're always busy the weeks following Valentine's day so I would avoid going around that time. Good sushi in Denver, but still slightly overhyped. read more

I had Sushi Den bookmarked for years, and somehow while I was taking a barre class, Eric R. convinced his sister and parents to join us at Sushi Den on our last night in town. He called and was assured it was fine to walk in without a reservation. When we arrived, people were being seated in Izakaya Den next door, which is closed on Mondays, so we were led to the back room of Izakaya Den. It is a beautiful space. Our server was very busy so it was a little bit tough initially to get drinks and refills, but overall he was great under pressure. I started with an iced green tea and a yuzu spritz mocktail, Eric R. got hot green tea and Sapporo, and his sister got a glass of rose. We marked up a sheet and ordered a ton of stuff, though two things I ordered were sold out (kinmedai and a cured bass from Greece). We ordered a bento box for Eric R.'s dad, which came with beef and salmon plus tempura, kinpira, and a California roll, miso soup, and a house salad. Eric R. got a seaweed salad to begin. For the table, we shared: Miso black cod - this was delicious! Toro n tuna - tuna sashimi wrapped around chopped tuna belly with a delicious sauce Crispy rice with spicy tuna - a table favorite with big pieces of jalapeno and avocado, topped with masago Miso eggplant - served hot with other veggies Nigiri: Eric R.'s mom got scallop and Tasmanian ocean trout. I ordered aji. Eric R. and I both got salmon tartar with caviar and negihama handrolls, and I ordered a salmon skin handroll as well. Maki for the table included the tuna poki roll, rainbow roll (with avocado and cucumber inside rather than fake crab!), and the grilled vegetable roll. I finished the meal with genki roll (assorted fish, shiso, masago, and avocado in a big 5 piece roll). Everyone but me shared a pineapple upside down cake with vanilla ice cream and berries. Everyone was very happy, which is great because the quality was good. Uni was not available, and I was a little bummed to miss out on the two special fishes I ordered. First and foremost, this is such a gorgeous restaurant and I loved it very aspect of it- it is super aesthetically pleasing without being gaudy. Second, all of the staff is great and our waiter Robert was certainly the cherry on top. Third, the sushi is very innovative and tasty indeed. Maybe it is not "authentic" per se as there are dishes that include items such as seared sushi and even sushi with blue cheese on top of it, but I can certainly say that it's tasty. My husband and I had reservations for 7pm on a Friday and it was packed and you definitely need a reservation. The restaurant itself is large and seemed to go on for a while. Even though we were seated toward the back, our server, Kazu, was always checking in and we never had to wait long for him to appear. We were in town for just the weekend and he gave us lots of suggestions for other places to check out. We got the Toro n Tuna (a popular option that sells out most nights), Jalapeño Hamachi, Mandarin Yellowtail, Negi Toro and Salmon Handroll, Tuna Tataki Salad, New Zealand Salmon Sashimi, and the Osaka Style Salmon Nigiri. We ordered a large variety including assorted sushi and sashimi and everything was great- buttery, smooth, and fresh. The toro was a standout! The king salmon was also fantastic. We also tried two different sake bottles which had unique flavors and were very smooth. The ambiance of this place was not my favorite - it seems very crowded and loud for an upscale restaurant. It doesn't match the food quality. The service was pretty good, we had a few waiters so it was a little confusing to follow but they did check on our table frequently. This is an amazing spot even if you arent a sushi lover. My partner and I both have extremely underdeveloped palates when it comes to sushi. We stick to cooked rolls, so I was slightly concerned when we decided to come here that it would be too "sushi heavy" for us but they had so many options for all needs!
