We just had our second visit to Sushi by Scratch in Miami, and it was just as amazing as the first. Every course in the 16-course menu was an absolute hit--beautifully crafted, packed with flavor, and just an all-around incredible experience. Some of the standouts for us were the scallop, king salmon, unagi, uni, spot prawn, bone marrow, wagyu, hamachi, toro, kanpachi, and akami. From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail was clear. We had to ring a doorbell by a passage way on the side of a restaurant to enter. They welcomed us with a complimentary drink while we waited for our session to start, and when we sat down in the private dining area, our names were already written at our designated seats--a small but thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more personal. The chef prepared each course right in front of us, explaining every detail along the way, which made the experience even more immersive. The staff was incredible as always--attentive, fun to talk to, and passionate about their craft. The only downside is the price--$185 per person, not including tips or drinks--but that's expected with omakase. It's definitely a splurge, but for the quality and experience, it's worth it. Besides the omakase we had in Japan, this is definitely one of my favorite sushi places! Can't wait for round three!

Regretfully, I can only give 4 stars. The sushi's quality and service are exceptional, yet the overall experience feels rushed. Despite paying extra money for an additional few pieces of sushi we left feeling hungry/unsatisfied. The ambiance and speakeasy vibe are wonderful. As I stated; the quality of the sushi is divine but the whole experience just felt really hurried. We have done omakase experiences in multiple cities/countries and this was by far the most rushed to date. I'm not exaggerating when I say we left hungry. Both my hubby and I had to eat a little something when we got home.

The best part of the experience was the service, we ended up being about 15 min late and the chefs thankfully waited for us out of courtesy. My favorite part was how each piece had such a unique topping and there was a method to how they would top ea h piece of Nigiri. I'd come back to experience it again!

Amazing Experience. Great Food. Yum! Team was attentive and knowledgeable. Whiskey Paring is a good Treat. Ambience is Perfect for a Romantic Dinner. Valentines Day Weekend 02/15/2025

This was a great experience! I read the reviews before going, yes you get a warm towel to clean your hands before and you do eat with your fingers but it's part of the whole experience and I absolutely loved it! It is pricey but not something you do everyday. We arrived to a little house, had we not known we could've missed it, loved it. We took an Uber here so not sure how the parking situation is though they do offer valet service. Upon entering we were greeted by Washington who gave us a welcome cocktail, a sake ginger that was very good. Once all 10 people arrived we were let in. Our names were on our seats which made it feel personalized. Wails was amazing with recommending drinks, we went with the sake pairing, very pricey but a great experience as I had never had one before. Chef Kevin, Mike and Chris were so much fun, explaining each sushi and stage. The hamachi was my favorite! But they were all amazing! I definitely recommend!

We loove Sushi by Scratch in Coconut Grove! Best team, always so friendly and funny, the whole omakase process is another experience here because of the people! The food is amazing, extremely fresh and delicious. Ambience and the whole vibe are lovely, always have a great time in. Highly recommend to omakase connoisseurs

One of the best omakese experiences in Miami! Every single bite of the 17 courses was exquisite. The setting is intimate and they do a lot to make the experience special. The chefs were fun, engaging and taught us more about the food we were eating. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars was because I thought the entire experience was a bit rushed. We had the 5pm seating and were out the door, paid and in our car before 6:30. I wish it would have lasted a little longer.

I had a grand time at this Omakase inspired sushi night in the Gables. It was a Birthday celebration for me and they sure did try to make it special with little details. There is a side entrance to Omakase that gives it kind of a speakeasy vibe but it was blocked off this day because there was an event going on in the Nave restaurant that Sushi by Scratch is found in. So, we entered through Nave - which is closed. We were early so we waited at a bar top and enjoyed a welcome sake. When it was time, we were escorted through a small kitchen into the omakase space. We were a small group so it was very intimate, the ambiance was cool - a little too quiet - and the room was dark. All the lighting was focused on the sushi and the chefs. But you also cannot miss the menu on the wall behind the table top. It was a great detail to the experience as patrons are able to keep up and anticipate each bite! We started off with drinks. Which were amazing. They also offer drink pairings like sake to go along with the pieces of fish. They also offer a dinning option where you can add truffle and caviar to your meal. But the fishes themselves were so fresh and mouth watering. Each piece of fish comes with an origin story which I thought was a nice touch to the experience (nerd alert!). This is not traditional omakase, there were a pleasant play of different flavors like match and indonesian salt, as well as textures. I will say that the bone marrow was an exciting twist to the 16-course. The 17th course was a nice green tea dessert!

A friend recommended this Omakase to me a while ago. When reading about it, Sushi by Scratch genuinely seemed like a unique concept given I've had the fortune to try a few. I was sold and excited. In reality, it did miss my expectations. Not that it was bad, the food is exceptional. Ambiance is nice. Intimately lit. Semi private seating, directly facing the chefs. Nice welcome room. It just seemed more "hindered" by the scratch franchise than "elevated" by it. Meaning, a little too copy / paste. One of my friends had some allergies, while they did their best to accommodate, they didn't have simple palette cleanser subs like ginger for him prepared. It seemed more that the chefs had learned recently about the allergies and not so prepared nor have ingredients on had to find a solution. Some of the non beef options lacked the same pizazz as the prepared options for the course. While the chefs were easy to talk with and down to earth, I felt as if there was some passion and (the freedom?) of creativity missing, but again, I think that was due to the access of being properly prepped before hand on the clients needs and having the ingredients on hand to do more with the chef's capabilities. We were the last seating and I felt they were pretty eager to get us out the door right at close. I can't truly knock them for that, but it was noticeable to the point it took away some of the specialness of the night. Compared to some of the other omakases in the area, I can't give this a five. It's somewhere between a three and a four. This time I rounded down, as I think it's great for an entry level Omakase with solid prepared sushi and flavors. The food is insanely fresh and well seasoned. The chefs are friendly and professional. Service was as expected. The whole concept seemed too cookie cutter for an Omakase hence the average rating for this tier of restaurant. Like other comments, it could have been heartier. Valet was $11 and in an easy to access parking area. The cocktails and welcome drink were nicely crafted. While I'm glad I went, I wouldn't rush back on my own accord given some of the uniquer peers in the city.

I went to this restaurant a new venture by the Scratch Restaurant Group that is definitely angling for a Michelin Star here to add to their collection. The meal is served in an Omakase style. The dining facility was located in a historical home while the new Scratch is now at its more permanent home next to Ariete. There are two servings of eight people each. Their is a a wine pairing picked out by the Somm which consists of some of the best Saki I have had. The Somm was the best. The sushi comes out quick and with explanations of what fish you are eating; many flown in from Japan. Service is top notch. Parking is off street and valet. The lack of the fifth star: the price! Makes your eyes water, even in Miami.

My review is a combo of both the 5 starts & the 1 stars. We booked our 5pm reservation about a month prior. When we arrived we were greated by a very kind staff member who provided us with a welcome drink. To say it's a full drink would be a mislabel, it was more of A shot of Japanese whiskey and ginger. Delicious, but definitely nothing to write home about. Once you enter the sushi bar the seats will be labeled and parties grouped together. I did love the intimacy of the small dark room and mingling with just a few guests. The chefs are friendly and knowledgeable . The courses consist of one nigiri (16) and one dessert cube. The quality of the fish is unmatched. However with a dozen omakase opening in Miami they need to be a bit more edgy/competitively priced. Which leads me to my first true negative - the cocktails and beverages over all were wildly over priced. I'm used to Miami cocktails being $16+ but $18 for a 5oz simple cocktail seems insane. Second- we left hungry. 16 nigiris over an hour and a half may seem like a lot of food. But it's definitely not for the price. And on top of that, I feel like they know this bc they continually tried to upsell additional al a carte items , pairings etc. Finally- we left paying $260pp for the omakase and two drinks. And let me reiterate, we left hungry! It's definitely nothing I need to repeat even tho the bites were delicious. For that amount and the overall satisfaction I would recommend either a lesser price point , an additional serving or larger portions. Too many other omakase with the same quality and lower price tag. This was a definite one and done for me.

What an experience! Coming from an avid sushi connoisseur I can easily say I tried some thing new here. To start there is a secret entrance with a door bell you must ring to be let in. Your spot at the shared counter table is then indicated by a personalized place setting. It is an intimate time with only 10 spaces available, which must be booked far in advance and with a $50 deposit in to create the reservation. The omakase forecast is listed on the main wall and each piece is explained in great detail by the chef as it is served. Truly a diligent effort and the time spent is to be appreciated. Oh and the actual sushi is fantastic. Fresh and exquisite. The price is $165 per person, and I have already booked my next reservation. Treat yourself and give this place a go, it will be unforgettable! P.S. make sure you arrive on time ;)

Really delicious and memorable sushi experience. I put off eating sushi in Miami after moving from Seattle due to low expectations, but sushi by scratch didn't disappoint. The experience was definitely experimental and not traditional omakase, but the experimental bites like bone marrow and wagyu were some of my favorites. The menu starts off strong with toro within the first few bites. The sake guru recommended a dry sake that tasted incredible and was about half the price of the drink pairing. The experience is intimate and well presented, expensive but perfect for a special occasion. I most likely wont return due to the price, but would recommend for a splurge as the service was impeccable and it was my husband's favorite meal in Miami.

My only complaint is that food came out a bit slow, especially considering it wasn't very busy at the time. Like serve me all my orders all at once pleaseeeeee so I can indulge lol What I Had: _________________ Sashimi Assortment - 10/10 Freaking delicious. Light, decadent, and incredibly fresh. Each piece tasted clean and high-quality, the kind of sashimi that melts the second it hits your mouth. They did their thing! Kanpachi Sashimi - 10/10 So good. Soft, delicate, and perfectly fresh. Every bite was balanced and flavorful without being heavy at all. Nigiri - White Fish Tasting - 11/10 Hands down my favorite part of my experience. I ordered multiple rounds (they come two per order), including branzino and snapper. The branzino was unreal. I wanted only branzino... that is how marvelous it was. Topped with this umami crunch that added so much texture and flavor. It was literally mouthwatering, like a burst of flavor in every bite. I honestly could've kept ordering this all night. Nigiri - Bluefin Tuna Tasting - 5/10 This one just wasn't for me. It wasn't fishy, but the texture was very slimy and didn't sit well in my mouth. It didn't swallow smoothly and just wasn't appetizing to me personally. Definitely a pass. Blue Crab Hand Roll - 6.5/10 I know this is a fan favorite, but it was just okay for me. Not bad at all, just didn't wow me compared to everything else I had. For $6, it's fine, but I wouldn't rush to reorder it. Customer Service: 8.5/10 Friendly and helpful, just slightly slow. I truly appreciate when servers know their menu well and are able to make suggestions. I can't remember my server's name, but she was just top-notch. We ordered: - Miso soup, (served in a charming, Japanese chawan mushi cup) the flavor was really good and strong. (I hate it when it's weak) - Spicy dumplings. They tasted homemade. Yummy - Shrimp shu mai, good, tasted as it should - Tanaka roll, with extra crispies on top, (I was not a fan because I did not expect it to be deep-fried. if it had not been deep-fried, I would've liked it.) - Peking duck served in an impressive three tier tower that looks like a round Chinese Temple. - Pork Belly Bao bun, this was also a miss for me because I expected it to taste like barbecue, but it was just really salty like they used a lot of brown salty sauce. All in all, I really enjoyed this restaurant, even though I didn't like those two items. The price point of $185 per seating is super worth it. You get a lot of fish and they are very creative with each nigiri. Their spin on it shows their creative side (with Miami flavors) but is not super over the top and sauce does not drown out the freshness of the fish. Something that stood out to me was how they shaved frozen monkfish liver as a topping. I wanna go back just for that!! They also had some pieces where they smoked the fish. Once they're ready, a server came to get us from the hotel bar and led us through an alleyway to a separate building which was where the actual omakase was taking place.
