Oh my!! The best sushi and service I've had after 11 years in Daytona! Atmosphere is nice. It's a strip mall restaurant, but I almost feel like I'm in a Sushi-ya in Asakusa! The staff are Chinese. What a pleasant surprise! We'd been wanting to try this place for a quite awhile but the ambiance of a strip mall isn't usually what we're in the mood for on a date night. We stopped by on a Wednesday night with our 2 year old, and were immediately welcomed and seated by the kind gentleman at the front. The server was attentive and sweet - giving us free soup and tempura crab appetizers and even a bubbly Korean soda for our little one (the kind that carbonates when the marble is popped in). I was grateful she was more enthralled by the marble than actually drinking it, but nonetheless a sweet gesture. The menu was extensive with hot/cold appetizers, hibachi, a la carte rice and more, single sushi, raw/cooked basic rolls and specialty rolls, all reasonably priced. We ordered a Boston roll, spicy tuna roll, dynamite roll (my favorite - deep fried with salmon, hot sauce, and melty warm cream cheese inside), and the specialty roll of the day "sexy mama" with tempura shrimp, wasabi, lean, cream cheese and jalapeños. The rolls were presented nicely, came out quickly, and were delicious with a cold $6 glass of sauvignon blanc. We'll definitely be back again and can't wait to try more of the menu. read more

The sushi is good but service is terrible. This is just as good as any other sushi 99 - the fish tastes fresh and the roll and sashimi selection is good. The service was awful though. The waitress barely came around to refill tea and water and it took an extremely long time to get our order which was only 3 rolls and some sashimi. I don't know if this was just and off day but makes me not want to come back. Also, the menu is laid out oddly where the sushi is on 3 different parts of the menu and you have to keep flipping back and forth to see all the options. read more

The fried dumpling were deep fried, hard in the outside and not fully warmed on the inside. The hibachi plate needed flavor, nothing had any taste. This is my new favorite sushi place in Ormond! I had their Chicken Tempura & Lucky Dragon roll as a starting appetizer. I can say I am very pleased; per usual most sushi restaurants that are in the $$ range are quite mediocre and lack quality. Sushi 99 is fair with prices and the quality is shown throughout with little details Wasabi, Rice, and Ginger etc. For my entree I had the Super Poke Bowl w/ Tuna and 4 toppings including: avocado; edamame peas; and double seaweed salad over rice! I have ordered from them a number of times now and I'm beginning to lose count and I like the food. The one thing though is that there was so much Styrofoam and every order it's gotten completely insane. I would ask that they go with more sustainably friendly packaging because this is 2021 and it's time to catch up with most of the other restaurants we order from, especially other sushi restaurants none of whom we have had a problem with them using so much Styrofoam you feel like you're making your carbon footprint a hell of a lot bigger. Sushi 99 is relatively new. The staff is really friendly and the food is excellent whether you eat in (when available or take out)! We had just this past week for takeout and it was fresh, hot and tasty. We have been for maybe the past 9 months, maybe once every 4-6 weeks. Food was ok, not great by any means but the service was not. Menu says soup and salad with a Love Boat selection. Waitress said no just soup after we asked where our salad was. We asked for miso instead of clear soup, said no problem but charged us the same price as ordering the soup a la carte. Waitress chewing gum the entire time. Just not a nice place for a good meal. I had hibachi steak and shrimp, it was cooked exactly to order and very satisfying. My with had the lobster sushi roll and loved it.
