I have nothing but good things about the subs. I order the 18in Italian sub for $17.95. The ingredients were very tasty and the quality of the meat was very good. I order the sub over the phone and the person that took my order was very polite and nailed the order. Inside reminds me of an old town deli. It just has that vibe. I saw a lot of workers behind the counter, a bit chaotic, but they appeared to be taking phone orders and on-site orders. Overall, I had a very good experience at Surf's Up. We have visited Surfs Up for over 30 years and it use to be a place we looked forward to visiting when in town. Its so disappointing how downhill this place has gone. The restaurant itself is dirty and in need of many repairs. The lettuce in the subs was brown and wilted and disgusting, barely any meat, half of our sandwich was bread because it was cut wrong. The pizza was cold, floppy and old. In addition, 2 subs and 3 slices of pizza was close to $60! This didn't include the $13 for 2 fountain sodas from a machine that was half broke. And 2 CUPS of water. Sadly, we won't return and we don't recommend and Surfs Up will have to remain a memory for us. I wouldn't eat here u less you want gross subs, old pizza and a disgusting dining area. read more

Surfs Up has been my go to place for 27 years. I have loved these cheesesteaks as the price has risen year after year. Now I am questioning if this place is going belly up. It's run down. The paint is peeling. It needs a serious refresh.The cheesesteaks are not as good and not as full. It smells of financial trouble or the owner just doesnt care anymore. Why would a ham sub cost the same as a cheesesteak?? Thats gauging your customers. The pizza is bad. Pomodoros is across the street crankimg out quality pies. Its never crowded anymore. The lines used to be out the door. It doesn't even come up as a pizza or cheesesteak place on google. Someone please tell this place isnt going away. Watching it die is horrific. read more

I have been coming here for the last 20+yrs & I really want my year round anticipation for Surf's Up to parallel my experience but it just doesn't. My complaints are with the service & the accuracy of orders. Every time we come here there is something missing or something wrong with the order. We always know exactly what we want & how to order without confusion (at least on our side of the counter). I don't know why it's so difficult to correctly assemble an order from a simple menu. Now for the service- the staff is full of teenagers who seem to prioritize their social life over their work. I came in today and I was barely even acknowledged. I couldn't help but feel like I was interrupting their social hour. And on top of it, our order was wrong. So... We stopped at Al's when we got in town. Had not been recommended but needed to stop urgently, (3 hour trip). Wow, what a pleasant surprise, enjoyed a cheeseburger, eggplant parmesan, and vege-burger sub. Pepsi products pushed it up a couple of notches for me. The food was hot and delicious and the kitchen staff was in high gear working in harmony to prepare the food. Our group enjoyed it so much, we ordered two more times during our vacation week. Please do not go to Surf's up in Bethany! The manager threatened my son and called him the b word. I went to talk to him and the owner today and they were not apologetic. They claimed my son called the manager a name. My son was wearing a mask and it is hard to understand people while wearing it. I thought it's a simple misunderstanding but the manager did not want to hear that. I spoke to the owner and he said he sides with his manager. The manager also stated my son and his friends have been harassing him and tore up his dining area in March. I told him that's impossible because we live three hours away and this is our first time here this year. The owner was still not apologetic and I asked how could they recognize him with a mask. During a global pandemic you would think a business would be grateful for their community support. Instead - the "manager" and owner of Surfs Sucks wrongly accused a really good young man and his dad of lying..and then banning them from the spot forever. I am in awe. It's like a bad pizza reality show. Fortunately, the ban is a blessing in disguise for the young man and his dad's digestive system. If they are willing to treat their customers this way, I can't imagine how little care they have for their preparation of food and overall cleanliness. Be a better business Surfs Sucks. Best cheese steak and subs in Bethany! They really hustle there in the family run restaurant that is an institution in town. Only open "in season" you must give it a try. The subs are better than the pizza, but you can get slices of pizza, which I still think are better than Grotto, but are still just OK for pizza. There's seating upstairs, so don't panic when you see it's mobbed. It does move fairly quickly. Support your local business, get your cheese steak here! read more

This place was packed. Solid food, huge portions. Small subs are $9 for 11 inches, Large is $14 for 18 inches. We added a pizza as well. Keep in mind that are two places to order. A pizza line, and a everything else line. We had the kids go stake out a table upstairs and lines and food prep was about 15 minutes. Being that day after July 4th, it's probably not usually that busy. The food is 2.5/3 stars, location is great and price is satisfactory. Probably some of the worst pizza I've had. Initially planned to get Grotto's while at the beach but didn't realize it closed down. I ordered a slice of sausage and mushroom. The girl who helped us although friendly picked up my pizza with her bare hands which I know for a fact is violating health regulations-I have no idea where her hands have been. They used what looked like canned mushrooms and after putting my slice in the oven, the crust, sauce and cheese were warm but the toppings were cold. I had to scrape off the toppings.
