Slice of the broccoli chicken pizza
    Kelly D.

We went into Bethany purposely to try the pizza after reading some tempting reviews from different sources. When I made plans, I did not realize it was strictly a take out place. Hearts and stomach were set on pizza and when we looked as to their exact location it wasn't until then we figured out there are absolutely no seats. We went anyway to see for ourselves as I has read 1 review mention table, which was untrue. There's a SMALL counter against their front window, but don't plan to stand there to eat, only really there to give a space for napkin dispenser and condiments (parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, hot pepper flakes, oregano, and garlic powder). Plus if you try to stand and eat at the counter, you'd be in the way of all the other customers getting drinks from the self serve fridge or getting sprinkles of condiments at counter. Yes, this establishment is SMALL. Currently if you want to come to buy a slice of pie, only offering that option until 4p, after that only full size pizza orders. We came to try one of their specialty Gourmet offerings and we decided on the chicken broccoli with sun-dried tomatoes. Takes about 25 minutes so plan for that if you're feeding the parking patroled lots. (Park mobile is $3.60/hour with fee and no fraction of the hour allowed). Pizza looked and smelled delicious and we received fresh out of the oven. Since we wanted to eat this fresh, we planned on tailgating in the parking lot down the street. We mentioned that when we checked out and they graciously told us about some less used tables behind candy kitchen. We took that information, walked a couple blocks and found the tables and enjoyed a nice outdoor space to try our pizza (they gave us plates & napkins). Upon tasting, felt something was missing in flavor. After more bites, we figured out it definitely needed something to elevate it to perfection and that ingredient was probably fresh garlic. Portions of chicken and broccoli were good, fresh and dough was good (thin NY type - i like many varieties), however by the time the 2nd slice cooled off, the ends that weren't coated with anything became too chewy & dry to finish, so we didn't eat the ends of the crust. I don't like that, it feels wasteful and thoroughly enjoy a good dough. Shame we weren't in a restaurant setting to eat this and too far to bother walking back, as I would have utilized the garlic powder and parmesan cheese to doctor it up. BUT, with that said, shouldn't have to if it's good right out of the oven. We did enjoy, just wasn't perfection, but we haven't discounted them either. If we found ourselves in Bethany, wanting pizza and not interested in a restaurant experience, we would try them again. Had a couple other pies we were debating on getting and I'd consider trying still. I'd also ask to add fresh garlic to this one & try again or depending on the selection, try a bite before leaving to see if it needed any extra umph added. The place is clean with VERY friendly people who are helpful and truly care about you as a customer. Definitely a lot of regulars visit and a family run business so supporting them is important.

Pizza and the beach are a good combo. The pizza is good without being extraordinary. There were many flavors to choose from. The employees are friendly.

We have had Pomodoro Pizza a few times over the years and the pizza is pretty tasty! Today we called and it took a few times to get through. But if you get the busy signal, keep trying! The employee on the phone was very friendly and efficient! We called around 3pm and requested a pickup time for 5pm. The pizza was ready before our quoted pickup time as well, which was great! We ordered the white spinach pizza and the ingredients were evenly distributed and fresh. It was a little too overpowering with the garlic though. Otherwise, it was a good pizza.

The pizza is fantastic! The owners are so kind, pomodoro pizza keeps me coming back to Bethany Beach.

Our server was very friendly and appeared to be hosting and waiting tables at the same time but she was pleasant and prompt. We both ordered salads - mine was the chopped and husband chose Cesar and both were a very generous portion size and super fresh and delish. I really enjoyed it. Great price too. We chose to build our own pizza with just red sauce, cheese and Italian sausage. It was out quickly, piping hot, and VERY good. My husband is from St. Louis so he likes very thin crust and very crunchy (think cracker crust) and this was cooked to crunchy (but not burnt) perfection with fresh and yummy sausage on top. We both actually really enjoyed the meal - more than our fancier date night meal the night before. I'd absolutely come back here if ever in town again. It's charming and delicious. I had been told by friends that Grotto Pizza is known as "grody Pizza" (to use a "Valley Girl"…read morephrase.) ....But I am not Yutzy-Futzy or a rich visitor to Bethany Beach from New York or DC with high-falutin tastes -- just a regular guy who figured that the negative reviews for Grotto Pizza were because in Bethany there ARE a ton of Rich utzy futzy folk who have little taste for basic and affordable fare. As such I was figuring that Grotto would be good-honest and acceptable for a "regular-joe" like me. Surely it's gotta be like Pizza Hut or Round Table or heck, even Dominos.... So I gave it a go.... And ummm NOPE! Waited for almost 10 min to be seated on a quiet afternoon while one employee after another walked by me purposefully avoiding eye contact with me. -zero stars So I had 10 min to look around at the condition of the place - it looked like it had not been deep cleaned for a decade - oh sure they are sweeping/moping the middles but you don't look at the edges or the corners NASTY-also holes in and completely worn out booth benches - and just generally sad worn out basic/and super cheap chairs and tables -Zero Stars Waitress was very nice and prompt (once someone got us seated). -Four Stars Salads were ok, lettuce was fresh but other elements were sparse, someone prolly took great pride in placing the one olive right in the middle next to the one cherry tomato. Dressing was cheap food service stuff. - Two Stars Now to the pizza. It was absolutely just "Grody" as I had been fore warned . It was a general combination specialty pizza straight from the menu. The biggest problem was it was WET Not from grease, but from water which I think may? Have come from canned mushrooms or very wet sweet pickled peppers It was actually dripping "liquid" and thus soggy. The lack of flavor sauce was made worse by how sweet it was - sort of like it was tomato paste mixed with sugar.... The whole thing was tasteless and also comprised of the cheapest possible ingredients. - Zero Stars I guarantee that a dominos pizza that bounced around a deliver car for thirty minutes and is basically cold - Would be an order of magnitude better than what was served to me. It's really sad because peeps in Bethany could use a good honest value driven pizza place - but this is not it. - Choose elsewhere and shame shame on the proprietors they could do so much better.I see this as a basically tourist trap restaurant. Total average stars --- ZERO. Oh yeah and the price is not good either . Absolutely No value for the money you pay.

Friends invited us to stay over in Bethany Beach for the weekend for some relaxation. The minute that I saw Armand's I said "we gotta go there so for lunch." we went and to our sheer surprise and delight, all the appetizers were 50% off. I guess that's due to it being slow season and businesses are trying to stay open. We started with the Greek salad and Old Bay wings. Both were delicious with the Greek salad coming with that wonderful Greek salad dressing, and the Old Bay wings, giving the wonderful authentic Maryland taste. If you know Armand's, you know that they're famous for their deep dish pizza. Granted, they did have the traditional thin crust, but who's gonna get that, when you can get that? We made it easy on ourselves and got a pizza that had pretty much everything on it - Onions, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms and pepperoni. The four of us shared one pizza and can I just tell you we had four slices left over. Suffice to say, it was huge and very filling. We boxed it up and had it for dinner that evening with salad - two meals in one! Please, if you're in the Bethany Beach area stop by, meet the wonderful owners and enjoy a deep dish pizza - you will not regret it!

In fact this is now our #1 Italian restaurant for happy hour. We were here on Wednesday for happy hour at the bar. I will summarize our two most recent visits here: I started with my favorite two Limontinis for $11 each. They offered a half price bottle of wine special. We opted for the Tinto Negro Malbec red wine for $40, which was discounted down to $20. The Tinto Negro tasted great. I also enjoyed my usual Bob's happy hour meatballs with crostini for $11. My total bill was $81 less gratuity. I was awarded a Local by Toast Reward program annual birthday reward credit in the amount of $10 so my bill was reduced down to $71 less gratuity. Our bartender Sabina G. applied my $10 birthday credit to my bill, which reduced it down to $71 less gratuity. I like how easy it was for me to apply for my $10 birthday credit using my mobile phone number under the Local by Toast Reward program. We returned here again in January with our friends. I enjoyed my usual two Limontinis, my Yuenling draft beer and my three Bob's meat balls. My total bile was $57.25. Sabina served us very well both times by being very customer friendly. We all agreed we will continue to return here when we are in the mood for good Italian.

I will summarize my four most recent happy hour off season visits. We were first here at the bar with my six family and friends. Well finally the off season happy hour half price dinner entrees have finally returned here starting around mid October with pretty much the same entrees and menu as last year. They subsequently updated the half price entrees in early November. All items have pretty much returned here except for some new entrees. The good news is that at least two new half price happy hour dinner entrees were added including the surf and turf with espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon with two skewered shrimps, yukon mash, tomato garnash with blue cheese in the middle of the tomato for $40 or half price for only $20. I never had espresso encrusted filet mignon, therefore I ordered and enjoyed mine medium rare. I could barely taste the encrusted espresso. I ended my dinner with my favorite Fiddlehead's draft honey porter for $6. My total bill was $111 with half price discount of $36.50 so my final bill was $77. On my second return I enjoyed my ahi tuna rice bowl with broccoli, ginger fried house rice, sprouts and ginger vinaigrette for $36 or half price for $18. My total bill was $72 excluding gratuity. On my third return I again enjoyed the espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon, which I had ordered medium rare, but was over cooked to medium. I did not complain about returning my filet for a replacement, however I did show it to bartender Dennis. Next time I will order my filet rare. On my fourth return I enjoyed my usual cosmos and my ahi tuna rice bowl which was always properly cooked ahi style. Bartender Dennis always remembers I prefer a little extra spice, without me even asking for my Sriracha. Dennis recommended both of the above entrees. See my most recent pic of the new menu. Chef Cowan waved to me at the bar. Bartender Dennis served us very well supported by our usual excellent recommendations and conversations. Chandra and Cameron also said hello. The staff here are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On Black Friday I purchased another $1k in gift cards for the off season from Off The Hook and Hooked in OC. Needless to say we will continue to return here for happy hour to spend our $1k.
