Coming from out of town, always look forward to a visit to Grotto's. Still bummed that the Bethany downtown location was closed. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, headed here for dinner. It was busy inside, but we were seated quickly for a party of five. Once seated, orders were taken. The Alcohol beverages were delivered quickly, but none of the waters request. Had to flag someone down that proceeded to tell us to tell our waitress... ok, that was strange as we would have if we could have located them. We also ordered two salads as appetizers and only one came. We ordered two cheese pizza and one came right as soon as receiving one salad and other was delayed. We asked for knifes and had to remind a second time and then were told they only have a couple as all were in the dishwasher. So, food was good, but service had a lot to be desired. I had been told by friends that Grotto Pizza is known as "grody Pizza" (to use a "Valley Girl" phrase.) ....But I am not Yutzy-Futzy or a rich visitor to Bethany Beach from New York or DC with high-falutin tastes -- just a regular guy who figured that the negative reviews for Grotto Pizza were because in Bethany there ARE a ton of Rich utzy futzy folk who have little taste for basic and affordable fare. As such I was figuring that Grotto would be good-honest and acceptable for a "regular-joe" like me. Surely it's gotta be like Pizza Hut or Round Table or heck, even Dominos.... So I gave it a go.... And ummm NOPE! Waited for almost 10 min to be seated on a quiet afternoon while one employee after another walked by me purposefully avoiding eye contact with me. -zero stars So I had 10 min to look around at the condition of the place - it looked like it had not been deep cleaned for a decade - oh sure they are sweeping/moping the middles but you don't look at the edges or the corners NASTY-also holes in and completely worn out booth benches - and just generally sad worn out basic/and super cheap chairs and tables -Zero Stars Waitress was very nice and prompt (once someone got us seated). -Four Stars Salads were ok, lettuce was fresh but other elements were sparse, someone prolly took great pride in placing the one olive right in the middle next to the one cherry tomato. Dressing was cheap food service stuff. - Two Stars Now to the pizza. It was absolutely just "Grody" as I had been fore warned . It was a general combination specialty pizza straight from the menu. The biggest problem was it was WET Not from grease, but from water which I think may? Have come from canned mushrooms or very wet sweet pickled peppers It was actually dripping "liquid" and thus soggy. The lack of flavor sauce was made worse by how sweet it was - sort of like it was tomato paste mixed with sugar.... The whole thing was tasteless and also comprised of the cheapest possible ingredients. - Zero Stars I guarantee that a dominos pizza that bounced around a deliver car for thirty minutes and is basically cold - Would be an order of magnitude better than what was served to me. It's really sad because peeps in Bethany could use a good honest value driven pizza place - but this is not it. - Choose elsewhere and shame shame on the proprietors they could do so much better.I see this as a basically tourist trap restaurant. Grottos runs a carry out special 2 regular 12" cheese pizzas for $20.00 ! I added pepperoni to each pie and it came to $25.00. Grottos isn't my top choice for pizza, however it satisfied my craving for pizza, and made my friend happy. Grottos uses a special blend of mild white cheddar ( greasy when melts) which gives the pizza a unique taste with a sweeter sauce . I prefer classic mozzarella cheese and mild sauce on my pizza but the limited special was a good price . read more

We stopped in to this location on a weekday and we were seated promptly. Still, they serve classics and have something for everyone. We ordered 1 large extra cheesey chicken cheesesteak and a regular pizza. Our waitress (I forgot her name) had purple hair and she seemed less than pleased to be serving us. Not to mention, she put in our orders wrong and we ended up with an order of a half chicken cheesesteak that came out 15mins before the pizza did. The pizza was fresh and hot tasting. However I was disappointed in the chicken cheesesteak. It seemed to lack both chicken and cheese - especially since we wanted it extra cheesey. Some of the best pizza you will ever taste. The presentation itself is pretty cool: pizza sauce and cheese presented in swirling pattern on the pie. But, it doesn't stop there. They have a blend of seasonings in the sauce that just pops with every bite. Definitely oregano and garlic, not heavy on onions or peppers. A perfect balance of sweet and tang. The sauce is intertwined with a tasty blend of mozzarella and cheddar, giving the cheese a nice bite. The crust is thin, but not a cracker. It has great flavor, and you can taste the 'burnt' underside from the ovens. We also decided to order a caprese salad with balsamic glaze. If I didn't love the pizza so much, I would've eaten that all night. There was a healthy portion of tomato chunks in with arugula, drizzled with that sweet glaze along with sweet, creamy slices of mozzarella. Yum! Definitely, an alternative if you don't want pizza. The XL pizza is our usual order, and the pie plate is cleaned off easily. Also, don't forget to drink it down with PA Dutch birch beer. The two just go getter so well. Our first time in Delaware and we kept seeing this place all over and their claim to "legendary taste" etc. We decided to check it out and it was only a quick drive to this location from our hotel. They had ample parking and a separate to go entrance which made it very convenient. They have a decent amount of options for pizza including various sizes and we went with the margarita pizza. It was definitely fresh and tasty with fresh ingredients! I really enjoyed their crust ! The regular 12 inch size was perfect for 2. My fiancé also got chicken fingers and they gave us like 5 - which we were not expecting. This place is definitely worth the hype and if we're back in Delaware I think this will be our go to pizza spot! I used to live within walking distance of this Grotto's and still make the trip at least once annually even now that I'm several hundred miles away. I've never once been disappointed in the quality of the pizza from this location, and it always lives up to my memories of what I grew up eating. The restaurant itself is definitely nothing special; it's dark and outdated, and I would absolutely recommend carrying out instead. The takeout counter is located between the main restaurant and the attached bar. They are usually quite efficient, with only a 20 minute wait for my order most recently on a Friday night. Pizzas came out piping hot and exactly as we wanted. I will never get tired of their classic plain cheese pie! Delicious every time. read more

You have to ask for lettuce, tomato, pickle on the side for your hot sandwich because the sides only come with cold sandwiches. Ordering delivery was painless and even on a busy Friday night, we got our pizza inside of an hour. The pizza was huge and stuffed the 4 of us. The cheese pull was classic and delightful. I have to start with mentioning the phenomenal service my table received from our waiter, Reagan. Very attentive, friendly, and willing to answer any questions. The food came out at a reasonable time and had competitive prices for the area. I had the honey bbq traditional wings and they were delicious, flavorful/none were dry at all! So we sat at the bar one evening and met a friendly bartender who suggested we join the rewards program for a discount on our pizza so we did so. Driving for over an hour and past lunch time we were starving and cane across Grotto Pizza so stopped for lunch. I had heard how much my chiro's assistant told me she missed when living in the area. You can't go wrong with Grotto Pizza. It's my famiy's personal favorite. Look for the SWIRL. They put the cheese on 1st then the sauce. Grotto uses Wisconsin cheddar cheese which you either love or not. A thin crusted perfectly sauced pizza. Take 2 home, half/par baked. Bake 10 minutes at 450. I did it 1,000 times. Tried this place again for a quick sandwich after a hard day of work. As usual, the staff I interfaced with was great. The meatball parm sandwich I got was terrible. Could not even taste the cheese, they must have put one thin slice on the bread, like they were trying to hide it. I got there 5 minutes before it was supposed to be done, and it was already done, and it must have been sitting for some time because it was cold. Very disappointed in the food, they seem to have cut back on their ingredients or quality or something. The good: the food was reasonably priced, we ordered the white pizza, a traditional cheese and a small antipasto. I liked all of it. The crust was thin and not too crispy, the cheese to sauce ratio was good. I like a sweeter sauce and was happy with it. The garlic pizza was tasty and I really liked the antipasto salad. The bad: friends of ours didn't like the sauce because it was sweet. I found it to be tasty though. Otherwise I have no complaints. Disappointing evening. We like Grottos, like the staff, go there frequently. We are good tippers, had a huge party there a couple of weeks ago.. Tonight, sat at bar as usual, suddenly the music was turned up really loud. We asked Cody if it could be turned down a bit. Nope, he said, this is the way it is. Sad. We won't go back, especially to the bar. Shame, though, as we wanted to have another event for our volunteers. We will find another venue. Wanna talk about their staff! We doing doordash for living we getting a lot of order from grotto pizza. It doesn't matter how polite or patient you are as a doordasher. they not see you as a human and they thinks they can do and say wahatever they want. i saw most irritating and racist behaviors in grotto's pick up sections. especially at West Bethany and Millsboro stores. As a doordasher i represent my customer we are not beggers or thieves.i m driving 12 hours in a day for getting that stupid attitude? As i see its Grotto's General Policy because same attitude in different store's pick up-delivery sections. me and a few friends joined to survey for complaining specific stuff.The number of people who treated us badly in the store was two, but suddenly the whole department started behaving badly. The only reason I accept orders from this store is to tell the customers what's going on and they recommend another pizza place.
