Suraya appeared on my timeline as a suggestion of places to eat in Philadelphia. Well I'm glad it did. It was a fantastic foodie experience. In case you all don't know, Suraya is a Lebanese restaurant serving some very tradition and unique dishes. When you walk in, you are greeted by a massive chandelier in the center of what looks like a family dining room. There is a barista to the right to get coffee or tea or mezzo- style dishes of hummus, taboule, and more. On to the stars of the show- THE FOOD. First up was the Fattouch. This is a salad with raw vegetables served in a lemon-pomegranate vinaigrette along with a warm, toasted pita that was served in a brown paper bag. It also had fresh mint on top which gave it a very nice flavor. 5/5 Next were the main dishes: Samke Harra- is grilled branzino filet. It was excellent. It was light and crispy with the perfect char. Underneath, was a spicy sauce of red peppers, walnuts, pine nuts, cilantro, and parsley. You have to get this. CHEF's KISS. 5/5 The Samke Al Malouf was a grilled king salmon kabob. The salmon was juicy and had an amazing aroma. It was coated with shallots, crispy potatoes, chilis, herbs, and farro tarator. It was beautifully plated and paired will with the rice and salad. The Kafta Kebab was the next thing I tried. This is served with charred onion and pepper as well as humous. The ground beef was seasoned very well, as was all of the food. The touch of mint with this dish was a great addition. Don't be mad at me y'all, but I can't remember the name of the dessert, but it had bananas in it and pomegranate. It was wonderful. Bananas have a very distinct and unique taste, but you could not tell this was made with banana at all. When you go, ask your server about this dessert item. I'm not sure if it's new because it's not on the online menu. 5/5 I'm happy Suraya showed up on my timeline. It was an excellent choice for dining. TIl we eat again .....

I have been here for dinner, brunch, dessert and drinks in the dining area and for just drinks in the outdoor courtyard during summer. This time we visited their marketplace just to have the lebanese chai latte and pastries. I have been eyeing the rose pistachio cruller since the beginning of time and finally made it out to Suraya on a Saturday morning. Their pastry case is a delight to look at. So many scrumptious pastries makes it so difficult to choose! We got a couple of chai lattes, rose pistachio cruller, chocolate halva croissant and the pistachio kouign amman. I love baked goods - I go to every pop up, farmers' market, I am the kind of person who will travel to another city or country just to try their baked speciality so trust me when I say that these are one of the best pastries I have had. Everything was perfectly balanced and tasted exactly like it should - the rose pistachio cruller was an exquisite mix of rose fragrance and pistachio flavor while the pistachio kouign amman had a distinct pistachio flavor to it. Surprisingly and fortunately so, their pastries are not overwhelmingly sweet as is the case with many middle eastern desserts like baklava. For me, a lot of the flavors seemed very familiar and reminiscent of sweets back home. Suraya never disappoints!

One of my favorite restaurants in Philly! Absolutely love all of their dishes. We have come here several times already and faves are always their dips with pita and the yellowtail tartar is sooo good. They offer a tasting as well if you would rather do that than à la carte. Garden seating is amazing if the weather is nice but their interior is beautiful too. Service has always been excellent as well! Can't recommend it enough and we will definitely we back.

Suraya is a nice brunch spot with interesting drinks. It's a very interesting and nice atmosphere. Service is really good and the staff is super nice. The brunch menu has items for the table and then we all pick a main meal. The dips and sauces along with the pita were all really nice. I ordered the lamb kebab and it was well flavored. Overall good food. Would be back

All I can say is that the food is amazing! The ambience, the service, everything. Highly recommended. We will definitely come back!

Suraya has been on my list for years, and it finally happened! My husband took me here for Valentine's Day brunch, and it truly lived up to the hype. Reservations are a must. We did the tasting menu ($42 per person) and also added the pastry basket. Highly recommend doing both. Everything was amazing, from the spreads to the main dishes. High-quality ingredients, so fresh and full of flavor. The pita bread comes out hot and freshly baked (so good). The lamb kabab was tasty and well-seasoned. The chicken kabab was a little dry, but still okay. The pastries are a must. You really can't go wrong, but my favorites were the olive oil cake, donut, and sticky bun. Ambiance-wise, the place is huge with plenty of space, making it perfect for any occasion, brunch, date night, celebrations, you name it. The inside is very cute, aesthetic, and beautifully designed, warm and inviting without feeling crowded. Service was excellent! very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, I'm very impressed. This spot absolutely lives up to expectations, and I can't wait to come back.

Decided to celebrate a birthday with the tasting menu at Suraya, a Lebanese restaurant in Fishtown, and it was definitely the move. We got seated promptly at the corner of the bar, which felt like the perfect mix of intimate and social. For drinks, we got the enchanted forest, a vodka & blood orange cocktail, the poet, a gin cucumber drink with a za'atar garnish, and the golden belt, a spiced gin & turmeric cocktail. All were very yummy, no notes. On to the Mezza: Little shareable dips are probably our favorite genre of appetizers. We sampled hummus, baba ganoush (charred eggplant), muhummara (roasted red pepper walnut dip), labneh (yogurt dip with zaatar and cucumbers), toboulé (parsley salad), rakakat (fried cheese with lemon dill dip), and kibbeh nayyeh (raw lamb tartar). These were all delicious. Our two favs were the hummus and toboulé. Mains: djej meshwi, a whole grilled chicken marinated in garlic sumac and lemon, with a side of charred potatoes. Kawarma, slow roasted lamb with cucumber, pomegranate, and yogurt. Both were super tender and delicious. Not gonna lie, dessert was definitely a miss for us. Don't remember the names but we got two ice creams, a banana chocolate chip, and citrus pistachio. Not our style, but could definitely be someone else's! All in all, it was a fantastic meal. A must if you find yourself in Fishtown.

Brunch at Suraya was an absolute treat from start to finish. The meal kicked off with a spread of four different dips and a salad, and my favorite by far was the roasted red pepper dip -- bold, smoky, and hard to stop eating. For the main, I had the grilled branzino, which was perfectly cooked over a charcoal grill and paired with a delicious spicy sauce that had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. And don't sleep on the pastries. Seriously. Just make sure you save room, because they're worth it. One of those brunches that feels thoughtful, indulgent, and completely satisfying.

As I type this, it's 5 hours since our res and I'm still full! Over the course of two hours, we enjoyed so much food. I was surprised by how large the mezze portions were. They were delicious and I probably shouldn't have eaten so much of it- but who can resist hot fresh pita and yummy dips? Clearly not me. As it was, I was still able to enjoy my bronzino and my hubby had the short rib. We could only eat half of the kunefe, which was delicious and has become one of my favorite desserts Thankfully, they do space out the courses. Sitting at the chef's counter is fun- it's an amazing hive of activity. Our server in food runners were sweet as well. No wonder this place is a Fishtown staple.

Wow what a phenomenal dining experience! The enchanted forest from the cocktail list was refreshing and light. We had a group of 8 and had the tasting menu so we all got to try a little of everything. It was all delicious. Really enjoyed the samke nayyeh (yellowtail), taboule, baba ganoush, kebabs, and the three desserts that were included. My favorite dessert was the vanilla apricot vacherin. Our server was fantastic and made great drink recommendations! One of my favorite restaurants in Philly - would highly recommend!

Honestly the best brunch I've EVER had! Suraya is a must-visit!! When I think of brunch, Suraya is the first restaurant to come to mind. Their brunch is so unique and perfect if you love Mediterranean food! Service is always very friendly! For $42, you get a variety of dips, fresh pita, and an entree! The dips are all phenomenal with my personal favorite being the Muhammara. The pita is always served so warm! I ordered the Turkish Eggs for my entree, which had the perfect amount of flavor between the dill and Aleppo butter. To drink, I highly recommend the Lebanese Chai Latte! The chai mixed with turmeric is perfection. You also cannot miss their pastries! The Rose and Pistachio Cruller is out of this world. Please believe the hype and make a reservation for brunch!!

Suraya was a beautiful taste and ambiance experience all together. The service was friendly and welcoming upon coming in with our reservation and being seated. I enjoyed an orange blossom tea to start and then had wonderful pastries like the cruller and sticky bun to share with the table. The decor was amazing as a way to look around while I was enjoying company And the food. The mezze plate has wonderful tastes of hummus and taboule with a lot of other options to offer. My whole table left smiling.

We had a great experience at this Lebanese restaurant, especially thanks to the excellent service. We did the tasting menu for five people and added the rib eye, which came out perfectly cooked at a true medium rare. The tasting menu portions were generous and everything we tried was very flavorful. We ordered so much food that we definitely had leftovers to take home. I ordered the Lovers espresso martini and wasn't a fan since it tasted more like sweet ice cream than coffee, but I swapped it for a regular espresso martini which was much better. Our server Erin was incredibly attentive and friendly and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the night. The ambiance was intimate and was a super packed night on a snowy Friday night. There was a small hiccup at the end when we realized we were only given about half of our leftovers, so we had to come back for the rest. While the tasting menu included desserts that couldn't be packed to go, they were kind enough to let us take a different dessert home, which we appreciated. Overall, great food, warm service, and a place we'd happily return to. Among our group of 5, 4 drinks, tasting menu for 5, and a couple added dishes, it came to about ~$123/person and we added $100 tip for the holidays! Thank you Erin and the team!

Is there a corkage fee for byob?

They didn't charge me anything to open my bottle.

Are the kids under 5 allowed?

I've seen infants there so I'd assume yes. Would recommend going on the early side just because some of the spaces are tight so you'll probably get a more friendly space.

Is anything in the menu halal?

No, they don't have anything halal in the menu

    When do they serve drinks?

They serve drinks when they are open. It's always on the menu

Are any of the meats Halal or Kosher?

I called the restaurant at 215-302-1900 and the staff confirmed the meat is NOT HALAL.

What is the chef's counter? Is it essentially the bar?

No, it's actually a counter that directly faces the kitchen, so you can watch all of the action! I've eaten there once (out of my 4 times at Suraya), and it was really interesting and kind of fun to see EVERYTHING that goes on! Probably not great if… Read more

    Where is parking?

There's a lot near the outdoor seating area

Do you take walk ins or reservations are must?

    Reservations are currently required!

Are dogs allowed on the outdoor patio during dinner?

Likely not unless a service animal. I would call and ask the restaurant though to be sure!

Which entrance is currently used for pickup orders?

    The main entrance!

It's getting cold, are there heat lamps etc for the garden seating?

    Tons

I tried to make a brunch reservation but only dinner times came up. Is this restaurant taking brunch reservation?

I'm pretty sure they're only doing dinner right now bc of Covid

    What to get?

I recommend going for lunch: Chicken kabob sandwich, baba ganoush and pistachio crueller

My fiance has a nut allergy. Would this be a problem here?

Hi Julia, the waitstaff asks if there are any allergies at the table when they greet you (the staff is all incredible here), and will point out dishes to avoid and dishes that can be altered. It should not be a major issue. My friend has a tree nut… Read more

I have a reservation next week and I'm vegan, is there decent options for me?

They are prepared to accommodate vegan or gluten free. It's a scripted question from the server and they will provide alternative preparations.

    What is keto here?

Nearly any of the dinner entrees can be keto - basically grilled meats and fish with a side of veggies, and the seasonings they use are natural, no sugar, and super tasty.

    Baladi vs abu sayf?

i just had the baladi last week as part of the Taste of Suraya sampler and can tell you it's amazing. you won't be disappointed. i have not had one thing there in my 3 visits that was not outstanding

Is falafel on the dinner menu? I only see it on the lunch menu.

It's just on the lunch menu.

Can one have dinner outside in the garden?

Yup absolutely, there is a family style table in the middle, and then also smaller tables throughout!

    What's the dress code?

Casual! The lighting and the flames from the open kitchen is kind of sexy, though so if it's Date Night, don't be shy to step it up a notch

I knew I could only enjoy a little knibble of each of the delicious salads that were initial placed on the table. I think I ate all the twice-cooked eggplant. It was so good! The hummus is honestly the best I've ever had, and the laffa bread is such a yummy accompaniment. I had to stop myself from eating too much! I tried the Phyllo-wrapped Haloumi. It was ok, but I liked my dad's Freekeh Arancini better. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder is the reason I had to pace myself. This is also one of my favorite lamb dishes that I've ever had. The greens are a nice accomaniment. I didn't care for the crispy rice, and it was the only thing I didn't like. I got the Pecan Konafe for dessert and it was like an exotic pecan pie. Love this! The second I knew I was visiting Philly, I set a reminder on my phone to vie for a reservation. We got a 9:30pm reservation, which was late for my usual dining habits but absolutely no question worth the extra few hours to build up and appetite and anticipate going to such a renowned restaurant. We were met with a beautiful dining room and kind, passionate people at Zahav, especially our bartenders, who made our experience a true EVENT, describing each dish to us even as we were making decisions on the tasting menu, and vouching for the fact that we MUST try the halloumi, which ended up being my favorite dish! Wow, the care that is put into the craft of this food is unreal. Zahav is a true celebration of cuisine. We started with the laffa bread being served straight out of the fire with accompaniments which were absolute flavor bombs, especially the eggplant and pickled cabbage. The bread was warm, soft, and so flavorful in itself but made even better by the hummus-tehina, which was perhaps the smoothest I've ever had. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder fell right off the bone, and the Amba-braised Greens and Crispy Persian Rice were side dishes that felt like main events in themselves -- the crispiness of the rice perfectly complemented the pomegranate sauce of the lamb. This was the perfect celebration dinner, and Zahav quickly made it to the top of my list of places that live up to their hype and go above and beyond in the kindness realm.

During my wife's and my time there, they never had an empty table that wasn't being quickly cleared for a waiting party, and we heard people assigned considerable waits when they tried to walk in. I give the benefit of the doubt that the hectic, holiday-adjacent nature of the day we went in contributed to us not receiving mugs for the tea pot we ordered or some of the longer waits between waitstaff visits. But the food and atmosphere? Through the roof. We were fortunate enough to have scored the coveted front window seating section, a luxuriously spacious and cushioned special seating option that only one party at a time can enjoy (all other seats are traditional chair-and-table arrangements), so we were especially high on the subject of atmosphere, but even had we not secured the ideal seating, I would have enjoyed the chill, evocative music coming from the restaurant's speakers. The food was the main event, of course, and it delivered. We started simple, with a hummus app. The humus was great and the flatbread really stood out - ideal density, great, light crispness to the outside, soft but at no risk of being too chewy or doughy on the inside. I ordered the salmon dish, which arrived in a big, black sizzling iron bowl. The salmon and tender little potato chunks were in a shakshuka-like red sauce and paired excellently with the plate of rice, fresh raisins, garlic slivers, and carrot bits that accompanied it. I honestly don't love raisins, but this was clearly a "have faith in the recipe" situation and I really enjoyed when they would assert themselves a bit against the sauce. My wife ordered a falafel salad platter, which she was kind enough to let me try; best falafel I've eaten in a good number of years, and she agreed (which means even more than my endorsement, since she falafel much more frequently than I do). I've eagerly recommended Malooga to friends and associates since and can't wait to get back and order some lamb!

The owners are welcoming and super amenable and make you feel like you're coming home every single time you visit. It's in a odd location, and you may feel like you are making a questionable life decision as you walk up the alley to the door, but when you arrive, you realize that in fact, it was one of the best decisions you've made in years!! When you enter, it's like you've been transported to a beautiful room in Morocco. The music, the decor, even the authentic seating make for an unforgettable experience. And if you get really lucky, you also get to see the belly dancers who are top notch! There is not a single thing I can think of to say that Marrakesh needs to improve. It is a one of a kind experience that I feel everyone should have at least once in life!

What an incredible experience and much better than our last visit almost 7-8 years ago. The last…read moretime we came, the AC was broken on a hot day in the summer and it completely turned me off despite having an amazing visit my first time. I'm so glad my friends wanted to come here to celebrate our Friendsgiving. The food was as good as I remembered , the service as ever warm and welcoming. Since I hadn't been for so long, I ate everything as was prepared - but I'm happy to hear it sounds like they have veg options on their tasting menu. I'm looking forward to trying that my next return. But I couldn't say no to their chicken after almost a decade I highly recommend checking out this business for a delicious family style cooked meal.

We went to Laser Wolf for dinner over the weekend; we had reservations but were running late due to…read moretraffic; texted them and they were very nice to extend the reservation. Once we got there, we were seated immediately; the restaurant was pretty full at the time. They have kind of semi fixed menu with Hummus w/Fresh Pita and desert included; you just pick the entry from the grill. For the pita/hummus, you get a plate of fresh pita and a large varieties of small plates for dipping, all of them unique and delicious. For the grill items, we picked chicken, Whole Dorade and Shawarma-spiced Cauliflower. The chicken is grilled well and tasty; the fish is very fresh and the cauliflower well spiced. For desert, we all had Brown Sugar-Vanilla Soft Serve | Strawberry Apricot Sauce, Pistachios, and Rice Pearls; another great entry. Over all, we liked all the entries; the service is also very nice. There is a 20% service charge in lieu of tips and it's well deserved.

The server, I could tell, truly loved his job. He was personable, knew everything there is to know about the menu. Gave suggestions and actually had a conversation w/ us w/in reason. He made it seem like we were the only ones he was serving that night. We even received an "on the house" a glass a wine to pair with our meal. I felt the birthday energy and love. The folks next to me even were chatting us up. The food is delicious! Taken right from the grill to our table. Chicken appetizer is fireeeeee! The chicken shishik and Romanian beef kebab hit the spot. I was thinking the portion size could be some what bigger but I was surprisingly full after I was done the dessert. Also the brown sugar vanilla taste better (Personal preference) than the tehina soft serve. Presentation and politeness was met. Overall great experience.
