Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. -Shrimp Kadaifi - Very good. Crispy, flavorful, and a great starter. -Charred Octopus - A must-order dish. Extremely tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. -Lamb Ribs - Another standout item. The meat was incredibly tender and practically melted in your mouth. -Filet Mignon Kebab - Very good. Tender, well seasoned, and cooked perfectly. -Chilean Sea Bass - Flaky, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. -Lamb Chops - Cooked perfectly medium rare and paired with amazing layered potato fries. Easily one of the best dishes of the night and another must-order item. -Braised Short Rib - Served with dill bao buns and pickled onions. I had the opportunity to visit Greece for the first time a few years ago, and while I always liked Greek/Mediterranean food, the trip 'heightened my senses', and I now seek out the food I enjoyed so much during my visit. Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal! read more

I'll be honest, I'm always a little suspicious of places that have vines of fake flowers or selfie setups. I've been to too many restaurants that are more style than substance, restaurants that focus on decor and vibes and being a scene and lose focus on food and service. Almyra definitely has created a vibe. There are faux bougainvillea vines that make you think of Greek isles. And there is a large mirror for selfies are you walk in. There's fun music. Like I said, it's a vibe. But the food and service were still very good, and that makes all the difference. When solo dining, sometimes I'll over order a bit so that I can try more things and enjoy the leftovers at home, so I ordered one dish from their mezze, one from their raw dishes, and one from their salads. My mezze - wagyu dumplings - was delicious. The filling was delicious and the yogurt was a perfect accompaniment. My raw dish - Lavraki (sea bass) ceviche with tomato, feta, and gigante beans - was great; it was bright and acidic (loads of lemon) and interesting (I'd never had a ceviche like it - being more familiar with Latin and Central American ceviches - feta and gigantes!). My salad - romaine with dill, feta, and crispy phyllo - was also good, simple but bright and delicious. I sadly didn't have room for dessert (after all, much of my salad and two dumplings were in a to go container already), but I had a cappuccino to end my meal. Honestly the experience here was so good that I'm struggling to come up with the words to describe it. Walking in, you're immediately greeted with an atmosphere that provides comfort and glamor at the same time. The inside of the restaraunt is absolutely gorgeous! They do have a dress code on certain days (check their website for more details) so be sure to pay attention to that! We visited on a Monday evening around 7 o'clock and did not have a reservation, but were promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. The food was amazing! We started our meal with the tuna crispy rice and charred octopus, which were both very fresh and delicious. We also split the romaine salad which was as herby and refreshing. We were sat and the corner high top table behind the massive and beautiful bar. At 5pm the bar was packed with people getting their happy hour on. We tried a variety of happy hour food items from the crispy tuna rice (pretty good flavors! was a bit greasy), salmon kebobs (flavorful but mine was a bit overcooked), crab wonton (would have preferred more of a crab flavor was overpowered by dill), lamb rib (good flavors), Saganaki (flaming cheese! fun but expected more flavor) and the 3 spreads (Santorini fava with saffron and crispy capers, the whipped feta with jalapeño and radish and edamame hummus with tahini and garlic confit - all of them are fantastic) I also tried two happy hour drinks the drink of the day (which was a gin gimlet) soooo good and a daquiri (pineapple and rum doesnt get much better than that!). We had an excellent experience here for my sister's birthday dinner. We had a large party and requested to sit as close to the bar as possible, it being her 21st ;) They put us at the biggest table right near the bar area so we were already grateful when we sat down. Our waitress (I believe here name was Alex) was amazing. She was kind and attentive even with our loud and opinionated party. She took a picture of our table, answered all our questions, and never made our group feel like a burden. They treated the birthday girl like a true special guest, sparklers, happy birthday dessert, and a champagne toast. Truly a five star dinner and experience! My family and I came here with a 5:30 pm reservation before catching a show down the street. We were seated quickly and took in the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant that completely took you away from the city outside. My dad ordered some drinks based off of the servers recommendations and loved both of them. We went into the dinner expecting to be sharing a lot of menu items, and I definitely recommend trying this strategy as well when coming to Almyra! To start we chose 3 spreads: Smoked Eggplant, Edamame Hummus, and Beet. All the spreads were delicious, each of us having different favorites. Our server also came by with more pita bread to help us finish off the spreads. Next, we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, two kebabs (filet mignon and shrimp), and two sides (grilled vegetables and layered potato fries). Everything was brought out at once, which I appreciated, and looked beautiful. We all loved every single bite and had no complaints. The biggest shock to all of us was how much we loved the Horta that came with the sea bass. I am a big vegetable lover, so when I pointed this out my family thought I was just being me, but after they tasted it too they were scraping more onto their plate. We were seated right away, we did have reservations, and was notified twice.. once to confirm and update on dress code, second was an update our reservation was in 30 mins. I can't even remember the names of the items but we had a flaming fried cheese which was good if you ate it before it got too charred on the bottom. Also had the fried shrimp which was excellent along with the dill sauce. For my entree I ordered the lamb chops with potato stacks. The lamb was a little fatty and not as tender as I would have like but I'm thinking it's due to the thickness of the cut. Good flavor though. We started with the shrimp Kadaifi, and let me tell you, that was the biggest and freshest shrimp I've had in a while. So good. The duo tartare was also solid. Now the lamb chops--chef's kiss. I usually don't like lamb because it's too gamey for me, but these were perfectly cooked, super tender, and seasoned so well that I didn't even need sauce or salt. I came here on a Saturday night for dinner and had a great experience! To drink, I ordered the Pathos cocktail (vodka, passionfruit, honey, lemon). It was super passionfruit-forward and refreshing. I wasn't feeling super hungry so I just got a trio of spreads as my main meal. I went with the Santorini Fava (saffron, crispy capers), Smoked Eggplant (peppers, za'atar, balsamic), and Edamame Hummus (tahini, garlic confit). They were all delicious, but my favorite was the Edamame Hummus. They came with pita bread and spiced rice crackers (the rice crackers in particular were super yummy!) For dessert, we split the Dubai Sundae (vanilla ice cream, crispy kadaifi, pistachios, and phyllo) which really hit the spot. Fantastic food! The chicken was the most tender thing I've had. Texturally, it was almost like a perfectly cooked piece of salmon. No stringy, sticky chicken here! TRIED TO DOUBLE CHARGE AND RIP US OFF!! Let me set the scene: Dinner meeting for ten, anticipation high for what we had heard were Almyra's culinary masterpieces. And indeed, the appetizers were divine, and the main courses exquisite. The waiter said the restaurant cannot do separate checks but will separate the food and liquor into 2 separate checks, which he did. However, our experience was tragically marred by a service so egregious, it destroyed the entire evening. The trouble began when the bills arrived. We were presented with two separate checks: one for food totaling $506.00 and another for liquor for $241.00. The situation became highly confusing when the waiter contradicted his own policy. After stating that separate checks were not permitted, he issued an individual bill of $88.00 to one of our guests without our knowledge, which she then settled. However, the waiter failed to acknowledge this pre-payment. Instead of adjusting the presented food and liquor bills to reflect the $88.00 already paid, he presented the full amounts for food at $506.00 and liquor at $241.00, effectively attempting to collect the entire $88.00 again. He never once communicated that a portion of the bill had already been settled. The waiter's attempt to collect an overpayment without disclosure was simply unacceptable. Only when the guest said she had already paid her portion of the bill did the waiter acknowledge her payment of $88.00, when we asked him to recalculate the bills he refused, leaving us to try to figure out the new amount on our own. Keep in mind the restaurants charge 20 percent gratuity for large parties, and the guests must do the work of calculating the bill. Total Bill Before Credit: $747.00 ($506.00 food + $241.00 liquor) Pre-payment Credit: $88.00 Actual Amount Owed: $659.00 The result was an embarrassing and frustrating confrontation at the end of what had otherwise been a delightful meal. While the food and ambiance at Almayra's are undoubtedly worth recommending, the service we received was a stark and disappointing contrast. "The waiter's oversight--or deliberate omission--trying to double-dip and collect the $88.00 twice left a bitter taste that no amount of exquisite cuisine could fully erase. Obviously, we will not be going back to Almayra where management and the waitstaff try to overcharge large parties and literally rip off the customer. If you are a large party, you need to check your bill carefully because you may become a victim of overcharging and downright thievery. Stay away from this one. Instead, go to their other restaurant, Estia, which is exceptional, provides great service, and does not try to overcharge large parties. - STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE! read more

Came here on a date and my partner picked it after looking up some reviews online. Safe to say it didn't disappoint. My review is a little late so I don't remember the name of everything (drinks) we had but everything was at least a 9/10. It was a very cute spot as well and the server was very helpful with helping us choose dishes. This is definitely more on the cute/intimate/romantic side and we will definitely be back! read more

Limited cocktail menu but the ones we had were delicious. We got three spreads with pita and chips: spicy feta, beet and edamame hummus. The spicy feta was a clear winner!! Lemon chicken with basmati rice was cooked to perfection. On the other hand, the Lobster pasta was bland and boring so I wouldn't recommend it. Unfortunately, the Budino was the most disappointing part of our meal. I was looking forward to the dessert but it was way too sweet with too much caramel - had to take a sip of water after each bite. We ended up leaving it half eaten and I have never in my life left a dessert on the table.
