    Lamb Gyro Sandwich
    Jenny K.

Wanted to try this place every time we passed by (sucked in by the creative name/logo) and finally did.. but was disappointed. Favorite thing was the waffle fries. Had better gyro at many other places including food trucks. Ordered the lamb, falafel, and chicken gyros (2 each) with a side of waffle fries, sides of tzatziki, and their special sauce. Service: We ordered takeout and were supposed to get 6 sides of tzatziki sauce since it came with each of our 6 gyros. We only got 3 and they also forgot to include the house mustard sauce.. so we walked back. The restaurant was empty and only had one dine in customer. When we brought up the issue, the worker seemed reluctant to give us the missed sauces. Also I think they gave us the typical mass produced bottled honey mustard instead of the house mustard... but if that was supposed to be the original... I'd be more disappointed Interior is dimly lit and workers are not welcoming. The meat/falafel in the gyros were dry; preferred the lamb over the other two. I'm willing to try their gyros again- maybe it was an off day. I'd definitely go back for the waffle fries though (which is probably from a frozen package).

Lovely meal, friendly staff. and love the casualness. The pork belly and all the ingredients seem fresh, and the peach tea imported from Greece and a slightly different mint flavor that I enjoyed and never had before. A nice stopover very close to Franklin Institute. I thought Franklin Institute's food would not be good if they had any for the evening and I was hungry and early. So, I came here first. I think I have seen another one of these places near Fishtown but this I believe is the original location. Very friendly staff here.

Enjoyed a good lamb gyro. Portion sizes are huge, shared a plate with the Mrs and it was just right.

Fast food Greek place with lamb and chicken gyros. Very good and tasty. The dips are also good as they come with pita bread. Good place to get a gyros sandwich.

Wilted red leafs in an otherwise amazing Greek Salad

I think this place has amazing food and the creamiest feta cheese. Just amazing. HOWEVER I would so prefer the Greek salad with romaine or at least no red leaf wilted droopy lettuce. What a disappointment mixed in with the delicious feta, red onion, olives, and so/so tomatoes. Plus the leaves are huge - even the greens. I would love the greens and romaine. Not the wilted red - please?!?!?

    Dolmades and Tzatziki

Stopped in here for lunch during our weekend visit in Philly and was very impressed. First off, I'm not sure if they're the owners or just who was working that day, but the staff was incredibly friendly. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and advised to grab a menu, a table, and to come back to the counter when we were ready to order. I went with the Dolmades, an absolute favorite, and a Mediterranean bowl with rice, chicken, chickpeas, cucumber, tomatoes, tzatziki, and goat cheese. It came with its own side of pita and was packed with SOO much flavor (dove in too quickly and forgot to snap a pic). Absolutely delicious. My fiancé ordered a lamb gyro which came proper - with fries inside - and a side salad, which he also thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant, although on the intimate side, still feels open and inviting. We very much enjoyed our meal here and recommend stopping in if you're in the area.

I stopped here with my mom and friend yesterday afternoon for a quick lunch while in the city. It is a small place with some tables. Plenty of tables were available when we walked in. My mom got the falafel sandwich and my friend I split the falafel entree. There was definitely enough to share, considering we did not want to have any leftovers, as we would be continuing our day in the city. To start, all the food was fresh and delicious. The pitas were soft, the feta was creamy, and the tzatziki was tasty. I would need to come back here to try more things before adding another star, but I would definitely recommend giving Moustaki a try if ou are in the area!

We came this area for the museum and wanted to have a quick lunch so we chose this place after reading some reviews. We easily found a street parking and ordered Lamb Gyro with Tzatziki and Veggie Sandwich. The service was pretty quick. Lamb was soft and flavorful, and tzatziki sauce was also balanced and refreshing. But, the pita bread for the veggie sandwich soaked all the juices from the sautéd veggies, which became messy as I ate. My only concern was the price. I understand the recent inflation, but the Lamb was $12, veggie was $11, and 3 bucks for bottled soda drinks. The quality of the food was great, but the portion was also pretty small so you might need a side dish.

Tasty and affordable! My gyro meat was juicy and well seasoned. The spicy feta dip was bomb. I loved that it came with cucumbers for dipping. The best part though was the waffle fries! I got delivery but they were still hot and crispy. So delicious. I wish there was more veggies on the actual gyro. I also thought the tzatziki was a little bland. Make sure to order extra pita if you get a dip because they gave like 4 triangles for a cup of dip.

After two years of seeing this place, I finally decided to give it a shot. I got the falafel platter with lemon potato and roasted vegetables while my boyfriend got the falafel gyro with waffle fries. The falafel was just okay. It didn't taste/look like falafel honestly. Each bite was super hard/overcooked and very VERY bland. I pretty much dunked a whole lot of Tzatziki on it to give it a little bit of flavor, but it was very underwhelming. The lemon potato's were so so as well. Not much flavor again, yet a little tooo acidity from the lemon. The roasted vegetables were probably the best thing on the platter. The falafel gyro was okay as well, but again bland because of the falafel. It also came with curly fries and not waffle fries, but that's completely a-okay with me! The chicken skewer was good, but a little dry. We also ordered the Nutella Loukoumades which was probably the best thing out of everything we got. Not too sweet yet reminded me of funnel cake minus the powdered sugar.

I came here for a quick stop one night with friends! The service was rapid and the food was hot and good. It's a casual place where you can order at the counter or take out. I just got a skewer which came with a salad and tzatziki. I didn't expect that! I thought it was just going to be a stick! I also got the fried zucchini and eggplant with tzatziki but i don't think there was any eggplant so i was kinda bummed about that! I didn't finish it all so I got a takeout container and brought it home. My friends got gyros and they were a decent size and I tried my friends chicken gyro and it was delicious with fries inside! I'd come back for a quick bite.

It took a while for the waitstaff to get drink/appetizer orders to us once placed, but I think our large party was the issue and there was only minimal staff at the bar. My Greek Island Iced Tea was meh along with the Greek Cosmopolitan my wife got. The Greek beer and wines were nice to experience. At our table, there were many different dishes. The waitress advised they were out of one item on the vegetarian menu. My dad and his wife picked out others and did you know that a true Greek salad doesn't have lettuce? Our waitress told us that and my dad said that was true when they visited Greece. So they must know what's up! My family and I shared a combo cold appetizer which was several spreads (some spicy!) on pita of which we had to order more of. Only one of the spreads did we absolutely hate. They called it caviar but it was mayo in consistency and looks. The hummus was nice, tzatziki was loved, and the garlic potato was SUPER garlic. My main dish of octopus was quite nice and I wished was a bit larger. Octopus with lettuce tomato and onion in oil. Tasty. My wife and kid had lamb shank and lamb roast. Both were delicious and tender. My friends got the cheese on fire tableside and a lot of calamari which was also well liked. Our waitress was wonderful and on top of things. She was able to split the check three ways and got well deserved tips. The restaurant itself is a little cramped as it's in a former residence, but you can get around. If you're in the mood for Greek food, I don't think you'll go wrong at Zorba's Taverna. $180 including tax and tip for three adults. Two cocktails, a beer, tea, combo appetizer, three mains, and a dessert to go.

Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal!

The sashimi itself was underwhelming, but the wasabi, ginger, and seaweed added much needed flavor. I also tried the salad, which included sweet beets that weren't mentioned on the menu. The description said roasted, but I couldn't taste that at all. If anything, it tasted more like sweet and pickled flavor. I ordered the Ciuppin next. The server warned me it would be spicy, but it arrived almost completely bland. I had to ask for extra black pepper just to get some flavor. The mussels and shrimp were very good, but the pasta / sauce ratio was off. There wasn't nearly enough sauce to coat the pasta, which left the dish lacking flavor. From the photo, it looks like the sauce would cover everything, but once you start mixing it, you realize it doesn't go far at all. Then I ordered the warm apple cobbler for dessert. I was expecting something baked and comforting. Instead I received uncooked oats mixed with cooked apples and a scoop of ice cream on top. Why is this called warm apple cobbler on the menu? And why didn't they explain in the description that this contains uncooked oats in every bite? I was so disappointed because I don't eat oats and certainly would not have ordered this if I would have known. It resembles a breakfast granola bar rather than a cobbler. It felt lazy and misleading. I paid for my meal using my phone. After I left a tip and completed the transaction, the server told me, "We usually don't accept anything less than 18%," and pointed out that what I left was much lower than what they expect. Then she walked away without another word. Even though the menu clearly states that only applies to parties of six or more. I was dining alone. Tips are earned, and honestly, the food wasn't that good, especially not after being served a trail mix dessert pretending to be cobbler. I was surprised she questioned the amount I chose to leave for a solo meal, especially after everything was already processed. I shouldn't have left anything at all. Tipping is optional, and the experience just didn't earn more.
