Service was great! Our waitress was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Every single plate was presented beautifully. The drinks were also so good and well balanced. The waitress also included a scoop of gelato with our desserts! Would definitely return to try other dishes!

Walking through the front entrance you are welcomed in and enter the luxe bar area, well stocked to make all sorts of tasty cocktails by a skilled mixologist at the bar. Beyond that is the dining area and open patio that connects to the kitchen shared with Ambra. Cocktail menu features unique combinations. Tried the 'last bastion for cowards' and it was smooth, herbal, with a subtle sweetness: very interesting mix of tequila, carpano antica, crème de cacao, and rabarbaro. (Rhubarb amaro liqueur) Dinner started with a small cup amuse bouche of cucumber mint purée soup, a nice refresher before any courses. Next was Mahi crudo - very tender fish with fennel and dill, along with tart and sweet flavors from the kiwi and strawberry. Mains of beef with semolina dumpling, spinach. Great flavors with veg / dumpling and beef pieces. Dessert was a soft and creamy ginger mascarpone mousse: just the right amount of sweetness, and topped with sugar 'honeycomb' to add great texture. Great courses and experience here, a much more casual version of Ambra with all the same skill and quality. Thanks

The environment of the restaurant was incredibly inviting and calming. The food is amazing with a comforting feeling. The cocktails were great as well. I was happy they start you off with a good tasting small soup. The soup sets a warm tone for the rest of the dinner. The service did not feel rushed and my friends and I at the dinner were able to have a nice meal.

This restaurant is on the fancier side and usually requires a reservation so the food is pricey. The ambiance is nice but it was a bit too dim so it was hard to see at times. We were sat immediately with a reservation and the servers were nice. Lamb Confit 3/5: The lamb was tasty and tender but the sauce was too overwhelmingly salty. Pleasant Duck 4/5: The duck was soft and had a crispy edge but there were only 3 small pieces. Some components of the dish were also on the saltier side. Beef Tartare 3/5: The beef tartare was good but the pickle crosnes overpowered the beef tartare as it has a strong pickled taste.

Southwark is the perfect cozy restaurant for a chilly winter night. I gather that there's a backyard as well, so perhaps it's the perfect restaurant for a temperate summer night, too. Good for all seasons! I put Southwark on my Philly list (I'm from Philly but live in NYC) ages ago and I finally made in here with the family during my last visit home. We had a really enjoyable dinner here, everything we tried was solid at the very least, with a few standouts. Overall, Southwark is a versatile spot, great for a refined but unpretentious meal. We came here at 8 on a Saturday night as a party of six. The decor is pretty minimal yet it feels very welcoming and homey, particularly in the back room, which feels as if it could have once been somebody's dining room, with cute little paintings of flora and fauna adorning the walls. After a weekend with family I was eager to find the drink menu, which was one of the many aspects of Southwark that attracted me initially. The cocktail menu is pretty varied, featuring an impressive variety of liquors and flavors profiles. I first got the The Lonely Hunter (Gin, Vermouth Blanc, Eden's Herbal Liqueur), as it was the closest thing to a martini I could see on the speciality cocktail list. It definitely was not giving martini as it turns out, mainly because of the herbal liqueur, which was really lovely and aromatic, it just made the drink a bit sweeter than a martini which is why I am making a point of differentiating it. A great drink to start with. I then got the Shadowboxer (Templeton Rye, Apple Brandy, Amari, Sweet Vermouth), which is an Old Fashioned variation. I was between that and the House of Jealous Lovers (Bourbon, Calvados, Sherry, Cocchi di Torino, Maraschino), a Manhattan variation, which someone else in our party got, and I much preferred that. Mine may have just been a bit watered down. Food-wise, I split everything with my partner to get a larger sampling of the menu. The menu has lots of good options, kind of has farm-to-table vibes and features a ton of seasonal produce which I always appreciate and enjoy. Eats, below: Local Yellowfin Tuna Crudo w/ Napa Cabbage Slaw, Patio Chilis, Sunchoke Miso Vinaigrette, Sunflower Seed Crumble: A Really fresh and delicious preparation. All of the accouterments were thoughtful and complemented one another well. I'll always be ordering a crudo or tartare when I see it on the menu and it's nice to get one that features elements other than a sauce or emulsion. Endives & Beet Salad w/ Roasted Concord Grapes, Pumpkin Seed Purée, Granola, Ginger Vinaigrette: A- Solid salad with great winter veggies. Not an A because the vinegar notes of the dressing, while not necessarily bad, were a bit overpowering. All of the elements were there for a great salad, the balance was just a bit off. Still enjoyable and we didn't regret ordering it. Keiser's Pheasantry Duck w/ Confit Sweet Potatoes & Purée, Local Brussels Sprouts, Fig Leaf Jus: A- Lots of fun stuff going on here - I actually enjoyed the confit more than the duck itself, which was cooked medium instead of medium rare, the latter of which I prefer. Still, duck is one of my favorite things to see on the menu, especially in the colder months, and the flavors were everything you'd want in a duck preparation - some sweetness, some earthiness, some saltiness, rich but not heavy. And it was all beautifully presented. NJ Tilefish w/ Cauliflower & Lemon Purée, Charred Fioretto Cauliflower, Shellfish Jus, Wilted Greens, Leeks: A The most memorable dish of the night, loved by everyone at the table who ordered it. The fish itself was cooked perfect, smooth and buttery which was enhanced by the shellfish jus as well as the puree it sat atop of. Delicate yet hearty. Really warming and satisfying, a great plate to end the night on.

It has been a while since I was truly surprised by a restaurant and this was a meal I did not see coming. From the outside, it's a pretty unassuming spot from the outside, sitting next to the sister restaurant Ambra. Admittedly, we would love to try Ambra but the pricepoint for the tasting menu is a bit intimidating so we may ultimately not. When you walk in, it's easy not to realize how big the place actually is. We were seated at a huge table in the back just inside the outdoor seating, which also would have been a nice option. We were not expecting the complimentary amuse-bouch, so that was a nice touch. We started with the warm breads, which came with a fascinating ricotta spread. Next was the whipped pork confit which at first I thought may be a skosh salty but in the end was reminiscent of a nice spreadable pate (that they were nice enough to give us extra bread for). The salad with trout and chili breadcrumbs also started off on the saltier side, but once you mix things together it ends up very well balanced and quite nice. For mains, we went with the lamb shoulder (my favorite of the two) and the tilefish-the latter was the recommendation of the waitress and we were so thankful it was as we probably wouldn't have chosen it but really enjoyed it. The real gem of the experience, however, was the service. It's such a homey vibe and not only was the food quick, but the servers were so delightful at every turn. They even folded our napkins every time once of us stood up, which I hadn't seen at many other non-course restaurants. Truly made for a lovely meal.

What an awesome dinner. Southwark had been on the list for a while and we were finally able to go. Perfect night to dig out back in the courtyard. Cocktails are great and clever. Wine list is small but solid and appropriate for the menu. The beef tartare toast appetizer was great, but the grated horseradish was a little too overpowering to appreciate the tartare. The duck was PERFECT. I say that rarely and it was perfect. Enough fat to want to eat the crisp. Little enough that fat wasn't your entire bite. Perfectly cooked. The chive mezze rigatoni was in a fantastic yet simple sauce, you'd want to drink it. The double cheeseburger was solid but the fries really stole the show. Ended the night with the corn soufflé cake which is both the weirdest and most delicious combination of flavors. So impressed with the meal. Can't wait to come back.

Vibes: intimate, subtle, familiar, classy casual; bring a date or a few friends Tasting notes: - Stop Flying in the House: green tea declares itself first on the sip, just sweet enough; strong but easy to drink - Lonza: thinly sliced, smoky and buttery; great paired with a swipe of the flavorful mustard and a bite of the slightly vinegary pickled sprouts and potatoes; lovely char and thickness to the bread - Duck breast: amazingly crispy skin wrapped around each indulgently tender slice; meatballs bite-sized; shredded radish perfect for picking up the umami-rich brown sauce - Double cheeseburger and fries: on the saltier side because of the blue cheese; excellent char to the patties and ratio of the bun to contents; enjoyed dipping the crispy, skin-on fries of various thickness in the aioli Other thoughts: - Loved the homemade hot sauces (husk cherry jalapeño and peach habanero) on the fries, a great tip from a neighboring table - Fast service - Portion sizes on the lighter side Impression: would love to come back for dinner or even just a drink at the bar!

Quality of the food was impeccable. You can tell they really put thoughts into their dishes. Ambience was interesting, definitely gave a lot of thoughts into curating a specific feel of the place. We felt rushed during our time there, from ordering to transitioning between courses. We wished we had more time in the establishment.

I'd been to Southwark for drinks, but recently had the opportunity to dine there. It's a great place for both! We had the short rib pasta and the scallops. The pasta was very good, and the scallops were some of the best I've had. Of course, a little pistachio gelato and a berry sorbet topped off a great meal!

This swanky, hip place…read moreoffers up elevated tasty food and superb service in an exquisitely decorated, albeit small, cafe. We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

Didn't love the copper sharp cheese that was a bit messy and tangy. I kept thinking they must have added some type of sauce on it. I'd much rather come back for a simple fried egg combo and chedda cheese. I was also offered sparkling water, but I do wish it had more fizz. The service start to finish was superb in friendly and fast service. I'd come back for mimosa/bar for sure.
