We were there for brunch on a Sunday when we were visiting Philadelphia. It was family with four adults, a toddler and an almost one year baby! What a welcoming brunch place with a strong Dutch vibe!! Loved it! They have a large selection of dishes whether you are into Proteins, Carbs or Sugar. I ordered a spinach omelette while the toddler was thrilled to have his double chocolate pancakes! The omelets came with a healthy serving of potatoes and a salad. I ordered toasted Rye bread with my omelet and it was tasty! Very solicitous service and excellent service! Will be back again if I am in Philly again!

Came here for brunch on a Sunday and the wait for 6 was about 40 minutes. Our server was super friendly and accommodating. I got the mustard crisped crab cake benedict and also shared a waffle. The crab cake was a little salty for my liking but the eggs were cooked perfectly. The side salad also added a nice acidity to the meal since the benedict is a bit on the heavier side. I do wish the potatoes were a little bit more seasoned but there is salt and pepper available at the table. The waffle was a bit disappointing because it was not very crispy on the outside. The apple compote was delicious. I probably wouldn't get the waffle again. The restaurant itself has an upbeat vibe, almost diner-like vibe. I would definitely come back again to try other menu items if I'm in the area again.
We loved our visit at Winkel this fall when we were in Philadelphia. I started with one of their mocktails of the day and loved it! Before arriving at the restaurant, I already had a strong craving for a benedict and ended up ordering the Mustard Crisped Crabcake. I've had crabcake benedicts from several different restaurants over the years and the one at Winkel is definitely one of the better ones I've had. The crabcake was perfectly fried, balanced, and seasoned well. At the end of our meal, we had an enjoyable and informative conversation with the owner, and we learned that he previously owned a restaurant in Chicago, where I live.
Winkle is easily one of the best food spots I've been to in Philly. A Dutch place that really knows what it's doing, and absolutely a must-try. I had the daily special, their twist on avocado toast, and it blew me away. Thick pumpernickel bread, creamy avocado, a sunny side egg cooked just right, and the kicker--pickled onion and cucumber slices that tied it all together. My wife ordered the deep-fried bread pudding French toast, which I can only describe as a heart attack on a plate I'd gladly sign up for. Heck, if the heart attack killed me, I'd die happy!! Sweet, rich, but not over the top. Just the right amount. We both walked out super happy, already planning our next visit. This place has the kind of food you think about long after the meal's over. In a word, WOW!!

I was in town with family, and Winkel also hit the mark on having something on the menu that everyone would be able to enjoy for brunch - while also having some interesting, Dutch-style dishes (I always love to try something new whenever possible). We were there at 9:30am on a Sunday and got a table without any wait. Service was prompt, welcoming, and friendly. Brunch dishes came out quickly from the kitchen - and everything was delicious. Special props for the side of pickled items (spicy pickles, house recipe pickles, pickled red onions, and pickled pearl onions) available which includes pearl onions that are pickled in a recipe that includes turmeric. Delicious! Visiting Winkel feels a bit like getting a family meal - and the folks working here seem to truly focus on providing that homey ambience. So happy my family members and I got to try this place on our recent visit to Philly. Highly recommend!
Nothing to write home about. Met a friend for brunch here a few months ago. There was a wait so we put our names on the list and hung out across the street. After about 20min, we went back over and they said we were next on the list. Then they kept seating all these other people - to the point where we were like um I thought we were next on the list? They seemed irritated but they def skipped over us and finally got us sat. Very cute place inside, love the decor! The tables were laid out kind of haphazardly - I only noticed because I recently had ankle surgery and was in a walking boot, and I had to zig zag out of the way to get through the dining room because chairs were slammed up against each other. I got the brisket bennies and also ordered a diet coke. The bennies came out and I still had no diet coke, so I asked the guy who dropped the food off (he wasn't our server). Never got it. My friend had to ask for some condiments and I asked again for the diet coke. Never got it. Finally halfway into our meal, I had to stop someone and finally got my diet coke. The server never came over to our table during our meal to check on us at all - basically just took our order and cleared our plates. The bennies were just ok, they were bland and lacking in any type of seasoning. I liked the potatoes that came with it and the salad was very refreshing on a heavy plate of food. Pretty meh about the whole experience, likely won't be back as I have no reason to go here other than my friend was the one that picked it for brunch.
I did not have a reservation when I walked into Winkel on a late Sunday morning. I was seated immediately at a table for 2. The waitress was friendly and went over items that were not on the menu. I ordered all sides: potatoes/onions, ham, and an English muffin. After I added some salt/pepper to the potatoes they were delicious. My friend ordered the chicken n waffles and left nothing on the plate. Oh! And the coffee was so good- I got a cup to go!
We visited here on a Sunday for brunch around 1:30 PM, minimal wait..about 10 minutes, a party of 3. The service was excellent and the menu selection was great. Prices are reasonable. The decor was nice and seating was comfortable. Everyone enjoyed their food, my favorite were the home fried potatoes. I had the hard cook them to make them extra crispy on the outside and soften on the inside...delicious. I would definitely go back.
Great brunch at Winkel! We had the Benedict and the ham was nice and crispy! Potatoes could've been a little softer but that's okay. Hot chicken sandwich would've been a bit spicier but the chicken itself was good! Would go back because all their other brunch treats looked good too!
Ordered on DoorDash. Food packaged well. So so tasty. Creamed spinach omelette and bacon/blueberry pancakes were are unique items that I do not see on many menus. I want to go back and try so much more.
Ironically this little restaurant was the best meal I had while visiting Philadelphia. The ingredients are fresh and excellent quality. The staff are attentive and not in your face. The food flavors are outstanding. Their house hot sauce is fabulous. Everything we had was amazing. The coffee was average. A bit bitter. I would definitely recommend and return.

Was craving some brunch and stumbled upon this restaurant instead of going to my usual. It was quite busy but had a very fast turnover as soon as people left. They also fill your classes with water before you sit which was a very nice touch on a hot day. Serving sizes are deceptively large - the omelets/fritata were absolutely stuffed. They smoke their salmon in house which was nice little fact to learn. They are also BYOB so you can bring in a wine/champagne if you want a little breakfast cocktail. They have a mocktail of the day (mine was a hibiscus spritz) if you just wanna spice it up. Only downside was that the ac was broken the day but there wasn't much the restaurant could do about that (obviously) so it's not affecting my rating. Just note it can get stuffy on a hot day if it's down. read more

Go for the French toast bread pudding!!!! It was THE highlight. The crab Benedict was very salty. It was the cab patty. I am a bit salt sensitive but it was very salty to me. The fruit was tasty and I enjoyed salad! It was a cute spot for breakfast not far from the hotel. The service was good my coffee cup stayed full. A 3.5 would be my review. Wow! This place is an outstanding brunch place right across from Planned Parenthood (quite an interesting scene outside) in the gayborhood. The place was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. The place is byob which was a pleasant surprise when I discovered it. I told my other girlfriends and we ended up having 2 bottles of wine at brunch. The hostess turned out to be the owner and he was quite friendly. He opened our bottles and told us the specials (the place specializes in Dutch food which was quite an experience). The waitress came by and we placed our orders. I ended up getting the Hawaiian Uitsmijter, which was basically a Dutch open faced sandwich. Honestly, the plate was so stuffed it was my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bread I chose was pumpernickel which was soft and tasted so fresh. On top of the bread was ham, pinapple and Gouda with runny eggs. I added some chili pepper since my Indian scents don't like a nonspicy meal (I know, I ruined the Dutch taste). The ham was nice, juicy, and thick. There was a salad and pickle that came on the side. Honestly, my friends and I had such a blast we ended up staying past closing. The staff was friendly for not kicking us out). We ended up getting last call for dessert. All three of us split the Deep Fried Bread Pudding French Toast. It was delicious. It was so thick and the homemade blueberry jam killed the dish. read more
exceptional brunch spot with delicious and fun food! this was actually my third time at this spot. the first time i was here in oct 2022, i actually found out that my (now)ex had been cheating on me -- but i liked the spot so much that i came back. the most recent time i was here, my friend ordered the hawaiian uitsmijter and i ordered the brisket benedict. we both loved our dishes and savored every last bite. the brisket was tender, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and the portions were generous. i definitely could have taken half of my meal home, but it was so delicious that i couldn't help myself but to finish the plate. service was fast and attentive, no complaints. truly an exceptional brunch spot! read more

In town for the weekend and awesome Yelp reviews led me here! Boy I'm so glad to have stopped in too! Great welcome, great service, great food. I decided to go with the crab omelette. It came plated with potatoes, choice of bread, and side salad topped with pickled red onions and cucumbers. Presentation was just as wonderful as the flavors. My counterpart decided to go with a half order of bread pudding French toast. OMG! So dang good! I think I'll be back tomorrow. Lol. Get yourself here ASAP! read more

This restaurant was a last minute find before heading to the Roots Picnic. I called prior to inquring about reservations, and I spoke one of the hostess, who stated that they were busy, but would still take walk-ins. Centrally located in the Gayborhood, Winkle was in the midst of the Pride festival, that was also taking place that weekend. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were welcomed by the staff, who noticed that we had two bottles of Prosecco (BYOB), and placed them on ice while we had a short wait for our table. Overall, the food was delicious; I will say that the chicken wasn't as seasoned as I would have preferred but the scrapple gravy was definitely a great addition. I enjoyed the BYOB option, which allowed us to enjoy "bottomless" mimosas with our favorite sparking wine. The Salmon was okay, however I wouldn't have ordered it again. Our server was very hospitable and attentive. Overall, I would definitely visit again and order some other items on the menu; I am sure they have a lot of great food choices. This was such a wonderful ending to our weekend trip. Hubby and I needed some breakfast before our 5 hour trip home. Winkel was the closest to our hotel. We walked here and opted to dine al Fresco since it was a gorgeous morning. Our server was super friendly and helpful. I decided on the crabcake Benedict. This was delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached and the crab cakes were seasoned really well. It came with a potato onion hash and a side salad. Hubby ordered the Zuurkool & Eggs. This was the perfect Dutch breakfast, consisted of cabbage, smoked sausage, toast, and carrots. The coffee was very good. We were really impressed by the food, location, and customer service. I definitely like this place. It has a cute and sophisticated vibe on the inside, and the people here are really nice. As soon as we got in, we were seated immediately. The menu is pretty simple and easy to get through. That's something I appreciate because many times I go to places with these large, hard to navigate menus. The food was good. I ordered the Kip Kerrie. If you're going to the gym and trying to bulk up, this is what you wanna get lol. It's so hardy. It consists of brained chicken, potatoes, veggies, eggs, with a side of toast. The only thing I didn't like was I felt it was under salted. All in all, I think I would come back here. read more

Incredible food, view, and service! We were excited to try Winkel after hearing amazing things about their food. We stopped in on a Thursday morning for brunch and ordered the Fisherman's Pancake and Salmon Hash. We let our server know we have an aversion to mayonnaise and the chef came out to talk to us about how he'd be happy to alter the mustard cream to be mayo-free. Both the server and chef were incredibly kind and accommodating. We would have been willing to just select another dish, but luckily we didn't. Both dishes were delicious and they definitely didn't go light on the salmon in either of them! We can't thank the amazing staff enough. We will be back! read more

A spacious brunch restaurant with fun menu items! The décor was simple and the kitchen was open so you can watch your food being prepared. The service was fast and attentive and food came pretty quickly. They don't usually open for dinner, but sometimes have special event for dinner time (an interesting concept). Blueberry cornbread - A special of the day. Cornbread was spicy and crumbly yet moist. Strawberry jam was good in balancing the spiciness of the cornbread. Hawaiian Uitsmijters - A heavy large portion with two slices of bread, ham, pineapple and 2 sunny side up eggs + salad. Salad was light and refreshing. Uitsmijters together was a good mélange of flavours and textures. I think I prefer this over a benny. Lots of food would probably share next time. Partner got the bread pudding French toast, which was also a lot of food. It was really good, but also really filling. Would highly recommend this restaurant. As a tourist of the city, probably would not come back, but as a local would definitely come back to try the other menu items. read more
Solid breakfast in Philly! My brother thought it'd be pretty busy on a Saturday morning, so he got there early to get us a table, but was seated immediately. We split the omelet with asparagus and the blackberry pancakes. I also got a latte. Our server was attentive, the food was great. I have a soft spot for weekday brunch, but Winkel would convert even the stodgiest brunch haters. The menu is expansive, with a good balance of sweet and savory, classic and inventive, hearty and moderate. I'm accustomed to picking between two and three vegetarian options on a menu, but Winkel has so many that it was hard to choose! In the end, I ordered the summer squash omelette which had Brie, caramelized onions, and zucchini. No regrets! My partner got the salmon hash, which was absolutely enormous - easily enough food for two people. No photos because we inhaled our food read more

I don't usually give a 1 star unless absolutely and utterly disappointed. I'll keep it brief. The deep fried french toast had SO much Nutmeg it should be named the Nutmeg french toast. The tofu scramble had too much turmeric - why?! The chef likes his spices too much but doesn't have the know how on which spices works with what food and how much to put it in. We couldn't finish even 25% of the food and I can't remember when was the last time I had wasted food. Ordered a hot and iced mocha - pretty below average. Hot mocha isn't supposed to be so watery. I had brunch at Winkel with my mom and husband a few weeks ago when we were in Philly for a long weekend. My husband is of Dutch heritage, and we were excited to try Winkel! It's a pretty large space (larger than I was expecting), but they don't take reservations and it's very popular - so go early! When arrived close to 9 am on a Sunday, we got a table without a wait. People who arrived closer to 10 had to wait for a table. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. And the service was great (everyone was so friendly). My husband got the fisherman's pancake (a savory pancake with smoked fish - it was salmon when we were there), which he enjoyed, and my mom (who is vegan) got the tofu scramble (which was just okay for her - she said the tofu scramble needed some veggies or something to give it more flavor and variety). I had the zuurkool and eggs (cabbage/sauerkraut, smoked sausage, bacon, two eggs, caraway beer broth), which was OUTSTANDING. Seriously, this is one of the best breakfast/brunch dishes I've had in ages. Granted - I lean very savory (I am not a sweet breakfast girl), but why have I never had such a cabbagy breakfast dish before? I am going to be craving this dish for a while. My friends and I came here for a Sunday brunch around 1:30pm and had a wait of about 15 minutes to get seated outside. We didn't take advantage of the BYO, but we did all get iced coffees as the day was warm. So many things on the menu looked amazing, but I ended up ordering the Sardou Benedict (spinach, artichoke, traditional hollandaise), served with potato & onion hash and salad. The portion size was perfect for me since it was a late brunch and I was hungry! Everything was delicious and really hit the spot. Service was great throughout our meal. I'm excited to come back and take advantage of the BYO and try out some more menu items! read more
