Worth the high ratings. The bread is everything: So fresh, crispy but doesn't hurt your mouth like a baguette, the sesame seeds. Super generous portion. Almost like the Subway footlong but filled to the rim with ribeye. Very very sharable, which is great value unless you are really hungry. The only thing that would have made this meal perfect would have been if they didn't close the box on the waffle fries while hot, which does make them softer than your average, crispy, Chick-fil-a type waffle fries. Super casual but good seating options.
I stopped by with my husband and his mother for a late lunch. We ordered the classic Philly cheesesteak with an order of fries. My MIL ordered a caprese salad. We also got a few of their packaged drinks. The guy taking our order was very nice and there was plenty of seating and it seemed like there was additional seating upstairs, but we didn't have to head up there. The bathroom was nice and clean. As for the food, the Philly cheesesteak was massive, but tasted just okay. It seemed quite heavy on the bread. I think my husband maybe ordered wrong as he should've gotten the cheese whiz or maybe gotten the one with peppers. We've definitely had better cheesesteaks. The waffle fries were fries: tasty and delicious. My MIL's caprese salad was interesting. It was atop a bed of greens which was unexpected. It was also $15 which seemed a little extravagant for what it was. Overall, it was a decent meal and tasty. I'd hit it up for lunch of you're in a pinch and you'd definitely have leftovers for later as well.
This is in my partners top 5 cheesesteaks. While I won't give my opinion on that I will say, they have lots of other options as well and they do make interesting chicken cheesesteaks that are super customizable. They have this really cool beer wall as well.
I ordered two cheesesteaks and chicken wings from Cleavers. The cheesesteaks were excellent, flavorful, and delicious. The wings were amazing, plump, and cooked perfectly. My only complaint was that the cheesesteaks had too much ketchup, which overpowered some of the flavor. Next time, I'll ask for light ketchup. Overall, the food was great, and I would order again.
This place was so delicious I ordered another one for my husband and flew it all the way to Phoenix. No joke it was still delicious 7 hours later! Tip for ordering...you can go up to the counter or go to a computer...but there is another computer off to the left up the stairs! Nice secret computer if you want to get out of the hustle and bustle.

I ended up coming back here twice because the food was just so good! It was a chilly evening both nights. When I walked inside the restaurant, the team had greeted me and asked if it was my first time, which it was! You could order at the Kiosks inside the restaurant, or at the front register. There wasn't anyone ahead of me so I ended up looking over the menu first before ordering. Cleavers offers cheesesteaks, beef, chicken, or veggie. You can also get it in a roll, wrap or bowl. Some of their sandwiches include the following Papa's Favorite Steak The Cleaver Effin Hot Steak Zinger Steak Chicken Cheesesteak Hoagie BBQ Chicken Chicken Parm and so much more! If you're looking for alternatives to the sandwiches, Cleavers does offer salads, Fries, egg rolls, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, desserts and other options! I ended up getting the Cheesesteak Hoagie both nights, but tried different cheeses out. The first night I had the cheese whiz and the second evening I had the Cooper American cheese. I only had the steak and cheese on the seeded roll. I didn't wait long for my to go order, about 10 minutes. The walk back to the hotel was about 5 minutes, but the team at Cleavers wrapped my cheesesteak perfectly! It was still warm by the time I got back to the hotel. There is seating inside the restaurant though on the second level! Cleavers has my favorite cheesesteak. I enjoyed both the cheese whiz and the Cooper American cheese. The steak used was juicy and tender. The sandwich was huge! The Philly cheesesteak restaurants I go to in Vegas don't have seeded rolls, and you can tell the difference! The flavor was just so amazing! If you're local to Philly and craving cheesesteaks, I highly recommend going to Cleavers! The team members are great at the restaurant and the cheesesteaks were amazing!
Absolutely run to Cleavers for a Philly or like I got the Mixed Cheese and it was delicious. Their bread is incredible. The waffle fries with Cheese wiz and the onion rings were perfect. We would come back just for the food. The place is big with and upstairs and downstairs seating options. Service was great and the place is very clean. I highly recommend you go there and try out their food.
Stopped by for a quick ONE POUND ribeye cheesesteak, "The Cleaver", from Cleavers while doing a quick day tour of UPenn and my husband's old apartment and this thing converted me. Never in my life did I enjoy a cheesesteak, not that I've had any good ones, until I tried it here. Our interaction with the staff was short since we ordered the sandwich to-go and dipped. They were quick and friendly and we didn't wait too long for the cheesesteak. The inside did look like a nice, casual spot although I can't speak much about it since we didn't dine in. The cheesesteak itself was absolutely loaded with ribeye and cheese--two kinds according to their menu, Cooper American and Kraft cheese whiz. It was so big and rich that the three of us could barely finish this one sandwich--all for under $30!!! What a deal.

But if you don't want to drive out for that Michelin Bib Gourmand version, which is possibly the best cheesesteak on the planet, this is a great option. Forget Pat's and Gino's both of which long succumbed to the mediocrity of over tourism. The cheesesteak is well prepared and you get a variety of options for toppings. You can do MYO or a variety of packages, in both beef and chicken. I built a basic with sharp provolone and sautéed peppers. It was very good. Service was good, we waited upstairs and then came back down to get the food. They also have a neat "help yourself" beer dispensing system but we didn't try it that evening. There's a few spots to sit. We were generally fine, until a non-customer came in and wanted to use the restroom by where we were seated, then threw up in the trash can, having all the signs and symptoms of suffering from cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. Ambiance is kinda classic diner, with tile floors, and nothing special but decent.
The food came out quickly and me and my husband split the sub because I noticed the sub was huge! We got the Effin Hot Cheesesteak (Spicy) we is exactly what we needed. I've had better subs, but this hit the spot. 2nd floor eating area and bathroom were clean. Note: the self-serve beer wall no longer exists so would recommend the business update the highlights. I was kind of sad to see that it didn't exist here.
I've been to Cleavers several times and the cheesesteaks are always very good. I just discovered they do cheesesteaks in a wrap which is just fantastic. So, I tried one the other day and it's very good. PACKED! Great spot for a cheesesteak if you're by Rittenhouse Square.
Went as we were leaving Philly and this place popped up on Yelp. I got The Cleaver sandwich with peppers and onions, shit was fire. Service was nice as it wasn't too busy inside and we were helped quickly and I appreciate the pagers to let us know when our food was ready.
This was my first official Philly cheesesteak and it did not disappoint . I ordered "the block" and waffle fries through Uber Eats and the food was made so quick and delivered quickly as well. It was still hot and fresh. The meat was tender and there was the perfect amount of peppers/onions/cheese. The sandwich was also HUGE. Overall a great meal and def recommend!
My in-laws brought home a ginormous Philly cheesesteak from Cleavers, and I honestly wasn't expecting to be as impressed as I was. I believe we got the Ribeye Cheesesteak with onions and peppers, and it was hands down one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. Normally, I'm not a fan of seeded bread and I usually don't like peppers either, but somehow everything worked perfectly together. The creamy cooper American cheese, the soft yet crunchy bread and the thinly sliced ribeye made for such an incredible combination. And much to my surprise the peppers actually added a really nice touch and brought everything together. The portion was absolutely massive, but the flavor was so good that it was hard to stop eating it. Definitely a cheesesteak I'd happily have again! read more

This is where I had my first Philly cheesesteak that was actually from Philly and I feel like we chose a pretty good spot! For starters, we were able to order immediately which I feel probably wasn't the case for the spots that have been relentlessly featured on Tiktok. And I love the little kiosks they had, where you could easily customize your order. But since this was my first time, I wanted to keep it simple and as authentic as I could. So we got the beefsteak with onions and a combination of cooper sharp and cheese whiz. The sandwich was huge and easily fed me and my boyfriend. The meat was pretty juicy, and it was so cheesy, I loved it! The bread was also nice and thick, soaking up all the extra cheese. We also got the sweet potato fries, which were also delicious. But I kind of wished they were a little softer on the inside. So yeah, it was all really good. But because the sandwich was so big and cheesy, I quickly got a little too cheesed out. So I think next time, I would either 1) stick to one cheese, probably the Cooper sharp 2) just eat less or 3) add some veggies to the sandwich. read more

Somewhat pricy sandwiches but huge portions! They taste like the average cheesesteak. The restaurant is really big inside and has a lot of seating and is fairly clean. The spicy cheesesteak was honestly not super spicy but was sufficient. read more
This was our first time having cleavers. I'd rate this 3.5 stars however my other half did pick this up and then had a half an hour drive home so had I eaten there it may have scored better. I'm hid was my first time trying a cheesesteak with long hots as well, I was craving spicy, they hit the spot. read more

Been here twice now and their portions go craaaazy. One cheesesteak is enough to feed 2-3 people. And it's delicious. Those cheesesteak eggrolls were also surprisingly so good especially with the sauce. read more

Got the ribeye sandwich on a seeded roll with onions and cheese. The meat was tender and flavorful and the roll was fresh. Huge portions and super filling - would recommend sharing with a friend! Will try experimenting with other toppings next time to balance out the amount of protein on the sandwich. Prices were reasonable, and there wasn't a line when I went so we were served quickly. There was indoor seating upstairs though the shop is just a block or two away from Rittenhouse Square so also a great option to walk over and sit outside there. read more

Best cheesesteak ever! I tried several cheesesteaks during my Philly trip and I loved Cleavers' cheesesteak so much, I gave them another visit on the last day of the trip. I was on a quest to compare cheesesteaks from multiple businesses to find my favorite. This is the place! Cleavers is located in a very central space near Rittenhouse Square. You can order at the counter or through a touchscreen kiosk. There is plenty of well-lit seating indoors upstairs or you can sit at one of the few outdoor tables if you plan to dine in. I got the cheesesteak (they use ribeye) with white American cheese and fried onions. Simple and oh-so delicious! Love it when all the ingredients meld together into something magnificent. The meat was extra juicy, the cheese and onions were savory, and the seeded roll was soft and fluffy and still held up the ingredients inside. The cheesesteak was, simply put, comforting and hearty. I brought some friends on my second go and everyone loved their food, including the person who strayed off the path and went for a chicken cheesesteak. We shared the waffle-cut sweet potato fries and they were no less than perfect. Cleavers may not be one of the oldest in the game, but they sure are on top of their game. read more

I was in the area for work and ordered based on the higher reviews and proximity to my hotel. I was hoping to get the real cheesesteak experience. While the food arrived hot and fresh, I was really disappointed in the flavor. I chose the option with mushrooms, peppers and onions and unless they are micro-diced, I couldn't see them and there was slim to no cheese. The only flavor I tasted was black pepper. For a $30 sandwich, I was left feeling robbed and wishing I had chosen the other original establishments. read more
My friend rated this to be his favorite cheesesteak hoagie. My other friend's chicken hoagie was good and my portobello meatless hoagie was just okay. Service was basic city service. Quick. Not so friendly. Order and get out of the way. Order at the counter or the kiosks. Beer on tap using tap card. Upstairs and downstairs seating. 5 star rating goes to the best cheesesteak hoagie that my friend had on this trip. Will I return? Not for me. read more

In all honesty, the cheesesteak is nothing special. But I'm giving an extra star here for the quick service and big portion. I got the standard cheese whiz cheese steak with onions, nothing added. It's fine, it's not the best cheese steak and not the worst. Plenty of sitting area if you're here with a big group. read more

Eight years later and this lace is still pumping out a quality product. There is so much tender, tasty meat in each cheesesteak, it's unbelievable! I don't remember if they had a similar menu to what they have now; I seem to recall a sparser menu with just a handful of options. Now, in order to get a cheesesteak with Cooper American and fried onions, it will cost you $15.69 minimum ($16.94 with tax) but it's a darn good sandwich so it's worth it. If you get fries with your sandwich, you may as well share it with someone. read more
My god this was the best cheesesteak I've ever had in my whole life! Not only that but the service was incredibly friendly. Our favorite Philly cheesesteak order, if you order it like this you won't be disappointed: MYO RIBEYE -ROLL SEEDED-CHEESE WHIZ HOT BANANA PEPPERS CHERRY PEPPER RELISH GREEN PEPPERS We also ordered the effin hot which was really awesome but not as good as the original Philly cheesesteak with the toppings we mentioned above. Also the title was a little deceiving, it wasn't really spicy . The regular cheesesteak was dripping with cheese and sauce, had a nice kick , plenty of toppings, delicious meat that's making me drool as I write this review too. read more

The regular Cheesesteak has 8oz of meat and one type of cheese. Our Cleaver has 1lb of meat and two types of Cheese!!

There are a lot of people that get “the bowl”. It’s all the stuff just no bread. Tastes just as good!!

To each his own. But high quality ingredients at Cleavers + an amazing roll = best cheese steak I've ever had.
