Had never heard of this place before, but my friend/coworker suggested it when we were all looking for a place to grab a beverage before heading back to the office. It turned into us sitting down for a little morning beverage and pastries. It is very bright and feels airy in there with the all white decor, bright paintings and large windows allowing a ton of natural light in. Staff were friendly and helpful while there. I kept it simple with their namesake green tea option while we all split the pastry basket option. Pretty good, standard tea and pastry experience... Ordered catering for my friends event. Staff was so rude to us. I even returned the ikea tote they lent to us to carry our order: not so much as a thank you or acknowledgement that I returned it... not the mention the ordering process was absolutely chaotic as well. I sent the email over a month before, with clearly written items from their menu, they responded missing like half of it. Then it seems like there was a delay in response because one of the workers I was corresponding with was out? Then the waffle iron was broken day of and one of my guests went without a breakfast and did their own at their hotel... there were a total of 13 emails for this one catering order. We spent $350 at this spot and they were so rude at pick up; like almost annoyed we had a large order. Location was the only reason we ordered from here; the space itself is industrial chic and airy conveniently located across from the hotel we were at. Spend your money elsewhere: this is for snobby art people. read more

While wandering around the area, we wanted to take a break at a cafe and found Frieda. Upon entering, you're welcome to a variety of art pieces from paper flowers to jams. The works are available for sale and come from local artists, which is pretty amazing. The cafe itself is so artful and tasteful as well. The walls are decorated with paint chips in a gorgeous rainbow ombré. There's a large selection of healthy food options as well, but we just came by for some drinks. I had a White Peach Iced Tea ($4) while they also refilled our glass of waters. The drinks were standard, but the space is lovely. Glad we stumbled into this artsy cafe. read more

We visited here on a Thursday morning and we're greeted at the front and seated immediately. Our first impression was that the place is well decorated and neat. Staff is friendly and the place sells local stuff at the front. We ordered ordered quiche and continental breakfast along with coffee. I did check on their coffee refill policy and it is bottomless. We were worried about the portions as they claimed French, but boy we were wrong. The quiche was personal size and very filling. The continental breakfast, which initially I thought would not be good was infant a great sampler - it had salmon oats granola toast eggs avocado and much more. This was a great way to taste multiple things. Service was prompt and our coffee was being refilled at such fast pace. Bathrooms were clean and had forest music in the background. After reading the wonderful reviews in Yelp about FRIEDA, my wife and I decided to take an early morning walk to FRIEDA. As we walked in, some very interesting, creative and beautiful artwork welcomes your eyes. There was a large art installation on many of the walls supporting the mission of the business to create a community of artists and others. We were seated in comfortable seats with a comfortable amount of space between tables. The noise level in FRIEDA is comfortable and it's easy to have a conversation at a normal voice level. My wife ordered her favorite breakfast-avocado toast with eggs over easy. The bread was really nice and she enjoyed her breakfast a lot. I ordered the french toast. Meh. I received one piece of french toast made with brioche bread. The outside of the bread was well cooked but the inside was mushy, soft and not really cooked. One piece of french toast for $17. Really. I support reasonably high prices in food establishments so that the staff can be paid a reasonable wage. But what would a 2nd piece of bread with some egg and milk cost? And how about preparing it appropriately? FRIEDA is a nice organization. My bottom line experience is that it is a bit full of itself. A bit foofy and pretentious. When I mentioned my concerns to our server, she listened and was understanding. And then brought us the check. I won't be back. read more

This place was so incredible, the mushroom poached egg dish was so flavorful and delicious, the French toast was amazing as well with this decadent butterscotch sauce and fresh fruit. When I was researching places for breakfast during my shirt stay in Philadelphia no one mentioned this gem and I am glad I found it. The inside is very welcoming and spacious and the staff are very friendly! I had the matcha latte, seasonal tart (which I was surprised that it was pie haha) and the beautiful croque monsieur. The latte and pie weren't overly sweet and well balanced and the croque monsieur is probably the best I have had. The food is crafted with love. I hope to share frieda with others read more

This is such a delightful little cafe in the historic part of Philly. I stopped by for some breakfast. The omelette I had was just okay - I should've listened to the other reviews - but I appreciated that they had gluten free toast, and the homemade jam was divine. The iced latte was also good! I thought they were all solid, nothing was dry/off putting - croissants were a good level of crunch on the outside and soft on the inside and, while I personally don't like blueberries normally, I enjoyed their muffin. When I have friends in town or family visiting, FRIEDA is my go-to for weekend brunch. Some of the food is literally life-changing. For me, the almond croissant and brioche French toast are must-try's for any Philly local or native. This time, we got the quiche Lorraine, American omelet, and baker's basket. The quiche was flaky and not too thick while the American omelette was light and fluffy. The baker's basket is a must-get for me every time I go to FRIEDA. The bread is just so unique and QQ and the almond croissant is to die for. The side salad and sencha tea were both light and fresh tasting. The service is always friendly and kind. I was allowed to be seated almost 25 minutes before the rest of my party joined. (But it wasn't too busy.) However, note should be taken reservations must be made for groups ~6 (and there is gratuity applied). The interior of FRIEDA is always changing with rotating art installations on the walls and rotating shelves at the front selling products ranging from either their own tea or offerings from local artists. There is outdoor seating, as well. Dining at FRIEDA is very aesthetic. Overall, FRIEDA is the epitome of a classy city brunch and I highly recommend dining there to everyone! read more

Nice local upscale brunch/lunch establishment that supports a community center. The menu is quite extensive and a particular favorite is the baked goods sampler featuring bread, cream cheese, Gruyère and Brie cheeses, and other delicious goodies. The restaurant is on a historic block of Walnut Street in the beautiful Society Hill section of Philly and eating outdoors on this block is a particular treat when the weather permits. read more

The prices vs what you get served is ridiculous. I would pay less at Trader Joe's for what we got: The continental breakfast and petit dejourner. The toasted brioche was more like stale brioche. The iddi-biddy croissant was pitiful and not tasty. The coffee was whatever. The service, besides the workers who spoke Spanish and welcomed us, everyone else looked at us as if we were a stain in their pretty little box. Interesting interior - bright, open, airy, pictures of headless naked bodies hanging on the walls. There's also a gift shop area. It seems like this place serves basic brunch food. I got salmon eggs Benedict because I wanted to try the sweet potato rosti. It's basically potato hash, and it was soggy under the sauce and eggs, so I regretted getting it. It wasn't bad, I just wished I had tried something else, like the mushroom toast, which is a popular dish according to the server. Also got the continental breakfast, which is a lot of food, all good. The employee took away a plate with cream cheese on it before I was done, so he brought extra cream cheese out, which was kind (even though I didn't want to eat more cream cheese - I appreciate the sentiment and customer service). I'd rate this place 3/5, but just for the kind act, I'll rate it 4/5. Kindness and customer service matter a lot to me. Drinks were orange juice and Bangkok tea. The water cups are so small, and I wish they were bigger so that I could drink more freely, or at least leave a big bottle on the table. read more

Frieda always comes up when I try to Yelp for good brunch places in Old City so I decided to take a quick walk over and see what all the buzz was. Immediately entering, it felt very calming as it's this large white box-space with high ceilings. There's a goods store/display right near the entrance where the sell their jams, cards, local items, and Harney & Son's teas. You can either take pastries to go or dine in. I had some time for dine in and as it wasn't too busy (late morning/weekday) I was immediately seated. Service was quick and food came out fairly quickly. Got a hot water with lemon and an avocado toast with salmon. The avocado toast with salmon was two pieces and the ingredients on top were piled high in the toast. A little messy to bite into but the bread was warm and toasty--pesto and arugula provided some sharpness to the salmon and avocado. The tomato slices added some freshness. Got a free refill on the hot water and when I was done with my meal, my plate got cleared pretty quickly. Payment is at your table with a credit card. Looking forward to coming back and trying some other items on the menu when I have some more time to sit and relax. read more

They were generous with the salmon and whipped cheese and the croissant was buttery, crisp on the outside, and flakey. The fruit bowl was a good size. My friend enjoyed the avocado toast, but it was nothing special. However, I had maybe the worst iced matcha latte of my life here! The matcha they use is not good. Avoid at all costs. Also, the service was so, so slow. We were in no rush to go anywhere so it was fine, but something to keep in mind if you're planning on dining here. read more
