Cheese grits and cheese eggs
Zenitta A.

If you are in Philly, don't miss the opportunity to experience Green Eggs Cafe. The food was delicious. I have never experienced a steak so flavorful at a cafe. The French toast was amazing. We had the croissant and banana crème. The eggs were seasoned perfectly. Service was excellent and the cafe is nice and chill They only accept cash so come prepared.

Service was quick. Cash only. Cinnamon French toast had an almond note I wasn't a fan of. The French toast creme brûlée was decent. The hash was pretty good.

Very solid brunch spot- pertinent positives Poached eggs were perfectly executed! Love the pork roll options, cinnamon toast was tasty but perhaps a tiny bit too sweet. Great drink options. Mimosas were flavorful. Staff were friendly and accommodating Large space with many tables. Negatives- cash only, some fake table decor? Only two individual bathrooms, and coffee was a little burnt, music is a bit loud. All in all very good options- almost too many to choose from. A lot of menu items are unique but they do execute them well!

We had an amazing brunch in this quaint spot. We were seated promptly and the service was attentive. All of our food came out hot and delicious! Highly recommend! Side note-this is a cash only cafe and the tip is included in your bill.

A college friend who is like a sister to me was in town for a conference so we planned to meet up for breakfast/brunch. Gave her a list of places to consider and she chose this Philly brunch staple that I knew wouldn't disappoint. **For those who haven't been before, this is a CASH ONLY restaurant. Bring it with you or use the ATM in the restaurant** (we brought cash with us since I knew that) We got there around 10:30/10:45 Friday morning. For some reason I wasn't expecting it to be as full as it was since it's a weekday, but it is a Friday and this is a go-to breakfast/lunch/brunch place in the city so I should've expected that. It wasn't too crowded though and the hostess immediately greeted and seated us after we walked in. The large windows help bring in a ton of natural light, making the space bright. Shoutout to our waitress Jane (believe she said that was her name), who gave us honest and good feedback on menu options we were trying to choose between. Based off her insights, my friend went with the Funnel Cake French Toast from the Specials menu while I decided to get the Breakfast Enchiladas with no pork chorizo. We were both happily satisfied with our choices. Coming out, they both were appealing to the eye, served hot and fresh. Each of us felt good with what we went with. As always, a great breakfast/brunch experience at Green Eggs!

We found this place on Yelp as we walked around Philly looking for a great breakfast spot. Greeted right away but had to wait outside for maybe 5 min, then was advised they are cash only, they have an ATM so it was fine. So FYI CASH ONLY. There were soooo many items on this menu we wanted to try plan on returning but we have 1 more day let in the city lol we decided on the kitchen sink and chicken and waffle Benedict. Both were amazing! Sauce was delicious and the hash brown was like something I've never had it looked a lil odd but as soon as I tasted that fried cheese it was the best.!!! Highly recommend this place and I'm sure anything you pick is gonna be great.

Of course this is good! This has been a staple for brunch in the city for many years. Whatever location you end up at, you will have delicious comforting food with heaping portions. And it is consistent. I remember when they first came on the scene and so much hype. We needed brunch spots back then. Now we have plenty but you can continue to trust Green Eggs. My daughter lives right across the street from this Green Eggs so we met for brunch for her birthday. Shrimp and grits for me and the "cure" skillet for two of my girls. Delicious! The skillet was decadent with creamy Mac n cheese, short ribs, cheese and French fries. My shrimp and grits were so good with cheesy grits and well seasoned shrimp. My birthday girl wanted the French toast flight for the table for dessert. So good! This place is so indulgent. I've been here so many times through out the years and it never disappoints!

Food was so amazing! The quantity was great for the price! They are cash only, but have an ATM.

The kids size red velvet pancakes
Sheri S.

First of all the reviews for this place are unmatched. Plus, our hotel listed them as number one on the breakfast list. Not sure if it was based on popularity or distance but both won the day. It was literally right down the street within walking distance from our hotel. I definitely read the cash only tip from prior Yelpers and noticed they did not take reservations so was a little concerned about a long wait time. Thankfully, the wait was not an issue. They had an ATM on site and there was no wait when we arrived around 12:30. It was also obvious that people raved about the red velvet pancakes. Those things looked huge, so I knew if I even considered ordering them it would have to be a small size. Thankfully, that was also accomplished. When I shared my concerns about portion control with our waitress said she could give me the kids size. This was perfect! The restaurant was buzzing was people. Super loud. So much so, that when we gave our orders our waiter could hardly hear us. I had the Egg white omelet with mushroom, spinach, home fries with peppers, and wheat toast. My companions had one order of the blueberry and peaches pancakes, and another order of turkey bacon, wheat toast, scrambled eggs and home fries. The kids size of the red velvet pancakes was just right. I actually preferred the blueberry and peaches order which came with 12 mini pancakes - so cute and tasty- to the red velvet pancakes. My hot chocolate was yummy with quality whipped cream and the view of the beautiful mural across the street made our brunch time here a treat!

Open faced short rib sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese and Onion Rings
Sarah B.

This place was huge!!! Very crowded, very hipster, lots and LOTS of options for food considering it was a brunch spot, they close early. We got so many things but me personally? I got the open short rib sandwich and subbed their mac and cheese with onion rings. Sandwich was delicious with lots and lots of cheese I loved their mac and cheese as well it tasted like sharp cheddar mixed with monterey jack. YUM. I did take a star off because the hostess/server was not very kind to our group possibly because she was not very friendly but then again it was busy, maybe she was stressed. Will absolutely return again!

Pineapple mimosa

One of my favorite breakfast places when visiting Philadelphia. Bright, open space, energetic vibe with upbeat music. Food is good, I enjoyed my omelette, although, a two egg omelette is the same price as the three egg omelette. I asked for the smaller omelette with extra toppings (tomato & cheese) and it cost more than my fiancé's 3-egg omelette. That was a little disappointing. Mimosa was great, enjoyed the pineapple. Loved the multigrain toast. Thick nice quality bread, served with soft butter, and asked for strawberry jelly. Very good Potatoes were good, served with lots of pepper & onions. Omelette was nice, I just like the cheese scrambled inside instead of on top, but that's just a personal preference. Gratuity is added to the bill, that's interesting, maybe a Philly thing? Overall a good positive experience.

Creme Brûlée French Toast
Paige D.

Went here for a nice breakfast and were super pleased! The menu is huge, but we ended up going with the crème brûlée French toast and some scrambled eggs and fruit. The French toast was sweet but not overpowering, and all of the toppings with it made the meal delicious. The scrambled eggs were super fluffy, and the fruit was sweet and fresh. We got our food quick, and had a very nice time. Great place!

Menu, hot tea, honey lavender latte

Incredible! This place is so adorable inside and out. A friend and I went around 11:15 on a Sunday morning and we were able to get a table in about 15 minutes (shorter than the wait time we were quoted). We decided to share two meals in order to get sweet and savory. The Apple Pie French Toast was to die for and it was so huge. I don't think I could eat that without something savory to go alongside it. Our savory meal was the Ultimate Tofu Scramble with a side of mac and cheese. The ultimate tofu scramble was pretty good but we both had to add hot sauce for some flavor. The mac and cheese, however was really good-- though nothing was as good as our French toast. Our server was super sweet and despite being super busy we were well looked after. Be warned they only take cash and you can't split checks - but they have an atm in the restaurant if you forget.

Ask the Community - Green Eggs Café

How is the parking?

There's a lot right across the street or you need to find street parking which is tough.

Do they have bottomless mimosas?

Nope

How fast is the kitchen? And is there usually a wait for a table on Friday mornings?

Their kitchen is pretty fast! We went on a Sunday morning and didn't have to wait long for our food at all! I don't think you'd have to wait on a Friday morning

Is dining inside available now?

Yes

Do they deliver?

They have been, call the number of the location you're trying to order from.

Are any of the locations BYO?

No. But they do have alcohol on the menu

Can you get stuff to go/pickup?

Yes

Is this place wheel-chair accessible?

I don't think it is wheelchair accessible to get inside the eatery, but there are outdoor seatings that are easily accessible by wheelchair.

Does Green Eggs Cafe have Gluten free toast or sausage?

Sorry I don't but either check the menu or give them a call. They are really nice

Are there bigger tables that can accommodate 6 people?

Yup. Gonna wait a bit but its doable and worth the wait. Enjoy!!

Do they take reservations?

No they do not take reservations, HOWEVER, you can call ahead and tell them how large your group is and ask for the approximate wait time. You can also go there, put your name in and then go do something else to kill time depending on which Green… Read more

Are the prices reasonable?

We think the prices are very reasonable, considering the portions are huge and very tasty. Great service also.

Is it bottomless or byob?

It is neither but they have alcohol in the restaurant. They have a drink menu that you can chose from.

How were the red velvet pancakes?

They are delicious! They feature chocolate chips with the pancakes, and they are layered with strawberries and marscapone cheese. They are very large, and plenty to share! Enjoy!

Is the breakfast all day?

Yes. They close pretty early. REMEMBER: cash only.

Is this a good place to take family and friends when coming to visit in town? I am new to PA, so I need some recommendations and the name intrigued me.

Yes absolutely! The only trouble may be getting a table at busy times for a large group.

We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

I felt like I ordered the wrong combination. I was able to do an egg sandwich and swap for sourdough bread vs eng muffin. Love that. Didn't love the copper sharp cheese that was a bit messy and tangy. I kept thinking they must have added some type of sauce on it. I'd much rather come back for a simple fried egg combo and chedda cheese. I was also offered sparkling water, but I do wish it had more fizz. The service start to finish was superb in friendly and fast service. I'd come back for mimosa/bar for sure.

The place is small, but it feels cozy and not crowded. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee and the pork banh mi, which were both so good. The Vietnamese coffee is not like the traditional Viet coffees you'd get at a pho place (shoutout Pho75 for the best iced Vietnamese coffee in Philly); Brown Street's is very strong and thick and doesn't really have that sweet condensed milk taste. Still, it was unique, chocolately and smooth, and also really caffeinated! Their pork banh mi is one of the BEST banh mis I've had in general-- the pork is tender and juicy, and it is topped with an ample amount of pickled vegetables. Every part of the sandwich from the crispy bread, fresh toppings, and flavorful, juicy meat was done perfectly. Oh, and the banh mi is pretty decently sized for what you pay. Definitely highly recommend!

We ordered our drinks on the walk there and we hoped they would be ready when we arrived. It's the fanciest looking coffee house I ever visited, there's outside seating which is nice and the inside is lit up with warm yellow lighting throughout, very spacious with tables and wicker like chairs. It seems like a great spot to meet up with a friend or to visit, find a corner read or work. It looks like a family establishment, as I noticed there were children behind the register, a young man, maybe 10 years old took my order and did a great job doing so! Bravo! I purchased a vanilla hot matcha latte and a pistachio milk cake, the total was about $21!!! This price was expensive, visiting establishment like this often is not feasible to my budget but there's so much more I need to try so I'll be back. The matcha was amazing, actually the most authentic I've tried!!! And the pistachio milk cake was delicious, being a person who literally puts milk on cake lol, this was amazing!!! It wasn't too sweet and the pistachio gave balance! The slice is enough to share or split for 2 servings, which is what I did. Bottom line, I'll be back! I'd love to try their coffee and another pastry and possibly sit outside on a nice day. Please visit and enjoy!!!
