Made a reservation for dinner for two and the place is very nice! Lighting is nice and everything felt clean. The server was super friendly and also very knowledgeable on the menu. The food was delicious as were the drinks. The drinks were some of the best in the city! Definitely a good spot to check out.
My husband and I stopped here, delicious food! He got the cheesesteak and I got the Mac and cheese. Served hot and yummy, his cheesesteak was cheesy and melted. A little pricey but for the quality of food, worth it!
This review is for the breakfast or brunch time. We stayed at kimpton Monaco where there's no coffee in the room. As a result, we tried the Red owl tavern. It's definitely the best coffee we've ever had. The way they made it make so much more sense than the ordinary coffee shops. Mocha or syrup with the coffee so it melts and mixes with the coffee before mixing with your milk of choice. You can definitely taste the flavor. Breakfast is really good too and comes in good portion. The waiter we had was really good too, always checking but not bothering us. Will definitely come back for coffee at the least.
Went here for lunch after a half conference event at the National Constitution Center (it's just a few blocks away). It was lunch time, but we were able to be seated as soon as we walked in. Staff were all so friendly and attentive, smiling and checking in throughout our meal to see how we ere doing. The menu was smaller than what I expected, but had some good options and I'm thinking it's scaled down since it's the lunch menu. The food itself was pretty good. I'm not a person that really likes/chooses to eat fries - I know, I know but I would choose sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, but I digress. But the fries are fried in beef tallow which really gives it such a great flavor and taste! Was really happy with the portion size of my plate - the sandwich has hefty but not too overwhelming and the side salad was the perfect size. My boss said she enjoyed her meal also. Nice spot for American fare in Old City. Would eat from here again.
I was walking to my hotel from the hospital and passed this. I was craving something green for dinner. I stopped in, sat at the bar, and ordered a cocktail, the Caesar salad, and the Brussels app. I got the food at the same time per my request. I started with the Walnut Street cocktail which was delicious Loved the salad. It was hearty and well seasoned. The black pepper was a surprise but good addition. Lettuce was fresh. The Brussels portion was crazy big. I could have fed the whole bar! They were served warm and very good. I wanted dessert but they said the kitchen had closed. I asked if I could get ice cream. They came back with 3 flavor choices: vanilla, chocolate, and matcha. I chose vanilla and ordered a shot of amaretto to pour on top. Perfect. Bartenders were very attentive and not intrusive. Bar had a good vibe. Would return.
I've stayed at the Kimpton Monaco on multiple occasions for business trips and have only enjoyed dining at the Red Owl Tavern just recently!! While I ordered my meal to go, the staff: Tim and Missy were so friendly and great taking my order. I ordered the Tavern Burger with fries and that was one of the most juiciest burgers I had! A double cheeseburger with bacon - c'mon! Can't go wrong with that! The fries were nice and crispy! Thank you for making my experience that much more enjoyable!
Alan the Manager was very kind and knowledgeable. His sense of customer service is excellent. Alan, our wait person or server was very nice and well and attentive to our needs. The food came out in creative ways with strawberries on top of the burrata sourdough toast. And the strawberries were nice and sweet. The beet salad was healthy and tasted good. I felt the dressing that vinaigrette based was a bit too vinegary so I'm glad I asked for it on the side so I could use it with my taste buds. They have desserts and coffee and breakfast items to go when you enter on the left side as well as a bar so it's very convenient inside the hotel Kimpton hotel Monaco in Philadelphia. Parking can be on the street for about five or six dollars per hour with the parking app or you can pay with your credit card at the meter. And you have to pay until 10 PM.
Decent breakfast; amazing bartender! Tallow Fried Tots- large, crispy, house-made potato rounds underneath cheese sauce, brisket, & green onions. Good & filling. Eggs Benedict- ham, hollandaise, side arugula salad. The egg was overcooked & gelatinous. I was very much looking forward to the run of the yolk, but still enjoyed it. My 2 pet peeves- overcooked eggs and COLD food. Every breakfast ordered here arrived cold. Not sure why, it's a tiny place & the food barely needs to travel. But feel like everything would've been really good if not for that. What unexpectedly knocked my socks off was the pancakes! They were HUGE & the pat of butter on top was sprinkled in salt. That tiny detail made them the most savory-sweet indulgence of the trip. I will FOREVER salt my pancake butter as a result. TY Red Owl Tavern. The standout was the bartender who on a late Monday night, when most would've been shutting sh*t down, was making homemade batches of syrups & knocking our socks off w/ one fantastic cocktail after another! Husband couldn't get enough of the Campfire Old Fashioned. I'm Your Huckleberry kept me happy, but The Zombie Luau really brought things home. I rarely drink anymore, but this Honeypot of a bar menu had us going for broke!
Great choice for a party of 10. The restaurant was able to accommodate a reservation on short notice the peanut butter mousse was awesome and not overly sweet or rich. I especially loved the marshmallow cream. The Tagliatelle was very salty and the crab rice was a hit with a little bit of a kick. The waitress did a great job with our party.
We stayed at the hotel here for 7 days and here at least once per day for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food was consistently good on all occasions. An omelette for breakfast, Philly cheesesteak for lunch or spicy crab noodles for dinner, it was all good. The Philly Cheesesteak was actually my favorite of 3 I had this week. Service was excellent, cocktails were very good and prices fair.

This place had great vibes, good service, and an impressively delicious cheesesteak! Although the menu was a bit limited, the food was hot, fresh, and well made. We had an amazing brunch at Red Owl Tavern and our server Janaye made that experience so much better! The food was delicious and the drinks were phenomenal. We started with the Spicy Crab & Artichoke Dip as well as the Loaded Hash Browns for the table. The Chicken Milanese Hoagie was the star of brunch! The cocktails with an (*) could be made with or without alcohol which made my dining experience as a non-drinker much more enjoyable. Always a 10/10 experience!
This restaurant/ bar was attached to our hotel so we had breakfast there. Glad we did. The Salmon Benedict was very good with plenty of salmon. Service was prompt and accommodating. The vibe was casual, and you could feel the history of the area in the old wood floors and brick walls. Definitely worth checking out for a nice sit-down meal.

Here's the story. We arrived in the City super early to make the day of it before our 6:05 start of the Phillies game with the 5 of us. I originally wanted to take the gang to Oh Brother Philly. When we got there, I realized my huge mistake.... It's a fast casual fast food place. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But we wanted a sit down restaurant and bar. We went to the Yelp! app and found the Red Owl Tavern right around the block. We are so glad we found the Red Owl Tavern. Just what our group wanted! Great location across the street from Independence Hall! Walking distance from our car park. The hostess was super nice and accommodating. Within 5 minutes we had our table. The waitress was quick with water for the table and taking our drink orders. We started off with sharing a 10 count of some amazing chicken wings. Double fried! Delicious doesn't give them credit enough. These wings are out of this world amazing. Our table got for our meals, the roast pork sandwich with a Csaszar salad, 3 cheesesteaks with fries, a 2 patty cheese burger with fries. Everything was delicious, tasty and super flavorful. Then a summer time 30 minute rain shower came through, so we got dessert.... A strawberry shortcake and a chocolate cake. Split amongst us. OMG! The goodness was decadent! We had a fantastic early dinner/late lunch before our 10 minute drive down Front St to Lot P for our Citizens Bank Park Phillies Game! We would this exact same trip again in a heartbeat we enjoyed ourselves so much. read more

I stayed at the Kimpton hotel when i was in Philadelphia, so I was a regular for breakfast. I liked the Breakfast Jawn and Eggs Benny. Service was prompt and really efficient. They also offered coffee and tea with breakfast, and they spaced each party out well. If you are up early, this is the breakfast spot. On the other hand, dinner was a bit of a miss. The pasta dish I had, the Paccheri was not remarkable. Service was slower because it was busier. I also sat at the bar counter which was very tight for food service. It was tighter than my old regular tavern bar, which was a bit uncomfortable and I am not a large person. read more

This is why I need to do reviews right immediately after I eat. Because I forget the names of the waitresses and the food I ordered. I enclosed photos, but let me try to tell you how this restaurant connected to a hotel is a low key place to grab a bite whenever you are on the outskirts of old city Philly. The place is nestled in the corner, there is a parking garage adjacent on the other corner that has fair rates. My gf and I ordered a Caesar and we split a desert and some kind of fish burger. Initially I wanted a real burger but my gf talked me out of it and my hands were tied. I took my first bite and I knew sharing with her was a bad idea. The sandwich was great. Cooked to perfection. Good service and solid food! Our group of four walked in on a moderately busy Tuesday night and were seated right away. Our server was helpful with suggestions and we opted for the spicy crab dip to share at her recommendation. Not especially spicy but I thought the flavor was good. I went with the 12oz prime strip which had a nice garlic herb butter. The bordelaise sauce was fine. I ordered a side of Macaroni au gratin which was pretty good and definitely a shareable side. I will start with the good. We came with another family while visiting the Liberty Bell and other Historical and sites in Philly. The place is really cool. Old, historic setting, with an upstairs, and outdoor seating. The service was another big positive. The host was so friendly and welcoming. He told us it would be about a 15 minute wait and checked on us twice to let us know we would be seated soon. We were seated in about 12 minutes. Our server Dierra, was really good. So friendly and attentive. She did a great job! The food was up and down with what we ordered. We split a cheese steak and smoked wings. The smoked wings were awesome. The cheesesteak was just ok at best. In Philly, I wanted a good cheese steak, and this really wasn't it. read more

A wonderful first time experience. We stopped in for brunch today, a wonderful waitress, wish I remembered her name now... The restaurant was clean, well staffed with everyone being pleasant. Great meal and service! The lasagna was hot, cheesy, absolutely delicious. The 1/2 chicken and rice dish was tender with a nice spicy kick, and the Caesar salad with a whole grilled chicken breast was fresh and flavorful. Dessert menu sound delicious but we were stuffed!! I ate here this morning and it was awesome - fast, delicious, and great service. I had the regular sized pancakes, breakfast potatoes, and coffee. Went back tonight and had a lamb sugo pasta before meeting a friend. Again, really good food, fast, great service. read more
We stopped by Red Owl Tavern after an early morning flight to Philadelphia. It wasn't too busy and our waitress was kind. Their breakfast menu was a simple one-pager. We each ordered Two Eggs Your Way with sour dough bread. I had gone with the applewood bacon and my boyfriend went with the chicken sausage. The jam was so delicious, we were a big fan of it. Solid brunch options to choose from near Independence Hall and Liberty Bell. I came by on a rainy day, and luckily they were able to squeeze us in before their next round of reservations. Everything was kind of heavy, so I'm glad that we split two dishes between three people. Breakfast tostada was my favorite out of the two. I liked that there was brightness from the pico and whipped avocado. The carnitas were seasoned very well. It didn't feel as heavy as the tavern breakfast bowl. The tavern breakfast bowl is good if you feel super hungry, but it was a lot. The potatoes and gravy made it super filling. A little too salty as well, but waiters come around often to make sure you have enough water. All the dishes seem relatively normal, nothing that is super creative, but they cook them well. Also very filling and a good way to start the day. read more

It's across the street from independence hall. Lots of bar seating available and they do take walkins if there is space available. Beautiful room!
