Visited The Dandelion during a beautiful day in Philadelphia and decided to take advantage of the outdoor seating, which was a great choice. A quick note for first-time visitors: the restaurant has multiple entrances, and I initially arrived at the back door. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in directing me to the correct entrance. The space has a unique atmosphere. The indoor dining area felt quite dark, but the restaurant appears to have multiple levels, including an upstairs dining area and a bar, which adds to its charm. I started with a cocktail and really enjoyed it. It was fruity, well-balanced, and had just the right amount of alcohol without being overpowering. Based on recommendations, I ordered the burger. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for me. It could have been cooked better, and overall I wasn't particularly impressed with it. What stood out most was the service. My server was attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly without being intrusive. Overall, The Dandelion offers a pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, and great cocktails. Took my niece out for her birthday dinner, and she chose the spot -- can't argue with that kind of taste. I'd heard the fish and chips were something special here, and they absolutely lived up to the hype. A generous piece of fish, fried beautifully -- not greasy at all -- that flaked perfectly with every bite. My niece doesn't eat fish, and even she took a bite and approved. High praise. But honestly? The star of the evening were the Madras Curry deviled eggs. Outstanding. Truly. And the dip with the perfectly toasted bread was equally impressive -- everything was prepared with real care. The drinks were lovely, and the atmosphere is in a category all its own. There is so much to look at. You could spend hours in there and still not catch everything on the walls. I'm so glad we decided to try The Dandelion! It appears to be located in an old brownstone. The restaurant has a warm and cozy atmosphere with dining rooms, hardwood floors, and fireplaces that reminds you of an old home. We didn't have a reservation, but luckily we were seated right away. We started with the Billingsgate crab croquettes, which were seasoned well and served fresh with a delicious lemon and paprika sauce. My only complaint was that there were only four and they were so good I wanted more! For my entrée, I ordered the tandoori chicken, and it was amazing! The portion was generous, the chicken was very tender, the rice was fluffy, and the cucumber yogurt brought everything together. My wife and I came in and didn't notice the sign for the hostess, so naturally we walk to the bar to inquire on seating. We were purposely ignored and, when they realized we weren't going anywhere, we were instructed to go upstairs to see the hostess. The hostess was warm and sat us immediately. We sat next to a large party with a view of the kitchen and the wait staff congregating next to it. We waited maybe 5 minutes, saw a server come out, look at our table, advise someone in the kitchen that the table was occupied, and disappear again. Still no server, no water, no greeting. We finally decide to just leave instead of subjecting ourselves to any more poor treatment. I try not to read between the lines in situations like this, but it was blatant that the service staff had no interest in serving us. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that looks like me. read more

This place is SO neat! The vibe is relaxed but also elegant. There is an air of an old speakeasy or club throughout the place. We were warmly greeted and seated. The waiter was funny and engaging without being too overly zealous. Our food was excellent. I had the Deviled Eggs which were AMAZING! Perfect portion and creamy filling makes it extravagant: The welsh rarebit reminded us of a beer pretzel, but if it were sourdough. My risotto was unbelievable. We came here for brunch Saturday 4.18.26 prior to seeing Philadanco at the Kimmel. Excellent service was provided by Gabrielle. Food overall was good. Atmosphere is cute. We were unfortunately seated next to a table of 8-10 college age girls who made zero attempt at not being loud. I had asked for a cozy corner spot on the reservation. It would have been nice to be seated in the front of the room past the doors on the second floor where one other small party was seated. There was no one else in that separated room and we were plunked next to an obnoxiously loud party. Oh well. I tried. Food was overall good. Cocktails were great especially the Cherry-O. What we ordered- Here Comes The Sun Cocktail Cherry-O Cocktail Billingsgate Crab Croquettes Pickled Beetroot Welsh Rarebit 2 Fish & Chips I was so looking forward to the Welsh Rarebit but was terribly disappointed. Went last night and had oysters, scallops in a malt vinegar burre blanc with bacon lardons and smoked cod on a potato rosti with salmon roe, and always a must when at the dandelion the chicken and duck liver parfait!!! Some new items on the menu so I figured I would go through a new review: Carrot Soup: This replaces their old root vegetable soup, and they thankfully kept it vegetarian. It was much better than their root vegetable soup, and I was quite fond of that soup. It's honestly nothing like anything else on the menu. It has an indian? maybe? taste to it. It's so good. there is these juicy white raisins inside, some sliced almonds (not treenut friendly), and some sort of white yogurt sauce with micro greens. really a fantastic flavor pallet and the actual soup texture is smooth minus the toppings. Cashew Hummus: okay so here's my thing. I find that this restaurant in particular does such a disservice with their menu item descriptions. Based off of the description of this dish, I would think it's probably decent at best, and might not even order it. luckily I had a sixth sense to know this would be amazing. it's truly so good. it's a hummus layer topped with a bunch of seasoned roasted vegetables and chickpeas. The flavors are great and the textures are also great. I wouldn't have known it was cashew hummus if you didn't tell me. it's honestly not that large, so if you really like vegtables and hummus i'd get your own or split with only one person. if everyone is demure, it could go four ways. also! I don't think it comes with bread. it didn't come with bread this recent visit, but I am not sure if that was a mistake or that's how it is. But, to be safe, i'd save your bread you get at the begining to use for this. this is a must get every time I go. Dandelion salad: I only order this for my welsh rarebit. I like to eat my welsh rarebit with some of the salad since the acid cuts the fatty cheese. but, I will say, it's a very good salad. my favorite part is the thinly sliced celery pieces. it has a bunch of varying greens, celery, avocado, cucumber. all dressed in a lemony dressing. it's very simplistic and that's why I think it's so good. it's quite large, and would be a great "for the table" order so that everyone has some fresh bites with their rich entrees. Welsh Rarebit: my favorite. if you don't know what welsh rarebit is, it's basically fancy cheese toast. think proper fondue cheese with Worcestershire, mustard, maybe guinness, melted on a thick piece of toast. so an open faced fancy grilled cheese. it's two big slices of toast. could easily be shared for the table but I prefer my own order. if you get this I recommend also getting the dandelion salad and eating them together. Chocolate Set: I haven't tried their other desserts, but I just know they are a waste of time compared to this. the chocolate set is a dense chocolate mousse with earl gray ice cream, chocolate nibs, and a few orange slices. it's so simple but so so good. texturally, amazing. the smoothness of the mousse with the crunchy nibs is the perfect contrast. the orange is bright, the ice cream is just great on its own and does so well paired with everything else. it can be shared 4 ways if you have demure people. my family of four just orders two and we get half each. that works for us, we would never be able to share one. all in all great service as always, great food, and obviously a gorgeous interior. read more

The menu is very eclectic yet has something for whatever you're feeling that day: the double fried chips (fries) are tasty; cod is well seasoned and fried well; bangers and mash had excellent flavor; and the Mussels were really well flavored: the crab croquettes would probably be better with more of a lump Crab but still were enjoyed, well Fried and the dipping sauce that came with it was purely divine! we enjoyed the here comes the sun drinks too!! I'll give it 4 stars because the first time I came here the experience was phenomenal. This time it needed improvement but due to the holidays I assume this isn't their regular staff and I'll time them the benefit of the doubt. Pros: The atmosphere is so lovely and feels like you're truly in the UK. Food is delicious, menu is great, and feels really authentic. Cons: The waiter took a long while to take our orders and then he forgot about my drink and it wasn't until the food came that I had to remind him. It seems like it was poured a while ago since the foam was already mostly gone. He should've asked for it to be poured again. We had to ask for spoons for our pies since the forks kept causing a mess. This affected the dining experience and caused frustration. A shame considering I was hyping this place up to my party but hopefully next time is a better experience. The food is worth it. read more

Literally the cutest English pub. We made reservations to do brunch here on our first day in the city and so glad we did. This multi-level pub feels like home with how well furnished and decorated it is, with eclectic seating areas that bring in so many people everyday you will WANT to make that reservation (I did overhear them state they were too busy at the moment to get someone seated as a walk in and the wait would take some time, so do yourself that favor) Our server Christopher was an absolute gem and very attentive to our needs! I went with an high crown coffee I believe it was called? Essentially an Irish coffee but the hair of the dog really helped out after a late night! We started with the crab croquettes which were very tasty, the mayo with saffron was a bit heavy on the saffron for our taste but just a Dab was enough. We stopped in for lunch at The Dandelion on Thursday, December 4, 2025. I'd been meaning to visit for a few years, and I'm so glad we finally did. The space is designed as a classic old-English pub, and it absolutely delivers on the atmosphere. Without fail, they even had hand-pumped beer, poured properly just like a traditional English pub -- a great touch that adds to the authenticity. This place has been on my Philly list for a while and on my fourth visit to the city this year, I finally checked it out. The English pub ambiance is nice and I loved their decor. Sat at the bar which was pretty busy. They have a coat rack towards the back but it was predictably full on a chilly night. Service was quick and friendly. Ordered an IPA and the Dandy Burger. Burger was a little more medium-rare than medium which is better than going the opposite direction. The fries, despite looking amazing, were disappointing. I don't know if they needed more salt or just to be double fried instead of triple, but they were a bummer. Overall, I enjoyed the visit and would come back again to try some of their other menu items and check out the dining area. read more

We came here for a late-night dinner (10pm) after a show at the Miller's--this spot was highly rated and recommended for late-night eats, and wow... it did not disappoint! First, can we talk buttahhhh? Perfectly salted, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and I swear it had to be made in-house. Paired with the warm sourdough bread (to dyyyyyy for), I had to be reminded by my husband not to fill up before the meal even started. For apps, we ordered the steak tartare and chicken liver parfait--both rich and flavorful. For the main, we shared the steak and chips, which was definitely the right call. To balance it out, we added the summer veggies, and they ended up being one of my favorite parts of the meal: crunchy corn, sweet snap peas, all perfectly seasoned and so fresh. The only downside was the very drunk and loud table right next to us, which made it hard to enjoy our meal. We ended up skipping dessert and leaving a bit early. A proper pub in the heart of Rittenhouse Square. Such a beautiful exterior that is only outmatched by the stunning interior. I loved all the ornate woodworking and kitschy decor. We sat at the bar and enjoyed oysters, bangers and mash, and a side of fries -- just as a "little snack". Service was fast and friendly. They have cask beer here which is pretty cool if you're into that. I don't remember if I saw Guinness on tap, which surprised me, but maybe I just missed it or they were out. I would return for more of a proper meal. Ah, the British. A people who have given us Shakespeare, The Beatles, colonialism, and, apparently, rabbit pie. My wife and I found ourselves at The Dandelion on a recent evening, nestled into the bar area, which is to say we were seated in what looked like the smoking room of an Edwardian estate, minus the cigars and imperial guilt. The service was cheerful, human, and clearly two drinks behind where they needed to be to keep up with the crowd. Still, they smiled like they meant it. That counts for a lot in this cruel, chaotic world. We began with East Coast oysters. Six of them, $21. Each one barely big enough to drown a very small regret in their accompanying cucumber mignonette. Tasty? Sure. Worth the price? Only if you're trying to impress a mollusk. Now, to the rabbit pie. I ordered it not because I'm brave, but because curiosity hasn't killed me yet, though it's come close a few times. It arrived encased in pastry armor, creamy and steaming, with rabbit that tasted like someone had introduced a chicken to a lamb and said, "Get along now." It was rich. It was strange. It was lovely. But the real star of this Anglo-culinary experiment was my wife's Shepherd's Pie, lamby, savory, hearty enough to make a Scotsman weep into his sporran. It was everything the British Empire once aspired to be but rarely achieved: warm, comforting, and successful. I washed it down with a Half and Half, dark and light, like good and evil shaking hands in your stomach. My wife had a Pimm's Cup, and declared it "very good," which in our family is equivalent to a firm handshake and hearty smack on the back. So: four stars. One off for the oysters and the overwhelmed servers, but four firmly in place for a meal that made me feel like I was in a Graham Greene novel, only with less betrayal and more gamy pies. read more

The tandoori chicken genuinely surprised me because I've had a lot of great Indian, but I thought the flavors were absolutely spot on in this dish. From the fragrant rice, to the creamy yogurt sauce and the spices on the chicken, it was fantastic. The bangers and mash were honestly pretty forgettable. Lastly, we got the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. If I could drown in any sauce, it would be that toffee caramel. It is so decadent. The cake was incredibly soft and moist as well. I loved the trout crudo, which was a fun presentation and absolutely delicious. I also ordered the fruit, which turned out to be a huge bowl, so I have enough for my lunch tomorrow.
