Philly Irish pubs, one of my favorite things in life. I ordered the shepherds pie because they actually make it with Lin extra, really Rich. Not sure if that's a good thing because I had a hard time finishing it because of the mega flavor. I wasn't gonna drink but then I saw they had layered pints and I had to get the blacksmith, which was Guinness poured over Smithwicks. World Cup is going on right now so I decided to sit outside where it was a little more quiet. It's kind of small inside in the downstairs area but upstairs has a whole lot more room. Like 99% of "Irish Pubs" in the US, this is anything but... too many TVs, no music and an uninspired menu... But hey, they have Guinness... Stopped in for dinner, didn't have a reservation and the hostess told us we had to be out in 90 minutes... I *really* hate when we're told that there's a time limit. Ordered Cheese Steak Egg Rolls the Mac and Cheese w/ added braised ribs. The egg rolls were "ok" as was the mac and cheese. It felt like everything here was just frozen or pre-made and just re-heated. Entrees came out before the apps, the server never came to check on us and we were out well before 90 minutes. Of ALL the places to go in the immediate area, this is a hard SKIP. read more

Suggested by our hotel we decided to try it since it was within walking distance. Great recommendation! We sat on the patio which was perfect for fresh air and people watching! We tried the blackened grouper sandwich, old bay fries, fish and chips, and smoked Gouda Mac and cheese bites. Made a reservation and was seated right away. Hosts were great, nice and friendly. Our server was a little snappy at the host who was doing what she was told & she was in training. For food; we ordered the Shepards Pie and a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Shepherds pie was delicious, and a great portion size. The shrimp on the salad were a good size and cooked perfectly. The caesar was ok, the dressing is almost on the sweeter side, definitely not my favorite but it was still good overall. The ambiance of the restaurant is fun and clean. This place gets 5 stars doe the food, for the Irish beer, for the service we received, and for our the warm an inviting atmosphere. The homemade sausage rolls were delicious and came with HP sauce, which is apparently a very big thing in the UK. I had the fish and chips and it was some of the best fried fish I've had. The fries were excellent, the tartar sauce provided was nice, and they have authentic UK malt vinegar to bring you. Yes, please and thank you. T had the French dip that was stuffed with meant and cheese and came with a huge bowl of au jus for dipping. It was outstanding. We were very impressed. read more

Back from a very quick trip to PA. Barely two nights. The main mission was simple. See people I had not seen in way too long. A buddy from JHS and high school, whom I had not seen in 25 years. A long overdue visit with my mother-in-law. And some quality time with my sister-in-law. That final evening brought us to Con Murphy's for a little comfort food and catch-up. Tuesday night made for an easy table for two, and the location was clutch. It is connected to the hotel, so zero wandering the Philly streets trying to decide where to eat. Just walk downstairs and boom. Dinner. Now, about 90 minutes before this meal, both of us claimed we were not that hungry. Maybe an appetizer somewhere, we said. Something light. Famous last words. Next thing you know, we are ordering full-blown comfort food entrees. Funny how the stomach likes to change its mind. I went with the beef stew. She ordered the shepherd's pie. Clearly, we leaned all the way in. Venue-wise, it has that solid, homey Irish pub feel. Comfortable. Lively without being loud. Service was just dandy. I did not catch our server's name, but he was friendly, attentive, and let us linger while we caught up. The food was good and hearty. My sister-in-law's shepherd's pie may have edged out my stew just a bit. The stew was solid, but it felt like it was missing a little something. Maybe a touch more salt or pepper. Just a small nudge to take it up a notch. That said, the portions were generous, and the value felt fair. And the fact that neither of us had leftovers says plenty. Would I go back? Absolutely. Next time, I might steal her move and order the shepherd's pie. Or try something else. Life is short, especially when it comes to pub menus. All in all, a cozy spot for comfort food and conversation. I liked it here. It's a homey feel that you can walk into any time of the day and feel welcome. The staff are friendly and gave a great descriptions of their menu items. I got the fish sandwich. It was a hearty plate and I had plenty for later. Also pictued is the french toast, my friend was excitingly satifsfied. I also got an Irish coffee, which was a perfect finish to a fun brunch. Decided to go to Con Murphy's for Happy Hour with some friends. It was busy, so I was happy that we made reservations. It was loud inside-it was almost like a bar-vibe. Once seated, I immediately ordered because I wanted to make it to Philly's Christmas Village before it was too late. Started out with the cheesesteak egg rolls. They were crispy, and the steak was well seasoned. It's served with sriracha aioli. I wasn't I fan of it, so I opted for ketchup instead. 5/5 Next were the loaded Nachos. I added the braised short ribs for an additional $7, and it was well worth it. VERY GOOD. 5/5 Nope, I'm not done yet. Next up were the blackened fish tacos. These were superb. Seasoned to perfection. All of the toppings blended well together. The fish was juicy, fresh, and tender. 5/5 Don't be upset, but I had the nerve to get both the elote street corn and the honey chili chicken flat breads, and they did not disappoint. They were thin and crispy and already cut and easy to pull apart. I want to tell you how they both tasted, but you'd be reading for a while. So I'll just say this; "Both are a must try. " 5/5 Next up, was the homemade spinach gnocchi. I thought it would be sooo good, but it lacked flavor. The sauce wasn't good to me. The dumplings were doughy and also didn't have any flavor. This was my least favorite dish. 1/5 I also had the linguini Alfredo with herbed cream sauce with blackened shrimp. 5/5 For dessert, I had the dolce banana bread pudding with sweet whisky sauce and a scoop of vanilla icecream. Was in Philly for the night at a somewhat close hotel, out walking, saw Con Murphy's and decided to give it a try. Atmosphere felt pub like. There is an upstairs, outside and main floor inside. The service was friendly, efficient and reasonably timely. The fish and chips were a good portion, well fried with flaky fish and very tasty complete with wine vinegar. We opted to go here as it was the in house restaurant of our hotel. We were seated immediately on a weekday evening. We opted the outdoor seating for some fresh air. I chose a non-alcoholic drink which they did not have on the menu and the waitress recommended a mule drink to be only option which would taste good without alcohol. The drink was fine--perhaps not crafted to perfection, but they did the job and paired well with the friendly, laid-back atmosphere. We ordered wings and pasta . They were both delivered warm. It was good but not exceptional. Quantity wise it was good for 2 people. To me it may not top my "must-eat" list, but it earns a spot for chill evenings and solid company. read more

Early evening was not too packed and there were many TVs playing differnet sports on them. Service was solid. The food on the adjacent tales looked very appetizing. We were staying at the hotel attached to this restaurant and got drink vouchers to use here. I honestly wasn't expecting much from breakfast at an Irish pub, but I was pleasantly surprised!!! We came in around 9:10am on a Sunday and were seated immediately (you can sit inside or outside). I preferred inside, and there are three big tvs (they were showing golf, soccer and football). We ended up just using our drink vouchers for orange juice since it was too early for cocktails, and then I got the avocado toast. I've never had an avocado toast come topped with corn, but it was delicious! The potatoes were also seasoned so nicely. We honestly inhaled this dish so quickly. read more

When we arrived, the hostesses told us there was no seating inside and to check the upstairs bar for spots (there were none). We decided to sit outside since there was a heater, but honestly we were still freezing so I wouldn't recommend the outdoor seating if it's cold. I ordered the avocado toast with eggs and they very clearly burnt my toast and just covered it up anyway with the toppings. Additionally, none of my food was seasoned and it was just very bland. My friend found a hair in his food. No one at my table seemed to enjoy their meals and we unfortunately left a lot of food unfinished. Service was okay; our waitress was good but the hostesses werent very nice. The wait times were long. I came to Philly due to a conference and we had a couple of hours to "kill" before the conference started and on our way from the parking lot to the conference, we stumbled into this place, very low key, in a very busy street corner... EVERYTHING IS PERFECT HERE!! My family and I went to Con Murphy's for Center City Restaurant Week. The only person that ended up eating from the CCD Restaurant Week menu was my stepmother. I ordered: -- Snickerdoodle Martini -- Tito's Vodka, Amaretto, Bailey's Irish Cream, Half & Half, Cinnamon -- Coca Cola | Lemonade -- Bavarian Pretzel Sticks -- Grainy Mustard, Cheese Sauce -- Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, Sriracha Aioli -- Caesar Salad (Small) -- Romaine, Parmesan,Croutons, Caesar dressing Everything I ordered was tasty and well seasoned. The pretzels were freshly toasted. The salad was fresh. The meat in the cheesesteak egg rolls were nicely seasoned. The service was nice. Our waitress was attentive, yet didn't hover. She made great recommendations and kept our drinks refilled. The restaurant was as loud to be expected for a Sports Bar?!? I'm quite sure it would be louder when a game is being played. After a long journey on Amtrak from Boston, I arrived in Philadelphia completely famished. Fortunately, Con Murphy's was near the hotel I was staying at, so I decided to drop in. Upon entering, I noticed the restaurant was completely packed. Nevertheless, I was promptly seated. Based on the recommendation of the server, I went with the Shepherd's Pie. Despite the restaurant being completely full, my food came out within a very reasonable amount of time. Surprisingly, the Shepherd's Pie was actually made of lamb, not beef, like some other restaurants I've been to. Overall, the pie was seasoned very well, and the salty gravy complemented the mashed potatoes perfectly. For dessert, everything on the menu looked good. My server recommended the bread pudding, which according to the menu, was served with whiskey infused sauce. Nevertheless, I barely tasted the whiskey. My dinner was pretty good, but the disappointing dessert at the end keeps this experience at 4 stars. read more

Visiting Philly for the week. Everything we had here was great. The Guinness stew, the fish and chips, the cauliflower cheddar soup, and the crème brûlée were all as good as it gets. Had the worst customer service experience of my life as my friend and I were clearly RACIALLY PROFILED and DISCRIMINATED against as we were the only BLACK customers during our time at Con Murphy's Irish Pub last Friday night. I sent back a margarita that wasnt well made. The waitress kindly took it back and asked if I'd like to replace it with another drink (which tells me that, in these cases, they have no problem replacing drinks when a customer is unsatisfied). I chose to just go with water to avoid the possibly not liking the next drink. Within seconds, the manager walked over to my table and rudely said "Just letting you know that you still have to pay for your drink, even though you sent it back. I'm the manager and I am not allowing you waste our products and not pay for them. There's nothing wrong with the drink, so it doesn't matter that you don't like it. In total shock and trying to process his words and aggression, I asked him how was he so sure that there was nothing wrong with the drink. He said "Because I drank some of it after you sent it back." In utter disbelief, I expressed that I've never heard of a customer, in any establishment, being forced to pay for something that they are not pleased with, especially when it was only tasted and not consumed. Futhermore, the saying is, customer is always right. He rolled his eyes and said "Not here!" His attitude, tone, posture and disrespect increasingly got worse as we debated the situation. We were shell shocked at the fact that we were being YELLED at, EMBARRASED by and mistreated this way by a manager at a restaurant here in Center City Philly, connected to the 4- star Windsor Suites. After trying to reason with this disrespectful manager to no avail, my friend gave up and insisted that we would not be forced to pay for a poorly made, unpalatable drink. The manager said "If you don't pay for the margarita, we are not serving you anymore drinks. That was the final straw. We asked for the bill to pay for our appetizer so we could leave. He kept the margarita on the bill and refused to take it off. He also denied giving my friend a pen to sign the bill. That turned into another argument. He eventually printed up a new bill and gave my friend a pen. As my friend was signing and inserting his card in the booklet, the manager walked to the door and guarded the exit with his arms folded. So now, we are being treated like criminals and practically potentially being held against our will. Apparently he didn't trust that we were going to pay our bill. I told him I'd be writing a yelp review. He said "Go ahead! I don't care!" This was such a violating experience. It striped us of our peace in that moment and our good time together. We were extremely negatively made to be the center of attention in a packed environment. Our waitress looked very uncomfortable with his behavior and at how it all unfolded. Not to mention, we left hungry, because all of this happened while we were waiting for our entree to be served. If this establishment does not represent racism and poor treatment of customers, this manager should be let go IMMEDIATELY. White male, with a bald head and big eyes, trimmed white beard. It is currently 2 days later, and I am still emotionally affected by this incident. I wish I could give it zero stars. read more

The location is very convenient to the convention as I go every year, but I can't say I'd ever come back to Con Murphy's or recommend it to anyone I know. The service was extremely slow, the staff actually quite rude. My table was ignored for most of the time we were there. When we finally ordered and got our drinks and appetizers, it was not anything to write home about - very standard pub fare. We didn't even finish our first round of drinks and appetizers, when we were suddenly told that we needed to leave because our table had been reserved for another party. We hadn't even had the chance to order second drinks or entrees yet. Why did they allow us to make reservations or even seat us, if they didn't plan to let us enjoy drinks and food at our leisure? On top of that, if they were overbooked, or busy, why was the service so slow? Why were there several servers grouped up in the corners chatting and audibly talking trash about patrons? I don't think I've ever felt this insulted by any hospitality establishment before. Our group ended up going to a different restaurant to get drinks and food, and the experience (and food) was ten time better. read more

I found myself in Philadelphia for work and knew I needed to have a few cheesesteaks. Con Murphy's was right by the hotel and highly rated. A group of us decided to give it a try. It was a busy evening, but they were quickly able to get a table for all of us. The ambience was warm and welcoming and service was great. There was a great beer selection as well. Unfortunately the cheesesteak was disappointing. It seemed like it was ground beef with melted American white cheddar cheese. No peppers and onions. Though it tasted okay, it didn't live up to the hype of a Philadelphia Cheesesteak. If you're looking for an authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteak, I wouldn't recommend Con Murphy's. Visited Con Murphy's for the first time as the hotel ( The Windsor ) provided us come complimentary drinks and appetizer due to our room not being ready at our arrival. Guy literally came out yelling about me parking my car in the parking deck BESIDE AND ATTACHED to the restaurant at the hotel. I understand it's a older car and the exhaust is more than a modern car however his restaurant is on a Main Street beside a parking garage. You can not stop exhaust fumes in that situation. He did help stop traffic....after cussing and yelling about us trying to mark as the vallet asked us to and that included turning to back into the garage on a one way street. Literally cussed at us and then threatened to "burn my car to the ground". If this is the staff/management they have why would anyone want to support this business. After leaving the review and coming back to my hotel the owner literally waits outside by my car to threaten my son and myself. Literally threatening wanting to fight calling me "little man". What a POS of a owner. Threatens saying he knows my business now also. How is a phyco like this even allowed to own a business??? Got the red white and blue cider - which was acidic and tastey.
