King's Highway has a charming little stretch of independent ambition, all tidy storefronts and quiet confidence. This is where you can find The British Chip Shop, which I had long intended to try, and at last my synapses and my hunger aligned. The place was empty when I entered, which always feels like it could be either a warning or a gift. A voice from the kitchen promised to appear, and did, promptly and kindly, seating me by the window like a character in a underattended play. I ordered the daily special: Pork pie, mashed potatoes, mushy peas, and added a Tango orange soda for good measure. The pork pie arrived hot and full of purpose, the kind of food that knows exactly what it is. The mushy peas were fresh and honest. The mashed potatoes, however, seemed to have lost the will to live, bland and harboring a cold, defiant lump of butter at their center. The soda did exactly what it claimed, which is all one can ask of a soda. Only later did I notice I could have swapped the peas and mash for chips, and for a few dollars more added cheese and curry sauce. This knowledge arrived to me too late, as most useful knowledge does. Next time, I will be wiser. All told, an enjoyable, slightly pricey lunch with one unfortunate spud based misadventure. Still, if you find yourself wandering this lovely town, it is worth stepping inside. Four stars, because curiosity was rewarded, if not perfectly fed.

It was refreshing to be greeted with such genuine hospitality, making dinner even more enjoyable. I immediately ordered exactly what I had been craving for. THE ORIGINAL THISTLE FISH & CHIPS! Satisfying my craving was precisely what I was aiming for. Perfection in a delightful crispy batter, paired with golden "chips" fries, tater sauce and coleslaw. [Don't be shy to ask for more tartar sauce.] It's a BYOB spot, so don't forget your favorite bottle of wine or beer, which goes great with fish! I'll be sure to bring a bottle the next time I go. Can't wait to go back.

As you enter there is a small waiting area and an ordering counter. Staff were very nice, cheerful, & accommodating while I waited for my order to be cooked and packaged. I didn't look into the dining room since this was a take out order. PROS: Cleanliness appears to be high on their agenda. My order consisted of Fried Oyster dinner, Fish & Chips dinner, and a Fried Shrimp & Scallops dinner. All came with French Fries and Cole Slaw. They also provided plenty of tartar and cocktail sauce. Additionally they have Malt Vinegar which is a must, at least for me when eating fish and chips. The oysters were cooked to perfection, as were the shrimp and scallops. CONS: The fish fillet was undercooked and the coating saturated with oil. I don't think the fryer was hot enough. French Fries were soggy because the steam from the closed containers. Easily solved by putting in a frying pan to crisp them up. Coleslaw was okay. As for Pricing, they are quite high for portion served. $30.00 for 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a mound of french fries is outrageous. I can get a full seafood platter at any decent diner or restaurant for this kind of money. I think I'll look elsewhere when I get my next craving for this type of cuisine.

Nothing that knocked me off my feet but solid enough for what they are. The french fries were exactly what you would expect. Potatoes are potatoes and it is genuinely hard to go wrong there. Now the fish, which is really the entire point of visiting a place called Fish and Chips, was unfortunately a letdown. Zero flavor. Completely bland from start to finish. There are several sauces included and I suppose if you enjoy building all of your flavor through dipping that approach could work for you, but personally I would much rather the fish itself show up with something to say. The surprise standout of the whole meal were the dirty potatoes. Those were loaded up nicely and genuinely delivered. I would order those again without any hesitation. But the fish is what I came for and the fish is where Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips fell short. Given the name attached to this concept, the expectations walking in are naturally going to be elevated. Unfortunately the fish did not come close to meeting them. For a restaurant built entirely around fish and chips as its signature offering, the main attraction needs to bring a lot more to the plate than this.

They were really hot when they arrived so they were freshly fried. Batter has a nice crispy texture. The sauces were okay. I got the Gordon Tar Tar and the Dijon Mayonnaise and they didn't really stand out with the flavors. Honestly, I couldn't taste much of a difference between the two. Food came out pretty fast which makes this a convenient stop to eat at before or after watching a show.

I also happen to be here for my Birthday. Called ahead a few days in advance that I'd like to come celebrate with a large group. Probably 20 people or so. Understood the kitchen would be closed when I got there but was assured by the hostess the bar would be open and take care of us. Fast forward to the day. Even tried to call ahead to double check we were still on for the evening. No answer. Called several times. Went to voice mail. Showed up. Not only was the woman I spoke to not there (like she said she would be to accommodate the party) no one on staff knew we were coming. We were told would could have one of the circular tables by the bar for our group (that seats 4 people). When the server told us the bar was still open the bar tender said she would only serve us one round and had to close. Totally missed opportunity for the staff to make money. Also terrible service in regard to trying to foster a community where people a certain large theatrical establishment down the street are looking to come and unwind. Had a great time here the last time I was here but they failed miserably. Won't recommend this place to anyone in the community and will make sure future people who come to work in this town don't waste their time trying to go here. Went to Old Stone down the road. Nicer vibe. Staff treated us well and it's closer to the main part of town as well. If I could give zero stars I would.

There were like five other customers placing orders. However from time of placing order and receiving food was not even a good 10 minutes. Staff was quick and friendly. I had the surf and turf box. 3 pieces of fried fish, 3 chicken tenders, 3 jumbo shrimp with fries. That was $20. I also had a slice of pineapple upside down cake. The fish was very nice sized portions. The chicken tenders where a little skimpy. The looked like when your mother say we have chicken tenders at home. BUT to make up for the skimpiness they tasted like your mother made them at home. The shrimp were a nice size. The cake take like a well made box cake. By no means am I complaining. I enjoyed the food. The box I got was big and shareable. It easily feeds 2 people. The food was hot and made in clean oil. I certainly will be going back. But next time I simply want the school street sandwich. I would say if you will not be eating immediately in your car or live extremely close by you need to open your bag and crack open the box if not you risk your food being soggy.

Instagram reels led me here - and the Yelp reviews confirmed it. What a gem!! My co-driver (that's what he is today because we had a tiff lol) loves fish n chips. So far the best he's had is in Norway. Since Norway didn't award POtuS (see what I did there) the Nobel prize, I no longer feel obliged to think purely of the peace of returning to Oslo to our favorite chippery. Deranged. Anyway, we were juggling dinner ideas tonight and I remembered this spot. Even better since my mom is in town and dying for something different. I had no idea what to expect - even looking at pics. It's a straightforward place - 3 dine-in tables, and counter seating. We opted to eat in and what a delight! Here's what we got: -fish n chips -fish and popcorn shrimp -fried clams w cole slaw -2 New England clam chowdahs The person behind the counter brought our food out to us within 7 minutes - all freshly fried, crisp and hot. The fish was moist and flaky. The chips were salty, crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The Cole slaw was divine! Soup is for tomorrow - the sneak taste I had has me counting down the hours. We got there just in time. Within 10 minutes we went from being the only people there to it being standing room only. My general seafood rule is if I can't see the ocean from the restaurant, keep it! But occasionally I'm wrong. As such, I'll be back for the lobster bites, soft shell crab, po' boys, and fantastic service! Note: it's on 22. If I was a cat I'd be down 8 lives after trying to cross back over to the Krispy Kreme for a lil something sweet afterwards. This place is worth it though. Send it!

He took my order himself, although there's also a huge tablet at the register, and he cooked and brought my food to me at my seat. He also checked up on me as I ate. My double cod fish and chips was served hot out of the fryer. The breading was crisp and clung to the fish, which is awesome, because I hate when the breading separates. And the chips were exquisite - crisp and fluffy with a nice dusting of seasoning. I was impressed that the menu offered cod as an upcharge from the standard white fish, which I dumbly forgot to ask about. I love when a fish and chips restaurant has more than one kind of fish! The sweet tartar sauce is not my thing. I prefer capers, lemon, onion, more acid. The breading was seasoned, but the fish itself wasn't.
