Cheesesteak Egg Rolls
Jeff M.

South Flavors 429 South St. Philadelphia, PA 19147 Cheesesteak Egg Rolls The egg rolls were excellent especially with the dipping sauces. The lounge style seating in the back of the restaurant provided a relaxing atmosphere.

Walking in, you get a feel of a lounge environment, mixed with living room vibe. The food selection was fantastic and the drink selection was tasty. It's a BYOB, so don't arrive thinking you're getting spirits. lol

Mango lemonade, cheesesteak eggroll platter (comes w/ cheese fries) and a chicken quesadilla.

Hungry after the car needed to be towed, we walked down South and stumbled upon this. Ute chalkboard on the sidewalk with egg-roll specials. They sounded delish so we went in and were greeted by the most friendly woman at the front counter (wish I got her name!). We received menus and sat ourselves in the lounge area which was so comfortable and chill in these cool vintage big orange velvet chairs. We ordered cheesesteak eggrolls and a chicken quesadilla which were AMAZING!!!! Everything was freshly made to order and we were in HEAVEN! The staff - everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Even the guys who cooked our food came out to chat with us. We were so pleased with the food, the staff, the atmosphere and even the music selection!! Oh, and the chairs were SOOO comfy! Definitely go and enjoy yourself! You won't be disappointed.

Jerk chicken egg rolls with onion rings. It looks small but, it's a very generous portion.

I have tried this place twice and both time the staff and I think it's the owner are very friendly. Sadly I have only had the jerk chicken egg rolls with fires or onion rings because they are so good! I high recommend the jerk chicken egg rolls and need to come back and try other items on their menu. I have never sat but, they do quick take out orders. I will definitely return and try something new.

The place didn't open on time so it was a bit frustrating waiting outside for them to open the door. Once we got in the setup is nice but someone forgot to turn on the air, ceiling fans or something so it was very hot in there. We waited about an hour for our food and considering what we ordered it shouldn't had taken that long. My veggie bowl was dominated by red peppers as you can see in the pic. The crab rolls smelled a bit too fishy for me so I wasn't sure it the meat was bad or not so I only had the one bite. The paired sauce was really good. I think this place has great potential but I likely wouldn't try anything else just bc the wait was way too long.

Food was bussing with flavor. The chef ate 10/10 recommend. Right next to Fat Tuesdays!! Please come and show support. Vibe is immaculate !

I've gone to the bar on multiple occasions to get just cornbread and an entree to go as well as when I have had reservations to dine in, I've seen people come in, just go to the bar and order take out. I'm really disappointed at this experience and it seems like every time I go to South, It's a different experience and a different enforcement of rules.

My husband, originally from Philadelphia, had heard great things about South and wanted to check it out. Our visit was a bit last-minute and we didn't have a reservation, but the front-of-house staff was incredibly accommodating, and we were seated without much of a wait. The place is cute - not super fancy but also not too casual. For my entrée, I ordered the Sweet & Spicy Crispy Duck Breast with peach demi-glace, haricot verts, and brown sugar mashed sweet potatoes. The duck breast was excellent--perfectly cooked medium with great flavor. The mashed sweet potatoes were good, though not quite as sweet or flavorful as I expected, so I didn't eat much of them. My husband ordered the Low Country Catfish & Gulf Shrimp with cornmeal-fried catfish, sautéed shrimp, broccolini, collard pesto rice, and tomato-okra sauce. He absolutely raved about every bite and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. However, the true stars of the meal were the sides. The Freshly Baked Skillet Cornbread with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter and the Classic Mac & Cheese made with a blend of four cheeses and sweet cream custard were phenomenal. Both came out piping hot and incredibly flavorful--so good that just thinking about them makes me want to go back for more. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience and would definitely recommend South. Pro tip: They also offer live music with dinner service in a separate room. Don't make our mistake--be sure to make a reservation if you want to enjoy that part of the experience! Service was pretty good, certainly attentive and she was able to corral one of my more picky guest. But the food for all of us, really hit the mark. When I heard the ingredients compared to the menu ones, I personally agreed. He really could read my vibe from just looking at me. I did like what they had on the menu, but for me, I do like vanilla and honey like type things more. I would choose this over a chocolate one even though I like chocolate too. I would be open to coming back here even on my own. 1000-2000 South used to be much more residential and just off the radar but it seems to have gentrified with 100-1000 South gentrifying too. 100-1000 South has lost that artsy vibe that you still can see in Tattooed Moms and arguably, even Condom Kingdom for just still being there from the beginning lol. If there is going to be anything to replace that more gritty vibe, Rex at the Royal is definitely a wonderful transition to get in to.

The bartender who was our server (boyfriend prefers to sit at the bar) was friendly and attentive in this service to us. Now to the most important part - the eats.... So we really enjoyed all the food we had. The Peri Peri wings were cooked pretty perfectly with a crisp outside but tender and juicy inside. We liked the concept of the Cheese steak Beignets as they did marry those two dishes well. The Mac and Cheese was doing what it's supposed to - cheesy, gooey and tasty. He wasn't the biggest fan of the tacos - think just wasn't his thing - but I liked it and that it was a different take wit the tortilla being a fried tomato. Drinks were good - the first one I ordered was ok, but my second one was exactly what I wanted! We plan to come back again for brunch and to try other dinner menu options.

I paid attention to how the staff would handle the situation. After helping the current customer, the cashier gave him a cup of juice. I didn't see any payment, so I assumed it was offered to him. As he stepped outside, I asked my husband to check if he wanted something to eat. When my husband came back, he told me he had given him money. While that was kind, I honestly would have preferred to get him food myself just to make sure he actually ate. A few minutes later, the man came back in and sat at the counter. At first, I didn't see anyone approach him, but shortly after, the staff brought him a bag with food. I'm not sure if he ordered through the take out window then came in, paid the waiter, or if it was provided to him, but either way, it meant a lot to see. He took his food and left. What stood out most was that the staff didn't ignore him, rush him out, or treat him like he didn't belong. At one point, I even heard a staff member ask if he had received his juice, which made me think this wasn't their first interaction with him. In a world where people are often overlooked or dismissed, it meant a lot to see a business show simple human kindness. Treating people with dignity and empathy shouldn't be rare--but unfortunately, it often is. For that alone, Honey's Sit 'n Eat deserves recognition. Oh... and the food is always great!
