Oaxacan smash and Pickle Beet Martini
    Komal R.

Went for a quick drink and we were both pleasantly surprised! Had the Pickled beet martini and the Oaxacan smash: both were strong and delicious.

Came here for my birthday dinner and it was such a great meal!! Had the octopus, steak, crudo, and crab fritters! It was delicious! The standout for me was the crudo and octopus. Plus the cocktails were great!! Service and ambiance was quite attentive!!

Vibes: casual, minimalistic; bring a friend or a few to sit at the bar or up on the second floor Tasting notes: - Cauliflower: excellent crispy exterior; cauliflower florets were al dente; shareable for two - Mushrooms: indulgent, slightly charred wild mushrooms with a generous topping of herbs; surprisingly spicy - Octopus: tempura battered; accompanying sauce was unique with balance of tang, creaminess, and sweetness - Smoked chicken: generous portion of juicy, tender meat; tangy sauce complemented the smokiness of the meat; salad was refreshing; loved the toasted cashews - Burger: very tall with good ratio of bun to meat; side aioli was addicting to dip the fries into - Queen's gambit: ginger forward, subtly sweet, easy to sip Other thoughts: - Noticeably quieter on the second floor - Above meal was very satisfying for two hungry adults - Appreciate our attentive and thoughtful waiter who also had the kitchen cut the burger in half for easy sharing - Plates and silverware were switched out between small plates and entrees Impression: great for a casual night out with a curated, choose-your-adventure type dining experience from grazing snacks to big plates!

Came for Valentine's Day Food was pretty good but menu was really limited for the holiday and while making the reservation we were not informed that would be the case, didn't see anything on their instagram about a limited menu either. The cheesecake was the highlight and the cocktails were above average. But overall the experience wasn't worth nearly the price we paid. We spent nearly more than double that we would have considered fair for the portion sizes and quality of the food Our Server was great but our mains took a really long time compared to the apps and the desserts and I'm seldomly shocked by the price of a bill when it comes out but tonight was definitely the case Can't say we will be coming back based on the price and portion sizes alone. Weve spent less for much more at more well renowned establishments

Cute spot! Friend and I went on Saturday night after dinner just to grab drinks. There were plenty of bar seats. There were a lot of drinks that sounded good - we both went for the spritz special which was a cucumber melon spritz. It was very refreshing! The bartender was great and it was a nice chill place to end our night.

Fancier side of happy hour menu items. They have outdoor seating, bar seating, and some tables. Their cocktails were delicious!

First time at Ember & Ash last night. One of my good friend's wanted three of us to gather to be in solidarity with each other post-election-nightmare-news. It was a great decision (not the outcome of the election, I *mean* choosing Ember & Ash as a place to gather. ) I started things off with the beet martini. This drink composition is wonderful! Pickle Beet Martini- stateside vodka, house dill pickle brine, beet juice, caraway... Delicious! I wasn't put off by any of these ingredients but didn't know how great they would work together. We had a 3 cocktail dinner and I never strayed from my original order. Wasn't even tempted. (And the color! Gorgeous!) The local grain focaccia is a necessary order. So fresh and good with whipped butter. It is also a delight to have because you will want to dip this bread into all the delicious that comes with orders like the tuna tartar or the whipped burrata and beets. My entree order was the stuffed cannelloni. Chorizo, octopus ragu, smoked tomato, sherry cream and olive crumb. This dish was tasty but I thought my dining partners choice (both of them) of the smoked chicken was a much better decision. The chicken was so smoky and beautifully cooked. I definitely recommend. This place is cozy with the open kitchen in the rear of the restaurant with the wood fire visible that gives all of the food here such delicious flavor. I'm definitely going to return. And when I do, I will definitely order that pickle Beet Martini again.

WOW! Was looking for a place to celebrate our 21st anniversary. Found this with a yelp search. Remembered reading some articles on it. Decided that the few negative comments were individuals' personal opinion. And booked a reservation. When we got there, at first it was empty and I thought....oh, I shouldn't have bothered with the reservation. But within 20 minutes it was packed. During the reservation process, they asked if we were celebrating anything special. I jotted down that it was our anniversary. Usually, most places they greet you with a "happy anniversary" and that's it. Nope! They had special menus printed out for us that said Happy Anniversary (the people seated right in front of us said Happy Birthday Lee). They also served us a glass of complementary champagne with our dinner. And both the server and the manager mentioned it. It was a truly sweet touch. They were exceedingly busy. But I watched as the two servers and the manager worked as a team....seamlessly handling everything. It was amazing. They did such a great job. Both the manager and the server kept stopping by our table...checking in....working together. Now the food.....OMG. The food was amazing. We ended up splitting everything we had. We went from offering each other a taste as we always do....to....omg that is good....to....here's half. It all worked out. After the meal, we were full....but decided that since everything else had been so good....we couldn't miss on dessert. Dessert menu was dropped...with a...."the cheesecake is really good"....normally my husband would skip it. But he was in. And the cheesecake didn't disappoint. It was just as amazing as every other thing we had eaten. We loved everything about this place from the welcoming vibe, to the stateside vodka glasses, to the staff, to the cooking. Thanks for a great evening!

Super cute pumpkin painting happy hour (for kiddos!)
    Selena H.

We attended a lovely kid-friendly happy hour event with some friends! They dedicated the upstairs to pumpkin painting, which our kids LOVED and I enjoyed a nice glass of wine while the kids went to town. I wouldn't say the menu is kid-friendly, but my kids surprisingly explored a bit more than usual, and really enjoyed the crispy potatoes (as did my husband and I!). The sliders were also excellent, according to my 2 year old and husband. Meanwhile the wine list was excellent, service was fast even with the number of families with small children upstairs, and they had the Phillies on the bar TVs and radio upstairs. Afterwards it was a short walk to get the kids ice cream as an after dinner treat.

Had the most wonderful time at Ember & Ash. The food was incredible. The manager and staff were warm and welcoming. The service and the atmosphere were great! Now onto the food: Perfectly crispy cauliflower, with the most delectable sauce, beautiful crusty sourdough with grilled avocado, a melt in your mouth, vibrant, spring-time gnocchi, and a flavorful strawberry tart were among the highlights of the meal. 10/10 Excited to return soon!

This was my first stop for dinner in Philly and everything was delicious! It was a short walk away from our AirBNB, so I got to see a bit of the neighborhood as well. The restaurant is small, but very sleek and welcoming. I liked the big windows letting in sunlight. I was so busy catching up with friends that I can't remember the name of everything, but the cucumber dish was easily my fav. It was so pretty and the flavors were poppin. I tried a cocktail and a wine, both hit the spot. The only thing we didn't try was dessert since we were so full. Our waitress was on it all evening and gave great suggestions. There were people filtering in and out throughout our meal and the bar got more packed over time. Seemed like a great spot to get an evening cocktail or have a date night.

This restaurant is amazing. I ventured here with friends while visiting town for the weekend. It's such a fun neighborhood spot located in South Philly. The space is surprisingly large with an upstairs that can seat larger groups. We had a reservation, so I would recommend making one for bigger parties. All of the food we had was incredible. They do mention each person should have 2-3 small plates. Our group felt the estimate was a little high and you could get away with ordering less. We felt 1-2 per person and were perfect, with most of us ordering pasta dishes as our main for the meal. The cocktails were unique, but they also have a full bar if you want something classic. I definitely suggest trying this out if you're looking for a great dining experience. Cheers!

Came to Ember & Ash for a cute girls night catch up date. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and clean. Love the wood accents and dark colors against the light furniture. We got a few dishes to share and it was great for our evening. The roasted half a chicken was really well cooked and the flavoring sauce was excellent. The pasta dish was delicious, really well balanced and savory. The bread, well who doesn't love bread. Light airy and wonderful in the oil. Our service was great, attentive but not intrusive since it was a week night and somewhat slow. Overall the menu is compact but very well done and is right on Passyunk Ave so easy to either get a night cap or cup of ice cream and stroll along to end your day.

It's not a bad thing. Just very nondescript. It's a small place but I love what they did with this concept. It's unique and I wish them much success!! This is a set Kayamanan menu. No substitutions or accommodations. The food is plentiful and delicious. The garlic rice has a nice rich flavor. The vegetables are in a coconut milk sauce. It's flavorful but a little too heavy for my liking. The chicken was probably my favorite then the pompano fish. The chicken skin was crispy and the meat was moist. The fish was cooked perfectly. Crispy skin and flaky fish. The pork belly!! Not really my thing but it was on the meatier side than expected. Loved it!!! The highlight for me was the lumpia. I never had it before but now I need this in my life! Is this the best out there? I have no idea but they are now on my list of favorite things!!!! Due to my allergies I couldn't have the dessert, which is a chocolate and nut thing. The server was so gracious and brought me one of the pre-dinner sweet rolls. Then a coconut gelatin dessert. It was totally unnecessary but greatly appreciated!!

A little pricy for what it was ~$70 per person after tax and tip All of the proteins were very well cooked - fish was flaky and moist, the chicken was extreme tender. And the lumpia and pork belly were both crispy and well seasoned. All the sauces were extremely delicious Only downside was the balance - far too much rice in relation to the amount of vegetable curry and protein and neither of these were particularly flavorful The interior was also pretty small although service was attentive If they improved a little on the flavor of their carbs and curry base and provided a little more value for the cost I think this would have been a knockout meal

From the paper sign on the front door with handwritten sharpie reading "Roxanne (its a restaurant)", I should've known this would be an interesting one. I walked in for my 8 PM resy on a Saturday night and the place wasn't even 1/4 of the way full. There was one server taking care of all the tables, rightfully so. It took forever for the server to remember I was sitting there and to come take my order, so that was a rough start to the meal. I ordered 3 items and it was time for the meal to get started. First came out the raw prawn starter, which was just okay. Nothing really stood out about it, which kind of made it a chore to eat given that this dish was such a rich texture and mouthfeel to it with no contrasting textures to balance out the slimy richness. Next up was the scallops starter. Also was an extremely rich and creamy dish that would've benefitted from a crispy/crunchy texture contrasting ingredient being added. Got through these two starters and my stomach was already feeling very heavy from the richness. I was kind of regretting getting the entree that I chose after those two starters as my stomach couldn't really handle any more richness. But I chose the richest dish of them all, the duck breast entree. The sear and cook on the duck was great, they nailed it there. It came with a semi hard cheese, preserved strawberries, marinated peppercorns, and a rich sauce. It was pretty tasty and I liked the flavor contrasts of the fruit with the cheese and rich duck flavor. However, again, this one needed something crunchy mixed in there to offset a yet-again overly rich dish. The duck entree was pretty good, but I really regretted ordering it after those first two dishes. Overall, from the vibe of feeling like you're sitting in an illegal dining operation inside of someone's home art studio, to the subpar service even on a slow evening, to the lack of contrasting flavors, textures, and tastes of the dishes, this is definitely not a place I will be returning to.

Our reservation was for dinner at 8 PM on a Tuesday (8/5/25) with the set menu, and found we were the only ones with this time seating. It made our meal more intimate and special, as if we had rented out the whole restaurant for ourselves. We emailed Chef Alexandra pretty last minute (see email on website), so we were ecstatic that they could accommodate our request for set menu dining. The friendly service throughout our meal also echoed the welcoming nature of Roxanne as an establishment. Chef Alexandra, the amazing one-woman team, honestly wowed us with the set menu. Upon first glance, basically every type of protein was on the menu for us! As a whole, the plating was so whimsical and fun, and the portions were very generous for our party of 4. Around halfway through the meal, we were already full. The extensive menu started off with the appetizers of a baguette, beef tartare, and a shrimp cocktail. The baguette was regular, the beef tartare felt fresh, and the shrimp cocktail had a fantastic spicy cocktail dipping sauce. One of us just started drinking it like a gazpacho since it was so good! The next segment was the confit tuna, chicken, crab, salmon, and duck. The tuna was maybe less memorable than the delicate tart it was served on (and the hand the tart was served on), which really made the dish whimsical. Honestly, the next dish was most shocking dish for me personally- the chicken on a bed of hot sauce and sweet melon, which was such an interesting combination. I had my doubts, but it was such a perfect interplay of flavors! It really subverted my expectations. My personal favorite dish was the crab gnuddi, with its perfectly chewy bounce and generous healings of crab. The slice of duck was amazingly tender and juicy, but the other dishes were the stars for me. Lastly, dessert! Our dessert was a coffee crème brûlée and basque cheesecake. Once again, the plating and theatrics at the table, such as the pouring of cherry sauce over the basque cheesecake dish by Chef Alexandra, really made the meal memorable. For me, the crème brûlée was too sweet (as it should be!), but I really enjoyed the basque cheesecake! Plated like a fluffy cloud, it was airy and balanced perfectly with the sour cherry. I'm singing high praises for Roxanne, and highly recommend it as a "fancy" dining experience. From the service to the ambiance to the food, the all-in $190/pp price tag was well worth it. Although it's past my price point for frequent dining, it was really such a memorable experience!

The choice to go here was made due to the fact we have an engagement in South Philly. However, Jen simply pulled up a list of places in the area and picked here. After looking at the menu though, we knew we had likely locked in on a perfect place. Not only is the menu extremely extensive, but it also has an almost unending plethora of Mexican and Central American inspired brunch choices that had me trying to make selections two nights before we were even going to go. After stopping nearby at the place we needed to attend first, we leisurely made our way to the 1700 block of ninth street, and were amazed to find parking right in front. From years of working in the area and dealing with parking and driving here, finding a space with absolutely zero issue right off the bat was already a recipe for success and obviously just a sign of the boon to come. The little cafe is tucked away into what appears to at one point, likely many years ago, to have been a classic center row home. It's not an end property, and despite the space inside being quite roomy for what it is, it's a narrow corridor with the seating up front, prep and serving area in the center, and kitchen in the rear. Very cute, and everything inside has this older wooden feel to it, as if plucked from an old bookstore. We only had the opportunity to converse with one staff member, our server; she was not only wonderful, upbeat, and friendly, but also helpful, guiding us to a nearby location to get banana leaves for tamales I planned to make later in the week. That's just the beginning because I haven't even gotten to the food. This was one of the best breakfasts I have had in a very long time. The Huevos Enmolados was so outstanding, not only did I finish the perfectly build stack of tostadas with all the ingredients stacked deliciously on top, but also asked for a small bowl of tortilla chips to scoop up the remaining mole that had become its own unique sauce amalgamation with the runny eggs and cheese and other flavors. I cannot overstate how wonderful this was. If I could have physically stomached a second meal, I would have ordered a complete second portion and eaten that too. Jen's carnitas skillet was also outstanding, although I only had a taste. We also had a side of scrapple which was delivered perfectly crisp and molten inside, steaming hot like forbidden meat-lava. Even the local classics are done perfectly here. Not only is Izzy's 33 worth visiting if you live in the city, if you are in the area at all, this place warrants a trip for breakfast or brunch. It is a premiere experience at a reasonable price especially for the city. I am sure there may be places that have a different selection, or may be preferable to some people, but for everything they offer, I don't think they can be beat; at least not easily. Do yourself a favor and get in here today and enjoy some of their unique offerings. I can guarantee that you'll enjoy.

It's situated right near rittenhouse square so it's a bustling and great area. The spring festival was happening is it was PACKED! We were seated by a window and immediately given water. We ordered some lattes that took quite a while to arrive - we learned they have one coffee machine so things were backed up! Our serve apologized profusely and they gave us a sweet treat on the house at the end of our meal. I ordered the frittata which was delicious and my husband to the omelette . We also got the drop biscuits with strawberry rhubarb jam and omg am good! Our brunch was great and the interior was modern but felt homey and we had the best service and the manager also came to see things were going. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to come back next time I'm in town!
