We usually make a stop in Philly on the way home from either Christmas or Thanksgiving. We stay at either the Kimpton Monaco by Independence Hall, or here at the Kimpton Palomar by Rittenhouse Square. For Kimpton Palomar, the bar/restaurant is Square 1682. It's at the corner, and off the lobby, so stands on its own in addition to being a haven for hotel guests. We stopped in the evening for drinks and then took wine to the room, but then came back in the morning for breakfast. The service is very, very good. Staff are friendly, prompt, and helpful. No issues. The ambiance is a modern hotel bar, upscale. It's a welcoming enough space, with a variety of seating options. The food was great. For breakfast I forget the exact name, but it was basically a play on cheesesteak but as an eggs Benedict. I love a good Benedict for brunch, and this hit the spot. The potatoes were OK. They were really crispy and good, generally but there was some pockets that were oversalted, like the balance was off. Recommended, but not a full 5 stars due to the salting. read more

What a disappointing breakfast. We shared the Philly Special. I will say it was good size portion, but the flavor could use work. First, the home fries were overly salty. I generally like stronger flavors, but this was too much. It overpowered the other flavors, so while the spices and other flavors were good, the saltiness made it difficult to eat. Oddly enough, the Benedict itself was under seasoned. I couldn't even tell if there salt in there. The Benedict portion tasted rather bland. The one good thing about the inconsistency was that I could combine the fries with the Benedict to balance out the flavors better. Also, when they described it as pork, I wasn't expecting a pulled pork consistency. I will say that the service was good overall. They were attentive, even asking if we wanted an extra plate for sharing before we could ask. It is also a nice ambiance. I originally did not want to write this review because I believe every place deserves at least two chances (and sometimes it can be an off-day). However, after hearing someone else who stayed at the hotel say they had similar experience with the food at dinner, I felt I needed to write this review. In Philly visiting my daughter and she suggested we check this place out. Walked in and seated immediately. Went for lunch on a Wednesday and not really busy, but not empty. Credit to the bar for having one of my favorite scotch's, Lagavulin 16. We grabbed the Cornbread, which was the reason for the visit, and didn't dissapoint. Creamy soft butter was key. I ordered the Cheesesteak, because for some reason I have to get a cheesesteak in Philly, certainly one of the better ones. My daughter grabbed the Korean Chicken Sandwich and was satisfied. MY PICKS: Smoked salmon avocado Benedict with roasted breakfast potatoes. Perfect runny center and flavorful potatoes. Delicious 10/10 Philly cheesesteak: good quality beef but not enough cheese. The toll was a bit lacking in texture 7/10 Service was a bit delayed- I waited nearly 7 minutes to be offered a beverage and had to ask for a menu. Once we got passed that hurdle it went well. Cindy!! Cindy can manage a large rowdy crowd. We had not seen each other in a while so loud conversations, passing of foods, not hearing 'I have a steak and eggs' was in effect! We all received our food hot and at the same time. That takes practice and it is rare to find. Cindy kept us busy by keeping the drinks coming, laughing and being personable. It's always the soft skills for me I had the classic breakfast and everything from the perfectly cooked eggs (no brown) to perfect turkey bacon (cooked with slight chew/crisp) the potatoes and sourdough (you have options) was a .chefs kiss. My wife had the burger and I had a bite. Juicy and flavorful. Fries cooked perfectly and seasoned ever so lightly. Everyone had nothing but great things to say about their food. I think it was Cindy though. They could've messed everything up and we wouldn'tve been mad because Cindy kept it professional, personable, light and jubilant. Great brunch option!! The space is cute. Restaurant located in our hotel so we stopped in for breakfast before driving home. Didn't have a reservation so sat at the bar. We both ordered the breakfast burrito and it was outstanding. It was so good that I took my leftovers home. Large portion and very satisfying. The accompanied beans were a nice addition. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't good. Bartender was attentive and we received our food in a timely manner. Would certainly recommend popping in if you're already staying at the hotel. read more

Square 1682 is our choice for breakfast this morning. I had the omelette with caramelized onions and spinach, which was absolutely delicious. I can tell they actually use real eggs as opposed to egg beaters. Don't forget that the yolk of the egg is the healthiest part, contrary to what has been discussed in previous conversations by the health department. The yolk contains the cholesterol that our brains actually use. Anyway, I digress. I also wanted to give a shout-out to the Kimpton hotel. It's definitely one of the nicest mid-level hotels we've been to in the U.S. It's clean, and the staff is extremely respectful and helpful. When we are in Philadelphia, this will be our hotel of choice. I also had breakfast with an espresso martini, which was all right. I would certainly visit this place again! read more

After searching for almost an hour for a place that had Irish coffee and good breakfast, we settled on Square 1682. It was a short walk from our hotel and quaint inside. I only wanted a simple breakfast and they did deliver. That also had the good turkey bacon, so that was great. My homegirl wanted an Irish coffee, that is one of the reasons we chose this place initially. The first one they brought out, she looked at it and then sipped it and immediately said that wasn't right. The bartender took it back and quickly brought out another. I watched as she poured it into a tall glass mug instead, then added more coffee. Sad to say it still wasn't made correctly. That day I learned it isn't just coffee with Jameson. The restaurant is inside the hotel and if you need to wash your hands you have to go up to the second floor. However, you have to use your room key so good luck with that if you just go for food. My experience here was great. I came here on the last day of SIPS seeking something more lowkey and the place delivered. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the variety and quality offered on a SIPS menu but was more surprised by the staff. These people work as a true team. The bartender Sam was great and the waitress whose name I didn't get because I was at the bar was so attentive as she let me know they were short staffed hence why she was at the bar for a while. If she didn't tell me I wouldn't have known she wasn't the bartender. Literally, everyone from the busser to the kitchen staff demonstrated teamwork. We stayed at the Kimpton hotel for 3 nights and paid the guest amenity fee every day which included $20 credit towards this restaurant, plus the breakfast package which included a free American Breakfast for both guests every morning. The breakfast was great every morning and the happy hour food and drinks were also great. The service was always friendly but a little slow at times, but this was when it was more crowded and the manager was always around actively checking on everyone. I also have to say their signature truffle fries were very good but so were their regular fries! The prices seemed a little high outside of happy hour/guest paid services but still worth a try. read more

I have been meaning to make this comment for weeks. Just getting to it now. For 3 Tuesdays in August my Sisters & Friends have gotten to partake in one of Philly s Only Buck a Shuck Night. This space is cozy & open at the same time. We sat at the Bar. Each week we had a different bartenders. They gave the very best service, not exaggerating. The very Best!! They really cater to your needs. Already enjoying ourselves, I mentioned( not too loud)to one of my friends how back in the day establishments offer lite snacks at the bar. Next thing I know, Alex(bartender for the night) placed their fresh popcorn in front of each group at the bar. It's one of the sister's birthday the next day, out comes their amazing chocolate cake to our surprise. Service is just as important as the food, drinks or atmosphere. The food is delicious. Love the Happy Hour options. The PEI Oysters are to die for. Each week they change up the garnishes. It has been a while since we dined here. My fiancé and I had an absolutely incredible experience at Square 1682! The staff was so kind and welcoming, and everyone we interacted with congratulated us multiple times on our recent engagement. We had a delicious, fairly-priced meal, and the staff surprised us with a free slice of their chocolate mousse cake - which was delicious! Our server Jazmine was a sweetheart and was very attentive, and the bartender was very friendly. The restaurant itself was clean and well decorated, with a nice view of the church next door - which made me contemplative about my fate and how I will feel when I face eternity. Good happy hour fare. We visited Square 1682 during happy hour on a Saturday, and it was mostly empty. The standout features of the restaurant are the television behind the bar, dark wood tables, and comfortable faux leather chairs for sitting. We tried the broccolini and truffle fries to eat, and I ordered a glass of the house Cabernet Sauvignon to drink. The broccolini had a good flavor, but it was definitely undercooked. The truffle fries were tasty and were paired with a great aioli. I enjoyed my wine too. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Square 1682 and would recommend them for happy hour in Philly. read more

We have eaten at this restaurant for breakfast, brunch, and dinner, and we've also popped in just for cocktails and snacks. The food has been consistently good and the drinks are really good. All of the servers we have had were very friendly and helpful. (But the speed of service has been inconsistent; we suspect this may be related to understaffing. Just something to keep in mind if you're in a rush.) They offer dog friendly sidewalk seating and a small, separate food menu for dogs. This is a hotel restaurant but it will go into our regular rotation for being pet friendly and for having a nice drinks program. read more

We went for Sunday brunch around 11am. We actually called that same morning for a reservation on a very busy weekend and we were surprisingly able to get a table for 8. If you didn't know, this restaurant is attached to a really stylish boutique hotel. It doesn't have its own bathroom. Instead, you have to go to the second floor of the hotel for the restroom which is accessible via elevator or stairs. The host at Square 1682 was extremely friendly as was our waiter. Our party maybe waited 10 mins to sit. I ordered the Wings and Waffles with a side of eggs and Turkey bacon. Those wings?? So good. Crispy and moist with a nice little zing and spice but not overwhelming. You only get 4 wings, but there should be more! And those waffles. Amazing!! They have little sugar crystals inside so each bite is crispy, but soft, warm, and deliciously Sweet. I didn't need to douse it with syrup. I as able to just dip eat bite and have enough flavor and sweetness. Im not from the area but when I return for a visit, ill definitely be coming back for brunch. read more

Wonderful staff and food. We went in for a late "snack" and had such a lovely time. Kaine, with Angelo joining, provided amazing service. We had mocktails (mine was the best I have had), the burrata appetizer, the morrocan cauliflower entree, crème brûlée, and strawberry sorbet. Each one of those was wonderful. The flavors were so good (and unique) All of this and lovely suggestions and advice for out of towners to maximize our Philly experience. I got the Wilson (not exaggerating, best cocktail of my life, best balance of fruitiness with hint of ginger). My partner got a beer, I think Miller Lite. For philly brunches this place is great. You won't have to wait and they have a very typical menu. They don't have an impressive view right now due to all the construction. Our food was good and the drinks came fast. The booths are beyond uncomfortable to sit in and very old. You sink probably to chest height while seated there. Returned last night for dinner and the food + service still gets a 10/10! The salmon was so good last time I ordered the same dish again. The seasoning is great and the potatoes w/caramelized leeks compliments the dish so well. An easy dish to devour! Plus it's not heavy whatsoever! My friend ordered the stewed oxtails, which I will probably order next time. If you are starving, order this dish! Very heavy with big generous portions. We agreed that it needed more seasoning and that the dish wasn't bold enough. My friend kept adding hot sauce with every bite. After I tried her dish, I agreed it needed that extra seasoning. Overall, great dish with a lot of oxtails, rice and plantains! We also shared the cornbread with honey butter, which is always a winner in my book! The restaurant offered 3 courses for $40 and next time I will know to just do it! At the time, I didn't think I would be eating that much or need dessert. However, my bill for half the cornbread and salmon was $42 so I should've done the chef tasting menu to get a third dish added to it. Great experience and I will be back! read more

I needed a place to meet a client and found this place available around 10am on a Saturday with no wait for a table. Aesthetically the place looks nice but there's room for improvement like making sure the tables especially that early in the day are not sticky. My client and I ordered the two eggs your way with breakfast meat, potatoes and toast. The presentation was nice but the cold food was not. Why were both my scrambled egg whites and potatoes cold but the sausage was not. Same for my client. We informed our server and she took our plates away and brought us two new plates of hot food shortly after. The meat choices are chicken sausage and pork bacon which is fried hard and crispy (not to my liking so I'm happy I ordered the sausage). My husband and I stayed at the adjoining hotel for two nights, and frequented square 1682 often during our stay. The food and atmosphere were wonderful, but the service is top notch. Rey and Angelo were behind the bar and were stellar! Excellent customer service, awesome personalities and top notch service. We cannot recommend enough! The general manager (didn't catch his name) was very friendly and attentive. You can see his superb leadership shining through the rest of the staff!
