I visited MilkBoy the last time I was in Philadelphia, so when I realized I was staying nearby this time, I had to stop in again. I originally went in planning to have one drink and get some business stuff done. Well... one drink turned into another drink, and then I decided to order a Summer Kale salad with Chicken. And honestly, it was exactly what I needed! The salad was simple, fresh, and made with basic ingredients--nothing over the top, just perfect. The staff was cool and laid-back, and I love the atmosphere. It's open right out to the street, so you can sit back, relax, and watch everything happening around you. Definitely a great little spot to chill, have a drink, grab some food, and enjoy the Philly atmosphere. I'll definitely be back! read more

MilkBoy is one of my favorite local joints to get a drink[1]. Sit at the bar and watch the game[2], or at a table and people-watch - they've got lots of windows. During nice weather they'll open them, and there's also sidewalk seating. This bar isn't corporate. (Why sit at Iron Hill or Hard Rock Cafe?) Friendly staff, especially if they recognize you. This is another restaurant I have walked by on my way to the Hospital or Rothman for appointments and each time I say I am going to check it out. This time I had plans for another nearby restaurant but walking by and seeing the outside and semi outside seating after a very long winter and a delicious looking salad just beckoning me in was all I needed to change my plans and head right in the door. The place has a very trendy vibe and open air establishment during the warmer months. The Chicken is tender and flavorful and they have a variety of Sandwiches and Salads. Fries were good too but there is a up charge for fries. Pricing was a bit on the high side for what it was but the place was a great place to sit a spell and enjoy the beautiful evening. A chill spot to grab drinks and hang out. Our waitress highly recommended and espresso martini and it was fantastic!! I like sweeter drinks and I will say this drink was honestly a tad too sweet even for me but I did enjoy it regardless. The raspberry cocktail with gin was also nice and refreshing. Solid place for a late night catch -up session with friends in a casual spot! Their hot chocolate drinks are so rich and sweet--I literally get it everytime! The food is nice, basically your typical bar food. Portions are good and definitely filling. Depending on when you go (like past 8) it can get crowded...like VERY crowded. There have been several times where I had to stand or my party of 3-4 had to be split up before we could get a table (but this usually resolves quickly). Noise levels are pretty loud so you may have to yell a bit, but overall a great time. read more

I've been here so many times! From my own friend's shows to most recently I was there for a Jazz concert with Butcher Brown. Great show! Love the venue and how intimate it can be. Previous to that I was there for an indie-pop/rock concert which I loved a lot too. The drinks at the main bar downstairs are great! Service is always cool and accommodating. The upstairs bar just has the essentials and a few beers on tap which is fine when watching a show. I always enjoy my time at Milkboy, hope you do too! read more

Stopped by for a drink and ended up ordering some food, too. This is such a cute place with great vibes! They do have live music upstairs, which I highly recommend checking out. Downstairs is a tight but cute bar with tables and I believe 4 tvs playing sports. Love the fact they have a variety of citywide specials all day! We ordered the chicken quesadilla and roasted butternut squash hummus. The hummus was out of this world and gets a 10/10!! Soooo good that my bf and I could not stop raving about it. I would recommend anyone to give this a try with the soft pita bread they offer. Honestly, we had zero complaints about this dish. The quesadilla on the other hand was just okay. Wasn't bad, but not something we plan on reordering. It was stuffed with a bit too much cheese to our liking. If you are hungry and love cheese, that's a good option for you. I bought a burger and fries but the plate was too small to cut the burger. Everything just got way too sloppy. It all just fell apart when I tried to cut in half and ask the toppings slid right off the burger. So I decided to wrap the untouched half and the fries to go. I also ordered some mozzarella cheese sticks but they were all out and suggested I try the cheese curds which I did. Wrapped those to go too. Sorry didn't like at all. I'm embarrassed to say when I got to the nearest recycle bins I threw everything away. I'm ashamed of myself for wasting $43 when there's so many homeless and hungry people living in Philadelphia. Options for food are pretty standard. I will say their chicken Caesar wrap was absolutely delicious. They do charge you an extra six dollars to have a side of fries with any sandwich though which is interesting. I love a good visit to Milkboy! I had the daily special, the Chili cheese dog and it was phenomenal! I normally go for the breakfast burrito or the fried cheddar jawns. The food was great, atmosphere is always one to be apart of and the drink selection, wow! This visit, I came with a friend who too enjoys the ambiance of Milkboy, we met two new friends at the bar, enjoyed the music AND appreciated the fact that it wasn't crowded. At times, this can be a crowded location but either way, I've had great visits. Oh! And the bartender, Jess was everything the evening of my visit. I have been to Milkboy a handful of times for shows and it is a pretty fun venue for an intimate show. I have never eaten here but the drinks are always good and they have a decent selection of beers to drink on tap. The music venue is actually upstairs so it is not handicap accessible as far as I know. (please correct me if I am wrong). The venue is long and skinny. There are always good vibes. No coat check but I always just hang my coat on the hooks on the walls in the back and no one has stolen my coat. The stage is at a good level so you can see if you are further back. If I get another chance to see a show here, I will definitely be excited. Tickets are usually around $15-20. I have bought online and the venue uses Seetickets. Came in for dinner at the bar. The cheesesteak (chicken, not ribeye) was great, and served BLAZING hot, which I greatly appreciated. And those McDonald's-esque salta shoestring fries worked wonders. The Pharmacist cocktail that I tried was pretty light on booze, a common thread that I'm finding more and more now when I dine out. And maybe this is a Philly (or state of PA) thing, but I was charged $10 for my neat pour of Maker's, plus $2 for it being a neat pour. I get charged extra for no ice? Let me tell you, I'm not exaggerating when I tell you I had the best green bean fries of my life here. Perfectly fried, so crispy, perfect salting, amazing flavor. I have dreams about eating these green beans again... The cauliflower cheese steak was delicious too, but nothing stands up to those green bean fries. This meal was the perfect way to start our Philly trip! This bar is so cozy, and has a really laid back atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Always an amazing time. The sixers game was on so it was pretty quiet while people where getting into this important match. The city wides we ordered was the Shot & Beer. It is basically Straub Amber Lager with Heaven Hill Whiskey. I really appreciate the combination of a different type of beer when used in compliment with a liquor shot. I do wish the price point for a city wide would be a bit lower like 5-6 dollars but I get it that they are using more "craft" style of beers than is offered with most citywides. I think the Amber taste of the beer really complimented the whiskey. read more

AVOID. Heat wave nightmare. Stopped in here to get a drink and it was hotter than it was outside. I truly could not believe it. When I inquired about the AC, there was no timeline on when it was getting fixed. How? I felt horrible for the staff and bartenders. My husband and I came to Milkboy for burgers after seeing the Bob's Burgers movie. We had been to the Milkboy on South Street in the past and remembered loving the burger there, so it seemed appropriate to do a follow up after a movie about a family that owns a burger shop. We seated ourselves next to the open garage door to catch some fresh air while staying out of the windy/breezy day on Saturday. A server came over quickly with some water for us. We scanned the menu with our phones and placed our order -- two burgers, one medium well with cheese and one medium with bacon, a side of waffle fries, and a side of green bean fries (not a lot of vegetable options). The food arrived pretty quickly which surprised us given that I ordered my burger medium well. After biting into them, they were both not hot inside so that was even more puzzling, but maybe the breezy air got to them. The burger itself was a thin-ish patty with a very thick bun and wasn't a good ratio of meat to bun. They didn't skimp on that cheese though and for an extra $2 add on, that was good to see. The waffle fries were what you'd expect. The green bean fries didn't do much for me -- the tempura batter was thick in some places and rather flavorless so it just kind of hid the green beans. That might have been my first "fried" vegetable so it was a good lesson -- I wasn't a fan. Overall ... a bit disappointed! The bill came to $42 -- two burgers, two sides, and water. That seems outrageously overpriced to me but I guess we can all blame inflation for some of that. I wouldn't take Milkboy completely off my list but next time I'd probably try some sliders instead -- saw those going around and they looked delicious! read more
