I had wanted to come here for sooo long and I should have gone sooner! Sassafras bar is soooo good! Since it was Valentine's Day we had about a 10 min wait to get seats at the bar - not bad. We both ordered a special cocktail - pornstar martini - and wowwwww it was so good. We didn't have time to stay for more unfortunately but I can't wait to go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great ambiance and our bartender was awesome.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy. Classic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came with wifey before dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Our server Nick was polished and helpful and attentive and appreciated. Drinks, a Sazerac and Pomegranate Martini were perfect. Will be back

Sassafras is housed in a historic building from 1870, full of vintage charm. We visited two years ago for drinks and decided to return for a meal. Our bartender, who also served as our waiter, was excellent and made sure we were well taken care of. The pomegranate martini was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The chicken sandwich was packed with flavor, served on a soft roll with slaw, and easily the best dish. The brisket sliders were tender with smoky BBQ sauce, though the portion felt small with only two. The fries were a highlight, perfectly seasoned with herbs and absolutely addictive. Sassafras is a great spot for a cozy meal or drinks.

Great spot for creative and/or classic cocktails. The drink menu has so many options no matter what liquor you are looking to have. Food is also very good-I recommend the burger!

What a gem of a cocktail bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fantastic ambience with a gorgeous bar and walls in a beautiful tile.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Amazing assortment of classic cocktails with great service. Had both a gin fizz and the Sassafras gin gimlet - Amazing! And the double smash burger with tots. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great little space to take a break for the sightseeing of Old Town.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice bar, friendly service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came right when they opened and they quickly filled up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pretty extensive cocktail menu, plenty of options for each liquor of choice. I got the lavender champagne which is what it sounds like, champagne with some lavender flavor and blueberries. It was good, the lavender was subtle.

Love sassafras bar! I don't know why I don't go here more often as they have great cocktail and food menu and friendly staff. My friend and I met up for a drink and decided to get their whiskey fries and olives. We devoured them! As for our choice of cocktails, we got the Paloma and Saint Rick and they were perfect! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small neighborhood bar in old city neighborhood and offers a great ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Usually I struggle to finish a meal at most places but holy cow, there was no way I couldn't not devour my whole double smash burger. Juicy, saucy, and just overall yummy. My counterpart got the Sassafras Burger and although they would never admit it (out loud) the sentiment stands. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a pretty small bar in a historic building and some fun things to look at all around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was amazing and accommodating seeing as they were willing and able to make a mocktail for us when asked. Really makes me wish this were my local spot.

Stopped here for drinks before dinner and it had an amazing atmosphere! It has a dark ambiance and is great place to chat with your girls without having to scream over loud music. The drinks were well made! They have a selection of cocktails based on what type of alcohol you like.

This place has an old world vibe that feels mostly authentic. The wood and stone on the bar alone are worth the trip. Bartenders in vests and bow ties -- old school. How are the drinks you say? Kept us there for a couple of hours on a chilly day. Negroni, martini, espresso martini, and Oaxaca Old Fashioned. I didn't even know Oaxaca had an old fashioned but the chocolate note was refreshing and not too sweet. The bartenders have a lot of knowledge, so feel free to delve beyond the drink menu. Or -- order a Paloma or French 75 if you want good but boring. Tater tots great too! (But those are hard to screw up).

Other than getting to the ladies room, are there any steps either getting into the restaurant or inside the restaurant itself?

Yes, I believe two steps to get into the restaurant. There's a downstairs bathroom too(I use it and it has never been an issue).

Yes they do. They have tables set outside, and at night they close off a section of 2nd street. There they have a tent set up where it can shield you from the elements, yes it's still a little cold but you can still enjoy those amazing cocktails and…

Our cocktails were crafted with care and they were perfect. We all enjoyed our entrees immensely but dessert is a must save room option-The spice cake was delicious and the creme brûlée is one of the best I've ever had! Our server Max was wonderful- he checked on us often and made sure that we had everything we needed. Tiny pockets of garden squares with burbling fountains. Cobblestone streets. Around every corner is a sign or plaque boasting about this city's history. From the outside, it looks like you're walking into an old bank. Inside, it's just about 6:00 PM and the place is packed for happy hour (one of the few places, by the way, that has happy hour until 7:00 PM) and for one of the monthly talks sponsored by local science museums. As soon as I walked in, they found us an open spot right up front. A cheery waiter took our order - the $8 burger sliders didn't come with any fries, but they were tiny and delicious. I love the idea that this place sponsors monthly science talks. Just a bunch of nerds all gathered here to listen to local experts talk about different topics. One week it might be about rare Galapagos birds to how to preserve fossils or the etymology of vampire lore.

With the help of Yelp, we found this place. First off, the building that houses National Mechanics is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and for good reason. The pub/restaurant occupies the old Mechanics National Bank, a majestic Greek Revival building, built in 1836. Inside the restaurant, the surroundings contrasted greatly with the outside. The large, primarily wooden interior has the feel of a vintage pub. It is equally as beautiful as the front. The service at National Mechanics was great. Though the staff was clearly running shorthanded, every employee we came into contact with served us with a smile and couldn't be friendlier. The food, at least on that day, was mediocre at best, unfortunately. While the menu was filled with all sorts of tempting dishes that already made us thinking of future visits, we opted for the Mexican Burger and the Ribeye Cheesesteak, two twists on old pub standbys. Sadly, we were both disappointed in our meals. We did start off on a bright spot, food-wise. My friend and I opted to share the Batter-Fried Pickled Green Beans, which were fabulous! Too bad the good food ended there... The description of the Mexican Burger sounded amazing, with avocado, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, Monterrey Jack cheese, and chipotle mayo. My friend said it was kind of bland and it was quite greasy. My ribeye cheesesteak did not match well with its "Amoroso" roll and the steak itself was dry. In the end, we were both disappointed in our choice in a lunch spot. Perhaps it was the large crowd of diners and little staff that made it all come out a little...off. In the end, I'd try National Mechanics again if I were in the area, as the atmosphere and service made it a cool spot to dine in. Hopefully the food will be better next time.

Unlike others, we felt the portions were not too small. Overall a very respectable dinner showing from Almanac. I kind of regret ordering a pre fixed cocktail because his Omakase was so on point to what he asked for and was delicious. I love rhubarb and Gin is my usual spirt of choice, so I didn't want to pass up the Hanamachi Rikki, but while I found the tart rhubarb refreshing, it fell flat when placed next to the Omakase. While I enjoyed the music choices, he did not and it was also INCREDIBLY dark/moody which isn't our preference, but makes sense for the intimate vibe they are clearly going for.

As a Northern Liberties resident, I've visited Fringe Bar several times and have generally enjoyed the experience before my recent experience with the manager. Unfortunately, my visit on June 13 around 4:30 PM completely changed my opinion of this establishment. My friend and I were seated and waited nearly 20 minutes before our food order was taken. Our server explained that their ordering system had gone down.... We were understanding and patient but to be honest it felt like she forgot. About 10 minutes later, we finally received our drinks, and our server shared that management had continued assigning her additional tables despite the issues, making it difficult for her to keep up. We sympathized with her and gave the staff plenty of grace. After waiting another 30 minutes, nearly an hour total since arriving, we still had not received our food. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching another table that arrived roughly 30 minutes after us receive their meals before we did. At that point, I approached Henry to ask about our order. I explained that we had been waiting for nearly an hour and that guests who arrived significantly later had already been served and they needed to hurry up with our food because we were hungry. Before I could even finish speaking, Henry interrupted me, stated that he would comp the food, and told us to leave. All I wanted was an explanation and asked that our order be prioritized after such a long wait. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, Henry immediately escalated the situation and effectively removed us from the restaurant. The interaction felt dismissive, unprofessional, and completely lacking in customer service. Even another manager appeared surprised by how quickly our order was canceled and how the situation was handled. The entire experience left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected. Mistakes happen. Delays happen. What determines whether customers return is how management responds. Unfortunately, Henry's arrogance, poor communication, and inability to handle a reasonable customer concern ensured that I will never return. The attached photos include timestamps documenting our visit and the lengthy wait and a photo of Henry so you can avoid him. DO NOT COME.
