This was the place people told us to try for breakfast. It's located inside the Reading Terminal Market which is a huge food hall with shops and restaurants. We got there just after 9am on a Friday and were able to snag two seats at the counter. The service was quick and the food was great! I just got eggs and toast but it was all fresh and delicious. The real star was the homemade jam and freshly squeezed OJ. It's loud and chaotic in the market but that's part of the whole vibe!

Fantastic bacon jam sandwich, tasty blueberry pancakes. Friendly service and lively atmosphere. Reasonable prices too.

It's simple. I last reviewed them 12 years ago. I've been back more than once since then. And nothing has changed. The consistency and simplicity of this place is something to be proud of. In a market where all sorts of food is available, it's equally as special to sit here and just get a hot turkey sandwich smothered in gravy with mashed potatoes. Because the mashed potatoes will be the best you've ever had. The turkey will be fresh off the bone. The whole meal will feel as comforting as a warm blanket on a winter night. It's one of the few places where I consider the prices to still be reasonable for what you get. There's nothing like a good Amish meal. Sometimes I'd rather get this than a fancy small plate bougie meal.

Ive seen this place all over social media as a must try. Its located inside the reading terminal market. Lines are long but quick. I was really excited to try their hot apple dumpling as I seen everyone rave about. I was a little bit, disappointed to see that all of them were already premade and package along the display window in a plastic to go container and all they did was microwave it in the plastic (ugh microplastics!) and then it was an option for you to add whipped cream or not. It cost $5.99. It was just OK. It was an amazing. I felt like it was a little bit doughy and not fresh at all when I had it maybe I went on a bad day. Our family did enjoy their breakfast pancakes etc but we wouldnt recommend the apple dumpling. Staff was great!

My go-to's are the oatmeal (can request brown sugar, butter, milk, blueberries), hash browns (can request them to add onions, peppers, and even crispy), and their BEC sandwiches. They definitely put a lot in one sandwich, so the sandwich alone can do the trick! Their pancakes are huge and taste good. Service is quick and they are always the nicest people to interact with. The ambiance is the market lol, and they have a diner service for people to sit at the counter and order fresh food. It's a very popular spot, so prepare to wait in line.

Straight to the point, I gave this place 5-stars because it did what exactly what I was expecting it. Provided good food at a good price. With that out the way, I can elaborate a bit more. At the time of me writing this, I was in town for the "Battle of the Legends" football game between NSU and DSU and decided to stop by the Dutch Eating Place at Reading Terminal before the festivities. I had a strong craving for pancakes, and this spot absolutely delivered. I ordered the blueberry short stack, and while there wasn't anything particularly fancy or over the top about it, it hit the spot perfectly. The pancakes were fluffy, the blueberries were fresh, and everything tasted delicious. At $8.75, the price was right and the portion was just what I needed before game day. If you're looking for something simple, tasty, and satisfying, I definitely would recommend the Dutch Eating Company.

This was our first time eating here, and right away we noticed the staff are Amish, which added to the charm. While waiting in line, we struck up a friendly conversation with a local regular who raved about the fresh ingredients and great food. Once seated, we were greeted with a smile by our sweet waitress. I ordered the spinach and mushroom omelette -- it was fresh, though not particularly memorable. What did surprise me was the homemade strawberry jam, which was absolutely delicious! We spread it over the French toast, which was light, fluffy, and really hit the spot. Service: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Value: 3.5/5

True amish cooking. Delicious breakfast and lunch options. Be prepared for crowds and limited seating. I was able to order my breakfast and receive it within about 20 minutes on a very busy Saturday. The pancakes were good and the butter was amazing. Homemade scrapple was also delicious. The cashiers were extremely polite and accommodating. I will definitely return to try the apple dumplings. Def recommend :)

Nice diner style spot within Reading terminal market great for breakfast and lunch. Everyone there is quick to help take your order and make you feel at home. You can watch them make everything in the kitchen right from scratch. Prices are great as well as nice portion size. Omelet was a good size perfect for a hearty breakfast. Big pieces of sausage and nice melted cheese made it great on a cold morning. The toast was toasted perfectly and had lots of butter already slathered in between. Home fries also fried up nicely. Thanks

Fantastic! So fresh, delicious, and hearty. Hits the spot and some of the best pancakes I've ever had. The chipped beef and scrapple is also 10/10. The orange juice is a must! Service is so kind and attentive and I quite enjoyed that it's a quick counter meal.

Hot Apple Dumpling W/ Cream

Maybe I'm just not the intended audience but the french toast was meh, the corn nuggets are more fried dough than corn and the hot apple dumpling was just a 4/5 for me. The prices and the service are great, I just might not like Amish food tbh

I sat down at this diner style restaurant inside Reading Terminal and received service immediately. I had a bacon and cheese omelet and a cup of grits. The portion sizes were very generous. My omelet was great. The bacon was crispy and plentiful. The grits were grits. They have a special house strawberry jam that sits on the table. It's delicious. But be warned though. Use in small quantities. I think it's 90% sugar. I tried a few eateries in The Terminal during my few days in the area. This is the only one I highly recommend.

We stopped for brunch and this place did not disappoint. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but the staff did a great job keeping things moving and getting people in and out quickly, so our wait was short. The atmosphere was lively and the service was great even with the crowd. Definitely a solid spot for brunch if you're looking for great food.

Ask the Community - Dutch Eating Place

About how long does it take for the food to be prepared? I'm planning a trip with folks, and we're on a pretty tight time schedule.

The pancakes take maybe five minutes to make. All of their food is prepared really quickly but the only hold up would be if there is a line for seating or takeout.

What time is breakfast over?

Usually around 11 AM but they are sometimes kind of flexible if you want pancakes or something like that later.

Do they serve waffles?

They do serve waffles but only when it is a waffles and fried chicken lunch special every third week (i.e. you can't order just waffles at breakfast).

Hello. What time do you stop serving breakfast?

Breakfast is served until noon Tuesday-Friday and 2PM on Saturdays

Are there any Gluten Free options on the menu?

What David said is correct. No GF menu, but there are things you can order without bread. They make apple dumplings, so if you are allergic to wheat, that would be bad.

This was my first time actually trying it and it definitely lived up to the hype of the Yelp reviews. My wrap had chicken, hummus, lettuce, and feta, and it was so delicious. My chicken was very good, very tender and seasoned well. It also had a great creamy hummus to tie all the other ingredients together. The feta added just enough saltiness to balance out the rest of the flavors. All of the ingredients were very fresh, and my wrap was extremely soft, yet still maintained its form completely as I ate. I also ordered a Nutella hot chocolate. It was delicious! It was my fist time having a Nutella hot Chocolate. I usually just get a normal hot chocolate. The pita chips served as an additional side item with this sandwich and proved to be quite enjoyable. The pita chips had a good crunch and were able to pair with the wrap very well. I ended up eating all of the pita chips! It was a great lunch and I enjoyed my wrap! I would likely order from Café Square One again in the future, especially, if that wrap is still on their menu!

Some new items on the menu so I figured I would go through a new review:…read more Carrot Soup: This replaces their old root vegetable soup, and they thankfully kept it vegetarian. It was much better than their root vegetable soup, and I was quite fond of that soup. It's honestly nothing like anything else on the menu. It has an indian? maybe? taste to it. It's so good. there is these juicy white raisins inside, some sliced almonds (not treenut friendly), and some sort of white yogurt sauce with micro greens. really a fantastic flavor pallet and the actual soup texture is smooth minus the toppings. Cashew Hummus: okay so here's my thing. I find that this restaurant in particular does such a disservice with their menu item descriptions. Based off of the description of this dish, I would think it's probably decent at best, and might not even order it. luckily I had a sixth sense to know this would be amazing. it's truly so good. it's a hummus layer topped with a bunch of seasoned roasted vegetables and chickpeas. The flavors are great and the textures are also great. I wouldn't have known it was cashew hummus if you didn't tell me. it's honestly not that large, so if you really like vegtables and hummus i'd get your own or split with only one person. if everyone is demure, it could go four ways. also! I don't think it comes with bread. it didn't come with bread this recent visit, but I am not sure if that was a mistake or that's how it is. But, to be safe, i'd save your bread you get at the begining to use for this. this is a must get every time I go. Dandelion salad: I only order this for my welsh rarebit. I like to eat my welsh rarebit with some of the salad since the acid cuts the fatty cheese. but, I will say, it's a very good salad. my favorite part is the thinly sliced celery pieces. it has a bunch of varying greens, celery, avocado, cucumber. all dressed in a lemony dressing. it's very simplistic and that's why I think it's so good. it's quite large, and would be a great "for the table" order so that everyone has some fresh bites with their rich entrees. Welsh Rarebit: my favorite. if you don't know what welsh rarebit is, it's basically fancy cheese toast. think proper fondue cheese with Worcestershire, mustard, maybe guinness, melted on a thick piece of toast. so an open faced fancy grilled cheese. it's two big slices of toast. could easily be shared for the table but I prefer my own order. if you get this I recommend also getting the dandelion salad and eating them together. Chocolate Set: I haven't tried their other desserts, but I just know they are a waste of time compared to this. the chocolate set is a dense chocolate mousse with earl gray ice cream, chocolate nibs, and a few orange slices. it's so simple but so so good. texturally, amazing. the smoothness of the mousse with the crunchy nibs is the perfect contrast. the orange is bright, the ice cream is just great on its own and does so well paired with everything else. it can be shared 4 ways if you have demure people. my family of four just orders two and we get half each. that works for us, we would never be able to share one. all in all great service as always, great food, and obviously a gorgeous interior.
