One star due to their customer service department. I ordered an online gift card to be mailed as a birthday gift and used here in Seattle. During the ordering, they switched the recipient email from the one I designated (its question number two on their form) to my Paypal account.... and never mentioned they switched it. Birthday came and went, no email. I looked like an idiot thanks to them... AND when I told Customer Service they messed up, they said it was a known issue with PayPal. I then asked to have them resend it, albeit late, and they wouldnt even do that. They said "If you have access to the email that we sent this gift card to, you can simply forward it to the recipient." Ridiculously bad customer experience, and they couldnt have cared less about improving it. I WILL NOT SHOP THERE AGAIN. read more

A cook's dream! Practically everything you can think of and then some. Not as pricey as William Sonoma but with the charm of Seattle. This store is always crowded unfortunately but the staff extremely amiable and accommodating. I couldn't stand it in there and had to get out there were so much people. Yet, always a fun place to shop for gifts when it isn't crowded. read more

I love this store far more than I should. I could spend a ridiculous amount of money here. I try to wait for the sales, particularly around black friday. They have everything, but not everything is good quality. It is great that if you order anything off the website, you can return it to the store. I ended up getting a rather expensive set of stainless steel cookware at a really good price and I am very happy with them. I've had them a year and they have held up really well, and once I got used to them, are much better than non-stick, which has to be replaced regularly. So many little gadgets. I love all of the silicone cooking spatulas. The Seattle store is pretty small in size but they still seem to have it all. On this occasion I went in to buy a large stock pot. The staff was helpful and showed me all of the stock they had that would fit my needs. Good experience, I got something that meets my needs and does a few extra things. Now I can also steam veggies and use e pasta basket. They carry higher end stuff and despite the price tag I have always felt good about lifetime value of my new stuff. read more

If you're a kitchen gadget junkie like I am, this is the perfect place for you. Because it is the first one, the layout of the space is less than ideal, cramped even. However, I love walking through and dreaming of being able to wield all the gadgets in house. I like that they give knife demonstrations as well. read more

I wish this store was in St. Louis. I was able to get some Bodum 12 oz cups for a good price (buy 4 get 6). They also had a mini tart tamper that I haven't been able to find in stores. They carry a variety of brands and the people are very helpful when you're looking for things. read more

It is with a tone of great superiority and satisfaction that I rate the ORIGINAL Sur La Table store. I used to go there years ago on shopping visits to Seattle, and was always charmed by its selection and style- reminiscent of the greatest cooking store in the world- Dellherin of Paris... such memories... Now of course they have capitalized and become another overpriced and unexceptional chain, but call me sentimental, their Seattle store will always hold a special place in my heart. read more

Great shop for gourmet chefs, Shun knives to die for. Miyabi and Kramer Damascus steel knives with beautiful natural art work. Got a Moroccan Tagine. Salesperson ("Jacob") didn't open box to check condition and we found a small chip in the clay pot when we got home. Usually they check with delicate or expensive items (delicate in this case). So check your stuff before you leave. He also fumbled the $10 discount thinking it was a 10% discount. D-uh. So he banned the other cashier from honoring the coupons,and that backed up the line. I helped him with the math and things got straightened out. Then he erroneously said "his store" didn't sell individual flat ware, ... after walking around a bit, ahem ... We found some. So shop around the store before you take Jacobs advice. Otherwise a greeeeeat store :) read more

My very favorite Sur la Table, I love it. Location, great staff, its so the opposite of William Sonoma where everything is perfectly spaced and lit. This place is tight, crammed full of stuff, and there is the helpful person who goes to get the item you want from the back. Love the place, it's a favorite and whenever Im at the market it's a must stop place. read more

I live in Alaska and I had a list of gifts to buy at sur La Table. I really like your store but when I was there last week, I had a terrible backake and I sat down for a few minutes on one of the steps while a very helpful lady looked for the gifts I wanted to buy. Suddenly, this frazzled young man, approached me and started a tirade on how the fire marshall of Seattle would fine your store, if they caught me sitting there, and on and on...I was really disappointed on the way I was treated. I bought the gifts for my daughters anyway, but unless your customer service improves, I will not come back. read more

We ordered a John Boos Butcher Block Table through Sur La Table, as we thought the service would be much better than if we ordered though something like 'Wayfair' . Instead it was a disaster. A trucking company called last week to arrange delivery. They made it clear, they would need 2 strong men to unload it as it was the 48" size. The day arrived for delivery and as I am looking for a truck, a 1960's beat up VW Van pulled up with a boy driving and a 97lb girl. I was astonished. We had paid for white glove delivery. Instead we had to find friends to help unload (the girl could not do it-and why should she have). I asked and found out that the VW van was the boys personal vehicle. old as the hills and no shocks. Inspection of the item was sort of a joke, it came dis assembled. They left and had to return as they forgot to leave the lag bolts for assembly. Also was missing was the $10 bottle of wood conditioner we purchased. I first called Jon Boos Co., thinking they would care how the product was dealt with. They did not, nor did they offer refund for our missing product. Calling Sur La Table was even worse. They tried to dodge out of compensating us (And did in fact) and blamed Boos. My husband (who is never reactionary asked me to be sure to get a refund on the missing item) I was unable. Sur La Table was horrible in their apparent lack of interest and customer service skills. After years of patronage, we will NOT go to them again. read more

I was disappointed in their customer service. I bought a cutting board there that was expensive. I have used the cutting board and cared for it, as recommended, for two years. It just started to crack. I brought it back to the store in hopes that they would be able to help me. Instead they gave me a number of a wood working store that might be able to repair the board. Because of this recent experience, this store will not be my first choice when making a kitchen ware purchase. read more

Ok, here is one from France oh and one from Germany but 90%+ of their products are from China! The former Owner started this Company locally here in Seattle but not the Products. This is a review of Sur la Table online, to describe some really terrible customer service. Just over a year ago, I ordered an OXO steel winged corkscrew. I've had good luck with OXO products, and this one looks stout. It worked great, until about a month ago, when the corkscrew shaft broke while being screwed into a wine cork. The corkscrew had never been dropped or misused in any way, and had never been used for any purpose other than pulling corks out of wine bottles. This was clearly a defective product -- it should certainly have lasted for many years; the $4 versions you buy in the supermarket do. Feeling that this corkscrew hadn't performed as it should have, I sent Sur la Table a message on their "Contact Us" link on their website, describing what had happened. I got a cheery message in return, telling me that my message had been sent to the "right person," who would get back to me within 48 hours. Five days later, when I hadn't heard from them, I sent them an email at customerservice@surlatable.com, asking them to please respond to my earlier message. No reply. So, three days later I sent another message from their "Contact Us" link and got the same "we're sending your message to the right person, you'll hear back within 48 hours" reply. 5 days later, again no response. Finally, concluding that they were not going to contact me, I called their customer service line. After describing what had happened and that I had given up hope of hearing back from them, the customer service person asked what I wanted them to do. I told him that I wanted the corkscrew replaced. After consulting with his supervisor (I felt like I was buying a used car), the agent informed that I was out of luck, that the corkscrew was out of warranty, and they would do nothing about it. I've been a customer of Sur la Table for many years, and have spent many hundreds of dollars there. I am in their system, so they can clearly see that I have been a good and long-term customer. That they would first stonewall me, not responding to three different messages, and then stiff me over a $20 piece of defective merchandise (it's probably the least expensive thing I've ever bought from them), is unacceptable. I live within walking distance of their Kirkland store, which has been very convenient. Nevertheless, I know where Mrs. Cooks is, and they are about to become my new cooking equipment store. Merchants that care about their customers and want them to return, don't do business this way. If they sell a customer a bad product, they make it right. That, apparently, is not the Sur la Table culture. read more

The worst customer service - they only warranty the product for 60 days so if it goes bad or breaks you are on your own - I placed a cooking utensil in the dishwasher - nothing stated not to do so - the entire finish came off - they basically said "too bad - - you had it for more than 60'days" - any company that does not stand behind their products is one I will not shop with - too bad as I have shopped there for years but if this is how they reward customer loyalty -'they just lost me' read more

i like this place! it's close to the market, but on the fringe, so you don't have to get sucked into the pandemonium if you don't want to. i have been coming here every few months to get random cooking implements (tart pans, gnocchi board, offset spatula, skillets, knife covers, etc). the stuff can sometimes be pricey, so it's worth checking prices on your phone (silpat was $26 at sur la table, $19 on amazon). that said, probably 3/4 of what i find here is priced lower than online and has good reviews online. where this place really loses points with me is the customer service. most of the employees are really friendly and helpful, don't get me wrong. it seems to be the managers/supervisors that are the main problem. for example, the lines are always really, really long. once, i was standing there for what seemed like forever holding some really heavy pans. it was around the holidays, the store was bustling, but they only had two registers going! wtf? then, a manager comes up and thanks us for our patience and then wanders away to do some straightening up. UM, hello??? open another freaking register and get this line moving! that's basic customer service! i have worked in service for pretty much my whole life, and to acknowledge that customers are waiting and then to do nothing about it was just offensive. i wrote the company and they responded quickly (i know, i'm crazy! but that's just how it is.) but, i was just there yesterday and the same thing... three registers at the south entrance with three staff members trying to move the line along (one was alternating between bagging and ringing up on the third register). the manager was within earshot, watching the lines form, talking about how much peanut butter and celery he had, been eating lately then a few minutes later, comes over and asks us all to move along the wall, then stands at the top of the stairs and just watches. so, i ask the cashier while pointing to the manager and ask, "uh, so is that guy going to come help you guys ring up the rest of these customers that are waiting, or what?" and the guy just stares at me. no attempt to help the cashiers get the lines moving. extremely disappointing. this is their flagship store, too! i feel like if you have your main store in a busy downtown area with other upscale shopping, you have a certain "experience" that you are almost obligated to provide to your customers. it should have the most complete product lines, it should be clean and welcoming, and the staff should be the best of the best, because that store should be the model for all of the other locations. they get the first two mostly right, but oh my god, do they fucking suck at customer service. I am just starting to get in to cooking more now that I bought a house and so I thought a trip to Sur La Table would be just what I need to fill my now much larger kitchen. I was overwhelmed by the selection of items they had at the store. The front part of the store is mostly pots, pans and knives and the upper level is the baking tools. The store has a nice selection of items for every price range which is great because it allows everyone to shop there. The downside, everyone shops there and the store is quite small. I ended up getting frustrated and left without picking up everything I wanted because it was far too crowded to really look at everything. But the service that I received was fantastic. I was asking for something specific and the woman said that she would hand me off to someone on the lower level when I was upstairs. I figured she would just walk off and I'd have to find someone by myself. NOPE!!!! As I started to descend the stairs there she was talking to another associate about what I wanted to I didn't have to say it again. Even though my frustration with the crowd caused me to leave before I completed my list, I would definitely shop here again!!! read more
