World Market in Belltown is such a fun little treasure hunt. It's the kind of store that turns a quick stop into a full-on scavenger hunt. The vibes are good all around, the staff are friendly, and there is always something interesting to find, whether it's decor, kitchen stuff, snacks, or some random little gem you didn't expect to fall in love with. On this visit, I came across this gorgeous cabinet that immediately made me stop and take a picture because it looked like it belonged straight out of Hogwarts. I did not buy it yet, but I am still thinking about it, which probably tells you everything you need to know. That is exactly the kind of place this is. You go in for a casual browse and leave wondering whether you just found the perfect piece for your own Room of Requirement. This is a good sized location and it was across the street from Cafe Remix because I had to wait 40 minutes for my soufflé pancake, so shopping there gave me something to do. The Halloween stuff was already out so it was fun to see the Halloween display. They had cool things like truffle butter chips and shredded roasted Kaitafi, which I'm going to fold into some Nutella or frosting to add some crunch to it. My favorite oddity was a bottle of drink that was blue and it had a picture of the shark on the bottom rear of the bottle, with a tiny swimmer up at the fill line swimming. So cute. The only bummer was watching some homeless guy scream and steal stuff from the aisles. You get the feeling the staff is used to this because they didn't do anything to stop him, probably because he'd wreck the store if they did, but that's what happens when you live in a blue city where they let crime run amok. Maybe next time I'll steal that bottle of Kaitafi and Jaws beverage since they won't do anything about it. Why should I have to pay if he doesn't? read more

TLDR: Profiling, refusal to apologize after incorrect accusations, and overall rude staff. I used to like this World Market spot because the products offered were nice and it was a great place to get unique gifts and whatnot. I made a decision yesterday not to go back after a couple of my own bad experiences and a bad experience my boyfriend had. The way the staff treat you there does not make the product worth buying anymore. I'll start shopping online again I guess. Anyway, here's the reason: A long time ago, the World Market staff tried to stop my boyfriend from leaving the store because they assumed that he was stealing something. He was not. I'm sure they profiled him because he was wearing sweatpants or something. Then another time I went there to pick up an online order, and when one of the staff members brought me my bag, she lost the paper that was supposed to be stapled to the bag in the back room and didn't realize it. When it was time for her to hand me the bag and do whatever she needed to do with the paper, she proceeded to ask me several times if I did something with the missing paper when she wasn't looking, was speaking to me rudely and looking at me rudely, and kept insisting I MUST HAVE done something with it. FINALLY, she went back to check the original location of the bag and found the paper she was looking for. At no point did she apologize for how she treated me once she realized I had nothing to do with the missing paper. I find it incredibly rude to accuse someone of being suspicious and then not acknowledge your mistake once you realize you were wrong. The last straw was when I went there again recently and got the same cashier who was again giving me attitude for literally no reason at all. Both times I have had this cashier I have been incredibly nice. It's like she's upset that I am there at all. I try to be as kind and easy-going as I can when I'm a customer because I have worked in customer service and the food industry before and I know it's a hard job. But I have never treated someone with an attitude just for being a customer, even on my bad days. Anyway, I bought one tiny thing of perfume and was stopped at the door by another security person to show my receipt because I suppose this is some new policy now. If you buy anything, you have to show a receipt now even if the security dude at the door literally just watched you check out and purchase your item. The staff at this place treat customers (or perhaps only *certain* customers) as if they are entering some sort of small high-end boutique that only a few people can afford while everyone else entering is probably a criminal or something. Well, this place is not a small high-end boutique. It's World Market, a chain with several locations across the U.S. for crying out loud. Your products are expensive but not THAT expensive, and not everyone who can afford your products are going to be white, blond, skinny women in yoga gear or whatever you are looking for in a customer that I am not. Please recognize that World Market is just an overpriced department store like any other, and then adjust how you treat customers accordingly. Thanks. read more

I have always liked World Market and I don't really see any of that changing. On occasion I get frustrated with changes in their product and realizing what I used to get here isn't available anymore. Their craft beer selection seems to have shrunk but I think that is just a reflection of the public tastes shifting as lots of people are less enthused with craft beer. And then there is the chocolate bars that I can no longer get here, Vosges Chocolates. Granted you can't beat the chocolatier's own boutiques for this but it was nice to get here. Probably my latest situation is some of their deodorant here in their small health and beauty section. Some brands here I purchased went fine but the Mountain Sage from Barrel and Oak while it held promise ultimately did not give me the protection I wanted despite it saying 24 hours. And I am not so sure that it was a matter of failing in odor protection but that it was organic and I have problems with these before as time goes on they can smell a bit "saucy" or an unwashed smell. But despite getting a lesson learned with this brand there is still a lot that I enjoy with World Market and I have always liked their lamps, furniture, dishes and their holiday decor. read more

My favorite place for European snacks. Specially during Christmas time things remind be of home. I love German ginger cookies, mozart chocolate, tea collections and much more. Also recently discovered Irish truffle chips Keoggs! They are so delicious. Some things are seasonal there like a lot of Italian easter biscuits and cakes, french jams and holiday specials. I find the best gifts for friends, family and myself. They have a nice collection of feminist stickers, books, cards - I've really found lovely treasures here. There is furniture, chocolates, all types of unique and different items. They also have a nice card selection, housewares, furniture, baskets - similar to Pier One but different. I like just walking around without anything in particular in mind and I always spend at least $100. I highly recommend joining their free points program - you'll get emails and more of reason to wander around leisurely. I've been a fan of World Market for years, an almost more eclectic version of Pier 1, with a twist of adding in food & wine. I don't always find something I'm looking for specifically, but I tend to find something else while I'm there. This store downtown was in an odd spot, an odd layout and didn't flow well. I get that they have to work with the space they have, especially when it isn't the traditional square shape and this most definitely was not. It was clean and organized, and I left with minimal items; which tends to be odd when I'm shopping out of state. A couple people working and polite when passing by. Oh and their own label of flavored coffee is pretty great if you like that sort of thing. I have an over abundance amount of it in my pantry right now. read more

Came here for Christmas shopping, I just love this store. They have so much assortment of unique items from around the globe. Just what the name implies, the kitchen/home, seasonal stuff, food, decors, old school toys, European candies and chocolates, candles, condiments, wine, sodas and many more. Just a fun store to wander the aisles, and you will end up with something not found anywhere else, little trinkets and treasures. Quite disappointed in world market pick up for 20% off. I put an order in because I found some really nice things at good prices and most I saw in the store. For 15 days the website kept saying that my order was processing. I finally got in touch with them and they said it was actually canceled because at least one of the items was not available. I've then proceeded to have a chat and a phone call with world market , which was quite frustrating. Was on hold for a while for management, but got tired of waiting. So please be cautious. If you're going to think that a pick up order will work out successfully. The least they could've done is offer for me to go in the store and get an extra 20% off. read more

My husband mistakenly called Cost Plus World Market "Cost World" one day, and that title has stuck in this household, because that's what it is. (Not because it's particularly expensive as a whole, but because we want to buy all of it.) There's such a fun international selection of furniture, décor, houseware, foods, what could arguably be best described as toys but for adults; we like coming here especially around the Christmastime, checking out the advent calendars and the cakes and the beers. We've picked up games, candles, lamps, specialty foods and accoutrements here: a selection of gourmet salt, rare and unusual hot sauces, chocolate Santas - even a Franziskaner stein. It's a lovely afternoon if you're into foreign novelties and candied curios. There's also Cloudburst brewery right across the street, if you're into that sort of thing, and lovely coffee next door at Anchorhead, with Locust Cider & Brewing Co. attached to that. CPWM is always great when you are looking for great speciality items and seasonal goodies too--a wide selection of shelved products from other countries that wouldn't be in the grocery store. If you like places like Pier One and Trader Joe's this is your kind of place. It's like Pier One and Trader had a baby and this is their love-child. At first I thought this place only had house decorations and such, but it turns out they have a large selection of all kinds of food and wine too! I loaded up on all kinds of exotic dried spices like rose petals and lavender and chilis. They also had a jar of strawberry marshmallow creme, which I scooped up. There were all kinds of other cool stuff, like exotic soaps, lotions, hanging outdoor string lights, fake flowers, outdoor mats, curtains, area rugs, furniture, vases, dishes, plates, etc. The parking is odd; you pull up to a teeny-tiny looking metal garage door off the main street with no markings, then drive down into the bowels of the earth, underground! From there you catch an elevator which puts you into the store near some household items. Parking is validated, but you pay per hour. There's only one toilet for customers and when I got out of the water closet, there was a line with a family waiting to use the crapper. Toilets are like gold in tourist-laden places like the city of Seattle. Cost Plus World Market, you need to come to Hawaii! Kapolei, Oahu is calling your name! read more

World Market is one of my favorites. And sadly NYC doesn't have a good WM presence... so when we wandered from downtown up towards the Space Needle and I saw a Cost Plus World Market across the street I turned to my hubs and said "AH! Can we go in!?" I then proceeded to tell him that there'd be plenty of chairs for him to sit in while I wandered for a few.... and of course there was. There were pretty chairs and other misc. furniture. There were baskets and picture frames. There was drinkware and funny paper napkins. And a huge selection of snacks and drinks. The store felt a little bit sparse.. but maybe they were just restocking. And its a little bit of an odd shape (sortof triangular) but wandering through wasn't difficult. I didn't end up making any purchases (b/c a girl can only fit so much into her suitcase) but I imagine if I lived in Seattle I'd be at this location often. read more

I skipped the late night Black Friday openings and decided to sleep in. I did head downtown to Macy's to try to buy a new French press in the a.m.. Unfortunately, I could only find one and it was ridiculously small. It looked like a cup more than a coffeemaker. It seemed like I was just going to get it at Amazon. After walking around Pike Place Market which was oddly quiet at 10-ish on a Friday, I headed over to Cost Plus to see if there were any deals there. And there I found what I was looking for. A good selection of Bodum French press coffeemakers. I didn't see any sale signs on it though. But then I looked at the price under the box, $20! Cheaper than Amazon and no waiting involved. This location is pretty comparable to the Bellevue location except for the large parking lot. Though it is a best kept secret that Cost Plus provides garage parking validation. Still if you are buying something big like living room furniture, I feel like one of the suburban locations would be less stressful to buy from unless you live in the core of the city. In addition to finding the French press, I actually found Hawaiian coffee brand, Lion Coffee here. On sale even for $5. At that price, I would skip on picking up Lion in the islands. It always seems that the airplane cabin pressure messes up the coffee bags that I bring back from Hawaii. Continuing the Hawaii food finding at Cost Plus, I did end up finding the Waialua pineapple soda I was searching for here. I couldn't find it at the Bellevue location, but fortunate to find it here alongside two other varieties. Lilikoi soda anyone? The only gripe I have with Cost Plus is maybe the register lines could move a little more quicker. Otherwise I like Cost Plus. It seems like you can always find something unexpected here that you want at a reasonable price. read more

This store is incredible! I was walking back to my hotel from Pike Place Market. It grabbed my attention and went in. I don't know exactly how to describe it. It's like being in either a Winners or TJ Maxx store, but bigger on a world scale, without the huge clothing section. I have never seen so many gourmet world foods under one roof, except when I am at the Ex at the international pavilion. The place also has cool greeting cards, furniture, stationery, and more. I bought a couple of birthday cards. I also went fancy and got lobster pate and fancy crackers. They were so good! This store has its own points program. It's a nice walk strolling through these markets. It's like you're walking through different countries' collections, almost, ok not quite but you get the picture. Plus, the music is soothing, if I recall there being background music. I was looking for a wider stainless steel pot I could steam with than my current, smaller older pot. I didn't find one here but ended up getting one at the Southcenter location. The staff encounter I had was ok. The great thing I love about this place is that they sell Tim Tams. Actually, Tim Tams is the name it's called in Australia, but sold here in the U.S. under the Arnott's banner (the name of the company that makes Tim Tams). For years I've bought these biscuits through online stores that specialized in Australian items and cost a small fortune to buy. If you don't know what a Tim Tam is, it's a little larger than a zippo lighter, has two chocolate biscuits separated by a layer of chocolate cream filling and encased in a chocolate shell. They come in many varieties: Original, Chewy Caramel, Double Coat, Dark and others, but I've only seen Original, Double Coat and Chewy Caramel at Cost Plus. Why such devotion to this product? It's because of the Tim Tam Explosion. You bite off the diagonal opposite corners of the Tim Tam and use it as a straw to drink coffee. Once you feel the liquid hit your mouth, quickly pop the biscuit in your mouth. An explosion of chocolate in your mouth! read more

I can't even come in here because it is a guarantee that I will leave with something I was convinced I couldn't live without inside. Cost Plus is huge and has everything you can imagine. If you can't find a gift for someone, if you are looking to decorate your place without spending an arm or a leg, if you can't decide what to have for dinner, if you have time to kill and want to wander indoors for a while... this is the place. From the food and wine/beer to the furniture (YES!) they have something for everyone. Pet supplies, cooking and baking gear, I just can't explain the scope of THEM HAVING EVERYTHING YOU WILL EVER NEED. After this review, I was contacted by CPWM. They were alarmed that their product was like this and they did everything they could to make it right. They refunded me for my chocolate purchase and did research as to why the chocolate I bought was bad. It turns out it was an issue with Ritter's manufacturing and not with the store. This is my first time in the store. They have pretty random things for sale. First I thought they are an outdoor store. I was looking for something for my patio but then didn't find what I want. I did see a 4 piece patio chair and table set for $200 but it was on hold. After looking at the outdoor items, I continued into the store and they had wine for sale and international goodies. The store is interesting. It doesn't have a theme to it. But I am not a designer or architech so that would not matter. Other than that, their prices are quite reasonable. Great store right near Pike Place! It reminds me of a mix of Trader Joe's and Pier One but without a lot of the pretentiousness and with the high prices. They have a wonderful mix of teas and coffees. And some unique foods. A good place to go when you can't make it to the ethnic store and need something for dinner. Decent beer and wine collection to choose from. The prices are high so choose wisely. The best thing about this store is the fun kitchen and home supplies. They carry a variety of wicker baskets, Asian influenced items and unique dishes and glasses. And all at a decent price for the quality. read more

This is not the normal grocery store for me. However, I come here for the 90% Dark Chocolate. This is the only store I can find the Dark Chocolate I like. Once a while they also have fruity Italian soda on sale for $1 a bottle. I enjoyed shopping in the store. However, due to the location, I took a bus. Therefore, I can't really buy a lot of stuff I wanted. For example, they are having "snow balls (white cheese balls)" on sale. I tried a couple and really liked it. But, I can't buy it because I was not able to carry it home (not heavy, but the container is too big) Staff was really nice and polite :-) read more

What a great location! It is very well organized and clean plus the employees were very helpful. I am a huge fan of these stores for unique cookware, dishes, gifts, clothing, jewelry, candles and decor...even booze and snacks! Seriously, chocolate of yum! I even managed to find a package of flameless candles which I decided to use for all my outdoor candle holders. When I am without the perfect gift for a friend I will sometimes wander through here. They also have gorgeous cards and gifts bags which you just won't find elsewhere. Always drop in during the holidays for some unique decor and gifts too. read more

World Market is a great place to go to for small quirky gifts...I come here all the time almost specifically for that! They have everything from food & booze to furniture, and these items come from "all around the world" as well. The candy section is always a winner -- chocolates, gummies, and treats you never heard of before are here in large quantities. Imported foods finds here are hit and miss, but the World Market brand stuff is almost always a safe bet if you are uncertain about grabbing anything to nosh on at home. The beer selection is decent -- mostly imports or stateside brews trying to look like they are imported. Wine selection is really good and honestly the prices are surprisingly great. Except maybe for that bottle of Ed Hardy wine I came across here once... One can find many knick knacks, hippy jewelry, scarves, spice tins, cookery, wrapping paper, candles, and just random weird stuff here all the time. Best find thus far was a birthday themed rubber ducky that was the best silly gift I could give someone. You don't know what you'll find here for sure, but there is always something interesting and/or tasty to leave with. read more

If you are staying in downtown Seattle and looking for quality snacks, this is a great place to visit. My mom and I came in here just for funsies and stayed for over 30 minutes. That's a lot considering we were just going in there to look around for a few minutes. We ended up buying some Voss water, a scarf and popcorn. This place is great and is reasonably priced. This place have everything. The products they have aren't so standard either. If I lived in Seattle, I would definitely redecorate my room with what they have in this store.
