As I wandered around the city while visiting Seattle I decided to find the coolest and unique spots I could find for all the things I love - stationary, artisan-made goods, unique gifts, and artwork that is affordable. I even saw jewelry, name brand reusable bag line merch, and stickers here at Butter Home. Of course there was quite a variety of home goods too including candles, books, etc. I saw some great artwork that was Seattle-themed and a lot of cool large paperclips, stamps, and whatnot to bring back to my office mates as small gifts. You will find something for you and then some here. Service was great as I asked the person working for any other nearby shops. They had great suggestions for other spots to eat and hang out in the neighborhood. I was super happy they were friendly enough to make some recommendations. read more

I browsed through the entire shop. Kitchen and home gear. Greeting cards. Various unique gift items. Really liked this place. It's walking distance from Starbucks Reserve and is located in the back of this cool marketplace with food, a meat shop, and some other random eateries. The aesthetic here is on point. Very modern, cute stuff that will appeal not only to Gen Z/millennials but also some other hip and artistic people in your lives. Ended up buying two candles here, and the nice man working there even packaged them in a rwally nice bag with a eucalyptus leaf on it. Really well done, and a place I was glad to support. read more

This store is such a treat - full of so much cute variety (candles, stationary, jewelry, scents, household goods, card games, etc) all laid out cleanly and spaciously so you don't feel cramped or overwhelmed. It was hard to not buy too much. I bought a few pins, a lip balm, and a necklace. These ended up being great gifts for friends at home and for myself (the necklace was a piece I'd been looking for). Slightly overpriced in some areas, but you won't regret the purchase. The staff were so sweet, too. I love this little shoppy shop! They have such cute little artisan, small business, and eco friendly items. They have a whole section of Baggu things too! It is a little pricey compared to normal shops but it's pretty normal prices for artisan/small business goods. I got a 3 pack of Baggu hand towels and a 5 pack of reusable ziploc bag things and my total was over $50. Again, little pricey, but I also loved my things I got, and I am happy to have them at that price. read more

Cute as a button, this petite shop in Melrose Market carries an enchanting mix of clever old and new goods for the home, including dishtowels that can help you learn cuts of pork, wood doily coasters, napkins, jewelry from local artists (including State of Washington charm necklaces), magnets, sachets, cutting boards, big baskets, greeting cards, terrariums, jars, paper garlands, porcelain fruit baskets, cardboard animal heads, etc. The magnets are made with photographs from a local artist. This is the cutest little store in the Melrose Market on Cap Hill. It seems like everything is handpicked with care by the shop owner. I bought towel linens and was interested in a Seattle art print. I asked the shop owner if the artist made pieces for Colorado and she went out of her way to look up the information for me. I will definitely be back if I want cute pieces for my home or a gift for a friend. read more

Nestled above Calf & Kid in the Melrose Market, this shop is the definition of quaint. When real estate shopping, avoid anything described this way, it means outdated and small. But in this case, I said the definition, and I mean it like dictionary.com says it "having an old-fashioned attractiveness or charm; oddly picturesque, strange, peculiar, or unusual in an interesting, pleasing, or amusing way" The saleswoman was awesome, helpful and cute enough that she was right at home amongst the other covetable items on the shelves, wall, ceiling, floor and some other places I have forgotten. I wanted to just scoop up one of everything but thankfully (to my bank balance) sanity was with me that day and I settled on a lovely recycled glass terrarium for a holiday gift. It was as well received as I hoped, and since it's for the better half, it means I get to enjoy it too. Before you enter Butter Home, let me warn you that you will need nothing and want everything. Glass straws? Decorative antlers? Button earrings? Give me a break! I came this close to spending like thirteen bucks on a set of coasters because they looked like cross-sections of tiny trees. The shop is small, almost cramped, located in what feels like an open attic, up a narrow flight of stairs above the cheese shop in Melrose Market. The space is well stocked with home furnishing and gift items, and I'd have an easier time justifying shopping for gifts than for myself. While I looked around, I reminded myself that a person in her twenties only needs one set of cooking spoons, and that it probably shouldn't be a novelty set. The card selection is excellent, and apparently Michael K. comes here often to scope it out. The cards are particularly well curated. I had fun browsing and smiling at some of the more endearing greetings and puns. I didn't end up buying anything at Butter Home, but I do hope it does good business. It's an adorable spot, and if I lived in Seattle I wouldn't need too much of an excuse to come back and buy something, or maybe one of everything. read more

SUCH a cute little shop! It's amazing how many things they have in their small space. I feel like I spent over an hour looking through all of their stuff. It seemed like just when I thought I saw everything, I'd spot something new. They sell quirky, unique small items (home decor, stationary)...kinda like Urban Outfitters but not obnoxious or problematic. I believe they sell items from local artists too. It's a perfect place to find a birthday/holiday/just because gift or to treat yourself to something fun. This little store inside of the Melrose Market is full of charm and beautiful handmade goodies from local artists. I found two pairs of earrings that I absolutely love and can't wait to wear. The woman working there (I think she was the owner) was so helpful and inviting. She even let me try on the earrings and cleaned the ones that I decided not to get. If I hadn't already done all of my Christmas shopping I would have definitely purchased some more items here. The prices are reasonable considering the items are mostly handmade and very unique. You have to remember you are paying for quality and supporting local people, not just buying something cheap off the internet that will most likely fall apart. One of the best home decor shops I've been to in Seattle! Yep, it's super small. And no, it's not really its own shop...more of like an attic or something. But, if you're looking for great local gifts, this is your place! I went for one main reason. They have a lovely selection of unique ceramics that are shaped like ordinary disposable items (such as milk cartons, anchovy tins, and berry baskets). They're priced pretty reasonably too. They also have a good selection of printed goods, candles and dish towels. A warning though: I purchased a Simple Scents mason jar candle (I know, I know, I'm over mason jars too, but I loved the smell). When I took it home and lit it, it had little to no scent! Very disappointing. One more tip: make sure to head over on an empty stomach. It's pretty much impossible to resist the sights and smells of the other delicious vendors at the Melrose Market. read more

I Shopped the Hill this weekend in an attempt to buy local presents for Christmas, instead of sinking my cash into a chain store that returns only an itty bitty percentage of the wealth to our economy. Anyway, not trying to get all political here, so on with the review. Butter Home was PACKED this Sunday afternoon, but I still squeezed my way around the shop. It's a very small space, located above Calf and Kid in the Melrose Market. I'd never been there, but today they were offering 10% off as a Shop the Hill promotion, so I thought I'd take a peek. Very charming little shop. Sort of like a very miniature Anthropologie home section - all rustic and cute and very pricey. Many local goods, though - handmade jewelry and the like. I bought two felted dryer balls, a felt mistletoe (can be used every year and much prettier than those plants with the white plastic berries!), and a layered, flexible silver bracelet. Tucked into an upstairs loft at the Melrose Market, it can be easy to miss it if you're not looking. Head up the stairs, and you'll find a trove of fun treasures for your home. Handcrafted accents, stationery, jewelry, and tableware are available, all well curated by the friendly staff. I could have spent hours just poking around and checking out all the treasures, but unfortunately I was in a hurry. I hate to give small local businesses lower ratings, but this store was a disappointment for me. Other reviews raving about it say it was small, but it's hard to really convey exactly how small. The place is also so small that it's difficult for it not to appear cluttered and you feel like a bulldog in a china shop just carrying a moderately sized purse. It would be packed if you tried to fit more than about 4 people in it. It's got local goods, sure, but it's a very homogenous selection of the "rustic" style. Maybe I wasn't excited because I grew up in "rustic" New England where these types of things are commonplace in the touristy shops (screen printed natural brown cotton tea towels with maps of Washington state on them for example), but I was hoping for a brighter more varied selection. It's a niche kind of place, and I'm sorry to say I'm just not in that niche. read more

The small upstairs space in the Melrose Market building is packed with items ranging from construct it yourself carboard "taxidermy" to delicate jewelry made by local artisans. I like to stop in and just browse, but some items that I have gotten there include quirky cute Christmas cards, a pyrex straw, and handmade soy candles. i am so sick of ikea crap. Butter offers beautiful, more unique decor & a ton of fun gifts & impulse buys too. Really cool that a lot of it is handmade and reused/recycled. The owner has a great eye! She's happy to share info about the items/artists too, which i liked. My wish list keeps growing----hand-carved wooden flower ring, iron-branch baskets, lobstering rope rugs, the felt donut with pink icing & sprinkles (& other notable felt-food-funstuff such as the bananas, carrots), a green scarf, and the sturdy shelves with the painted barn-door front. :) By the way, about 8 people in my family received Butter-gifts for Christmas and everyone was really happy, especcially my bf's cousin.
