Entrance is behind the Christmas tree you see on the left. Inn at the Market entrance is at the awning on the right.

I coulda spent hours inside. A little eclectic, a little quirky and a lot fascinating! This Watson Kennedy location is tucked in by the Inn at the Market, just steps from Pike Place Market. What a great find and what great staff - so eager to help. Can't wait to come back!

Dainty, fancy, and pretty, this is the kind of gift store that I would like to open. You'll find vintage and new trinkets, some imported, including fancy ribbons, old alphabet letters, vintage keys, vintage game pieces, etc. Some of the unique items are picked up during the owner's travels. There are various tables and shelves with items (soaps, notebooks, gift tags, candles, greeting cards, perfume, lotions, etched drinking glasses, candy, coasters, pajamas, linens, patterned file folders, books) organized by color. One table has items from the UK and France. Earrings are feminine and petite. This would be the perfect place to pick up a hostess gift or something thoughtful, like Diptyque candle or Mariage Freres tea. As I wandered around admiring the inventory, I kept encountering items I'd purchased in the past. I hadn't seen E. Coudray lotion in many years...forgot it existed till I saw it here. You can't get it in the Bay Area.

My favorite sensory overloading treasure trove! This store is such a treat. I'm always inspired by the displays and the variety of items. I love that things are separated by color. I could spend days here just browsing. The mix of new and old is the perfect balance. Letterpress & handmade cards, vintage keys and games, scents, jewelry, glass... the list goes on. This is the store I own in my alternate life. It is by far the best spot at Pike Place!

It's similar to a vinyl record shop where everything is in bins and you shift through them to see what's available. I love movies and found a number of movie posters in different sizes and from different eras. Classics that I grew up with and classics my grandparents grew up with. Really cool! My other half found a number of old maps. Maps where parts of the world hadn't been discovered at the time. They also have old pictures of famous landmarks. I ended up buying an old picture of Pikes Place. Very interesting place. If you're looking for a unique way to decorate or something for a collection, I'd give this place a look.

From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the wonderful staff. The store is a dream, everything is thoughtfully color-coordinated, making it a feast for the eyes. There's truly something for everyone, and it's the perfect one-stop shop for creating a thoughtful gift basket. I could have easily spent hours browsing the unique selection, but my husband was eager to get to our next destination. We were visiting from out of town the first time we stopped in, but now it is a go to spot, even if it's just to check out what they have put out recently! If you're in Seattle, this store is an absolute must-visit!

I looked at the sign and it said they were open but I didn't see anyone inside. There's a buzzer out the door and I went and pressed it. No one came so I pressed it one more time. At this point, I saw movement and was buzzed in. Once in, I felt the sales associate staring at me. It was only me and her and I felt quite awkward. I couldn't figure out if I had something on my face or my shirt was on backwards. Finally, the sales associate sternly says "you know, we can hear the buzzer from back there. You do not need to buzz us so many times." I was appalled. I had never been stared at or talked to so rudely. I kindly said "Oh! Sorry. I didn't see anyone inside so I wasn't sure if you could hear me." She didn't respond to that and thankfully another customer came in. I promptly left and will be taking my money elsewhere. It's a bummer as I used to be a loyal shopper and love to support small businesses. As a veteran of customer service, I understand how demanding said job can be, but it doesn't merit being rude to customers.

This is one of the few businesses that survived the Executive Order 9066 written in 1942 with thanks to the non-Japanese friends of the family who owned businesses in the same building. Today, Kobo represents a new generation of local artists, selling gift items, crafts, tees, books, art, jewelry, and much more at varying level of prices. I highly recommend Kobo when shopping for unique gifts. When I recently visited, they had a glass artwork on display, art gallery style. It was also the yearly Nihonmachi celebration, and they had a table outside with an artist painting one of three designs on classic Japanese windchimes. I was thrilled to buy one of these adorable windchimes commonly featured in anime including Studio Ghibli movies. My mother picked up a really fun t-shirt from KOBO, and I found various gifts - including the Mari Ichimasu (a Seattle-based Japanese artist who works in stop-motion animation, painting, and drawing) book "Fur Coats & Backpacks", which includes the art of her collection of traveling cats & an accompanying poem for each cat. The perfect gift for my feline-loving friends. The staff were happy to let you browse through the store, and you can tell that they work to include items from the local art and design community while also carrying items with wider appeal. The prices may be a bit high? But I was less concerned with the cost of the items than I was on finding quality gifts - and KOBO has those in spades. I'd certainly recommend a visit.
