I came here for a garden gargoyle and left happy. The small concrete gargoyle was $170. Their statues can be indoors or outdoors. I'd definitely go there again because it's the one place that doesn't make everything from a 3D printer. -A con is that the store is so small and crowded that you have to mostly walk around sideways so you don't knock anything over. It's so small that you end up sweating from the crowd of body heat. -You're not allowed to touch anything, which makes it difficult to completely look at a lot of their items. read more

Such a cool little gem in U-district, it's tiny but full of the oddest and coolest decor and tools for your craft. They have everything to fulfill your witchy dreams and items for your altars like statues of your patron deities, as well as incense blends for your specific deities. The incense smells absolutely phenomenal, I bought some and everything smells lovely now. The employees and owner is very helpful and kind. I got loads of help and patience when it came to purchasing a tarot deck. The person helping me would pull the cards out and let me actually go through the artwork, I wanted a deck with gilded edges and they brought me a deck from a local artist that made a animal/nature inspired deck with gilded edges and it was perfect. I picked that and some incense to cleanse it as well as some candles for a cord cutting ritual. Thank you so much for your help, and I love my replacement deck for the one that got destroyed. Undeniably one of the cooler stores I experienced during my recent trip to Seattle, Gargoyles Statuary is yet another awesome joint I experienced in the University District's "The Avenue," a historic neighborhood with a variety of restaurants, stores, etc. I can't tell you how much I wanted to bring something home, but I was afraid that flying I'd end up freaking people out AND going over my weight limit. But man, this place is so awesome. Started in 1992, Gargoyles Statuary offers an amazing selection of gargoyles and pagan, Celtic, metaphysical, and esoteric art and gifts. Gargoyles Statuary features classic gargoyles, Egyptian statues, gods and goddesses, hand-made creatures, monsters and winged guardians in plaster, concrete and resin for the home and garden. While it all sounds rather horrifying, Gargoyles Statuary has designs that run the gamut between contemplative, fierce, humorous, satirical and even whimsical. Gargoyles Statuary even has an artist, Victor Moray, who custom makes fangs. Gargoyles Statuary carries local art, angels, books/journals, tarot, candleholders, candles/incense/oils, door knockers, ritual wares, and much, much more. Quite honestly, there's a lot I could have gotten here and been incredibly happy. No, it's probably not for everyone but you'd probably be surprised as there's so much cool stuff here. Do you have to be Pagan to appreciate Gargoyles Statuary? Not at all (though this does strike me as retail paradise for Pagans). Seattle is still opening up in terms of the pandemic. Gargoyles Statuary is following required regulations and they are on their website. They offer curbside pick-up, limited numbers of people inside, a limited time inside (20-30 minutes), and they will make private appointments with folks. If you're anywhere near Seattle's University District, Gargoyles Statuary is one of the more unusual area shops but it's definitely worth a visit with great items, great people, and a wonderful atmosphere. read more

The store has been a gem of the university district since the 1990s. And that's about as long as I have been going there! I took a break and just visited again after 15 years. I was still overwhelmed at the amazing choices that they had. I always walk away with something from the store. They have so many beautiful products and really unique treasures I've never seen before. The store smells amazing and the owner is warm and gracious. They are social distancing right now and only allow five people in the store, which is really nice. I did have to wait 15 minutes when there was no line but it was worth it when I got inside. They also take appointments if you don't like to wait. I felt like I had a personal shopper when i got inside. I can't wait to come back and drop more cash, hopefully without waiting 15 years this time. read more

I grew up in Seattle and this was a real cool spot to stop at when my friends and I were in high school. Fast forward 10+ years and this store has once again become a favorite of not only mine but my six year old son who refers to it as "the devil store" (his #1 fav store next to Archie McPhee) and now has his own collection of "furrybones" he chooses from here. It's a weekly stop now. So so many cool and authentic finds, wide range of prices too so if you're looking for a smile something or gift or forever decor for your home it will be found here. What an awesome shop! I have literally never been in a shop with a better vibe or aesthetic than this one. Everywhere you go, there is more to look and explore, with super cool trinkets and art as far as the eye can see. There are so many beautiful pieces of art, candles, incense, jewelry, and cool gothic style shirts. In their back section currently they have an art gallery and lots of prints, candles, and art work from local artists, along with artworks at the front of the store. I love that they support local artists! They have original art pieces along with prints of all sizes and handmade cards. Everyone working there was so nice and helpful. Have you ever needed a gargoyle but you had trouble finding one? Well look no further! There's an entire store dedicated to these creatures! Cute, scary, big or small - they have them all! Literally. I walked in here one day while in the area and found myself totally in love! The Notre Dame has nothing on this place! You can get fountains, skeletons, jewelry, incense, and gargoyles galore! The owners were very pleasant and the store was very neatly laid out. Maybe not a good spot to bring kids in case they'll knock things over. Oh - and don't come if you need to pee because they have lots of fountains and water displays to remind you it's 'time to go.' My favorite piece was an adorable little wide eyed bunny rabbit with vampire fangs. As soon as I live somewhere that has a balcony, I know what to decorate it with! read more

This spot is.... pretty funky. I'm not sure what to think of it and I rarely go there because I don't ever really want much of what they have to offer. On the day of my last visit, however, I was headed to a friend's birthday party and I knew he would enjoy something from this store. The customer service was a little... funny. The regular employee was very on top of things and great with suggestions. I actually ended up buying the item he showed me when we started talking. The new trainee was way over-eager and I felt like he tried to sell me whatever his eyes fell on first. Ah, well... new employee is a new employee. And he seemed to dig the stuff he was selling, so I think he was in the right place. Over all... they have some neat things. Some jewelry, some statues, most are decorative items, cool candles, etc. Lots of dark-ish and new agey type stuff. Some shiny point things. Not a place I'd generally find myself, but it's cool. I really and truly love this store! As the name of the store implies they have plenty of Gargoyle Statuary everywhere! They have so many other goth and dark merchandise as well! There were a number of things that really caught my eye here and just shopping here once I know for sure that I will become a regular here! Here is what caught my eye: 1) They have a small but simply amazing selection of Steampunk hats! I mean you could tell that these hats were made locally or by someone that handmade them! They were incredibly unique and had an impressive tailored touch which makes them one of a kind! 2) There were adorable little Christmas ornaments in red and gold that were hand painted by a local artist which had black cats, bats and other things. Really a perfect ornament if you do Halloween decorative trees! 3) The assortment of t-shirts are fantastic! They have lots of shirts with monsters, zombies and Day of the Dead skeletons! 4) The greeting cards here are wonderful! Really unique and beautiful! I am sure you can get a card for a friend that no one else will get for them unless they shop here! I bought a couple of different things. I bought some vinyl record art. I believe it was painted in oil and I bought two vinyl records with portraits of Edgar Allen Poe and the Bride of the Monster. I also bought a zombie t-shirt. A great deal of Gargoyles merchandise is made by local artists which is great! All three items I bought were created locally! They have a small display area in the back where they have canvas and wall art for sale. Sometimes they have a social event where you can meet the local artists that made them! Just such an event was coming soon while I was there and the main theme was werewolves! At the front of the store in a corner there is also someone that gives customers tarot card or palm readings. Very cool! The place has tons of merchandise that I may have overlooked that would enthrall me which is why I MUST keep going back! Lol! That and I am sure that new merchandise is always on its way. Prices on the merchandise seem very reasonable to me! The owners are extremely pleasant to talk with and they are very knowledgeable! Definitely an awesome 'creepy' cool place all the way from their fairy ornaments hung high to the dead leaves on the floor! If you're looking for the strange, unusual or (of course) a gargoyle, you have found the perfect place. My BFF told me he loved this place and took me in. They have every size and type of gargoyle you could want from super tiny to very large. They also have a lot of art, shirts, jewelry, Egyptian things, and pagan items. Don't bring kids in here because there are a lot of things that are fragile or could easily be knocked over. If I wasn't in an apartment and had a yard or balcony, I'd get a dude to guard the place. It's been the same people here since I was a kid, It feels like home. This place always smells nice and has such a beautiful and vast array of items, I could get lost looking around. Last time I was there I found the most amazing crow skull replica necklace and it looks so real! Not to mention I find a new brand of incense that is the most impressive I have ever smelled they are strong and last the entire day(Auric Blends). Combined, the two of us have quite the appetite for "the strange and unusual," and this shop keeps us sated. Gargoyle Statuary has a great collection of cute, macabre, and perfectly gothy gargoyles. Boy is this a FUN place to browse. It has gargoyles all over the place and great artwork on paper as well. I bought one of Amy Brown's artist proof here years ago. She is an artist based in Tacoma who draws fantasy fairies and dragons. She's got a whole product line in many stores now. I love spending some time here. You just never know what you're going to find and they have rare items. It's kept dark and mysterious inside. I love it! This place is fun and has some really kooky stuff. It has the obligatory overpowering smell of incense that any "goth" knick-knack shop has, I guess. Most of their stuff is pretty chintzy and dumb, the kind of stuff that I would have liked back when I was 13 and running around in white-out face paint and too much eyeliner. Not really a lot of stuff for grown-ups, but every once in a while I find something truly morbid, twisted, or just downright cool. I like the fact that they have stuff by local artists - there were a collection of light-switch plates that I adored, all different, all done by a local artist. I had one for a long time and loved it to death... gonna need some more of those. The pricing is a little outrageous. Unless you're getting something from a local artist, you'd be better off checking to make sure it isn't half as much online. read more

My Aunt and I went here one day in the summer and it was very fun. I love spooky things so I felt right at home. My aunt was a little creeped out because it is very dark and there are many spooky critters. Some of them are cute, some of them are enchantingly spooky some are ugly! They have a tarot card reader if you are interested in scrying at all. I haven't had mine read yet so I suppose you will see for yourself. The reader has their own booth in the store. Also at the counter they have jewelry, there is a rack where they have religious jewelry of all kinds, it's neat to see crosses and pentagrams together along with others. This place is a place I have been searching for my whole life. It's peaceful and magikal. There's so much to explore, I only had 20 mi utes before they closed and it wasn't enough. I could of spent 20 hours. I am from Portland and I wish GS was there so I can regularly shop. For what it is... it is great. I mean, I've never been to a Gargoyle Statuary before. There are literally hundreds of gargoyles here that will hang on your wall, sit on your front porch, hold your candles... but my favorite statue was this large cement slug (sounds gross.. but it would be so great in a garden). The original art work is what I liked, they are mostly fantasy but there are some religious paintings that are dark and beautifully done. This has to be my favorite store I shop at regularly. I've been coming here for 20+ years but I've lived quite close and shopped frequently for the previous four years. When Covid hit I was really concerned about it's survival since so many retailers had been closing doors. I am so grateful through all the temp closures and phases that Gargoyles Sanctuary has been able to keep their doors open! The owner Gail is such a delight to see and catch up with when I come by. Her lovely associate Jason is also super friendly and very helpful, especially when I'm looking for something in particular. I recommend the store to almost everybody in my life. For many different reasons and needs. I have also helped friends that live out of town to shop here and Gail has shipped those items to my friends directly! This shop is always so accommodating just like last night when Gail stayed open 35 minutes past her 6pm close time (on a Friday night no less!), and I didn't even realize until I looked at my watch. Gail and Jason still made time for me and didn't even alert me to the fact they were actually closed until I noticed the time! I was able to get my incense cones, incense sticks and candles that I needed. I have purchased many kinds of incense I've not found anywhere else, lovely detailed incense holders, wonderful statues, beautiful local handmade candles, tarot decks, tarot books, many pieces of artwork, crystals spheres, gorgeous rings, stained glass hanging art, birthday/holiday cards, gifts, many gargoyle statues and much, much more. They carry and work with many vendors and artists I can't find anywhere else. I can't say enough positive things about this place, you just gotta check it out.
