We have bought living room and dining furniture from Room & Board for several years and this week I was reminded why we have returned so many times. We had purchased a dining set in 2019 with 6 chairs. Recently, one of the welds had broken in a chair base and we contacted Room & Board. They promptly sent a team of two of the nicest guys you could wish for and they brought a new base and switched it with the broken one in less than 15 minutes. No charge. This is the way to keep customers. The quality of all the furniture we have purchased is excellent and the designs are exactly what we are looking for. Walked through the store with my wife, we are both asian. Girls at the front desk were nice and said hi as we walked in. Chubby darker/ tan skin guy with glasses / longer curly hair walked around in the back offering "white" customers help and being nice to them. When he saw us, didn't offer to help and said "hi" really quick and zoomed past us. We later asked the girl at the front to see some fabric samples and guess who she called over. Yep, it was chubby dark hair glasses man. He didn't acknowledge or ask what we were looking for, instead walked us over to a case of fabrics and told me to look through it all. I tested him later to see if he was even capable of doing his job, asked him to help me with finding a color + fabric material, he instead just told me to look through all the samples myself again. read more

I don't get it. I have been into this store multiple times and no customer service person has EVER asked if I need help. And there is always a person posted at the front door who doesn't deign to look up from their computer to acknowledge me. The store is weirdly obsessive about keeping all the pillows in order. If I am to buy a sofa ofcourse we need to sit and test it out before dumping $2000+ on it. An employee was super passive-aggressively putting pillows in order closely following us after we sat on any piece. I dont want to pull the race card but it really seemed racist. There were many other people trying out furniture as well but this employee was only following us. And when we were the only people of color in the store its hard to believe it was just a coincidence that this employee was just following us. And giving us the stink eye every time we sat on any couch. If you are opening a furniture store then you have to expect that people are going to test it out! No other store we have ever visited has treated us like this. Honestly very dissappointed and will never be visiting again. We will take our buisness elsewhere. Room & Board is the furniture brand that fits our current needs best with up-to-date design and consistently good quality. We've purchased a sofa and two leather chairs from Room & Board in recent years. Its furniture is a step up in quality than comparable items from Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn and more modern in style than furniture from Bassett or Ethan Allen. Though not inexpensive, their furniture is well-priced and typically represents good value for furniture that you expect to use for years. The design consultants at Room & Board are knowledgeable and helpful as well. In my last visit to the Seattle store, I worked with Lindsey, one of the store's design consultants, to better understand the construction and finish options for a dining room table and media console that are built to order. Her knowledge about the products was excellent and she followed up promptly with an answer about construction of the table. It was definitely worth the trip to the store to get information about the product that wasn't available from the Room & Board Web site. read more

I bought some very nice office furniture here. Plus five stars for being made in the USA. Minus two stars for the snarky dispatch guy who insisted that I could either have the noon-2:00 delivery time, or wait a week for a different delivery time. All I wanted was any time except noon-2:00, but he explained to me how busy they are. I guess being really busy makes it so you don't also need to be flexible. If you want furniture made in the USA, EU, or some other economy where the manufacturing isn't done with slave labor, there aren't a lot of options. I only wish these guys would try to understand that delivery also reflects on the customer experience. read more

Excellent customer service and return policy. We bought a fairly pricy sectional, and a few of the buttons kept poking up (I'm calling them "BUTTons") . Anyhow, I called R&B and let them know, and they gave me multiple options. They will send someone to repair the buttons/secure them better, they will have the couch picked up and repaired, or they will pick it up and I can return it for a full refund. Now, if this was Joybird, it would've cost me 10% of the item plus shipping it back at my own expense. We are thankful we went with a more quality albeit pricier item, because we know any issues will be dealt with quickly and fairly, with excellent service. Also, we sat in "our" couch in the store and even after so many butts, it doesn't sag or look crummy. We've bought a bookcase, coffee table, and living room rug from Room and Board. What really stands out is their excellent white glove delivery. We've purchased furniture from West Elm, Crate and Barrel, and Room and Board. Of the three stores, the delivery people are by far the best at Room and Board. They're polite, we never have to remind the guys to take their shoes off when they deliver items. They're efficient and respectful of my home. The items are delivered in perfect condition. They show up when they say they will, are careful, and do not cause damage to my home. We also received good service from the Design Department when selecting a living room rug. Room and Board is more expensive than Crate and Barrel and West Elm but their products are higher quality and you receive better service. You get what you pay for. read more

This only a review of my poor customer experience not of the quality of style of the furniture. My husband and I were being helped by an employee when discussing couch options when another employee approached our puppy and tried to pet him. My puppy barked and my husband immediately removed him from the store. As I stayed and continued to look at couch options with the employee on her iPad, I could see notifications of all of the employees messages back and forth discussing and making jest of our puppy situation, especially one employee named Mario. It made me instantly uncomfortable and unwelcome to be there. It lacked professionalism and I could tell the woman who was helping me was stressed out as well. Word of advice, you can remove "banner" notifications from your Teams app on your iPad so you can continue to have private employee conversations while your staff helps your customers. read more

For your associate's thinly veiled anti-Asian racism + xenophobia: I recently called the U Village store to schedule a virtual design appt, when the associate informed me that R&B uses MSFT Teams not Zoom "because it's not from our country" (spoken in a highly condescending tone). Now, it doesn't matter to me what SaaS R&B uses, but this comment was offensive (literally, on the offense, since I never asked for the reason behind the software choice). I then let him know that Zoom is based in San Jose, CA and is listed on the NYSE -- in short, it is 100% an American company. He then replied in a curt manner, "Oh. I thought it was Chinese, but ANYWAY we use Microsoft" -- presumably because its founder & CEO who built a massive company from scratch, Eric Yuan, is Chinese American. This struck me as moderately xenophobic and highly inappropriate, not to mention factually incorrect. I will note that ***R&B sources many products (plus raw materials) from China***, so clearly the brand is not 'above' using Chinese products as a principle. Additionally, I've seen many, many Chinese-American and Chinese-Chinese customers in the U Village and San Francisco stores, so I think R&B should be very careful how its associates are representing the brand to this increasingly diverse customer base. This incident was almost enough to make me reconsider our entire multi-room purchase, which is now hanging on the single thread of the quality of R&B's supply chain (including from its suppliers in CHINA). No one expects R&B to be the thought police for all of their associates, but this comment was absolutely unnecessary and negligent. Totally unnecessary to say "because it's not from our country" when I **never asked why** you don't use Zoom. Several of the Seattle staff have been similarly dismissive (while others have been incredible). Maybe time to think more carefully about hiring criteria and evaluations. We've purchased 3 items at Room & Board, one of which was for our daughter because we liked our Deco Sleep Sofa so much. Service was very good particularly for the Deco that required some set up. They do charge for delivery but really worth it because it's very personalized and the delivery personnel really know the products. Room & Board is one of the few retailers that when you complete a survey, you know they read it. For the most recent coffee table purchase I had a question and a comment. I received a response just a day later. While not expected they went above and beyond in response and action. I would whole heartedly and confidently purchase at Room & Board again. read more

This review is for the amazing delivery service. Room and Board was professional and prompt and reliable. I live for a very narrow private drive which has been an issue for furniture delivery in the past. Even the so called "white glove" delivery service from companies like ABC Home or Design Within Reach which you pay extra for left much to be desired but Room and Board exceeded my expectations and even without additional costs. I didn't have to worry about a thing. The delivery crew unpacked all the pieces and brought them into the house. All the bulky boxes and packing was taken care of as a matter of fact. Taking COVID into consideration they are extremely lacking in a bailout to deliver in a timely manner. Have been awaiting a mirror for three months. Three months... I have the option to cancel at 30% hit for their inability to meet their end of the deal. I'd understand this if I ordered something not on their website as a drop down selection however it's literally welded .5 square tube and what I was able to find as an off the shelf mirror glass size. Buying a welding machine, taking a class to ensure my welds were clean, trying to make a few times then calling it good would have taken less time... The service here is really bad. While service is not something you really need to shop for furniture it sure would have been nice to see some better attempts at helping my wife and I out. We came in specifically to see a few chairs and wanted to talk to a sales person about seeing more colors, textures, etc. I found an employee sitting at a computer, I stood there waiting for her to acknowledge my existence, instead she sat there checking her email. When I got her attention and asked if she could help, she said no. What?! She told me I needed to talk to someone else. I found another employee and they seemed about 10% more willing to help. She went through the motions of selecting the items we wanted on the computer. No, hello, how can I help you? No, let me see if I can find something similar for you to reference the color. No, this is how you can expect your furniture to be delivered. The furniture at Room and Board is great. The employees have no customer service skills. I went back to the Room & Board to try and find a neck pillow to remedy the situation. I totally forgot to take a picture of the chair but Korey was able to look up my portfolio with them and find my previous orders. I was greeted halfheartedly when I entered the store, and nobody made any further moves to help me after that. The store was almost completely empty and eerily quiet, so it wasn't that they were busy. I guess I didn't look like someone with thousands to spare for furniture. That might be true, but I know someone who DOES have the budget for gorgeous sofas and armchairs, and I'm basically his decorator.. so it might behoove Room & Board's employees to stop chatting with each other and at least pretend to have some interest in their guests. Grouching aside, I was wowed by the merchandise at Room & Board. They have many beautifully curated "rooms" displaying their furniture, and I wanted a lot of it. Their delivery guys did the installation and screwed it in slightly crooked/skewed after banging the piece into a light fixture. I'll never understand why their moving people don't wrap the furniture in an sort of packaging or blankets when moving furniture through people's houses. We loved the look, feel, and variety- and they were super helpful by answering all kinds of questions and making it tailored to our needs. When we realized we bought one couch that was too short, they immediately took it back and replaced it with a longer one. Five years later, the furniture still looks brand new. Even with a cat that likes to put his claws into them. Their excellent client service continues - they replaced a deflating sofa mattress at no fee, delivering it within a week. We've shopped at Room & Board for years, having bought our first piece--a dining table--over ten years ago in Denver, but I am only now posting a review. The furniture is very high quality and wears well over time. Our dining table has taken a real beating with two kids under the age of four and a large dog that has jumped up on the table to eat the scraps after the kids were in the bath. R&B has their recommended furniture repair guy, and we have called him a few times. He came and filled in the scratches to make it look almost like new and recommended re-staining after the kids get older. In addition to the dining table, we have three sofas and other miscellaneous pieces such as a recliner, coffee table, side table, etc. We are happy with each piece of furniture. When a piece wasn't perfect, R&B made it right. For instance, the sofa bed's air mattress leaked recently after three years of very light use, and R&B replaced it immediately. Naively, I've been under the impression that every higher end furniture store would have the same great customer service, but it wasn't until recently when I was trying to purchase bedroom furniture from Restoration Hardware that I realized how great my experience has been for years at R&B. We have worked with a few different design associates over the years, mainly Elaine in the University Village store. Elaine is amazing, knowledgeable and experienced and will share her opinions when I'm having second thoughts about a design choice. I have, upon occasion, had to email Elaine regarding a problem, and she has been quick to respond and will navigate the right channels necessary so I don't have to call customer service and listen to the options on the phone. However, perhaps what I should compliment most of all is the R&B business model because the designers neither work on commission nor feel the need to take ownership for a sale despite extensive time spent with a client. For instance, I spent a long time discussing sofa and fabric options with Elaine, but ultimately I needed to go back home to confirm the measurements. She encouraged me to order online if I felt comfortable doing so, thus saving me a trip back to the store and babysitting fees. When I returned to look for throw pillows, she wasn't available, so other design associates were quick and enthusiastic to step in and discuss options with me. It seems that all the designers work together to meet the needs of anyone's client, which is the exact opposite of RH. In contrast, I've been pressured to order something over the phone rather than online in order to "keep the local RH store open," and I've been asked to use the quote number sent via email through the first design associate I initially spoke with even though her sense of style is very different from mine and I was hoping to speak with someone else next time. Since My first visit to the RH store, I've gotten both a phone call AND an email following up--pressuring me to make the purchases. Overall it's been an annoying experience at RH. The experience has made me realize that I really need to give a shout out to R&B and all the wonderful designers there, especially Elaine. If R&B furniture is your style, you just can't go wrong buying from them. They stand behind the quality of their pieces and offer superior customer service. I've always found the shopping experience pleasant and pressure-free. read more

The warehouse came back to install a new door that was believed to be out of square, only to find out that the entire cabinet was built out of square. I returned. The second order number 2819910 for 2 wallace rugs were delayed 3 times. I was originally told that they will be at the warehouse for pick up the weekend I bought them. 6 weeks and three delays later and no rugs. The only thing that was given to me was a superficial apology. I question why I spend this kind of money for this quality of build/service. We are SO glad we came into the store. We had the kindest salesperson help us (I think her name was Shelly). We loved how patient, knowledgeable, and zero pressure she was. We purchased a couch and desk of our dreams, and definitely will be back for more. Well I love their furniture but some help is needed in their Seattle store. I've bought a sofa , lamp table, 2 chairs and am expecting a coffee table. The sofa that arrived was a 2 cushion not the 3 cushion we had ordered. They did correct this issue. The coffee table was in their warehouse and now it's not. I assume it was sold to someone else. I understand the issues Covid 19 but this is poor service. I had just ask them to mail it to me using UPS or another transport service. The lamp table had been mailed to me. read more
