Love this store and visit every time I'm in from out of town. Lots of great plants, pots, and gifts!

An absolute jewel of a nursery amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy mall. It has its own small shop with outdoor plants strategically placed to lure you in to the store. The outdoor is very artistically designed with art pieces and decor. Now you step in, you will be greeted by indoor houseplants for the minimalist to maximalist plant lovers, garden decor and essentials, plant and garden care products, planters and other artsy tchotchkes. Everything is so beautifully placed; it's hard to leave empty handed. If you are a plant lover, enthusiast, hoarder or anything in between, this place is heaven. I bought a begonia maculata (polka dot begonia) at their 50% off tropical plant section. It was $19 and a good sized plant. The store people are super-knowledgeable and friendly. They answered all my questions about tropical indoor plants. Next time I come to the mall, I will probably come here first. :) read more

This is a plant parent's dream. Give me all the plants and home accessories here! Ravenna Gardens is always a stop for me whenever I'm at U-Village, as the store features many different plants, along with gardening accessories and home décor. The staff is very knowledgeable about the different plants here, and are happy to provide assistance, tips and advice on planting greenery around your space. There were also many different kinds of plants, some for the outdoors and a variety of indoor plants. I love tropical plants, which they had a ton of here. In addition to plants, there were many planting tools and accessories, from pots, books, soil, etc. I also enjoyed browsing through the home accessories here, with the layout of the plants throughout the store. I have purchased houseplants from Ravenna Gardens twice and both times, they led to my whole houseplant collection (and home) being infested with fungus gnats. A few plants with a couple of gnats flying around usually isn't too much of a hassle for me to handle (albeit extremely annoying), but I recently bought a bag of potting soil from Ravenna Gardens that was absolutely filled with fungus gnats - it was extremely disgusting to open the bag and have dozens of fungal gnats swarm out. I tried calling the store about this issue and while they did try to offer me a new bag of potting soil (which I refused, given the borderline traumatizing experience from the last bag), overall I felt that the representative I spoke to was rather dismissive of my genuine attempt to give them some feedback about the pest management of their store, saying things like "Seattle just gets a lot of fungus gnats in the cooler months", "fungus gnats don't actually cause damage to plants", "getting fungus gnats is just part of having houseplants", and "you're the only person who has complained about this". It's a little baffling to me that this was their response, as this has been a recurring issue I have experienced while purchasing from and even just browsing around their store. If you still plan to shop at Ravenna Gardens, I definitely suggest diligently checking for pests before purchasing a plant and quarantining it before incorporating it in your houseplant collection. And DEFINITELY steer clear of the potting soil - you can get a gnat-free and more affordable soil mix elsewhere. read more

I've been to nurseries, hardware stores, and boutique shops from Kent to Shoreline looking for plants, and Ravenna Gardens has the best selection, hands down. I was there on a Saturday, and I got a great little beetle peperomia. I also saw a ficus altissima that I liked, but I didn't buy it. When I went back on Wednesday, all of the ficus altissima I had seen were gone. They did have six new ones, but they weren't quite the same. All of the peperomia that had been there on Saturday were gone already, too. I brought a couple pots with me, and the peperomia. They repotted it and a ficus that I bought, with gravel in the bottom, dirt, and super pretty pebbles on top, all for only $5 total. If you're looking for something cool, definitely check out Ravenna Gardens. But if you see something you like, don't wait on it. It might go fast! read more

I've since stopped back at Ravenna Gardens and my original criticisms are still the same--however, I love their selection of pots and indoor plants. Even if it's not the largest selection of indoor, it's priced SOOO right. And what they have is like a mix of common and not-so-common varieties. And their planters pot selection is more diverse and fun that I anticipated/than what I've found most anywhere else. This is a must stop if you're at U Village and you love plants. And if you're into outdoor plants, there seems to be a very large selection for you. Service-wise, it's still not amazing. But better than my initial visit. read more

Despite the approximately seventy thousand stone buddhas in this shop - which feel slightly overwhelming to someone who had to explain to five friends that taking a wee bit of silent time to myself (for no reason other than that I wanted to) was NOT vipassana - it's very hard not to love this store. First of all, it's gorgeous. I want to be best friends with its designer, although he/she probably already has too many best friends to add me into the mix. Secondly, the store is appealing to every sense. Long, delicate, hanging green vines border brightly colored pots, and several sweet scents waft pleasantly through this shop. The array of tactile sensations is infinitely varied, and, since recent research has revealed that plants actually do their own version of what we refer to as talking, I can imagine the fresh foliage softly whispering sweet nothings to each other amidst this luxuriously verdant environment. While I am inside this shop, I can never truly tell if I feel like I am outdoors or indoors - a perfectly satisfying confusion to have, especially on a rainy evening where I was sheltered by grace and gorgeousness while *almost* feeling like I was walking through a garden with tiny little smatterings of gift shop shards placed among the flora. In addition to the sensual appeal and the abundance of plants, garden statues, and plant pots, this store also offers useful gardening books (I picked up an excellent book about pruning), napkins, tea balls, and many other items. Super cute plant shop and convenient if you're heading over to U-Village. I'd prob recommend scheduling a time to visit because right now they're limiting people who can come into the shop and we totally didn't plan our visit since it spontaneously happened so we stood outside and froze forever. The line moves REALLY slow and unfortunately there aren't any heat lamps around this area. Also, the check-in area isn't blocked off entire nor does it have someone permanently managing so there was one person who was completely oblivious to the line of people waiting to get in and slipped into the shop so by the time we made it to the front we had to wait longer for more people to come out because they only had room for 1 person to enter and there were two of us. (This is more just me complaining about the person being oblivious...don't be one of THOSE oblivious self-centered jerks) The entrance when we went was on the east side of the shop. All of the other doorways are blocked off and they don't really have signage so we plugged around the entire exterior of the store until we found the line. All of that being said, their selection here is fantastic. We ended up leaving with three new baby plants (1 - 2" Japanese Fern, 1 - 2" peperomia, 1 - 4" Rubber Plant), with 3 new planters to hold them and they're all absolutely perfect. I love the options just wish there were more pothos & philodendrons to choose from! read more

I love this little garden space in University Village! They offer all kinds of indoor and outdoor plants at not surprisingly higher prices (I imagine rent here is quite a lot!) Every time I've come around they have been very helpful. One time I just needed some stag moss for a plant in the winter and they didn't have any on hand to sell. They had some in the back used for items in the store and gave me a small bag for free - what a pleasant surprise! They have a nice selection of indoor plants inside the shop and I have been able to keep everything purchased from them alive thus far! My favorite plant from there has been the pilea. I will definitely be coming here to find gifts for friends and family in the future. It is such a cool little secret garden of sorts in the middle of the hustle and bustle of U village! read more

This place is so much more than a garden store. More like a boutique, trendy and unique. I like the modern indoor plants and green plant centerpieces. Beautiful seasonal decorations for the whole house, soaps, candles, lotions, delicious local jams, jelly, sauces and syrups. A great place to buy gifts and be inspired, to be creative and make your home a more delightful place inside and out! This is a beautiful store, with many options and overall atmosphere. We have been customers for years and unfortunately, our real issue "stemmed" from a medium-sized plant purchase a few months ago. We discovered through repotting that this plant was a bunch of trimmings, instead of your usual bulb of roots. While the plant was still healthy, it was young and the entire base fell apart after trying to repot, causing a mess and defeated the purpose of repotting in the first place. This is something we found extremely disappointing, especially for $30 plant in a store so beautiful as this one with raving reviews. After this experience, we hope that this is not a usual practice for their plant sales. read more

It's a little green oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle that is U-Village. A dozen cool garden benches, a dozen cool bistro tables for patio, a dozen other stools, a hundred cool pots of all sizes, and...huuuundreds of plants. Not hundreds of different ones; it's not that big. But hundreds of total specimens. All in good shape. The staff are super nice, and patiently answered a bunch of super-basic questions from the aspiring plant-owner in their midst today. It was actually something of a tender moment--baby's first pothos (a pothos is a super-indestructible house plant, if you don't know, and is generally considered a safe bet for a fledgling gardener). The prices are not aimed at the bargain hunter, and the selection is, for all its niceness, not exactly inspiring for the adventurous gardener. I wouldn't stock up for a large project here, but it's a well-conceived little pied-a-terre for gardening knick-knackery in a fairly densely developed area. Fine for hurried purchases. read more

This is a great place to get away from the Mall feeling all around you. It would be a great place to pick up a house warming gift for someone. On the plus side, they have some interesting and unusual plants. However. Big however! The employees seem very uninformed about flowers. They cannot answer even basic questions as: Do they can take intense western exposure? Will they bloom all summer long? The employees could look up the information, but they seldom bother. Maybe because they're really more interested in selling retail products than truly providing good service. No surprise that the pansies I purchased from them did very poorly, despite being in a shady spot and getting frequent watering. One month after purchasing, they look very pathetic. I could do better just purchasing inexpensively at Fred Meyer. Or Swanson's Nurseries. By the way: staff are NOT wearing masks, as stated. read more

Ravenna Gardens has an amazing selection of plants and succulents. I have always passed them through cause I never really had a need for coming in, but don't let that deter you away. Inside is fantastical! Everything is very organized and neat, I had assumed it was going to be an overgrown mess but nope, it is very elegant inside. One of the amazing things about Ravenna Gardens however is their florist. Her succulent arrangements are beautiful and very carefully arranged. Looking at some of the premade arrangements for sale, you can see how well each plant is arranged together, and she also does a lot of sand and rock layering that pull the pieces together extremely well. Her work is unique and amazing; I like to take pictures for inspiration. read more

I come this location a couple of times a year looking for unique and different plants for my garden. This a great place to browse and look at the many different choices they have to offer. You can also get ideas on what works in your garden and planters by following their planting arrangements. I bought a couple of lemon cypresses that are doing well in my garden. The fluorescent lime green color is a nice accent to the various darker colors that it surrounds. They also have a great selection of indoor plants for you to choose from. I mainly just stay with the outdoor plants and I am always will be on the lookout for that unique plant that will complement my garden. read more

Covet. That's what I mostly do here. This place has covet-worthy items that aren't alive and affordable and quality things that are. It's as 'secret garden' as it gets in Seattle, if you want to outfit your outdoors with something that will turn it into a backdrop for a dark '1920's style garden shoot, this is the place. Statues (some under $50 so not too bad), furnishings, exotic and hardier indoor and outdoor plants, topiaries and more things I can't even name. One of the nicest stores in University Village. First off, the store is beautiful. It had the best location next to the fountains and they let their wares spill out of their doors to lure you in. I do agree with Maria that the variety is a little slim though. But what they do carry tend to be unique and lovely. I have to admit I adore their miniature topiaries. I'm trying to find a space for one right now. They also have very nice gardening supplies and gifts that are perfect for any level of garden lover. I do love some of their beautiful wicker furniture here too. I made a major purchase here of a lovely palm tree and ceramic pot. I wanted something huge to enjoy the high ceilings in my bedroom, but needed it to be easy to care for. They had the perfect palm trees there that were very well established and they even displayed them in perfect pots. I found one I adored and adopted it! The staff here were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Not to mention, hard working. They know their wares and can help you find the perfect plant. And this is while trying to say hello to everyone, work the register and care for the merchandise. Impressed. read more

4 stars for being so boutique cute, but really should be 3 for plant selection. This really is a plant boutique with far more in the way of accessories than actual plants. The woman working there was super friendly and knowledgeable. She told me all about the "mother fern" I found so intriguing and they had one in a 4 inch pot for $6. There was also a 4 inch potted jade tree, practically bursting out of the pot, for $5 I think I can't live without. Their selection might be sparse, but the quality of the plants is top notch - healthy and vibrant greenery - and their presentations so sold me that I really came to think I can keep these plants alive, all evidence to the contrary. read more

I love this place! They always have some cute and unique items, including their awesome metal trellises with little birds and flowers, great selection of succulents and cacti, original items to make terrariums, beautiful handmade outdoor furniture, etc. For a nursery that small, they really do have a little of everything. If you sign up for their newsletter, they let you know when their items go on sale, and keep an eye out for their awesome container sale ;) The people that work at this store are not only friendly but knowledgeable about the plants they sell (they saved my gardenia's life by telling me what was wrong with it and what fertilizer I should use). This is what every garden store should aspire to become. Though the staff is generally on the retail side more than gardeners, the store is kept in great care. They cater to high end clientele who can spend $1100 on a wood bench or several hundred on hand crafted statuaries and wrought iron works for their home garden area. You won't find a great knowledge toward the care of your indoor lemon tree, but the staff could come into your home and transform anyplace into a Garden of Eden. You'll fall in love with almost everything from the pottery to the lush green plants available. They have a nice mini nursery of herbs and flora that are not outdone by seasonal displays for outdoor types. Revanna Gardens is more for those who actually hire someone to come care for their plants, but I simply love this store. My only other caveat is the narrowness of the store aisles. If you have a stroller, wheel chair or other mobility devices, don't expect to see much of the interior. read more

While they are more expensive than Sky Nursery, they still have great quality plants - from vegetables, to annuals, to indoor plants. They also have the best outdoor tablecloths, dinnerware, knick knacks, and planters. Don't get me started on their soaps and candles - if I had a ton of money to blow I would spend a bunch of it here.
