I needed to buy bath bombs for a birthday present and then Venue showed up in my Internet search for places that have bath bombs. So that's what brought me in. But I ended up staying and browsing for quite some time, as Venue's offerings go far beyond bath bombs. They have really lovely art, jewelry, stickers, and cards. Lots of wearable art. Like I absolutely adore Venue. They do a marvelous job promoting artist during the Ballard Art Walk. The collection of different art and artists is great. Lots of variety and have the artist contact info if you want to get of hold of the artist. So like there kinda is an upstairs. If you go up the stairs there is art along the stairwell but like I'm not sure what the other space up there is about. The downstairs has cool small rooms that are like mini art galleries. As for the people who work here I would have to say all the ladies are totally nice. I wish Venue would open later but like hey I get it if the demand isn't there don't do it. On Art Walk nights Venue is open later. It like it can get crowded. read more

Venue does it all, is part-studio, boutique and on our recent visit, offered wine and snacks for artwalk. The choices for gifts are outstanding, with something for every taste and budget. I was searching for a gift for my sis' birthday, and found a couple items that were handmade, special and made by local artists. I'd like to keep the art of gift giving alive by never giving gift cards or commercial goods. I adore opening presents from local artists and I imagine you might too. Awesome art! The variety of items in here is spectacular. From the plates, phots, nick nacs and much more. How can you not love supporting local art. I can be clumsy and I'm always worried I'll buy something nice from here and break it. Getting a unique and artsy gift for a friend this is the place. We wondering into this place by complete accident while exploring Ballard and I am totally in love with it! It's a combo store/gallery/work space for local artists, so it's like a bunch of tiny little stores INSIDE one big store, which I think is pretty damn awesome. The set up was roomy and comfortable and the range of art (including jewelry, clothing & even chocolates) was great - you could probably find something for almost anyone in here. Pricing depends on the artist, of course, but I saw more than a few things that I would fork out some cash for. I highly recommend visiting! read more

This is a pretty fun place to browse for cards--check out the hilarious cards from Christopher Boffoli (bigappetites.net), featuring tiny people doing mundane or awesome stuff around food--and to find cool artsy gifts and jewelry. The show-stopper here is unquestionably the collage work of Seattle artist Kate Endle, which is so richly infused with creativity and color and unabashed happiness. They carry many of her pieces and she continues to produce beautiful collages featuring birds--her owls in particular are terrific. Check her out at kateendle.com. read more

Very friendly and helpful staff, an array of local arts and crafts that are not cheap but still affordable, and Cocoa Chai truffles! Lots of handmade journals and jewelry. Pleasant atmosphere. All I got on my first visit were the truffles, at $2 apiece actually pretty cheap for a handmade truffle, but beautifully made and available in delicious and unique flavors (like Thai iced tea). read more

Venue offers work studios for local artists and a display area to sell their work. I found 3 gifts here and also managed to pick up something for myself. They have everything from fancy chocolates to glass ornaments. I was able to pick up a couple of gnome magnets, one of Mr. gnome in front of the SAM and another of him in front of the Seattle public library. Two personalized photo stretch canvas, and a letter-pressed hand painted calendar. This is a great place to find diverse things in one venue :) read more

Maybe it is because they are so new, but Venue needs some more stuff! The space is meant to be a boutique with work studios (for people to make things for the boutique to sell?), but so far only half the work studios are taken, and unless you want a piece of jewelery or a glass piece you are out of luck. I think once they get some more artists/designers involved they will take off. It is a really cool idea- Check it out in a few months. read more

Support your local, indie artists, right? I'm a big fan of supporting the local artists - I will almost always take something locally made over something not-locally-made. (I draw a line at cars - American made cars make me wary.) This is a combination of two stories of work studios (small nooks enclosed with shoji screen doors) and boutique for those who use said artist studios. On a day that I went, a painter sat inside his studio, door open, inviting people to wander in. I was wary and kind of danced along the outside edges, admiring his work from afar, and he kindly invited me in, chatting with me about his technique and what inspires him. He was quite the gentleman and if I had the means (and the wallspace), I probably would've bought something. I'll be back when I own a house, I promise. The silver candy jewelry was fantastic (who doesn't want a silver gummi bear around their neck?!), the chocolates were tempting, and the onesies were cute. I was pleased to see the work of a favorite mainstay at Fireworks - those boxes/mirror frames/picture frames/anything wood that are painted with beautiful white script statements on them - actually had a studio there as well. read more

Staff person, who was the store's local artist of the month, was so helpful in packaging the works I bought (different artist) so that it will be safe on my long flight back to Asia. read more

This place is definitely a gem! A co-op for indie artists that displays an array of art from jewelry to frames to cards to bags to paintings to photography to prints. I shopped Venue right before Christmas with a friend of mine and she found the most perfect last minute gifts that she was in need of. It was wonderful speaking with the artists, having them tell us about their work and pointing out the work of the other artists as well. I have a friend that will love this place and can't wait to take her when she visits Seattle! read more

What a random find, that I love! So once again, I find myself in Seattle, killing some time before meeting some peeps for dinner. Lo and behold, I find this gem, and happen to know the artist who was working there! This place has it all: jewelry, paintings, photos, children's items... in other words: it's a GREAT place to buy a gift that is one of a kind. The featured artist this month is an artist who does paintings of cupcakes, and seriously, the cutest things ever. I wanted to buy gifts for everyone, but my broke ass couldn't do it. This place is actually run by a good friend of my boyfriend and I had actually found it before I met him. It is basically an artist's co-op with studios and awesome unique finds inside. The owner makes awesome messenger bags with cute pics on the front flap (I got one for my birthday with the most adorable moped) and the most practical pockets and extras. There is an artist that makes boutique chocolates, another that creates book cards (can't think of a better way to describe it so you had best stop in!), and yet another with amazing baby onesies. It also has a large selection of fun and different jewelry and coming from a jewelry hound I can respectfully throw in my two cents. I definitely want a silverized? Rubber chicken or Pez around my neck. The people in here are more than helpful and if you need to find a present for the hard to shop for they can pick something out that is sure to please. I personally love shopping at places like Venue and I had my favorites in Boulder (Boulder Artist Co-op, Rembrandt Yard, and Angie Starr). They also open up for the art walk in Ballard and the next time I'm in Seattle I will be sure to stop by for some snacks while perusing the wonderful treasures. Keep up the great work! read more

Been to the Venue twice to check out the artwork and jewelry of my friend (Amy Bixby). I love my friends art but I also fell in love with the Venue. Friendly staff, big space, lots to see and got half my Christmas shopping done in one visit and plan to swing by again. What I love best is the great unique artwork from local artists, more neighborhoods could use a place like the Venue. read more

I think Venue has hit its stride since the last reviews came in. I went during the Seafood Fest and just fondled things, but ended up having to go back after I awoke the next morning realizing that I HAD TO HAVE a "magazine bag" from Kim Rosin. I also bought a pricey little magnet with a gnome standing in front of the Space Needle (*whine*....but he matches our yard gnome...I needed it). I did see chocolates there and awesome mosiac-ed Magic 8 balls and bowling pins. I found another bag I really wanted but just couldn't justify AND a necklace that I hinted to hubby that I wanted (though I waited a day and now I'm pretty sure he's forgotten where we even were). Anyway, worth another look for those who have been before and a nice stop for newbies. read more

I always feel inspired to be more creative and artistic whenever I visit this store. It is both artists' studio as well as a boutique with a collection of handmade jewelry, soap, mosaics, handbags, printed t-shirts, cards...you name it! The people who work there are always attentive, genuine and helpful, often looking up more details about the local artists featured in their store. Venue is the perfect place to find a unique gift. Local art sold by the artists that make it! The artists really do take turns staffing the store, so depending on when you are there, you can sometimes talk to the artist that made the piece you are buying. The artists also have their own work spaces, which you can wander through. In addition to great art, they carry the best cards, too! As a huge stationery addict, I adore this store. They have an amazing collection of paper goods, mugs, even jewelry! I actually found out about this spot after I signed up for a calligraphy class that was hosted here (with Caitlin Dundon of One Heart Studio, also recommended!), and just had to come back when I could buy all the things. Fun perk: the owner's golden retriever is often a mainstay and greets customers at the door! read more

Local artists and designers would have a great space to showcase their talents here, the space really is cool. one of the top places in Seattle for local, independent artists who produce, cards, candles, soap, art, baby onesies, etc. the onesie i bought was actually much cheaper than others that i saw, and it was great quality with original artwork. the owner here is very friendly and always makes me feel welcome, whether i buy anything or not. they have a great jewelry selection as well and sometimes offer free water and twinkies on the weekend to their guests. also, they offer many different art classes that are very reasonably priced, so this place cares about the community. if you are looking for quality, original art or gifts at a great price, go here and check things out--you might be very surprised how many different cool items this place has to sell. i always check it out when i am at the Ballard Farmer's market as they are open 6 days a week. read more
