I knew what I wanted and was happy to get to see the item in person before purchasing. When I bought it, she brought it out in a nice box, folded with an info sheet on the creator. I bought a salish wool blanket online years ago that I cherish. On a road trip I stopped in to see the store in person, tall ceilings and it smelled amazing in there! The staff were really nice, we were wearing the same brand mukluks. I was on a mission (and a budget!) and knew exactly what I wanted, left with two new blankets for gifting that came in beautiful boxes with handles. Last minute picked some socks out for my husband, they feel like really good quality while also being beautiful! Next time I'll buy a scarf for myself, one of the beautiful silky ones. I haven't been to this store but was looking for a wool blanket online to keep me warm while social distancing in outdoor gatherings in Boston during the winter. I was blown away by the Confluence design by David Boxley. Being an environmentalist his message was inline with my beliefs. Shipment was slower than normal (with Amazon everyone is used to ridiculously quick shipments) but with COVID spiking up online sales and delaying shipments, Eight Generation can't be blamed. I wish they had just thrown the shipping label on the blanket box instead of having a box inside a box, but it does protect against bumps; and their inside box (with a dope design) was in perfect condition. The blanket's quality is top notch. Up close the colors were not as brilliant as they were online (some red fibers in the blue), but it's beautiful! Super soft and not itchy like some of the Pendleton blankets I've felt. I mean it, this wool blanket is not even itchy on my face (and I'm sensitive to wool)! The blanket is edged with a soft microfiber and is made of Aotearoa wool (Maori word for NZ...nice touch). Side note, I love that supporting a shop that benefits inspired Native artists doesn't mean you compromise on quality. I plan I'm enjoying this blanket for years to come and visiting this store next time I'm in Seattle! read more

Nice blankets, suspect practices and advertising. My partner purchased two "Gold Label" blankets which were clearly advertised as "made in our Seattle studio." The blankets arrived and were nice enough, but upon closer inspection I found the pellon label and it was marked "Made in China." When I later pointed this out on social media, including how the product pages were misleading, I got no response. I happened across that posting again and thought to check their webpage. Sure enough, they edited the product descriptions and a *huge* number of their products were now unlisted from the Gold Label category. My initial feedback was mysteriously missing but the company answered subsequent commenters asking about manufacture by telling them to carefully read the product descriptions. Which we had done as well, only to find they weren't accurate back then. Mighty close to the old bait and switch...and it makes me wonder how many others were mislead before I pointed it out and they edited their product pages accordingly. This business goes to great lengths to push "buy small, support Native" but engages in the same lousy tactics as your everyday businesses. Woke capitalism is still just plain old capitalism, gang. read more

We found 8th generation tucked inside Pike Place Market and were intrigued by the Art work and hand woven blankets, this is a little gem with a beautiful backstory. The founder is part native American and part Cantonese and the store manager shared with its the inspiration and their vision of enabling the artists prosper on their own work and culture. I came away with the cutest cat on an orca shirt, inspired by the founders cat who he had rescued and nurtured. Support local and this is a great place to do it. read more

It was love at first sight when I saw the beautiful design of "The Return" wool blanket on the website. I kept looking at it, wanting to purchase it but holding back feeling it would be a guilty pleasure to splurge on it (what was I thinking?!!). Then I had the incredible pleasure of meeting Sonja Holy Eagle, the gifted artist of this blanket design, in her gallery in Rapid City. Sonja's artwork spoke to me. After purchasing some of Sonja's art I knew I had to *splurge* on The Return blanket. Sadly, when I went to purchase the blanket it was out of stock. Bought the Dancing Dragonflies phone case. Disappointed. Feels cheap. Looks cheap. The black casing is made of non-descript thin light weight plastic. Fit is good on phone. The wood portion with design is not good at all. It looks as if someone stuck stickers on wood and covered it with cheap stick-on lamination. There is a relief effect around the stickers. You can see bubbles under the lamination around the dragonflies. I will admit, the dragonfly stickers are pretty. Concept is great, but the execution is horrible. Could use better material. Don't waste your hard earned dough. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. I have known Louie for years. We grew up within the same Tribe, Nooksack Indian Tribe. I have followed Louie's career and impact within Indian Country over the years. Eighth Generation located at Pike's Place Market is beautifully designed. The store has an open concept feel that exudes creativity with each unique piece displayed. I purchased a beautiful pair of earrings and have my eye on a blanket with Louie's signature hummingbird design. While the store has many beautiful pieces, the best part about Eighth Generation is the opportunity it provides to young artists. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to shop at this location. A friend and I attended an "Ice Cream Social" event here yesterday and were both amazed by all of the beautiful handmade items! We brought the kids out for the ice cream and were grateful to enjoy the shopping and art. The ice cream was made by Central District Ice Cream, who was there handing out generous samples -"Sleepy Dragon" being my favorite as I love lavender (this is the only ice cream maker that has done the flavor justice). The space is filled with fabulous artwork, fine crafts, and everything is made by indigenous artists and craftsmen. The first thing I noticed was the beautifully made blankets, although I don't know that I could ever take one off of the wall to sleep under because they really are true works of art. The artist who made the blankets was in and answering questions about the symbolism in his work -it was a great impromptu artist talk. The atmosphere in this space is fantastic and you forget you're at a store because it feels like an art gallery. The work in this space is amazing and there's something for everyone. This is a must stop shop if you are planning to spend any time in or near Pike Place Market. read more
